Nicola (5/5): Mixed emotions after our Wedding Day - We booked this room for the night of our wedding at The Secret Garden on the 15th of May 2026. Beautiful hotel room, huge bath in the room, stunning decor, all situated in an amazing old pub. Arrived at the hotel following our evening reception and we both wanted to freshen ourselves up after a long day. Thought it would be a great idea to take advantage of the beautiful bath; however there was no hot water!!! And no shower in the room to jump through quickly. In the morning we attempted to run the bath again, but there was still no hot water. My husband spoke to a member of staff, who stated he had restarted the boiler and could offer us a boiling pan of water. We were extremely cautious about the time as we had breakfast booked and needed to checkout by 11:00am. My husband and I ended up have a quick wash at the sink and my husband washing my hair (with cold water) over the bath. There was no apologies from staff. My husband and I headed to The Premier Inn Ashford Central to use our family members facilities. Such a shame as this was booked for our Wedding night.

Breakfast hamper was a lovely touch, as we couldn't stay for breakfast. Could do with space in the bathroom to put toiletries bag.

Jude (8/5): Well worth a visit. - I love the property. The garden Restaurant and pub were excellent. The room was really comfortable and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was included in the price however with only one member of staff on duty the service was really slow, not helped by the fact that the bar was open to the public. When a party or about 10 people arrived, the waiter serve them before serving us so he had to wait quite a long time, which was very annoying. So I suggest putting on more staff in the morning.

I have stayed here several times but this last stay was by far the best. There is not one thing I did not like. Oh I forget - it was a little windy 😁

Abbie (10/5): Amazing pub, Amazing staff and great food especially for a small evening wedding reception ❤️ - Absolutely stunning place ❤️ we had our evening wedding meal at the 5 bells and evening wedding reception with close family and friends coming to celebrate our special day and we was vey impressed with the staff ! They were incredible ❤️ they catered to every need, want and request and went above and beyond! The food was sensational especially the home made scotch egg ! And the breakfast was amazing to memo and the team have been incredible from planning to the actual day and I would highly recommend anyone to go there for a meal and also stay ❤️ This isn’t a negative at all as we enjoyed our entire stay ❤️ but maybe something to look at. But me and my husband had the superior suite which is beautiful ! But we was talking about it and if you have wedding parties or even special staycations we would’ve said that the room with the copper bath would be more suitable to advertise as the superior room more then the one we stayed in ❤️ it was all beautifully laid out. It’s just a thought we had ☺️

The room is very cozy and loved the extra touches like the Port in the bedroom, teas were really high quality as were the bathrooms shampoos. The bathrobes were lovely as well and loves the Roberts radio too. There's no TV, although not a deal breaker that was a surprise.

Mari (10/5): Luxury home away from home - We stayed for two nights in the Bacchus Room and had a wonderful experience. The staff were incredibly polite and attentive throughout our stay. The room itself is amazing, and we felt very comfortable the entire time. The food was absolutely delicious, and the breakfasts were some of the best we’ve had. Every detail of the stay was perfect. The fireplace and the freestanding bath are definitely the stars of the show and made the experience feel extra special. We left feeling completely relaxed and would highly recommend staying here. We can’t wait to come back! Nothing. We cannot wait to come back.

amanda (9/5): Perfect stay, perfect place - Rooms are spotless, beds comfortable and really lovely touches such as small bottle of port in our rooms (which was lovely to come back to after our meal). We were in Golding. The restaurant/bar area is really comfortable with a lovely atmosphere and cosy with the log fires. Our meal was delicious (other than a few undercooked chips) but it did not detract from a really pleasant stay in this gorgeous establishment. Breakfast was also yummy with great strong cappuccinos. We had been before over 10 years ago and stayed in the Bacchus room, which was outstanding, but we were not in any way disappointed this time around, standards are still very high. What is there not to like!

