Guest Reviews
- Bernd (8/5): Very charming (as my wife says). - The ambiance and setting with surrounding saloon and lounge area. The western style.
- Iana (10/5): -
- McFarland (9/5): Unique, Groovy, and Cosmic - The Blue Moon Saloon & Guest House is a fantastically unique experience. They have private as well as dorm-style rooms that are all named and themed. The old house these rooms are all inside is beautiful and the fact that the saloon is right there with live music and outside seating is definitely a plus. (Also one of the employees brought their cat to roam the outside of the property and that cat was the sweetest thing ever) I enjoyed everything, but the live music late into the evening definitely might make it difficult for some to sleep. If that's troublesome for some folks, I would suggest perhaps booking on dates they do not have live performers at the saloon. Personally, though, I happened to like the ambient noise and conversation through the walls of my room. To each their own.
- shirin (9/5): - Super Konzert!
- Neal (10/5): -
- Craig (8/5): -
- Iberia (4/5): - We cancelled and co promised the 50$ cancelation fee The room next to the kitchen where people were cooking. And I am not too keen on sharing bathroom
- Patsy (10/5): You'll be completely over the Moon! - I loved the Blue Moon Guesthouse! We had The Balcony room which is on the upper floor. It has a lovely little private porch area where you can sit with your morning coffee or a glass of wine and watch the sunset. Lovely big comfortable bed and a bathroom with two separate showers! Perfect! There is a big communal kitchen with the all important coffee machine (perfectly clean) and a lovely sitting room with armchairs and a piano. The Blue Moon Saloon itself is around the back and they had great music for the two nights we were there. Extremely welcoming bar staff (Zeke and Kat) and also the cat -Fourteen! The Blue Moon is also at the top end of Jefferson Street within an easy stroll of lots of great restaurants. In particular Pamplona and Vestal. I loved everything! Thank you Rabby for a great stay!
- Estienne (5/5): - Le charme d’une maison ancienne
Cuisine fonctionnelle Sanitaire moyen, pleins de moustiques
Mauvaise literie, désuétude des portes et fenêtres. Micro onde tout rouillé à l’intérieur. Le prix n’est pas justifié.
- Lauren (9/5): -
- robert (10/5): - Location / music
- Laurie (8/5): -
- Michael (5/5): This is a goof place if you are staying to enjoy the band that is playing there. - The location was good. The place was quaint however there was a homeless person hanging out on the porch and I needed to request his removal.
The bedroom was tiny and the air conditioning was not able to keep the room cool. Additionally the only room other that the bathroom was the bedroom which shared a wall with the wall on the stage the band played on. were we literally 2 feet from the drummer and there was only a 10 foot space for the stage. We were able to sleep after the band quit after spending the evening in the living room reading.
- Michael (10/5): - Good music, great building, full of character and good bar prices !
- Guy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Guy (10/5): Exceptional - Quaint, cool vibes, great location.
- Linda (6/5): - Music best part.
- Josephine (10/5): - Wonderful property - charming, comfortable, clean and perfectly located. Extended our stay!
- Jaideep (8/5): Decent and economic - The location felt safe and was quiet. It was a quiet evening so didnt see anyone else at the property. Missing some toiletries.
- STEVEN (10/5): - No comment as a REQUIREMENT
- Constance (10/5): - Such a wonderful, quirky place. Do not expect perfection, but expect an unforgettable time.
- Faribault-ménard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (10/5): - This property is unique in that it's a house with shared common spaces. Shared spaces include the kitchen, family room and dining room. It's connected to a music venue through the kitchen. We came to see a musician and it was delightful that he was hanging out in the kitchen with us between sets!
- Annie (10/5): Great location - Close to downtown Small room for the price
- Loïs (1/5): An experience that I won't do again. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE DURING WINTER !!! - Pretty house and bedroom with a great bar/concert venue: authentic place Extremely cold! I know this was an unusual temperature for Louisiana, but this place had NO HEATER! The entire house was freezing, and there were only five space heaters total (including in the bedrooms). Some guests even left and rented a room in another hotel instead.
On top of that, there was no staff present—with this kind of weather, that’s a huge lack of professionalism and care for customers. After my stay, they asked me how many stars I would give out of 5. I said 2, only because I think the place might be nice in the summer (I really think it can be a gem with better care). But after that, they didn’t respond, apologize, or acknowledge my feedback—just confirming that they don’t care about doing a great job. So for me, this is a BIG 1-star experience!
