Guest Reviews
- Tim (4/5): Beautiful setting, but several problems—some avoidable—made our stay disappointing overall. - Positives
The location is undeniably scenic, right at the top of the town near the castle.
The owner prepared a light early breakfast for us before our planned Mount Etna hike, which we appreciated.
The interior has some charming antique furniture and clearly personal touches. We were very excited to stay here after seeing the excellent reviews, but our overall experience unfortunately didn’t live up to expectations. I want to be fair, so here are the main issues future guests should know:
1. Very difficult access:
I knew the town was hilltop, but driving to and from the property was far harder than expected. Not the owner’s fault, but it made day trips tiring, even with a small car.
2. Problems with the recommended Etna tour:
The host strongly recommended a specific tour operator, so we booked in advance. The experience was awful—overbooking, disorganization, standing in the cold for 1.5 hours, and being told we could either get a cash refund or stand in the vehicle for the entire ride. We didn’t feel safe and turned back. While the owner can’t control a third party, the recommendation mattered. She did refund our last night, which we appreciated, though the interaction felt tense, as if it was primarily to avoid a bad review.
3. The “deluxe suite” balcony is shared:
This is not clearly advertised. Another couple unexpectedly appeared right outside our bedroom door on the balcony—none of us knew it was shared. This should be stated upfront as it affects privacy and value.
4. Feeling monitored and restricted:
We were told not to drink red wine in the room, to be careful around a family heirloom dresser, and the terrace was closed off every evening, which prevented us from using it. The host also frequently called out to us whenever we went up or down the stairs. I know this was meant kindly, but it felt intrusive and made it hard to relax.
- Maksim (10/5): - We are very happy that we chose this villa for our vacation and for getting to know Sicily — luck was truly on our side. Everything was excellent.
The villa is stylish, cozy, and beautiful, and we slept incredibly well. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious, and we also had the chance to have dinner at the villa — it was wonderful.
Denis, the host, is an amazing woman who helped us with everything and did her best to make our stay perfect.
We will definitely come back here again. Nothing
- Guest (10/5): I strongly recommend La Dimora del Castelluccio for a short or long stay. - Denise is an extremely charming hostess. She welcomed us into her very tastefully designed home speaking 3 different languages. Denise is warm and engaging offering recommendations to discover the lovely town of Castiglione di Sicilia. The bedrooms are lovely and quiet and Denise serves a delicious and filling breakfast. I would advise following up with Denise prior to arrival for directions. She contacted us and I overlooked the msg. she sent to facilitate driving instructions.
- Robert (10/5): Special. - Great view of Etna. Denise is a lovely host. Our room was lovely with a little Juliet balcony overlooking the terrace. The accommodation is beautiful and is right in the middle of the town. Really close to restaurants. The town is a peaceful hilltop town with lovely restaurants.
- Christine (10/5): Stunning, stunning, stunning! - Beautiful location, gorgeous house, tranquil, luxurious, wonderful breakfast, very friendly hosts Nothing
- Rudolf (10/5): -
- Maria (10/5): What a gem! - 1. Owner Denise is a glamorous former actress with bags of confidence and style.
2. Her home is beautifully designed and decorated with no expense spared.
3. I had the large room with the mesmerising view of Mt Etna and the valley. It was heavenly to sit and look out of the windows at the ever-changing panorama - snow capped one day, battered by a raging storm another day and even a full rainbow and glorious sunshine on our final day.
4. The bed is one of the best I've ever slept in.
5. Denise takes great pride in her breakfast and with good reason. It varied every day and included such treats as fresh fruit, yoghurt, fresh ricotta, croissants, a home-made apricot torte, or orange cake, and a hot item (a gorgeous omelette one morning and potato cakes the next).
6. The village itself is delightful. Very untouristy but a gem.
7. The house is spotlessly clean. You could eat off the floors (although please don't because Denise doesn't allow food to be eaten in the bedrooms due to the beautiful, but porous, limestone floor tiles). 1. The drive-in is hair-raisingly narrow (this is a medieval hill town after all with roads designed for donkeys, not cars!!) so make sure that you phone Denise before you arrive so that she can meet you in the main square and guide you in. Don't follow Google maps or Waze instructions as they're horribly wrong!
2. We wasted a day going to Taormina - the White Lotus TV show has ruined it. It was swarming with tourists and we hated it. We wished we'd spent the day in beautiful Castiglione di Sicilia instead!
3. Leaving was super hard!!
- Claas (10/5): Einfach wunderbar!
- Jennifer (10/5): I can't recommend this enough - Denise is the most amazing hostess and her hotel is probably the most beautiful and unique place we have ever stayed in. Not one thing, it was perfect
- michael (10/5): Our favorite stay in Sicily! - Denise was wonderful and made us so comfortable in her home. It’s a little tricky driving to the dramatic hilltop location but that’s part of the adventure
- Mason-Jocksch (10/5): Best B&B on our Sicilian journey, and don't expect anything better - A more relaxing delightful B&B you will never find better. Welcoming host that wants to help you in any way that she can, and is lovely to just chat with!
