• Emma (9/5): Beautiful, convenient, comfortable - The location was beautiful. Our host drove us to the nearby slopes and collected us when we asked. He also helped us with equipment hire. We loved the onsen experience there at Log Cottage Epoch. The accommodation is a short walk to the town centre if you go the back way (which we only found out about a day or so before we left). I loved how the bathroom was the warmest room in the cottage - it made showering so much more pleasant after a day in the snow. Wish I'd known about the short-cut to town earlier in the stay.

• John (10/5): Magical - The location of the cottage is perfect, right next to the gondola that has a path to walk, about 5 minutes. Toshi, the host, is also incredible. What a guy. Was able to help us with everything we needed and always responsive on what’s app. Offered rides to bus station, train station, groceries and more. Can’t say more about how awesome he is, I want to start a business with him in some way, shape, or form in Hakuba. n/a
• Rapeeporn (10/5): Lovely cottage - We visited in Winter. The cabin that we stayed had 2 bedroom/2 bathrooms, kitchen, microwave, fridge and basic thing we need [we cooked our own dinner and breakfast] . Plenty of space in living room for 4-5 people, good floor heating and extra heater. Our bed are comfy and lot of room we are able to have 3 opened suitcase space in bedroom. Property not far from Happo one ski field and town, we have hired car lot of car parking spot. It's a timber cottage, noise from our neighbour heel strike walking up and down staircase can be irritating at night time, take some earplugs for sleeping.

• Blake (10/5): We’d absolutely stay here again and would highly recommend it. - Everything was extremely clean and tidy, and the kitchen had everything we needed. The beds were super comfy and the underfloor heating made the house so warm and cosy, especially after a long day on the slopes. The dry room was also a huge bonus. Toshi was a fantastic host — really friendly and helpful, and even offered to drop us into town which we really appreciated. And the private onsen was the highlight for us. It was such a treat to soak and relax after skiing.

Two showers/toilets/bathrooms! Be sure to borrow dvds (grab quite a few as the don’t all work!)

Our gear dried each night with the warm rooms and heated floors. The shuttle service often felt like we were being an inconvenience when asking for drop offs and pick ups by one of the staff.

• Jess (10/5): Welcoming and cosy traditional Japanese cottages - Log Cottage Epoch was a wonderful holiday for myself and two older teens. The cottage was homely and beds comfortable. The location is fairly central, quick 10-15min walk to most Happo area restaurants. Short stroll to Tokyu Hotel which is a main stop for most shuttles/taxi services. Toshi and his family looked after us so well, they were so kind and helpful, nothing seemed to be a trouble for them. They were very generous and accommodating. They offer great service by dropping us off to many places within Hakuba. We loved it and definitely recommend anyone to book here. Nothing to comment that we didn't like
• Scott (7/5): Good - Beds in Japanese style room were really comfortable. Cottage was nice and had good facilities as well as cooking. Good internet. Good staff. Location was ok but would be handy to have a shop closer as there's no where to get small items or even change for the washing machines late at night if you forget during the day. The hotel provides a shuttle service once a day for shopping which is good.

It had everything we needed, was comfortable and very clean, great size for our family of 4. Service was great. On site onsen was a highlight! More hooks to hang snow jackets and pants to dry would be helpful as a lot of gear with a family of 4.

• Robert (10/5): A great base for your Hakuba ski adventure. - This was a super great place to stay. A short 10 min walk to Happo-One, but a shuttle is available if you're travelling with kids and gear. We stayed in the stand-alone cabin with two families, and the place was spacious and well appointed. Really, everything was pretty spot on at this place so no complaints. If you're looking to go to a different hill, there are shuttles available nearby from a neighboring hotel about 5 minutes walk.
• Sara (10/5): Perfect Little Cottage in the Woods - Log Cottage Epoch was the perfect spot for our family of four. We stayed in Unit D and having two bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a comfortable living room made our week long stay so nice. Our hosts were helpful and gave us rides to and from the mountain, to dinner each night, and to the grocery store. We took advantage of the onsite onsen and loved that we could walk to the base of Happo-One in less than 10 minutes. We had grand plans to check out many of the Hakuba resorts but the proximity of Happo-One and the massive amount of snow we had during our stay made us less adventurous and we ended up skiing all four days at the same mountain. Travel to other resorts took a bit of trains/plane/automobiles action that we opted to skip. We utilized Yamoto's luggage delivery for our ski bags. Toshi helped us schedule a pickup of our bags at the end of our stay and our bags seamlessly met us at the Osaka airport four days later. Highly recommend! Favorite restaurants nearby: Hummingbird, Hakuba Taproom, Cloud Nine, Yamagami Syokudou, and Bernd's Keller. We also LOVED Champagne Bar & Lounge but it was farther and would require Taxi/Uber back. The grocery store was well stocked, have your phone ready to translate to make the process faster. Our unit had coffee when we arrived. Our unit also had a small room at the entry for our ski/boots/coats/gear. The heated floors on the first floor were lovely and our beds upstairs were SO comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay and would absolutely stay here again!
• Max (10/5): Beautiful - We honestly had the best stay here. A beautiful spot, lovely accommodation, you can walk to the lifts and very friendly hosts. As an aside, our 3 year old had an accident at an indoor playground nearby and Toshi and his wife went above and beyond to look after us and get us medical care for her and let us stay an extra night to make sure she was okay. Thank you very much! nothing :)

We had our own vehicle but our host Toshi-san is very happy to accommodate a trip to the Happo base or gondola or the supermarket. Traditional Japanese breakfast with Toshi-san and Mayumi-san is a must. Nothing. It’s so cute. We were incredibly lucky to get a booking. Hesitated to review as want to keep it a secret!