To give you a better idea: in my bedroom, I had to wear two sweaters plus a jacket just to stay warm. The only other time I’ve experienced something like that was in the French Alps, where I had to start the heating in a friend's house and unfreeze frozen pipes—which made sense in that context. But paying for this kind of experience? Absolutely unacceptable!
And if that wasn’t enough, the fuses broke three times. The second time, I had to fix it myself because the maintenance guy just explained how to do it over the phone. I did it once, but I refused to keep doing it—I didn't pay for that.
And one last thing: no heater in the bathroom. PERFECT! Just what you want when it’s freezing.
- Jodie (8/5): - This home is a beautiful, historic home. It is a unique experience to be sure. I was a little concerned with the neighborhood when we pulled in, but once inside was happy about my choice. The only troubles we had really came from the unusually cold weather. We do not normally need space heaters, but this is an old home and the breakers kept tripping.
- Jon (4/5): Average Airbnb experience for premium hotel prices - Good location, and looks like it could be a good hotel under different circumstances ‘Contactless’ check in means no staff whatsoever. Only had one towel, never got sorted before we left despite contacting the owner.
Bar was shut both days we were there and that was one of the main reasons for stopping.
Weird layout and lack of info meant we weren’t sure whether certain areas were communal or not.
- Veni (2/5): Worst Ever! - In all my extensive travelsI have never written a poor hotel review ever but feel I wanna warn people. If I wanted to stay in the dump, I would not be paying almost $300 for two nights.
Instructions were to park in the lot across the street with the yellow fence however, there were towing signs all along there with another business’s name so I didn’t want to risk it and had to park on the street.
I did not receive a check in text after confirming my reservation. I wandered back to the bar area. The bartender had to text the manager to get the code for me to enter. He was very nice, but it’s not secure if someone’s got your entry code and room code on their phone.
I texted management that I have not received check-in information and they finally sent the code to me later in the day
There is no shower. This was not disclosed in any of the information I read. I would not think to ask if a shower existed when I’m paying top dollar for a stay. Alas.
I followed up with the manager, a second time with questions and received zero response. I guess he already had my money so…
The place smelled musty and moldy when I walked in.
The bed was extremely lumpy.
Floors were dirty and gritty.
The freezer had a disgusting plastic ice mold.
Well, I knew there was a bar in the back of the building. I did not expect the walls to be paper thin. The music was so loud the entire place shook.
There are so many better options in Lafayette. Don’t be fooled by the photos.
- Philip (8/5): A very laid-back place - which suited us fine. -
- Jay (8/5): Very good -
- Perry (10/5): Great location and a very cool vibe. - This is a great location if you are interested in music, dancing, and eating in downtown Lafayette. The venue often has great music going and it is a pleasure to have it right outside your room. Very groovy vibe. I particularly enjoyed hanging out on the patio during the day and walking around downtown.
- Helene (8/5): Very good - Old wooden town house, spacious living room and well equipped kitchen, (shared) bathroom clean, soap and shampoo available. Comfortable bed. Host is very responsive by email, code check in. Annex bar/music scene is noisy but it is clearly indicated when booking, so bring earplugs or enjoy the music. One night the kitchen was occupied during dinner time by the band, but nice restaurant options on a short walking distance. Also for safety (I did not encounter any issues though) always lock your bedroom door as during the live performances lot of people can walk in and out.
- Kim (4/5): - We have stayed here a few times and although its basically a hostel so thats what our expectation is based on there was broken front door lock, no clear alternative how to enter property after being out and dead roaches on floor. There was no window covering in bathroom window and door to bathroom was difficult to keep closed so anyone in line at borden could see ypu naked if ypu were exiting or standing in bathroom.
- Urs (8/5): - Nice old house, close to town.. we enjoyed our stay.
- Ryan (7/5): Pretty cool hidden place - Very cool place with bar on site. Very courteous staff. Good for a young crowd or young couple. Noisy but expected with the bar attached.
- Sejani (10/5): Exceptional - A really fun and welcoming place to stay. Music out the back was excellent. Definitely recommend! Nothing, had a great time.
- Natalie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Terri (10/5): Will stay here again! - What a great place to stay! Friendly folks, good location, great live music. We loved everything about our room and our stay at the Blue Moon.