- Christian (10/5): Toller Ausblick in ruhiger Lage. - Sehr gutes Frühstück mit episch gutem Ricotta. Tolle Aussicht von der Frühstücksterrasse. Sehr freundliche Gastgeberin. Ruhige Lage. Kleines Auto empfohlen.
- Suzanne (10/5): We very much enjoyed staying at La Dimora del Castelluccio! - La Dimora del Castelluccio is a one of a kind location: the amazing view on the Etna, the quiet and beautiful renovated room, the delicious breakfast and the excellent care of the owner Denise. Here we found what the Italian mean by ‘dolce far niente’.
- Erik (10/5): -
Snídaně nápadité s místními super exklusivními a autentickými surovinami.
Terasa.
Parkovani.
- Madeline (10/5): Everything about staying at Castelluccio was exceptional. If you want a charming and authentic Sicilian experience look - Denise, the host made us feel like family and was the best part of our stay. She is kind, hospitable and thoughtful. She assisted us with making reservations at restaurants and vineyards. Exceptional views and exceptional hospitality! We were so sad to leave.
- Pernille (10/5): Loved it! - The view 🤩
Really nice host, authentic, good aircondition in warm Italian summer weather and great breakfast.
- Karen (10/5): An exceptional home with a kind and friendly host! Worth every moment! - The home is exquisite! Meticulously clean and presented in the most tasteful way. The host and her team were kind and thoughtful and welcomed us into the home. The breakfasts each day were plentiful and fresh with a mix of fruit, fresh ricotta and jams, bakery items and juice each day. We were treated to a freshly made ricotta cake still warm from the oven. The room was large and airy and the views from the terrace were exceptional! What a beautiful stay and location - with views from every window. We enjoyed walking around the many lanes of the town and trying the different restaurants and cafes. We enjoyed La dispensary (recommended and booked for us by our host) and Belevedere, as well as coffee and gelato at Cafe NaTavoli down the road from the tabacco bar. There was nothing we didn’t like! We highly recommend it.
- Lisa (10/5): We enjoyed an unforgettable stay in a charming Sicilian medieval town, where cobblestone streets led us to stunning acco - What an amazing property, host and staff! Denise was so communicative and friendly. We had such a beautiful suite and the views were incredible. As all of the other reviews mentioned the breakfast is absolutely incredible. We were able to enjoy the picturesque town and easily access Mt Etna and local wineries. We hope to be able to visit again!
- Yusuf (10/5): Exceptional - I can’t say enough good things about this place! Host Denise, along with Martha and Francesca, truly made our stay special. Every morning, we were treated to a wonderful breakfast, which was such a lovely touch. The views are absolutely breathtaking—one of the best in the entire region! The peaceful atmosphere and comfortable bed made it feel like a home away from home. The A/C worked perfectly, and it was so thoughtful that our room was organized daily, even when we were out and about. I’m already looking forward to returning with a larger group; this place has truly captured my heart! If you are okay with a short daily drive, you can't find a better place than this.
- Jake (9/5): Superb -
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Guy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Randall (10/5): Beautiful suites with wonderful views over this perfect Sicilian village and a gracious host. - A very beautiful property located at the top of Castiglione di Sicilia next to an ancient church with amazing view and terraces. The owner Denise is a gracious woman of extremely high character who will make your visit a very special one. She has restored this very old villa with great architectural detail and has furnished it with beautiful art pieces. There are a number of stone steps outside but these are wide and safe, and you should not let this deter you from staying here. I am 77 and had no problem. Wonderful breakfast served on the terrace. Thinking of visiting Taormina? Come and stay in this beautiful village and this wonderful villa instead! We enjoyed ourselves more in Castiglione di Sicilia than in Taormina. The village is much more relaxed and there is still plenty to do in the area with many great day trips available. Everything at La Dimora del Castelluccio exceeded our expectations. The view of Etna from the terrace is fantastic!
- Kate (10/5): Elegant and high quality accommodation with Etna views! - Elegant accommodation in an amazing house nestled right next to the castle rock! Breakfast at the terrace with Etna view as well as the fully equipped room with high quality materials are just a couple of the many highlights of our stay! The host and owner was very attentive, discreet and extremely helpful. Highly recommended to explore the Etna area and the charming village. Definitely a stay to remember!
- Jan (10/5): Luxury and personal experience with great views on the Etna -
- John (10/5): This was a lovely bed and breakfast with a warm and gracious hostess, a perfect ending to our trip! - We had a wonderful stay here. Donna Denise was the most gracious hostess and we felt very welcomed into her lovely home. Our room was huge, beautifully furnished and included a lovely sitting area, and a large, very updated spa-like bathroom. The views from our balcony were amazing...the town below us and Mt. Etna. Breakfasts were filling with plenty of variety and beautifully presented. Denise even prepared a delicious dinner for us one evening. We loved our stay here and would highly recommend it. Really, everything was perfect, but just a word of warning... there are about 50 steps up to reach the home. It didn't bother us, but if you have difficulty with stairs, it could be a problem.
- Bernd (10/5): Fantastico! - My husband & I had the pleasure of staying in La Dimora for 4 nights. The B&B offers outstanding views, it is beautifully decorated, the staff goes above board to make you feel at home. Breakfast each day offered something new, fresh with local products. Dona Denise is an excellent hostess, and 'behind the scenes' Francesca & Marta only added to our pleasure & comfort!
