Guest Reviews
- Olivia (9/5): - Cute and quirky. Easy to walk to from Karoomba station. The common areas are kept clean. I enjoyed chilling on the comfy sofa on the outdoor deck. I would come back.
- Glen (10/5): -
- Fraser (7/5): Nice place, good character - The house has a lot of character, and still has a lot of the original features.
The kitchen is nice and efficient - everyone has their own clearly marked areas. Felt very impersonal. I didn't deal with a staff member at any stage, instead just working off the automated emails.
Also, not really their fault, but just something to watch out for - I got phishing emails claiming they were from the property.
- Olivier (8/5): Very convenient, well appointed and cosy! - Communication, Location, good bathroom amenities, nice beds, lots of small practical stuffs (usb plugs on the wall for each bunk bed, miniature fans for each bunk bed, etc) Lounge and dining room feel rather squished to my taste
- Tracey (7/5): -
- Marcin (6/5): Not for light sleepers - A cosy little home, with friendly people and a great social vibe. I do not recommend this place to anyone who is a light sleeper. The rooms are very poorly soundproofed - you can hear people walking, talking, slamming doors, and even washing dishes or banging pots. I had a room next to the kitchen, and guests using it did not respect quiet hours. I didn't get a good sleep there.
- ELENA (8/5): - Gato y ambiente
- Agata (9/5): -
- Hannah (9/5): A cosy home in a lovely share space that has everything you need. - The house is lovely, each night a fire going. The room was cosy and comfortable and a nice space. Kitchen is well equipped and plenty of shared facilities. This is my second time staying here, I really enjoy it. Easy to check in and out and can walk (little hill) into town
- Victor (10/5): -
- George (10/5): Such a welcoming space, perfect to unwind after a day of hiking. - So cozy and family vibe. Such a good kitchen and living area. Free milk and cereal was such a nice bonus! N/A
- Bill And Deb (10/5): - The respect and friendliness of fellow guests.
- Matt (10/5): - Very friendly and nicely laid out. Catered for every need. It was a 10 minute up and down walk into town in the rain each time we went!
- Gutierrez Castañeda (10/5): - An amazing cozy hostel full of good vibes
- Karin (10/5): -
- Charlie (9/5): It feels like home! - I loved my stay! It's definitely the best place with dorm rooms to stay in Katoomba. The owner is so friendly, helpful and kind. The free all-day breakfast, including soy milk (and other milks), was a pleasant surprise.
There are plenty of seating areas inside and outside to eat meals. Many books on the shelves. Many pictures of the surrounding areas and wildlife.
I really appreciated the room/bed specific tray on the shelf for dry food, and the cloth bag for chilled food.
The bed was super comfortable. You don't have to pay for a towel. The only downside was that we had to use matches to light the gas stoves, but that was just a minor inconvenience.
- yannick (8/5): Excellent séjour, superbe demeure ancienne, cuisine et espaces communs top, excellent rapport Q/P -
- La (10/5): Very cozy and quiet accomodation in Katoomba - It was such a cozy accomodation, one could immediately feel relaxed after arrival. Very well organisied, from check-in procedure to kitchen equipment. I loved how there was created space in the kitchen / fridge for every room / dorm bed - so helpful! I would definitely love to come back!

- Emelie (7/5): - The location is just amazing. The place is super cozy and nice and I loved the interior decor, all the books and the fireplace, etc. The walls are so thin you can literally hear people breathing in the rooms next to yours. Had to use earplugs and put on some rain sounds on my phone to be able to sleep.
- Vasundhara (10/5): -
- Manuela (8/5): -
- Dr. Karl-Heinz (10/5): Great stay with Everything you Need - Very cozy Location Missing Air condition
- Paola (6/5): Good value for 1-2 night in Katoomba - Good location, easy check-in practical if you are on a budget. No soundproofing at all - prepare to use the earplugs provided
Beds are outdated
- Carina (9/5): Very nice :) - Alles super schön :) Küche etwas klein
- Laura (10/5): Amazing! couldn’t recommend more - Everything about this property is great, the shared kitchen is spacious and the bathroom is perfect with heaters outside the showers so your not cold. Very clean and homely. Met some of the nicest people here, would definitely stay again!
- Nell (7/5): - Original house, lovely old style, garden and verandah Loud hum of ?aircon unit next to bedroom 2 all night, hard to get to sleep
- Audrey (8/5): -
- WAI YEE (8/5): A beautiful facility. - Cute, homey, cozy. Location has limited bus services, at the bottom of a steep hill, difficult to drag luggages up to the train station.
Nulla.
- Geraldine (10/5): - The place, the location.... N/a
- Jeanette (10/5): A cozy stay - The accommodation is like staying at home! The bedrooms are so cozy. The bed really comfy and the shared facilities are great! The kitchen in particular is extremely well stocked for you to cook just about anything!

