Guest Reviews
- Hashir (10/5): Overall experience was outstanding - Property was very clean ,everything was available and owner of property was very kind and humble
- Felicity (8/5): - Beds and duvets were unbelievably comfy
- HON LAM (8/5): -
- Howlett (10/5): - Reception lollies
- Ninelle (6/5): - own room was good for the price. Would be good to have a small fridge or something in the room though location is a little far from the centre, but there are nearby buses. Automatic floor heating tht doesn't turn off so and gets way too hot, so had to sleep with the window open in munis temps
- Richards (4/5): Decent stay for the price, minus the stink bugs. - The place was close enough to the shuttle bus pick up/ drop off and not far from the convenience store. it was only a 15 minute walk away from echo land and was in a quiet area. The hosts were nice enough to drop us to the train station when we were leaving Hakuba. Our room had many stink bugs which were hard to get rid of, and walking to/from the shuttle bus pick up was hard with snowboard equipment when we had an 8:30am lesson. The other guests were very loud in the morning/at night and there was only floor heating in the room.
- Owain (10/5): Really friendly hosts in a great location, would reccomend and stay again! - Easy to get to and close to the bus stop for the slopes. Really friendly hosts and kindly gave us a lift to the station when we left. Nothing!
- John (10/5): -
- Jessica (10/5): - Absolutely wonderful stay - warm and cosy, nice communal area, two private onsens and a drying room. The owner also gave us a lift to the station which we appreciated. 5 mins walk from 7-11 and there's buses to ski resorts at the end of the road. The buses take you to three of the mountains but for the rest of Hakuba you need to walk 15 mins into Echoland to catch buses.
- Aaron (10/5): -
- Vonička (10/5): - Great prize-value Pension. Super nice hosts. Great location -> 7-eleven, bus station near by. Hot bath at the evening was a great way to relax after snowboarding sessions. There was a place to servis your gear. All cool.
- Verrier (10/5): Conveniently located, warmly welcomed, and well taken care of. - There was a large open area to store ski coats and equipment. Although shared, large open shower area with a very nice hot tub. The common area was nicely decorated and always supplied. They had a microwave and refrigerator available for anyone to use. For the price rooms were very spacious and well kept. Very conveniently located, approximately a two minute walk from the nearest rental store and mountain shuttle bus. Additionally, it was about a five minute walk from the nearest convenience store. There were many restaurants and pubs located nearby. The staff was composed of an old man and lady, both of which were extremely attentive. Any issues I had were resolved promptly. I couldn’t have asked for better hosts. They even drove me back to the bus out of Hakuba. The toilet room upstairs was a little small. The air conditioning in my room didn’t work but when I asked the hosts for assistance they provided me with an air purifier.

- Emily (9/5): - Well equipped for skiers and snowboarders. Great location to 7-eleven and restaurants. Bus to half the hills is a 2 min walk away and bus to Tsugaiki and Cortina a 10 min walk. 2 private onsens are amazing after a long day on the slopes. Great little dining room with coffee/tea/place setting and a sitting area with games, piano and books. The inn is rustic but has an inviting and lovely character. The two owners were very helpful and the guests were also all super friendly. You get a taste of japan at this inn which I personally appreciated.
- gosia ゴシャ (10/5): Very nice place - everything :) friendly owners, cleanness, location, other tenants ;) there's a floor heating which you don't have any control over. At times there was way too hot in my room and the only way to reduce it was to ask the owners. But then they completely switched it off and it became too cold instead... I wish they provided some mechanism to regulate the temperature... It's a small inconvenience though
- Bonan (10/5): - Great location. Friendly helpful host.
- Joanna (8/5): - The owners are extremely nice and helpful. Very quiet place, close to the shuttle. There is a spacious common room with a fridge and microwave, where you can make breakfast before hitting the slopes. The rooms are basic but decent size, beds were comfortable.
- Chehan (10/5): Great hospitality - Brilliant place and good location. Hosts are very lovely and even drove us during heavy snow to the train station. Highly recommend.
- Peyer (9/5): -
- NOBORU (8/5): - 広く滞在しやすい部屋でした。 エアコンが欲しいです。
- Leanne (10/5): Highly recommend - The private onsen was perfect after a day on the snow. The convenience store was close and perfect for picking up breakfast supplies. There was a fridge and microwave available to use. The shuttle bus was close by. We were happy to be picked up and dropped off at the train station with our luggage. Drying room was excellent. Underfloor heating in room was excellent. Pillows were quite small and mattress springs could be felt.
- Rik (8/5): Very good -
- Eddie (10/5): Great location and beautiful little accommodation. - The staff were really friendly and helpful.
The hot onsen in the bathroom was just amazing after a big day on the slopes! Everything was amazing
- Steven (9/5): Great budget pension supports skiers / boarders very well. - Location for free bus to ski areas is excellent. Nice bath, and ski equipment room is very convenient.