- Joanna (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (10/5): Great stay in a beautiful home with great views and great host! - Staying at Denise's property you feel like you are with your long-lost Sicilian family. Denise couldn't do enough for you and even drove us to a restaurant due to bad weather in the area causing most of the local restaurants to close. Her home is stunning and the views of Mt. Etna are amazing. Driving up to her home on top of the mountain is initially challenging but you get used to it after a few times. Also, the steps up to the home provide a much-needed workout but if only staying for a few nights limit your baggage. Also, the daily breakfast is great and changes based on what is fresh in the market that day. Nothing!
- Anne (10/5): Very personal, attentive and courteous service. Amazing view of the Etna. - Very personal, attentive and courteous service. Delicious breakfast. Amazing view of the Etna.
- Sandy (10/5): Everything about our stay was fabulous. - Beautiful, clean property with an amazing and helpful host, wonderful deck with a stunning view of Etna, fabulous breakfast and very comfortable accommodations.
- Leslie (10/5): Our favorite place! - This was our favorite stop of a three week trip. Donna Denise was the epitome of Sicilian hospitality. The breakfasts on the terrace were fabulous... and her coffee! Nothing was too much for her...She gave us suggestions on what to do and where to go. You will not find a better host anywhere in Sicily!
- Emma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (10/5): A beautiful, stylish house with a beautiful, stylish host - Fantastic location perched above Castiglione di Sicilia.
Great views of Etna from our room, the balcony and the terrace.
Denise has a lot of style and is the perfect host:
- great comms before our arrival
- providing a late-night guide due to our delayed arrival
- lovely vegan and vegetarian breakfast options (and lots of it!)
- advice re days out and excursions
- contacting local guides on our behalf.
Very highly recommended. The only disappointment was that Etna herself was not more active!
- Marie (10/5): Absolutely beautiful accommodation! - The view was outstanding. The breakfast was the best we had in Italy. Each day there was a different selection of meats and fresh fruits beautifully presented and gorgeous fresh ricotta and honey. We didn't know where to start. Our double room was beautiful. The decor in general was very tasteful. Also spotlessly clean! Both rooms have use of the large terrace where breakfast was served and evening drinks. Denise was a brilliant, attentive host.
- Zydrunas (10/5): Exceptional - We were lost in the city (didn't read Denisa recommendation), but Denisa unexpectedly found us. From the first our meet we were surrounded by her warmth, care. She recomended the best places to visit, to eat. He even offered an umbrella from the rain. The breakfest with the view to Etna were perfect. The room was very comfotrtable and hudge. The biggest thanks to Denisa.
- Adam (10/5): Deserves 11 out of 10 - Everything about this place is perfect. Denise is a super host and goes to so much effort to make you feel welcome. The house is beautiful and immaculately clean. Our room was spacious and the bed so comfortable. The ladies who help Vanessa and Alessandra left our room spotless every day. Breakfast was varied, local and delicious. The view over etna from the terrace as the sun sets is something I will never forget. Thank you! Nothing!
- Nikolett (10/5): Best stay next to Etna - Absolutely loved our stay at Denise. She was super welcoming and attentive, the view from her place is incredible and we could watch over to the Etna while having breakfast. She had good recommendations as well which made our stay even better. Thanks Denise!!
- Denys (10/5): Exceptional - Everything is superb. Thanks Denise for all her attention to details and recommendations. The place is magnificent, with breathtaking views over the town and surrounding including mount Etna. Stylish and beautifully designed suite.
Amazing -
- Ivy (10/5): Exotic historical location - Extraordinary location. View from breakfast patio is amazing. Nestled among ancient buildings. Very cool. Nothing
- Elliot (10/5): Peace, quiet and the best hospitality! - Denise is the most incredible host. Nothing was ever too much and she cared for us from the very start up to our departure. It was like staying with a relative! Little touches such as organising tables for us for dinner or lunch at local restaurants, sharing a bottle of prosecco with us at dusk, advising us on the best lido away from the tourists (Sun Kisses in Letojanni). Nothing was ever too much trouble. The property itself is stunning inside and out, perched right at the top of the historical and traditional part of this quaint village. If you want peace and quiet but want to be within easy reach of the coast and etna, this is absolutely perfect.
- Steven (10/5): This is the place to be if want to visit Etna or Taormina or just to get a little pampering and rest. - This is an incredibly chic property, everything is carefully curated by the amazingly chic hostess, Dame Denise who went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. The attention to details is unmistakable, it gives you the feeling of a luxury hotel.
We had breakfast on the terrace which overlooks Mt Etna. The spread is generous consists of local fruits and ham and ricotta (to die for!!!).
The location itself is well situated, charming and beautiful, the highest point of the village. It’s a vibrant and lively vibe in the evening, with restaurants and bars serving local delicacies.
- Samantha (10/5): A very special B&B! - A fabulous hostess welcoming us into a very special property, with stunning views of Etna to the rear and the most incredible far-reaching views to the front. Add to that the superb breakfasts, luxury furnishings in our suite with a wonderfully comfortable bed, high-quality towels and bedding, a range of excellent places to eat in the local town, and lots of good places to visit in the area. Thank you, Denise and your assistants!