- Andrew (10/5): - Top quirky b and b. Balcony room fab. Great for when music on.
Highly recommended particularly if you prefer individual to brand!
- Graham (7/5): excellent for downtown lafayette - interesting place in good downtown location all good
- Donna (3/5): Poor - Really not worth the rate charged. Terrible bathroom.
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional - The music is great
- Carl (5/5): Charming house, but basic and could have been cleaner overall. Kitchen and bathroom were very clean - Location Very expensive compared to other places
- Eva (10/5): Best stay on our US trip - Absolutely amazing stay at the Guesthouse! We stayed in the Birdsnest Room.
There is a venue in the guesthouse, where bands were playing. The noise from the concert could not be heard in the room/very minimal noise from the concert. The bands were amazing and the concert goers were respectful. It was such a great atmosphere throughout the whole evening.
Bathroom: The Birdsnest is the only room with its own bathroom. This bathroom has no showers but a nice and clean bathtub. We didn't use the bathtub, we used the communal showers on the ground floor. Clean towels, soaps, and even a toothbrush was provided.
Room: Bed was super comfortable and the room was clean and little small birds all over the room which was a nice touch.
Location: Just a few minutes away from downtown, Restaurants, bakery, supermarket and lots of other bars in a short walking distance. (5-10 minutes)
Facilities: There is a kichen with communal fridge, freezer with ice, utensils and free coffee. There is a sitting room with games and comfy couches.
Parking: we arrived on a friday afternoon, that meant parking on the road is free after 5pm and all weekend so we could park next to the guesthouse on the road (during the week there are a few parking lots nearby but not sure about the costs)
Customer Service: Zeke was there to answer our questions, he was really friendly and accomodating. The person at the door for the concert was super friendly as well and our very favourite was 14 the cat who even spent the morning hanging out with us on the porch. The check in is via doorcode so there is no person to checkin with.
We really enjoyed out time at the Blue Moon, it was our favourite place to stay on our whole roadtrip and if we come back, we definitely will stay there again! The shutters in the room were fairly broken. Lots of light comes through and there is not much privacy.
We could hear the people from the room next door talking.
Checking in is via a document which has to be filled out just before getting into the guesthouse. My internet wasn't very good and it was a bit of a problem uploading the photo to get the access information since there is no reception. It'd be all easier if a person would be there, but it did work out in the end.
- Yolanda (5/5): Passable - Nice concept on having a guest house and a saloon, the reunion was great, good music funny people. The old house has a charming vibe, common areas are good, comfortable. My room was small and narrow, no windows, kind of claustrophobic. not enough plugs, not hangers, but the room was clean. I wasn't sure about the location when I arrived, but location is good, close to all the things you want to visit. I was a little shock when I arrived, nobody was there but I contacted the person in charge and everything flow.
- Waits (3/5): If you want to go to sleep before 1 am, don't stay here. - Great location. Bartender was onsite and helped with the check-in process and was overall very helpful, even though it's not his job to take care of guests at the inn. There is absolutely no information on Booking.com that our room "Bois Sec" on the ground floor is the back wall of the outdoor stage. With live music going until midnight and house music on until 1 am, the entire inn is very loud and you can't even be in that room. I understand that it's a live music venue, but if you are going to rent a room that is basically in the drum kit, that information needs to be clearly stated. The booking.com description of the room is misleading. There is no terrace, there is no natural light because all of the windows are covered with plywood, and the automated bot that acted as the go-between was unhelpful.
- Charlie (10/5): - It was amazingly clean and super comfy. Great location and is in the middle of events like Mardi Gras parade. They are a contactless establishment but very easy to check in and thorough with what to do and always can be contacted during your stay by text and responds quickly. Loved that the salon was on property but is alittle noisy when trying to go to sleep but didn’t really bother us .
- Simon (8/5): Very good -
- Christin (6/5): - For what this is- a hostel - it’s nice. A few things would have helped us as travelers so I do want to point out a few things.
It’s cold in the winter in the rooms. They have a space heater but it’s still cold. There are no drawers. I highly suggest - if you need drawers (like we do) there are none.
We also needed to plunge the toilet. So if you don’t know how to do that be aware!
There are also no windows. I thought there were some behind the curtains but- it’s boards. I wish I had known these things. It was very clean.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The house was clean and the instructions were good to get in and for the room. The mattress needs to be replaced in the Galorie room and there was a loud clanking noise outside the window with the wind blowing.