- Sandra Nikol (9/5): - We loved our stay at No14 Lovel Street. Very sweet house with a well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds quite atmosphere, and lovely owners. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a nice and relaxing stay!
- Emily (10/5): Amazing place! - I really enjoyed my stay at 14 Lovel St. The house is beautifully decorated and spotless. It's in a great location and Annette and Gavin were incredibly welcoming and helpful. It's also a very good place as a solo traveller to meet people. I wish I could have stayed longer and would definitely return if I came back to Katoomba.
- George (10/5): -
- Yannik (10/5): Absolutely cosy and like a home away from home - Absolutely comfortable, it's like a home away from home. Super nicely furnished, cosy, clean and has everything you need. The walls were very thin and you could hear a lot from other rooms, but it depends on the other guests and the owner provided more than enough earplugs!
- douglas (8/5): A delightful stay in a beautiful old fashioned building very fitting to the charm of Katoomba. - I loved the old world feel about the place. It was warm and cosy in the middle of Winter and the kitchen facilities were excellent. Other guests were friendly and the vibe was great. The bed was not super comfy but also not too bad.
- Francesco (10/5): -
- Koen (9/5): -
- Manuel (9/5): Cozy house a quick walk away from city Center - It was a very cosy house with a well equipped kitchen and a nice patio to enjoy your meals outdoors.

- Koen (10/5): -
- Kareen (10/5): -
- Frank (7/5): -
- nicole (9/5): It is very homey, place to stay. - I liked that when it was not busy I had my own space in a free standing bed in a dorm.
I liked that it had all the facilities needed and there was food for breakfast provided
Best thing is there verandha with a nice sitting area to read and listen to birds
There was also a lot of seating inside if it was cold. It is an old local house, so it was like a home away from home
There is even a bath. There is lots of information on local walks and the area. Nothing bad at all - but you still have to realize it is a hostel.
- Ayelén Pezzuto (10/5): -
- Catrin (9/5): -
- Robert (9/5): Very cosy. Great location, right next to Katoomba Main Street - The staff, the owner was lovely. Stopped in her tracks to have a nice conversation and give some information/advise of the blue mountains. N/a
Merci beaucoup! Rien