- Rytta (10/5): The village is so romantic and quiet, the place was clean and tidy. I enjoyed staying with Donna denise the sweet lady!❤ - Donna denise is a sweet, clean and tidy lady, super nice and helpful. Everything about the stay was beautiful!
- Therese (10/5): We highly recommend this accommodation. - Decorated beautifully, everything was top quality. The views were spectacular looking over mount Etna and the countryside. The host Denise was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was wonderful. Nothing.
- Neil (10/5): Wonderul experience, thank you Denise, most highly recommended. - Beautiful host, beautiful property (we had the big room, air conditioned lounge/bedroom, bath, two sinks, separate shower with rainhead, even a bidet!) and a dressing room. Access to two balconies, one has washing line so very useful to dry your towels etc and access to amazing roof terrace with spectacular views of Etna and surrounding countryside where breakfasts are served (at a time to suit you) that could feed an army! Also something different every day - lots of different fruits, parma ham, smoked salmon, guacamole (home made), eggs, croissants, toast, cheeses, yoghurts, juices, choice of teas/coffees, the list goes on.... £220 a night, cheaper than a London Hotel and worth every single penny. Lovely medieval town with great access to Etna, beaches (avoid Taormina, check out the Lidos in Fiumefreddo if you want peace and quiet and sunloungers and umbrella at decent prices. Stony beaches though so buy the special swim shoes), Alcantara Gorge and many other attractions. You will need a hire car but driving in Italy/Sicily is an experience! Denise's (the owner) mantra is mia casa e tua casa and she will really look after you and offer you quite an experience ( she was in the movies, one with De Niro, and sports lovely silk dressing gowns! My partner Maria observed that the only thing she was missing was a cigarette, with holder of course!). As a special tip, ignore your satnav when it tells you to turn right at steps leading up to a church, follow the road all around the old castle until you see house numbers 30 and 32. The steps to the left of those houses lead up to La Dimora. My partner Maria would have liked tea/coffee making facilities in the room but she's Irish and wants a cup of tea every 10 minutes. As an Englishman, I had no complaints whatsoever.
- Dudley (10/5): Exceptional - Having breakfast with views of Etna and being welcomed so generously.
- Vivian (9/5): Perfect room, perfect view, perfect breakfast and a charming, helpful host! - The views, the cosy room, good taste for art and decoration. Nothing
- Melanie (10/5): Charming stay in a quaint Sicilian village - I was absolutely blown away by this gem of a bed and breakfast hosted by Denise. My husband and I used this property as a base to visit Mount Etna and Taormina, both of which are touristy spots in Sicily. Coming back to this B&B every night was like returning to a peace sanctuary after a busy and exhausting day. The rooms were charming and the views were even better than the pictures. Every morning we were greeted by stunning views of Etna from the terrace. Furthermore, I was excited each morning to wake up as Denise prepares a splendid Italian spread for breakfast, which changes everyday. A big thank you also to the two lovely ladies who helped make up our rooms or attend to us. All in all, a 10/10 experience and I recommend Denise‘s beautiful space to anyone who wants to explore Sicily but stay off the beaten track.
The only thing you should consider is that getting to and from the property requires a car and that the roads are very narrow leading to it. However, if you drive slow and get a small car you will be fine! Nothing, everything was lovely!
- Susan (10/5): Beautiful gem, nestled on hilltop among ancient castle and ruins. - We loved everything! View overlooks the medieval town with Mount Etna to one side, and the remains of an ancient Greek watchtower a stone’s throw to the other. Denise is such a lovely and gracious host; she quickly helped arrange everything, from a tour of Mount Etna to a late-night restaurant visit. The home was beautiful and impeccably clean. It was updated with modern, high-end conveniences without losing any of its old world charm. Room was spacious and charming, and the bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. Stunning views from bedroom and breakfast terraces. Hands-down, the best breakfasts we have had on our trips— farm-fresh organic fruits, cheeses, and meats, and homemade baked goods to die for! We loved everything.
- Adrian (10/5): Wonderful. - Winding mountain roads, lead to the authentic medieval village of Castiglione di Sicilia. We were met in the village by Denise (in spite of our very late arrival), and she immediately escorted us, and welcomed us into her beautiful stylish house. Denise offers great hospitality, she is enthusiastic, knowledgable and has super energy.... The bedroom (& specifically the bed) are very comfortable, the bathroom pampering, and each morning a delicious fresh breakfast was prepared on a gorgeous terrace, with a distant view of Mt Etna. If the weather was too breezy - we had breakfast in her lovely private dining room. Denise's home is ideal as a quiet base, far away from mass tourism, and is excellently positioned for visiting Etna, doing wine -tastings, or driving down to visit the busy touristic Taormina for the day. This charming B&B was a great kick-off to our Sicilian holiday. And is great value for money. (Penny & Adrian - from Amsterdam) Nothing. All was fabulous...... Just be aware there are quite some steps before you arrive at the front door ... (tricky with a heavy suitcase) but otherwise fine. And a car is essential.