Batchelor (7/5): lovely pub with great food and staff, but had to order a KFC for Sunday dinner - The pub is excellent and staff very friendly. We had a lovely dinner at the pub on the Saturday evening - great food and drinks. We also liked the location and local walks. Two things were not so good: 1. The bed wasn't comfortable for two people. 2. We struggled to get food on Sunday evening as the pub was fully booked / very busy and the kitchen closed early (5 or 6pm). As we had had some drinks in the pub before it closed, we ended up ordering a KFC with Deliveroo. The KFC was fine ... but didnt feel ideal - especially as we had to eat it in the room as the pub area is off limits once it is closed. All of that said, the staff were all very friendly.

Our room was in the eaves and had wonderful character with a free standing bath and lots of quirky antiques and paintings all around. The bed was extremely comfortable and my husband and I slept very well. The coffee machine in the bedroom didn’t work very well but wasn’t a big problem as there was tea bags available too. Maybe a fruit tea option would be nice too.

Terasa (8/5): Beautiful place - we would go back there. Lovely breakfast and great staff. - This is a beautiful pub with gorgeous rooms. The staff are really nice and the food and atmosphere were amazing. A lot of time and effort has been spent on the rooms. We had a copper bath and copper sinks and a big comfortable bed. My two criticisms are that we didn't fancy getting in and out of a big slipper bath (being nearly 70!). Be aware that in the Ortego room, there is no shower. The lighting could be better but perhaps that's our fault for not working out how to switch all the lights on. The tea/coffee making facilities are in a cupboard and we couldn't see everything because it was too dark in that part of the room.

JulesDomanski (8/5): Beautiful historic inn - Beautiful historic, quirky building with fitting decor throughout. The pub is lovely - delicious dinner and excellent breakfast in the morning. The rooms are all unique and filled with fun details. Lovely toiletries. Great location for walkers and for those wanting to visit local vineyards. The bed in our room was a double but the mattress slanted down on both sides so we had to huddle in the centre or risk falling off! Definitely think they could either put a bigger bed in the space or get a new mattress. For this reason we didn't sleep well but this was really our only complaint.

We loved the Innovative and quirky decor throughout. Bed was so comfy and the complimentary port for a night cap,loved it. So nice that there was no TV. In the bedroom too. Complimentary breakfast delicious and plenty food, hot and cold drinks to start your day. Definitely would really recommend staying here. Thank you for making our stay so lovely.

The room was quiet, clean, comfortable and eclectically decorated, in keeping with the age of the building. Food was really lovely and breakfasts especially worthy of note. Ideally located as a centre for a south Kent break but also very close to the Eurotunnel terminal. We stayed for two nights but didn’t want to leave. Larger cups or mugs in your room for tea/ coffee- totally understand you're creating an old world feel/ theme with tiny bone China cups, but perhaps provide an alternative.

Er wordt duidelijk veel aandacht besteed aan het geheel met oog voor details, een originele inrichting en attente eigenaren en bediening. Persoonlijke aandacht en fantastisch vers bereid ontbijt. Mooie omgeving. Erg van genoten. Het is een oud pand en de kamers bevinden zich bovenin, dus reken op trapjes en lage balken, wat ongemak voor lange mensen.

Loved the bath and the complimentary port in the room was a nice touch. It’s a little loud in the bedrooms while the pub is open. If you’re eating/drinking in the pub or out elsewhere then it won’t be a problem for you, but if you were wanting a quiet evening while the pub is still open you’re unlikely to get one. Really loved the copper bath tub but having a shower available too would be ideal.

And even then the service was slow and disorganised. Lipstick on my juice glass. There was also a problem with wasps whilst we stayed which made the garden impossible to use, which was a shame. And the room was so hot and the fan provided wasn’t really enough.

Anu (9/5): A charming place to stay - A charming ancient building and the room had so much character. Thoughtful touches throughout, such as milk in the fridge for coffee or tea. Lovely surroundings for country walks. Excellent breakfast and great staff. It was also quiet as the activity in the pub downstairs finished quite early. It didn’t bother me at all, as I never use those, but there was no TV, WiFi or AC. Also the room may not be good for people who have difficulty walking (steep stairs and differing floor levels in the room).

On Expedia and other booking sites it states: Sunday till 9pm. After booking we got a mail from the property that it’s 6pm. Rechecked on their website and it stated 7pm. Really unclear and no response to mails. After a call the helpful lady made arrangements to help us which was great. Could be a five star review if this gets sorted.