- Lauren (10/5): Super cute, great location, friendly staff - The location and facilities are amazing. It's a little pricey but that can be mitigated with using their awesome kitchen to prepare your own meals. We were happy to have the opportunity to meet other travelers and chat with the bartender when we stopped by the bar next door. It was all a treat after a tiring semester.
- Florian (4/5): disturbing - bathroom is no ensuite, floor in bathroom totally wrecked, AC not working, windows not adjustable
- Kerry (9/5): It was a great place to stay! - Great location! Super helpful staff emailing information and check-in. Walked to the corner convince store and the Borden ice cream and food was awesome! The free drink ticket y’all gave us for your saloon was great! Enjoyed the people and music! I thought the music might be too loud while sleeping but it wasn’t! It didn’t have a TV. Need a curtain on the window beside the door going out to the balcony and window in the bathroom.
- Faith (10/5): Passed a good time at the Blue Moon! - Great place to relax and enjoy yourself. Good music, (Saturday night). Our room was the Balcony. Very nice and yes, with a balcony. The room is spacious and the bed is comfortable. The common areas downstairs are really enjoyable and have a warm ambience.
Downtown is literally across the street.
And really just across the street is Bordens ice cream. Banana splits, sundaes and more just like they were 45 years ago.
We will return.
- Darla (9/5): It was super clean and cute and roomy! We had a great time! - Michelle was wonderful and the owner was very accommodating it was great
- Elaine (10/5): Cannot wait to return! - Very cute and well maintained. Staff go above and beyond for you. Great location to the Main Street. Ideal location if you don’t have a car with an amazing music venue out the back ..
- Paul (10/5): Fun place to stay that is surprisingly comfortable and well appointed - Great shared lounge space and kitchen with very clean bedroom and bathroom. Plus there’s a bar in site and live music!
- Lillian (6/5): - Great location, and easy to access! The bed was very uncomfortable, but everything else was good!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Weekend Getaway - We stayed in the Bird's Nest room. Found it to be comfortable and clean.
- Paul (10/5): Comfortable and felt like home - Unique and fully stocked It was all great
- Yi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fiona (4/5): Disappointing - The location was great, looked really quirky. Lack of communication and not very impersonal.
- Tuan (7/5): Good - location cleanliness
- Wing (7/5): Good - clean, functional, no hassle, reasonably well stocked kitchen area. large, clean comfort common share area the room was above the concert area for the saloon. though the sound prove is quite good, music and bass does filter through. and concert did not end at 10.
- Adam (10/5): Great spot - Great location, comfy room, very clean. Love the bohemian vibe. Just wish I was there on an open saloon night.
- Reza (8/5): Historic guesthouse - Cool and spacious room with a nice guest house living area downstairs. The bar and bands were good too, and a nice touch to have some free drinks tokens with the room! The room got really quite hot overnight and the a/c is very noisy so that wasn't ideal. Also, although the noise from the gig was expected, the street itself remained quite noisy for a while so something to consider if you're sensitive to noise.
- PATRICK (10/5): - Clean close to areas of interest
- Joe (8/5): Blue Moon - Liked the room and the decor in the house - that was cool. I thought that there would be people working in the saloon - perhaps it's closed on a Sunday. I chose the location based on the live music etc. so it was disappointing that there was none of that, but, again, maybe that is because it was a Sunday.
- William (8/5): - Nice and clean, bed was extremely comfortable
- Daan (5/5): Passable - Bed was comfortable, rest was ok for 1 night Found a cockroach when we left, place smelled like urine in the hallway. I understand it's an old building but with a bit more maintenance, it could be much better in my opinion. Would not stay here again.
- Wolfgang (10/5): LOUISIANA heart and soul of music in the wonderful BLUE MOON - If you love the LOUSIANA culture and heritage and look for an authentic place with a MUSIC heart and soul then you find in the BLUE MOON GUEST HOUSE a hidden treasure. We had the charming "BALCONY" room with a private terrace. You feel that the owners trust their guests and that you are really welcome: you can move free in the house and use the kitchen and the outside terrace near the entrance. The BLUE MOON MUSIC club in the same building is an amazing place. We could enjoy an unplugged CAJUN jam session with 15 musicians and there was even offered free Lousiana food. As a guest you find a voucher for a free drink at the BLUE MOON bar when you check in in your room. All is very nice. Nothing. We had a perfect stay. I think the guests going there know what they can expect there (as: live music in the evening or a shared kitchen). This is an authentic place with a history and not a standard hotel.