Coffee always available, as well as fridge and microwave use in common area. A bit far from town center.
- Brendon (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (5/5): Quiet good value - No breakfast provided It’s not ok to be around between the hours of 0930-1430
- Taylor (8/5): Very good - Nice communal area, the hot baths, close to 7Eleven and there is a free shuttle bus stop nearby (the shuttles are often late however), drying room.
- Clare (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kathryn (9/5): A really nice place to stay without spending a fortune. - This guest house was great value for money. It was about a 20-25 minute walk to the main shops of Hakuba, however, unless you want to go out for the night, there was no need to go there. There is a 7-eleven about a 2 minute walk away; and was close to the shuttle buses for the
ski fields. There were also some restaurants close by if you did want to eat out. The rooms had underfloor heating and beds were comfortable. Shared bathroom (x2) and three separate toilets, which was fine; bonus being an onsen tub with tourmaline minerals to soak away the cold. Our hosts were kind and helpful. Pick up and drop off at the bus station if you arrange ahead of your arrival/departure. Shared dining room with fridge and microwave. Games in sitting room.
- Hui (8/5): Very good -
- Danielle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dylan (9/5): Superb -
- Tobias (10/5): Super great place, definitely recommended. - Hospitality was very good, nice rooms, everything was great. Shuttle bus is also very close, which was great. The only thing I could say is that there’s basically no sound isolation in the rooms, so you can kinda hear everything everyone is doing.
- Bridget (10/5): Exceptional - Very lovely hosts, always willing to help out
- Matthew (9/5): Brilliant value little home stay, perfect for a snow trip. - Lovely little home stay, rooms are nothing fancy but they’re all you need for a snowboarding trip.
Well sized dry room directly out the front.
3 toilets that are shared, with 2 shared showers / bath combos.
Never had an issue with getting a shower, or toilet when I needed it.
5 minute walk from 7-11, 2 minutes from Goryu / Hakuba47 shuttle.
Great value for money, with friendly owners, highly recommend for a snowboarding trip trip to Hakuba. Little bit of a walk into echoland.
- Rafał (9/5): I haven't seen such a beautiful winter for 20 years or so. - I have had problems with falling asleep for a long time, but in a comfy bed of Pension Roku, I slept within 10 minutes. Perhaps there's also a factor of being tired due to skiing, but the point stands.
Except for this, 7-Eleven is close by, and the ski bus stop is just next door. Personel is crazy helpful. Even other guests were great people.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Darren (7/5): Good -
- Blue (9/5): Superb -
- Bernd (8/5): Very good -
- Lachlan (10/5): Warm, homely and welcoming! - Beautiful hosts with a very warm and welcoming guest house! Located a short walk from Echoland, a convenience store and right near a bus to the slopes! The owners made me feel at home and were always very polite and welcoming, I will be back for sure! Nothing, it was perfect for me.
- Oda (8/5): Very good - Very warm
- Jesus (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent Stay at Pensión Roku!
Pensión Roku is a fantastic hotel with great access to the ski slopes. The rooms are cozy, and the location is perfect. What made our stay unforgettable was the staff’s kindness—when no taxis were available, they personally drove us to the station. Exceptional service! Highly recommended!
- Cooper (9/5): Superb -
- Sheng (5/5): Passable -
- Ben (8/5): Very good - The property was in a good location very close to a bus stop and convenience store. The staff were helpful and friendly.
- William (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly staff, good location comfortable rooms
- Wei (9/5): Superb -
- Alejandro (8/5): Very good - - Hosts are really nice people. They are communicative and they will make you feel like home.
- Location is quite good if your interest is doing ski/snowboard. Bus stop is 3min walking distance. Very close to Happo and relatively close to Hakuba47. Rental car is also close and cheap. - Location is quite residential, kinda far from EchoLand, busiest area.
- There are 2 or 3 restaurants at walking distance, but you will need to make reservation in advance during January
- There is only 1 convenience store close-by. I recommend to rent car to move around
- Alicia (7/5): Good - Friendly hosts, great location. Shared bathrooms were a different experience.
- Ewan (10/5): Exceptional - Great place to stay for those on a budget, right near the bus two either ends of the valley for skiing/boarding and usually the bus isn't full like it is once you pass happo-one.
Couple who run the pension are helpful and kind, servicing your room to empty your bin and fill the hot water for tea each day. They also helped me get a taxi when leaving, and let me keep my ski bag in the dry room once id checked out so I could ski that afternoon.
The tourmaline bath is a must try and helps you feel so relaxed at the start or end of each day. Would recommend!! The mattress in my room was a little springy but I still slept pretty well
- Stuyck (9/5): Close to shuttle - Very good location close to shuttle. Good value and comfortable beds Strict on the bathroom useage and lounge useage. You basically cannot relax here during the morning and early afternoon even if they are not cleaning anymore…
- Oleg (5/5): Passable -
- Ash (10/5): Exceptional - Couple who ran it were really nice, it’s close to echoland for food and drinks in the evening.
