Gary (6/5): - We knew, going in, that there would be no one at the desk between 8pm and 7am, but at the cost for a stay, there really should be. Also, no one was at the desk until about 7:30am. Also, don't stay in 103. There is a sound coming through the bedside wall every 10 minutes that's loud enough to keep you awake. Know that there is no free continental breakfast.
Thomas (2/5): - this room is filthy. It looks like there were strippers here an hour ago confetti beads and unpopped balloon and glitter and liquid stains on the floor. No one at the front desk after 8 pm Burned out lightbulbs This is my first and last time staying here
Verified traveler (8/5): Comfortable by in slaw decline - Signed in by an apathetic teenager. Room was nice. Bed was very comfortable. Pool was filthy and unusable. On site restaurant was abandoned. No breakfast offered. Woken at 6am by slamming doors, banging and loud talking.
Eric (10/5): - This lodge is a hidden gem in the beauty of the Louisiana's countryside. The room was large enough that there was plenty of room to walk between the beds and the walls. For dinner we walked to the recently opened restaurant and were happy we did. My husband and I had the grilled shrimp. It was amazing. As golfers we wished that we would have had time to play 18 holes.
Greg (8/5): - Positives: Comfortable and clean accommodations. Conveniently located near Poverty Point. Opportunities for improvement: Pre payment with Expedia did not show in hotel's records. Reservation paperwork and clerk said breakfast was included. This was not the case. TV screen very tiny and volume locked at very low level. And would be helpful to only display those channels subscribed to.

Jennifer (6/5): - The area up to and surrounding the place was beautiful. Room were good and clean and stocked. Must be having drainage problems because the tub took forever to drain from shower. Lights were out on the outside of the building. Didn’t get to swim in the pool because it looked cloudy and murky. The absolute worst part is that someone is not there 24 hours. This would be ok if their emergency numbered for answered when you called it. We went to a wedding next door at the golf course and made it back about midnight. Our key cards no longer worked. We called the emergency number more times than I can count and left voice messages along with text messages with no response. We finally called the sheriffs office who said they would come to help. Finally someone answered the phone after after 40 min without apologizing said there was a master key in the box outside. No microwaves in the room however there is a tiny one at the front of the place.

MARSTON (6/5): - The included breakfast was very bad both days and cold. When I stayed in June it was much better. The first day my wife and I were the only 2 in the restaurant, and the food took exactly 40 minutes to come and most was luke warm or cold. The older gentleman in the pro shop was not nice, dismissive and unhelpful. The 3 different ladies at the front desk were nice. I gave a guest a cigar and he invited me to play golf with him, but I was unable to because I was leaving.

Debra (8/5): - It is a quant facility as long as it’s daylight. The property is in a unique location (hidden), I think this was initially intentional, for whatever reason. However, safety and security is an issue that needs addressing. Need to add lighting to and around the site. Unless you are back at the site before dark, expect a scary and unnerving drive through dark and unmarked roads to arrive at the site, thank goodness there was a full moon, it’s light helped me a little and I was traveling alone which made it worse. There is not even a street light to turn off the highway to get to the lodge. My room was on the second floor which you have to use outside stairs to get to, however, there was no light by the stairs and doorway, very unsafe. Overall, the room is pleasant except There is no security chain on the door. There was no iron in the room. Didn’t know if one was available at the desk, didn’t have time to check. Security and safety are big issues, however, with this being the only choice for lodging in the area they probably don’t care, but safety should be a priority.