- Charlotte (9/5): -
- Sophie (10/5): -
- Changhee (10/5): The best place ever - This was the best place we stayed during our ten-day trip to Sydney.
My wife even said it was better than the Four Seasons.
The hiking trail recommended by the host was absolutely amazing and became one of the highlights of our trip. It made me realize that the true luck of travel lies in perspective, in the feeling of the day, and in how everything around you can become beautiful when it resonates with your heart.
Although it felt like a family home, it also had the charm of a small mountain cabin or a shared lodge. Without a doubt, this was the best accommodation of our entire Sydney journey.
Thank you so much! Not at all.
- john (10/5): Fabulous - The hoste
The room and the outdoor area
- Julia (10/5): Wholesome stay and cozy vibes - Beautiful guest house with great and clean facilities, good wifi and loved the tea/coffee available. It was a bit cold, but there is an electric(?) fireplace, which gives the vibe a good touch.
- Alfred (10/5): -
- Sarah (10/5): - I'm a repeat visitor to this lovely retreat...and share a mutual love for this yellow cottage... Annette has always greeted me in kind as the staff...this place makes me smile... it's so wonderful to have wooden beds and bunks with fresh cotton linen and a towel for good measure...There is a very sweet kitchen that takes you back in time with a book nook that you can retreat into with a novel and knitted blanket, the kind you made with your Nan many moons ago, so it very much feels like a home..I'm also a big fan of the peacock chair that allows you to soak in the misty fresh air with a coffee or your morning breakfast meal.. ❤️✨💕
- Buckley (10/5): - The whole feel was very cosy, beds were very comfortable and all facilities were clean and tidy. The kitchen was great in particular, has all the utensils you could need, clear storage and included breakfast (cereals) and 24hr access to tea and coffee and milk.
- maddie (10/5): -
- Katie (10/5): -
- Christine (9/5): -
- Jan (10/5): - Comfy and cozy place, Annette was a wonderful host and provides additional services like luggage storage and driving for very reasonable prices. She also knows the area very well and gives you great tips. Would definitely stay here again. While the house is a beautiful historic building, the walls are pretty thin. They do provide very good ear plugs though.
- Angel (10/5): Lovely Homely Stay - It’s downslope coming from the train station and upslope from you head to the train station so plan accordingly. Annette the owner is the soul of the place and you can feel how much care and love she has for the century old house by living in it. Bedding is super comfortable and the house and common areas are cleaned regularly everyday after the guests check out at 10am. This place has a lovely homely vibe. And it seems to attract people who are lovely, friendly, respectful, clean and positive. I stayed 6 nights in the 5-bedder and had some different room mates come and go but all of them sleep early like around 10pm (I guess because everyone wanted to start the bushwalking early next day) and nobody snored (I had my sleep app turned on to track), how amazing is that???
Clear instructions are given on putting away utensils that you have used and to clean them yourselves. Kitchen is well equipped with microwave, oven, toaster, stove etc. Refrigerator is well organised according to your room and clean.
I grow to love the house and also want to take good care of it by keeping it clean while I stayed there. And I hope people coming after me will feel the same too and take care of the house.
Self check in is clear and easy to understand. You can’t go wrong. Nothing. At first I was concerned there was no privacy curtains at the bed but once you turn off the lights the room is really dark and each bed has their own night light if they need to stay up later than the rest. So it wasn’t an issue anymore. And like I said, my various room mates were all very respectful and communal living so it was a joy sharing the room with them.
- Jan (9/5): Absolute positive - Atmosphere was excellent. Everything was there, complete facilities.
- Stephen (10/5): - Great location within walking distance to the train station and town. Annette was an amazing host. It had a very homely atmosphere.
- Alexandra (10/5): - I loved staying here so much I extended my stay. The location is beautiful, the house is so cosy and clean, I loved every second of being here. Annette is so kind and attentive, I really wish I could stay forever! It's the perfect mountain getaway
- Hannah (10/5): Perfect in every way for a beautiful quiet get away from city life. A place to stay if you’re staying in the blue mounta - The property was in an easy location to get to from katoomba station and lots of the walking trails. The house was homely from the moment you arrived with cute outdoor decor and various sitting spaces. Inside was even more picturesque and so familiar. The rooms were comfy and cute, very well decorated. The kitchen area had everything you needed for making food (utensil wise) and even things like oil, salt and pepper. There was always milk (soy and cows) in the fridge for cereal at any time or just a tea or coffee. The sitting spaces were beautiful and made it a cosy comfy vibe to get to know other people or just sit and read a book. I loved all of it and don’t have a bad word to say about the place. N/a
- Borja (10/5): -
- Megan (10/5): Comfortable stay in the Blue Mountains with free parking outside - Great location and free parking outside. Comfortable beds and lots of information about the area. Very thorough details about check in sent beforehand. Well equipped kitchen that was very clean. The walls are paper thin and you will hear everything e.g. a phone charger being plugged in. The host supplies earplugs for this but a warning if you’re a light sleeper.
- Lennart (10/5): -
- Chia-Jui (10/5): -
- Serina (10/5): -
- Laura Vg (10/5): Perfect - Great place to stay close to the train station. Communication was friendly and swift. The guesthouse is super cozy and has a true house feeling with a fireplace, books and seating area. We were grateful we could store our luggage for free as the luggage storage was closed that day. Very clean facilities as well. We loved everything!
- Loïc (10/5): Impeccable - Très bien Rien
- Sarah (10/5): - I think this was my 5th or 6thth visit, love 14 Lovel Street, the homey vibes and beautiful space that nurtures your soul, Annette and hubby are very inviting as are the guests.. Thanks Again Sarah 😁 It's a warm, inviting and comfy little nest.. feel very much at home here. It's so nice to have a wooden bed and fresh linen.

- Scott (9/5): - Easy check-in. All that you need in self-catering accommodation with great guidelines/information for all residents. All the essentials from fly spray, paper towel, and ear plugs for all residents. Interesting history of the place. Corridor light shining through the door of room 4 = dimmer night light needed for the passage.
- Steve (8/5): Old school charm - Old school comfort. Great location, value, clean comfortable and relaxing. This is our second time here and will stay again Rooms can get hot as there's no AC or fan
Garnichts
