- Charlie (10/5): - The family are incredibly welcoming and hospitable. The breakfast was great and prompt. We enjoyed the close proximity to the bus stop and food spots which made it very convenient. The space was very clean and the staff were super helpful with all requests.
- Jiayu (10/5): Everything was perfect! I had a very good stay here! - The room was big and cozy, the bed was comfortable, the hot spring was good, the breakfast was super delicious and hearty, the location was good, and the staffs were also so helpful and friendly!
- Janelle (7/5): - Had a great stay, staff were amazing and assisted me with anything that I had needed. Breakfast every morning was lovely. I thought location was good, few minutes walk from Happo bus terminal which is essential to getting to the slopes and if your needing to get to Nagano for train transfers, Lawson and food options close by too. Overall great experience and would stay again :) There wasn’t anything I didn’t like.
- vicente (10/5): Like a dream - Amazing little traditional hotel, it’s make me feels like I was inside an anime. The food was amazing as well. Overall one of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever lived. Please don’t miss out the chance to skip this place over the more luxurious options in town, this place is an experience by himself!
- William (10/5): - The staff were so welcoming and friendly. The breakfast was exceptional and they tried their best to accommodate one of my party, who was vegetarian. The on-site onsens were fantastic places to relax and recover after a day on the slopes. I'd love to stay again and recommend this very highly for anyone staying in Hakuba. Nothing!
- Ichiro (8/5): ボリュームのある豪華な料理‼️ - 家族的な雰囲気! 特にありません。
- Sabine (10/5): A high-end ryokan with the homey atmosphere of a traditional inn and the polish of a hotel - Situated in the heart of Happo-One and a 10-minute walk to the Nakayama slopes, Maruni Ryokan Hakuba is a comfortable and convenient location for a stay to enjoy Happo-One. For those who want to go a bit further, its location near the Bus Terminal and various bus stops makes it easy to reach the other resorts in the Hakuba Valley.
The family who run Ryokan Maruni and very welcoming, friendly and helpful. My Japanese-style room was quite large and had lovely views of the mountains. It was comfortable and clean, providing ample storage space for luggage. The dry room in the basement was also more than adequate, ensuring dry boots and gloves in the morning.
Ryokan Manuri does a lovely breakfast, catering to both Asian and Western tastes and also serves a lovely Japanese-style dinner (pre-booking required at least a day ahead). Close to restaurants it also provides a shared fridge and microwave for days you just want to keep things simple.
For overall convenience, comfort and quality service, this one is hard to beat. nothing
- Madeline (10/5): A memorable part of our stay in hakuba - The homey vibe and friendly hosts
- tyler (10/5): - The staff was especially friendly and helpful. They made this place feel like home, well being so far away from home. This was an amazing authentic experience that I would recommend to any couple.
- Peter (10/5): Fantastic Japanese hospitality - Lovely family run operation who take great pride in their hospitality - they provide a beautiful Japanese breakfast every day and the rooms and bathrooms are smart and well kept. Great location If you don’t appreciate a Japanese experience, then this won’t be the best option for you.
- Kurtis (10/5): 10/10 for this beautiful place - Family run, they care so much about there guests was an amazing stay in hakuba Bathroom small, shower head could be repositioned
- Shona (10/5): Clean, comfy & AMAZING breakfast - Attention to detail for various aspects of the accommodation surpassed our expectations greatly.
Breakfast spread had an AMAZING variety daily.
Toilets were extremely clean. Drying room was provided for snow/wet equipment. Onsen was well maintained, beds were comfortable and warm enough. Wafer biscuits provided on first day in the room were tasty.
The demographic of guests from all over also made it an interesting stay.
Staff were friendly and extremely helpful. Closeby to lots of restaurants and the bus terminal.
Overall such a pleasant experience!!

- Demetra (10/5): Exceptional! Very relaxing! I want to go back!!! - I was nervous to book because it was our first time at a Ryokan and Japanese style rooms. I am so glad I did!!! I have stayed in various places - from hostels to luxury hotels around the world - but this family run Ryokan won my heart!! It is charming warm, well run. Hospitality amazing. The room was very spacious, very clean and comfortable. The futons beds so comfortable and cozy. I loved that the room was dark at night - I was able to sleep through the night. Also the Ryokan is very quiet! Be aware the front door close at 23:00.
Breakfast was amazing. Plenty from which to chose - a mix of Western and Japanese. Please try everything it was sooo delicious. And the presentation so artistic. I also recommend the dinners. We paid for dinner one night. Beautiful and yummy - but you need to book dinner the day before. Could not enjoy it the other nights because we had tours so we didn't make it back in time.
They also have an onsen on site. Clean and well kept. Great after a day skiing or wandering!
Excellent location is just 4 minutes from Happo Bus terminal. Convenient when arriving from Nagano, for buses to snow resorts or other tours (Snow Monkeys!!).
We were able to send our skis and bags before arrival and they are sending then onto the airport for us after check out!
The family is very warm, hospitable, accommodating and friendly. Our stay really was exceptional. Highly recommended! Looking forward to returning. Nothing.