LaSonya (10/5): Hidden gem - I am from the area but returning for a funeral after being away for more than 20 years, never knew this hidden gem was there. I loved everything about it. Perfect place to get away.
Russell (4/5): - No fridge, microwave or a big enough TV to see :). Front desk was very nice. Breakfast is in another building and has to be walked or driven too.
Russell (4/5): - Good: the people working are all very kind and the rooms are clean Bad: it looks like they stopped maintenance maybe 3 or 4 years ago. Unfinished jobs, pool in bad shape, outside light post down, trash outside, lots of bugs in light fixtures. The TV as 20 super small and you have to walk or drive over for breakfast. Side note no breakfast on Mondays :(
Lorie (8/5): - The rooms are very spacious and have a beautiful view. The beds are clean and decently comfortable. This is our second stay here and both times there were massive amounts of Asian beetles everywhere. Every light fixture down the hall and in the rooms are full of them. The couches and chairs could use a good cleaning. Be sure and bring soap for tub and hand soap because they provide neither. The pool was disgusting and swampy green. Needs to be cleaned or drained. There was no ice in the ice machine either.

Amy (2/5): - We did not stay and have not been refunded our money. We entered the room and the entire wall was literally covered with ladybugs and the beds were saturated with bed bugs. The infestation left the room with a musky sweet smell to it. It was enough to make you vomit. We had to reload the car and fight off the visiting varmint from the woods as we tried to do so (bear, bobcat, etc.) The kids were in tears and we had to drive almost 30 miles away to find alternative lodging. Thank God the Holiday inn had a room for us, a clean room. Heed this warning, do not believe the pictures.

Jennifer (8/5): - Room and bedding mostly clean. Room needs updates and repairs. Wall next to shower had mold showing through where it looked like they had tried to repair the wall. There was fresh drywall mud but it had a big spot of mold growing in it and it was damp to the touch. The wall unit AC needs cleaning as we both woke up sneezing and stuffy. The bedding is very nice but the beds squeak loudly and are fairly hard. The toilet was extremely slow to flush but it worked. Vending machine in the hallway did not work. In room coffee pot had a layer of a tar-like substance in the bottom so we could not make coffee in our room. Outside lights by side entrance do not work which makes that entrance pitch black and hard to find at night. Swimming pool water was dark green, of course it was not summer time but it should have been treated and maintained. It was the best choice in places to stay in the area so despite those issues, we’d stay again, probably try another room?

They were on the walls, ceiling, curtains, bedding, furniture, headboard, nightstand, lamps, bathroom counter, pillows, floor… No matter what we did, we just kept finding them everywhere. We got in bed and they were in the covers and were crawling on us in our sleep. Besides the beetles, it was a wonderful place to stay.

Brenda (8/5): Lovely spot in a rural countryside setting - If you are looking for a quiet getaway surrounded by nature, this is your kind of place. Friendly and helpful staff. Two story but no elevator and stairs were a little steep so pack light or build up your muscles. I do wish they had better lighting. Parking lot was really dark and the front door was locked when I returned on a Friday night so had to use the side entrance where there was no light except what was from the pool area and that wasn’t much. Overall I had a lovely stay and highly recommend it. This was my second stay with them. A very secluded spot, in rural countryside so always when driving keep a lookout for wildlife. You may spot deer, rabbits and even bears.

Lisa (2/5): - This property is nice, however, the people are not so friendly. The key cards kept demagnetizing, so we kept being locked out of our room. That was frustrating with no one on site after hours, we got locked out at 5 a.m, yesterday morning in the freezing cold. Thank God, we had the car key because we were trying to load the car and leave. The emergency number doesn’t have no one answering it because we called it about an hour straight. The worst experience, never again.

Kathleen Diane (4/5): - I needed this property to be a place that I could stay frequently for work in this area. There are not many options in this part of Louisiana. The place seems perfect from the photos and location. I did not have any staff interaction because of the time of night I arrived. The property is nice and the common areas were fine but the room was filthy and the mattresses are terrible! I am not sure when it was last cleaned. The sheets were dirty and smelled like mens cologne. The carpet was covered in grass and it was clear that counters and the bathroom had not been wiped down. I was so disappointed. This is a unique property in a great spot but it was disgusting. I am so disappointed. I really had high hopes that for this property.