- Alexandra (10/5): A true Sicilian vacation! We loved it. - It‘s a beautifully renovated old house in the old Center of Castiglione with great views from the top of the town on the surrounding landscape, the castle, church and of course Etna. We very much enjoyed the daily breakfast on the terrace with delicious local and organic food and even home-baked cake when available. Donna Denise is the perfect host: attentive, kind and very helpful with advice for restaurants and sight seeing for a proper Sicilian experience. Thank you for having us!
- Greg (10/5): 10/10 - if you are lucky enough to come across this listing you are crazy to not stay here. - Perched high atop the village of Castiglione di Sicilia, nestled between an old baroque church and ancient Greek fortress is this absolute gem of a place. Beautifully renovated, tastefully designed, this is no fly by night bed and breakfast. Forget enjoying our 3 night stay here....I wish I lived here. Denise is an incredibly gracious, well traveled, articulate, and interesting host. She was extremely helpful with local recommendations and also offered to make reservations for us anywhere we were interested in going. It's not a matter of if we will go back, only when. There was nothing that could have been better. Beautiful breakfasts on the balcony overlooking the village and Mt Etna. Listening to the town waking up and feeling the old world charm. Super special place!
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful home, fantastic breakfast. Denise the owner and her staff are lovely, very helpful and informative. Views of Mt Etna and surrounding countryside are amazing. There are 3 restaurants in the village, all good and within walking distance. Be warned it's a good half hour drive up the mountain from the motorway. You will be doing this trip every time you want to drive anywhere. You will need a little car for the tiny roads in the village and don't listen to your sat nav as it sends you the wrong way!
- Lingzhu (10/5): Exceptional - This is the private house of Denise. She took 3 years carefully and tastefully renovated and decorated the house - with a subtle balance of minimalist style and Sicilian touch.
Her private space and 2 guest-rooms are also well separated - no disturbance to each other. The guests have access to a wonderful terrace facing Mountain Etna. We enjoyed sitting on the terrace, bathing the gentle April sun of Sicily, reading or simply gazing at Etna.
Castiglione is not a hot tourist spot. If you look for something quiet and peaceful, this B&B is the right choice.
We stayed 3 nights. Every morning we got a well-prepared breakfast, with everyday different local products: sweet watermelon, local ham with honeymelon, salami, croissants, fresh-preseed orange juice.
The owner Denise was also discreet. Every time we needed her (asking a question or borrowing plates), she was always there. Meanwhile, we also felt we have enough space to be with ourselves and have our privacy.
The two girls, who made the room cleaning, were very professional. The room is spotless clean - every day. We are positively impressed.
Thanks Denise that you took good care of us. None
- Laura (10/5): Beautiful views, tasty breakfast and charming way to stay un Sicily. - Great location in small medieval town in Sicily with fantastic views from room windows and breakfast terrace. Fresh and tasty breakfast. Wonderful hostess. Nothing
- Anna (10/5): You will not be disappointed if you choose to stay in this very special place. - Beautiful interior and fabulous views in many directions. Denise was very welcoming with good tips for local restaurants and a trek up Mount Etna. The breakfast was delicious, served on the terrace with fabulous views of Mount Etna. Nothing!
- Lois (10/5): A perfect, romantic stay if you want to experience the real Sicily perched on top of medieval town nestled among Sicilys - Newly renovated and elegantly furnished home at the top of Castiglione di Sicilia. Incredible views of Mt Etna and beautiful indoors and outdoor areas. Nothing.
- Joerie (10/5): Exceptional - Just everything is awesome: at the top of the hill, awesome view of all surroundings, Etna, churches, the town, ... from the room and from the terrace. Breakfast was delicious, rooms and building recently renovated to high luxury standards.
- Caroline (10/5): Castiglione di Sicilia is a beautiful place to visit and this was the perfect place to stay. - We loved our stay at Dimora di Castiglione.
Our host, Denise was charming, friendly and generous, from the moment she met us in town, showed us a great lunch spot, and then to the hotel.
The hotel was beautifully designed. The room was spacious and very comfortable, opening onto a balcony and large terrace, no detail had been overlooked.
The breakfasts were an amazing selections of local fresh produce. We also enjoyed a lovely bottle of local Etna wine and local cheese on the terrace with the other guests.
The location is spectacular! The views to die for- sunsets over Mt Etna.
We would recommend a visit.
10/10
- Verdes1957 (10/5): We had a wonderful and unforgettable experience with location and people. - Denise our host was fabulous, with attention to detail, advice and care to help us in any aspect even guiding us in the right direction when we needed it. The breakfasts were a feast of fresh local produce. Help with getting in and out was great. And coordinating bookings at local vineyards was most appreciated along with her suggestions for restaurants.
We would highly recommend a stay at Dimora Nothing, it was great and refer to above.
- Alice (10/5): Such a memorable stay. Thank you! - What an amazing place to stay in every way! Great host (Denise, thank you for your excellent hospitality!), amazingly unique place (at the very top of the village!), fantastic breakfast, the most comfortable bed and spacious room ever, in a very special village with an exceptional view of Mount Etna to wake up to. Nothing
- Janine (10/5): Short sentence? Impossible!! I could write a novel about our visit with Donna Denise it was magical - Breakfast is a memory for me of the best in both presentation, authenticity, and dedication to local culture ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!!!