- Anonymous (8/5): Great price, fun and walkable area. - the saloon w great music I was the only one in the house, contactless entry (easy) but wanted more social activity. BUT might be too noisy if full!
- Vicky (8/5): Very good - A cool place with lots of character. Next to a bar with great live music - I went to the Wednesday night cajun jam. The contactless set-up - I was lucky that the cleaner was there when I arrived. She welcomed me and showed me around. In general as a solo traveller I prefer to have someone on-site.
- Mike (10/5): - Live music downstairs.
- Jacob (8/5): Very good - interesting type of hostel, more than traditional hotel; that was fine, but we were not really aware when arriving; parking in the street was fine; the bed very high and soft, but it worked out; we had no performance on the two nights in town, that might have been a different experience
- Jacob (10/5): Amazing spot with live music and great vibes - beautiful space nothing
- Neal (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emelie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Matthew (10/5): - Place was fantastic and surprisingly kid friendly. There is no bathroom in the rooms. Fantastic experience though.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joann (10/5): - Very cozy room, large balcony, comfy bed, plenty of towels and little lagniappes. Didn’t use the kitchen but looked immaculate and well-stocked, huge and welcoming like an old fashioned kitchen. Easy access to guesthouse and room. We were welcomed upon entering by a smartly dressed guest from Denmark in the entrance parlor as he was reading by lamplight. Best part of all? Dancing the two-step in the Blue Moon Bar out back to some awesome local musicians & sipping a cocktail after driving from Houston in an unrelenting downpour and under tornado watch! So glad we chose this destination!
- John (10/5): - Best kept secret in Lafayette
- Marie-aude (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (9/5): Superb - Really nice place with a lot of cajunfeeling in it, the jamsession in the bar was amazing
- Christina (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- dianne (10/5): - Funky old house with cool decorated rooms. My only complaint and it’s not really, but the house was cold and they did have space heaters going. Loved the outdoor areas even if the saloon wasn’t open. Very cool stay, would def recc to friends.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Great place. Room was huge and comfortable, even had my own little private balcony. Communication was excellent. So enjoyed the evening in the saloon with the Cajun jam!!
- Mia (8/5): Very good -
- matthew (4/5): - Comfortable room with ice cold ac. Complicated check in and no TV's.
- Massimo (5/5): Friendly, but disorganised. Has gone downhill, was a regular but doubt I would return - Staff was polite, friendly and helpful when around. Was given two free drinks at the bar, which I appreciated. Also have live music on site. Complicate and unnecessary cumbersome new self check-in system; I was able to check in only thanks to the help of another guest as my phone would not upload my passport picture, which meant trusting a complete stranger with my passport information. Also, there was music until 3am, then someone started playing again at 7.30am. Great party atmosphere and friendly people, but if you are looking for a decent night of sleep look elsewhere. If you want coffee in the morning need to bring your own. I'd say overpriced given the above, but they offer 10% discount to returning guests.
- Dustin (10/5): - I’m afraid to share this review because it’ll bring proper praise to this place. The Blue Moon is absolutely magical. It’s entire concept is built around culture, community and music. Any adventure into this part of the world should include a stay in this truck special place.
- Kathryn (10/5): Amazing stay - We absolutely loved our stay at Blue Moon Guest House. The house itself has a lot of character and its kept very clean. Our room had everything we needed! The highlight was being able to go downstairs and next door to the saloon to see the Wednesday Cajun jam. Would definitely recommend anyone to stay here.
- Katharine (10/5): Incredibly charming - Just heaven - a deeply charming spot in the middle of Lafayette, that felt like traveling back in time. Live music, free food, wonderful vibes, and a lovely/very functional house to stay in. Self check-in and out was seamless. Everything was great
- Andrea (8/5): Hip and clean hostel - The place is well kept and is definitely worth a stay if you happen to be around. The saloon is an ideal hotspot to dive into the Cajun music. The airconditioning of the room would need an upgrade.
- B&t (10/5): loved our stay in the Balcony Room with private facilities; in-house bar and band on a Friday night were awesome, terrif - unique B&B in Lafayette N/A
- Christopher (9/5): Excellent location with loads of character! - Loved the local art and the piano! Bed was very high off the ground - hard to get in to.