Other people staying there were fun.
- Evan (9/5): Superb -
- Adders (6/5): Pleasant - The couple who owned the place were very lovely and kind. This place is more of a hostel than a hotel. Before coming here I had expectations of it being more like a hotel (if I misread before that’s my bad!). I also had never heard of a ‘pension’ place so I didn’t realize it would be similar to a home stay. I wasn’t too bothered however some things were really inconvenient. The shower room had set times of when we could use it including a cut off time at 10pm which was quite annoying on nights when we went nightskiing. We would have to rush back and have three minute showers to be respectful of the time. I wish I knew this before I booked. Same with the shared downstairs area. It has a Japanese style kettle and I wanted to access it but I was worried because of curfew. Again I didn’t want to be disrespectful but I wish I knew before booking because perhaps I wouldn’t have chosen this place. All that being said the couple were very very lovely.
- Amparo (9/5): Superb -
- Sam (9/5): Great value for money - Short walk to echoland and restaurants, as well as a 7/11 very close. Shuttle bus stop just outside
- William (8/5): Quiet Pension, great value Hakuba. - Friendly hosts, very obliging, lovely people although communication was a little difficult as little English spoken. However, this was never really an issue and good international sign language did the trick.
A 7/11 Convenience store about 6 min walk was handy if you wanted supplies, or dinner if not eating out. They have hot water, microwave and a shared fridge, so you can sort yourself out cheaply if you want to.They don't do dinner but do offer a good breakfast which was 1200 JPY, pre order the night before.
Convenient location, short walk to end of street for bus stop, which connects you to all the snow resorts and bus/jr stations etc.
I really enjoyed the in house Japanese bathroom with tub, magic relax after a big day on the snow
Great value for money and I can certainly recommend it. Cheers Bill The bed was typically hard, as I've generally found in Japan.
- Mb (8/5): Very good - Peaceful, comfortable spacious room.
Helpful hosts Closer to facilities
- Cobham (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Ethan (9/5): Superb - Great location close to multiple shuttle bus stops. The rooms were mostly quiet, everything as expected. Owners were friendly and even explained the shuttle bus times. Wifi could get a little weak in my room, which was on the further edge of the house.
- Zhi (10/5): Exceptional - good location, it' convenient to shuttle bus stop and 7-11. kind staff warm room, everything is perfect.
- Caleb (6/5): Pleasant - It was a good location I wasn't allowed to shower after 10pm
- James (9/5): Superb -
- Jon (9/5): Superb -
- Anantaweep (7/5): Good -
- Stephane (9/5): Enjoyable - Very friendly and helpful hosts. Baths, coffee Room Too hot during the night!
- Jon (9/5): Great hosts. Warm ski room- cosy boots in the morning. - Clean and friendly But far from the action
- Aaron (10/5): Exceptional -
- Youzhen (10/5): Ideal location. feel at home after coming back from the whole day of ski - Perfect location—-to local bus stop and shuttle bus stop
Really clean and well managed—feel so at home to come back to this cabinet after all day skiing
The host are so nice and warm and very hospitable, can sense their attention to detail to make the guests’ stay easy and delightful. Nonetheless we really appreciate their hospitality and kindness. Feel so blessed to choose here. Will choose here again next time! Non . Everything is perfect.
- Edward (9/5): Lovely cosy stay, as if you were right at home! - Pension Roku is run by a lovely, old Japanese couple, who mainly spoke Japanese with limited English understanding. They were very patient and took time to translate information on bus timings, routes and making reservations for restaurants close by. It was a 2-story building with reception, dining, lounge and drying room on the first floor, and rooms on the second floor. Came during a quiet time so it was not busy with other guests. Room space was adequate and we were able to keep our luggage open on the floor with enough space to walk. Room flooring was heated and hence made walking very comfortable in the rooms. Shower rooms on the first floor had a hot bath running, which was amazing in the winter. Location of the place was quite far from the main street Echoland, around 10-20 minutes walk (depending on conditions of the street).
- Xu (10/5): Great choice for ski stay - No fuss stay with helpful hosts. Very clean and comfortable place. Close to ski resort shuttles! Very grateful for the host helping us out when we arrived.

- Daisuke (10/5): - 非常に便利な場所でした。近くに色んなレストランがあったので楽しめました。
- Julien (10/5): - Honestly this place was awesome. Lovely couple that runs the place. Obviously it’s no 5 star but it’s as authentic as it gets. Really enjoyed my stay and would go back. Shuttle is pretty much right out the door and you can walk everywhere very easily. Loved it
- Verified traveler (2/5): - 壁が薄く、廊下で話す声は全部聞こえて、泊まってる人にもよりますが、子供が大声で話して親も一緒に声が大きく、廊下は静かにって貼り紙して欲しいくらいでした。