- Keith (10/5): High a uality accommodation in beautiful hilltop town - Warm welcome with a cold beer and nice chat with Denise. Breakfast on the terrace was lovely. Bedroom and bathroom were a good size with nice views. Very nice soaps and shower gel were provided. Towels were excellent. The room is advertised as non smoking but, unfortunately, someone was smoking in/near the shared rooms. The cigarette smoke would invade the bedroom and separate dressing room if the doors were accidentally left open. Such a shame as it was a lovely place to stay.
- Eric (10/5): One of our most memorable and enjoyable stays in Sicily - This is one of the most beautiful B&Bs we have ever stayed in. Amazing views from every window, tasteful design details, and sumptuous breakfasts overlooking Mt. Etna. Denise is a warm and gracious host. She truly wants every one of her guests to get the most out of their visit to her property and Castiglione. My wife and I were very sad to leave. Nothing
- Amy (10/5): Our stay far exceeded anything we could have imagined, or expected. - La Dimora del Castelluccio is an exceptionally beautiful home (at the top of the world) with awe inspiring views of Mt Etna, green valleys, other medieval hilltop towns hosted by a most generous, fun & engaging host. there is nothing to dislike!
- Terri (10/5): Exceptional - The whole house was gorgeous. Denise, the owner, went out of her way to make us feel welcome. The breakfast was more than we expected - fresh and plentiful! The location was beautiful even though the road was quite narrow to get there! Rent a small car! Did I mention breakfast on the terrace with a view of Mt Etna? The only thing missing was a place to put our luggage in our room - off the floor.
- Lauren (10/5): Exceptional - A Beautifully appointed room in a great location. A very helpful and caring host. On our request Denise helped give suggestions for day trips, dinners and local places to visit. There was an amazing breakfast served daily by Denise and her team.
We were originally looking to stay in a larger town but are so happy we decided to stay here! Wonderful views of Etna from the balcony and a stunning view of the town and local scenery as well.
We cant rate this property any higher, we loved our stay.
We felt like we were in 'real Sicily' here. Thanks Denise for a beautiful and memorable stay! Nil
- Tom (10/5): The most amazing views and the house was fantastic. Denise was very accommodating and helpful, made sure we didn’t get l - Beautiful setting and accommodation
- Jason (10/5): A wonderful stay - What a wonderful stay at Dimora Castellucio! The room is beautiful and very comfortable in an amazingly unique property. The views of Etna and the town from the balcony are stunning. It’s easy to explore the lovely medieval town and to do wine tastings at the great local vineyards. Denise, our host, was very welcoming and we loved meeting her! Highly recommend a stay here and we are excited to come back again some day!
- Antain (10/5): Arrived here on Friday. Denise (the owner of by this house) picked us up. Patiently she explained how this accommodation - Hospitality
Cleanliness
Location All was good and perfect!!
- Lucinda (10/5): Exceptional - The breakfast was incredible, all the food was so fresh and the view is absolutely incredible! Such kind hosting which really makes you feel at home. If you are to stay anywhere to see Mount Etna this is the place! Quite tricky to get to by car, but worth it!
- Valentyna (10/5): The best ever place to stay on Sicily that will end up to your favourite places on Earth - I heard that you haven’t been on Sicily if you haven’t been on Etna, the heart of Sicily! And I want to add - you haven’t seen Etna if you haven’t been in Castiglione at La Dimore del Castelluccio! If you’re on Sicily, make sure to visit charming Castiglione with its spectacular view on Etna, and stay at La Dimore del Castelluccio at the best ever host, Denise! Here you can have a luxury place to stay and enjoy tranquillity of the location, have a fantastic breakfast with an unforgettable view on breathing Etna and feel real Sicilian hospitality at Denise’s place. In addition Denise is an incredible host! I have travelled a lot, but it’s seldom I meet so amazing hosts as Denise! Firstly, before arrival to Sicily we got cancelled our flight because of fire at the airport…I contacted Denise and she helped us immediately with NO FEE cancellation and understood our situation (while several other properties we booked with high rate denied to wave cancellation fee). Hopefully we find an alternative ticket to Sicily and came here.
Denise have done an amazing job to organise everything at La Dimora del Castelluccio - from arrival to departure we felt like at luxury hotel and home at the same time! Denise gave us a detailed info regarding how to find her property since Google maps doesn’t give a right route (so stick to the plan you receive from Denise) and on the narrow street of Castiglione is easy to lose a track. But Denise picked us up in the center of Castiglione and guided us by car to the right route. Denise responded fast and kindly to all our questions priory check in and during our stay and was always incredibly friendly and helpful! Everything at La Dimora del Castelluccio is made with love, taste, with attention to details, of highest quality, spotless clean and well organised!
- Marco (9/5): A superb house that feels like a modern castle. Very quiet and welcoming, we enjoyed our stay and discovered the region - Exceptional house with luxury facilities. With only two rooms in the house, there is plenty of space for the (few guests). The bed is very comfortable and with air conditioning. The bathroom is also very big and with superb furnitures. There is a lot attention for details.