Brian S (10/5): - Quiet and serene. Bistro next door was great. Food and service were both excellent. Staff at lodge was outstanding. Felt like family when we arrived. Wonderful accommodations that were relaxing and comfy. If ever in the area we will def stay again!
HENRY (4/5): - This facility is advertised as a "bed and breakfast" lodge. It is neither. Cheap construction standard motel, not a lodge. No bed and breakfast atmosphere here. They give you a bistro breakfast voucher for the golf course down the street. No coffee cups in the room for the tiny do it yourself coffee maker. No receptionist at the counter or coffee made up front if you're up early. If you walk outside early in the morning the door shuts and locks behind you. Room key won't open it. Hopefully you have a roommate on the first floor and can knock on their window to beg to get back in. Trillions of flying insects swarming outside the front door with no bug zapper lights apparent anywhere. I suggest you stay at a normal motel in town and save 50 bucks.
Candace (6/5): - The property is located on a beautiful golf course. The scenery is very peaceful. The wooden bridge made me nervous due to the worn state. Drive carefully! Check in was very simple, room was ready when we arrived. The downfall came with the bathroom. The toilet looked like some one urinated on it and you could tell the bathroom hadn't been mopped. When the toilet flushed with the shower on it made the most horrendous noise. The only toiletries made readily available were, shampoo, conditioner and lotion. No soap to even wash your hands after the bathroom. The room itself was nice; mini fridge, tv, 2 chairs and a king sized bed. Downfall again, no iron or ironing board. Thankfully there was a family dollar/ dollar tree not to far to purchase items.

The pool wasnt ready for the summer due to state park rules that is the only negative thing i have to say...due to our reason for staying was to swim with the kids. We enjoyed supper next door at champions bistro. Altogether our stay was excellent!!
Barbara (8/5): One ply - Black Bear is great. My only criticism is they would they please upgrade their toilet tissue! It was awful. I hope you realize that if you provide one ply or very thin product, people use twice as much!!!
candice (10/5): Home away from home - The stay was amazing. The staff was awesome and very inviting. I was able to communicate daily with the front desk. The beds were amazing. Made me feel as though I was at home. Room was just the right size. I will be staying here again.

Kristi (8/5): - The boutique property is well kept and in a beautiful natural area on a golf course but isolated. Check-in was quick and easy and staff was friendly and helpful. My only issues are that there’s no overnight staff or security on site and I happened to be the ONLY guest at the hotel that night -a little disconcerting for a woman traveling alone.Also, I ran out of hot water in the middle of my shower ( if I’m the only person in the hotel, how do I run out of hot water in just a few minutes?) otherwise, I enjoyed my stay, breakfast was plentiful and delicious. I would definitely recommend and would stay here again (just bring my husband next time;-)

Cynthia (10/5): Perfect for Family Reunion - Gorgeous golf course views in a country setting at this State Park. We were one of 10 couples who booked rooms to attend a family memorial. Ample space to hang out and talk with cousins, older family, etc. Breakfast provided at restaurant next door, which had fantastic cuisine. Dinner reservations recommended if you’re there on a weekend. Hotel staff incredibly friendly.
STACY (10/5): The Surprise at the Lodge! - Nice place... The only thing I would recommend is the fact that the OUTER style of the building, definitely didn't fit the rooms. Outside makes you think of a "BLACK BEAR Hunting lodge." Inside the rooms and hallways, makes you think and feel like a standard hotel room. Nothing lodgy about the room I stayed in. They were super nice and the food at the bistro was superb! Would highly recommend staying there. If you do, go down to Delhi and eat at Hotwings Heaven! They have other stuff too, but the wings are lip smacking good! I would give a 10/10 if they wouldn't have fooled me about the lodge/hotel room thingy... lol I will stay again. I give them a 9.5/10 because of the room.. BED was super great!!!

Don’t know if it was just our unit (107) or all of them. The owner needs to spend a night there to hear how bad the bed squeaks! Breakfast was great the next morning!