- Kelly (10/5): - The owners were outstanding. They spoke some english. This was a peaceful place to stay amongst the chaos of Hakuba. The breakfast was outstanding!! We paid for dinner one night - I highly recommend it! Our room for 2 adults and 2 young adult children was perfect. I would love to stay here again!
- Donald (10/5): Great place to stay if skiing Happo-One or any of the Hakuba ski areas. - Breakfast was served on time and had great variety!
- Charmaine Elizabeth Wan Qi (10/5): -
- Timothy (10/5): Nice and comfy - Very good breakfast
- Jay (10/5): Best of my Japan trip - Host is super nice and food are delicious Nothing
- Nicole (10/5): If I visit Hakuba again, I’m definitely coming back to Maruni Ryokan. - Was initially a bit suspicious of the very high rating, but it is definitely well deserved. The people running the ryokan are so friendly and attentive, and such a joy to interact with. Breakfast was a delicious feast every morning with so many different dishes. My room was very nice and clean, and the onsen was also very well kept. Great location as well! It was very close to the Happo One bus terminal so it’s very convenient catching buses to the ski resorts or to Nagano when leaving.
- Kevin Yuen Gee (10/5): - Amazing hotel onsen, close to bus terminal, excellent breakfast
- Jasmine (10/5): Warm and inviting - We loved how friendly and hospitable the staff were. We arrived early in the ski season and so there weren’t any shuttle buses to the ski resorts operating. The staff kindly offered to drive and pick us up, which we were so grateful for. The breakfast each morning was beautiful. The onsen was so relaxing after a big day of skiing and the atmosphere of the ryokan was truly warm and inviting. Nothing, loved it all.
- Truman (10/5): Great stay, nice staff. - Staff were very understanding and accommodating. We went during a period where everything was still closed, and they allowed us to check out early with a refund. None
- Lee (10/5): Strongly recommended- to enjoy warm, lovely Japanese Hospitality , Japanese Culture and food. - A very quaint and charming Ryokan ran by the Maruni family.
It was like stepping back in time , we really love the antiquity and old nostalgic charm of this ryokan .
What stood out was that it was so well maintained and very very clean👍
We came during low season in Hakuba , but no regrets, as there were still nice sight seeing to do , as long as you drive. Shino was very helpful in giving us tips and checking in on us .
The daily breakfast was so well prepared with fresh ingredients , and a different daily menu, down to the chopsticks holder.
Please do try their dinner …you will not regret it .
We left , feeling so well rested, and enjoyed a slower pace and relaxing time here.

- Siddiqui (10/5): Perfect traditional Japanese Ryokan experience - The owners/staff were soooo nice! The breakfast was out of this world. So so delicious. The attention to detail was beyond what we expected. Cannot wait to go back! Thank you so much!! You guys are amazing!!
- Samuel (10/5): -
- Raghu (10/5): Lovely, cozy little place with great breakfast. - Fantastic little Ryokan in Hakuba. A great location for skiing, very walkable even in gear to the bus stop for the shuttle, or even to the Happo Gondola.
The rooms is lovely. At first I was a bit apprehensive because I'd never slept in a tatami room kinda thing, but its pretty comfortable. Only thing I missed was being able to throw myself onto the bed :-) .
The breakfast is amazing, I'd never had fish and rice for breakfast before, but it just works. A great Japanese experience in that regard.
Staff are lovely, very kind and polite. Not much. Though since my stay coincided with some music festival, they informed me they will close the doors at 2300. As in, you have to be back before that.
Something to keep in mind and maybe confirm with them for your dates if you plan to be out late.
- Ichiro (10/5): 良かったです。 - 朝食、夕食とも味も量も申し分なし❗️ 特に無し!

Onsen inside the property, most of the time empty and have it all to yourself, super relaxing and convenient after ski !