The breakfast is very generous and custom made with fresh products of the region including pastries, jam, fresh fruits, freshly brewed coffee and ricotta. Staff was really nice and welcoming. They helped with everything. The room service is better than in many hotels. The host Mrs. Denise is an entertaining and generous host. She will help you out with anything and make sure that you’ll feel at home. Although the location offers a breathtaking view and it is extremely quiet, the location is a little bit remote. A small price to pay for being in a castle on top of the hill.
- Hannah (9/5): Superb - Denise's home and hospitality were wonderful. It was all excellent, from the fresh breakfasts with locally sourced products, to restaurant recommendations and the most memorable view.
The town is very quiet and peaceful and we could never tire of the view from the terrace. A lush landscape crowned by Etna, with jackdaws chatting to each other ... Beautiful. Not much! Warning about the steps though - there are a lot.
Also, make sure you hire a small car.
- Csaba (10/5): Exceptional - I am absolutely sure that La Dimora del Castelluccio is the best place to stay when visiting Sicily. It has a great location on top of the small medieval town of Castiglione di Sicilia at the foot of Mount Etna. From its terrace you can enjoy a wonderful view of the volcano and the city, as well as the whole area around. The building on which the apartment is based has been renovated with brilliant taste and is equipped with everything the guest would need. But the most important thing is the gentle personality of Signora Denise. I can't imagine a kinder and more attentive host than her.
Thank you Denise for everything again!
We will come back!
- Eric (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing location with stunning view on the Etna from the terras on top of this medieval village
Abundant breakfast with local specialties
Denise is a fantastic host
- Claire (10/5): A BEAUTIFUL OASIS - La Dimora Del Castelluccio is an amazing place. It's a wonderful oasis perched high atop the mountains in the lovely village of Castiglione di Sicilia. The proprietress, Denise, is the most charming lady you will ever meet. It took her 3 years to restore this beautiful place to the highest standard. It's immaculate and beautifully designed. We spent 3 nights and didn't want to leave. We had a delicious breakfast every morning on the terrace outside our huge room where we were treated to the most magnificent views of Etna and the surrounding area. Denise will recommend good restaurants for you as well as connect you to a wonderful driver, if you need one. (See my other review for Dream Service with Carmelo Sava). Castelluccio is a great base for exploring the many excellent wineries in the area as well as Taormina, which is less than 1 hour drive. You do need a car or access to a driver. Note that there are many steps to climb up to reach the property, which could be a problem for those with mobility issues. Staying at Castelluccio will leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed -- a true oasis. We will definitely return! Thank you again, Denise, for your most wonderful hospitality.
- Sarah (10/5): A special place in a stunning location with a welcoming and generous hostess. - The location is amazing at the top of the ancient hill top town with views across the valley to Mount Etna. Breakfast on the terrace is very special, not just because the views are stunning but the breakfasts were so generous and each day different. Great coffee, each day a selection of fresh fruit ( we had the sweetest strawberries I have ever had ), brioche or croissant, breads, jams and cheeses. They were a feast and such a treat.
Denise, the hostess, is so welcoming and helpful. She really looks after you, gives suggestions, booked restaurants, even went to the bother of driving down to meet us at the bottom of the town to guide us to the house and show us where to park.
She is a very special and generous hostess.
Very comfortable beds too.
It felt like a special stay from start to finish even though we were unlucky with the weather.
- Hiep (10/5): It’s a place worth to get back to. Thanks! - It’ s an amazing place, beautiful big room in great style with a lovely terrace, great views, very welcoming atmophere. Delicious breakfast. The owner helped us with everything before we even asked. We truely got the feeling to be home in Castiglione! Everything was great!
- Emma (10/5): Exceptional - wow!!! this property is fantastic… a hidden gem.. it is a must stay.. the owner is lovely, nothing too much trouble, and such a comfortable accommodation with stunning views. Absolutely nothing.. can’t fault it.. best accommodation in Sicily.
- Jacqueline (10/5): Wonderful! - The location was spectacular. We had wonderful breakfasts on the terrace overlooking Etna. Our room was extremely comfortable and our hostess couldn’t have been more kind and attentive Nothing
- Claire (10/5): Excellent accommodation, stunning views of Mount Etna and the countryside, Superb host! - The property is beautifully furnished, with excellent facilities and has fantastic views of Mount Etna and surrounding countryside. Denise the host is superb and gave us a great welcome. She was kind, generous and attentive throughout our three day stay, ensuring that we had all that we needed. Denise bakes great cakes and her breakfasts are very generous which are served on the terrace with Mount Etna as a backdrop. We stayed in the larger suite with a very comfortable bed and large walk in shower, but whichever room you choose, you will not be disappointed.
From the accommodation in Castiglione di Sicilia - which is a charming, fairytale hilltop town - we did some great walks. Our favourite walk which we highly recommend was a 3 mile circular walk on the north side of Mount Etna away from the coaches and crowds on the South side. Our starting point was Citelli Mountain Refuge (Rifugio Citelli) a 40 minute drive from the house with free parking. (Google Rifugio Citelli - Grotta Serracozzo circular hike, or look on the ‘AllTrails’ app). The views from the ridge across the old lava flow are phenomenal and is one of the most breathtaking landscapes of the volcano. You can also access the Serracozzo cave (grotto) 45 minutes into the walk but will need torches and helmets if you wish to explore more than just the opening. The refuge sells hot drinks and cake and biscotti, very welcome after a half days hike.
We highly recommend this accommodation. We have continued our travels in Sicily, and Denise’s accommodation is by far the best we have come across, and Denise is by far the best host! If you travel to Sicily and don’t stay here, you are missing out on a real gem. There was nothing to dislike. Everything was superb.
- Paul (10/5): Amazing! - La Dimora Del Castellucio is a very special place. Perched up high in a lovely hilltop village, this accommodation is exquisite and luxurious. Our host Denise was so warm and charming and prepared an amazing breakfast each day. if the weather is good, breakfast is served on the terrace overlooking the majestic Mount Etna. Heaven!!!
- Robert (10/5): Go. You won't regret it. I promise. - La Dimora del Castelluccio is not a hotel - it is an experience like no other. Denise is so welcoming, interesting and helpful that she makes you feel completely relaxed in her beautifully designed stylish home like an old returning friend. We simply loved it and will return to stay again if in Sicily. There is so much to like - the stunning views of Etna from the terrace, the wonderful rooms, the different breakfast each day. Staying with Denise is a really special experience. We liked everything - there's nothing to dislike.
- Thomas (10/5): Amazing luxurious and stylish place in a renovated historical house with a fantastic view on Aetna! - Einfach unglaublich!
Simply amazing! This place was by far the best place we had in Sicily - highly recommended!
Positioned on the very top of the village mountain, next to the castle and a church, with a premium wide angle view above the whole historical village and on the Aetna!
The appartments are part of an historical house that the owner Denise renovated and equipped with love, in a really luxurious and very tasteful style, with antique and modern furniture combined, and real art pieces at the walls. All stylish in every detail, but still very cosy. Very comfortable beds, very nice bathroom.
Denise is an amazing host and charismatic woman; and we had very interesting conversations. Her kitchen (dinner needs to be arranged in advance) is fantastic and gave us an impression of the local Italian cuisine. There was actually nothing that could have been improved!
- Jennifer (9/5): Superb -
- Sarah (10/5): Perfection. - This was the highlight of our holiday. Denise is an amazing host and the house and our room were incredible. peaceful silence every night with amazing views. Every detail is thought of and Denise makes an amazing breakfast every morning which we looked forward to. We had bad weather two days but we spent time relaxing in Denise’s amazing home and she was kind enough to make us cappuccinos and homemade cake one day when it rained. Denise also booked us into amazing local restaurants every night Do not hesitate to stay here. We loved it and the town so much! We went to Taormina after and found ourselves missing this place. Grazie mille Denise! nothing
- Julian (10/5): I loved staying here, felt like I was part of Denise’s family and can’t wait to go back! - This is an ancient Sicilian town perched in a hill with very steep streets, so hire a small car! “Ancient” stops at the front door, though, because Denise has totally modernised the property with fully functioning bathrooms, heating and very comfortable beds. You look out on to the north face of Etna. The breakfasts are fabulous! You can find good food and wine at other spots in the town too.
- Alexander (10/5): A wonderful discovery in a unique location - In Sicily, we found a B&B so fine,
With a view of Etna that was simply divine,
The terrace was a dream, so peaceful and serene,
And Denise's hospitality was simply supreme!
Her unique breakfast, a feast for the senses,
Filled with flavors, colors, and scents so intense,
We left with a smile and a heart full of joy,
This B&B in Sicily, our new favorite envoy!
Denise, our host, was such a delight,
With style and elegance always polite,
A click so instant, a friendship so true,
Leaving the B&B was hard to do! That our stay was too short and we had to leave.
- Georgie (10/5): Exceptional - We had a fantastic stay - Denise was a charming host and made us feel very welcome. She treated us like family! On our first night she treated us to a bottle of Prosecco and we spent hours talking together. The property was stylish, clean and dramatically situated with wonderful views. Breakfast with local delicacies was very special. We would strongly recommend to anyone thinking of visiting the area!
- Erica (10/5): Highly recommend anyone to stay at Denise’s and explore the beauty of Sicilia! - We spent the last 3 nights of our honeymoon at the beginning of December at Denise’s. She has beautifully restored the property and brought all the comforts and touches to make it special. Our room had an amazing view of Etna and surrounding vineyards from the terrace and was very relaxing. Denise prepared for us a lovely breakfast each morning with organic and local items, 10/10. I wanted a location that was north a short drive to Taormina and Etna Nord, where we did a day hike on our own up into the snow! It was a bit hazy the days we were there but still beautiful. One thing to consider if you are not used to driving in small towns with very narrow streets- be sure to get a small rental car as it can be difficult to drive in and out of town each day and park. Otherwise, everything else was great.
- Nello (10/5): Exceptional - Denise is simple exceptional...makes you feel home. Was looking for tranquility and this location fully met expectations