He drove us to/from bus terminal slopes, ski rental shops/supermarkets. He was so nice that sometimes we don't want to ask him for a ride. The kitchen is well equipped ranging from rice cooker, microwave, oven, fridge, sukiyaki pot, coffee maker, various sizes of dish and bowl, etc. Nothing about the chalet. There is no grocery store or supermarket that sells fresh products within walking distance. The bus service in Hakuba area is not convenient, especially with a young kid.

• Rhys (10/5): Our cabin was perfect for 5 people to stay at and go snowboarding. - The facilities were more than sufficient with an equipped kitchen. Toshi and his wife were more than generous in assisting us and transporting us around the town and to the slopes within limits. Located conveniently next to Happo-one so you can even walk to the slopes. There is no drying room so our bindings got packed with ice by the end of the stay.
• Michael (10/5): We'll be back next season - Staying at Toshis place was great. He was very accommodating and happy to drive us wherever we needed to go. The kitchen was fully stocked and has everything we needed. It's also walking distance to town and a few lifts. Loved our stay and would definitely stay again.

Very well fitted out 'cabins' (duplex) with bottom floor bathroom, mini-kitchen and small living area (note our unit had a table with floor-level seating) and upstairs tatami room (good for a couple, and one or two kids). Nice views from glass doors/small balcony. Parking right out front. Great onsen (needs to be pre-booked an is an extra fee - but worth it to have to yourself for an hour). Very nice staff. the seating (floor-level chairs) around the table were not super comfortable.

• Clarisse (8/5): Very good - Mayumi-san and Toshi-san were great hosts, they provided transportation and assisted in getting us around Happo area, including grocery shopping and transport to the ski rental shops. The private bath was a great addition to the facilities, and relatively affordably priced. Communication was a slight challenge at the start, perhaps due to differences in first language.
• Jackson (10/5): Can’t recommend this stay highly enough, truly 10/10! - Super comfortable stay with everything we needed to cook after a day on the slopes. The bedding was excellent, showers and toilets worked well. Our host Toshi really made the stay exceptional, he helped us wherever he could, dropped us at the lifts each day and made it really special. Location was excellent, with a shuttle stop for the other mountains 2 minutes walk away. The on-site Onsen was also great and worth booking after a long day. Can’t recommend this stay highly enough, truly 10/10!
• Candice (10/5): Awesome cottage for families, with brilliant host - This cute little log cottage was the perfect space for our family to relax in Hakuba. Toshi, the owner, was absolutely amazing. Very accommodating and gave our family lifts to the slopes and into town each day. He also provided lots of advice. Clean, comfy cottage with comfy Japenese style beds and a great kitchen and dining space to chill out after a day on the slopes. Coin laundry with powder and hanging provided was a great addition. Two bathroom's and toilets were perfect for our family, and the drying room at the entry made sure our snow gear was dry each day. Location was pretty good. Five minute walk into town, down a bit of a hill, but we all managed. Also five minute walk to the shuttle bus to access the slopes. Heated floors kept us all toasty and warm. Loved our stay here, would highly recommended. Nothing. It was all perfect.

• Richard (10/5): Perfect! - The room was very clean and Mr. Toshi was very helpful in anyway possible. The onsen was also very good and was very affordable.
• Houston (10/5): Exceptional - This place was fantastic. Mountain cabin in a distinctly Japanese style. It's not especially walkable but Toshi will shuttle you around the valley, including to Happo One ski resort. Just need to take a taxi if you're trying to get back after dinner time. Private onsen was really nice. Toshi and his wife were wonderful hosts, easily recommend. No complaints.
• Dominik (6/5): Nice log cabin, private onsen (for a fee), 6/10 solely due to disrespectful/mean host - Log cabin with 5 beds, fireplace (with plenty of firewood) and able to rent private onsen for reasonable price. Nearby Happo One, ~15 minute walk to resort downtown area or requires a shuttle ride from host or taxi to most places. Also can walk to the nearby hotel for shuttle to other ski resorts. The host Toshi was disrespectful and inconsiderate. Offered rides to some places (Bus/Train terminal, rental shop, gondola base) but would get ticked off when it came to others - Paraphrased "If kids can walk 5 minutes to the hotel nearby for a shuttle to the next resort over so can your elderly parents." "I never wait for guests at rental shop, have other guests". When I asked twice to confirm a shuttle time, Toshi increased his voice in a snarky manner to express that he already told me once before...Funny enough I later learned from his wife (who is much nicer) that he provided incorrect shuttle times (It goes at 8:15, 9:15, 10:15, not 8/9/10). The place and onsen is great (location requires rides from the host and taxi's home from dinner) but I would not stay here again due to the host's demeanor towards making us feel uncomfortable with our questions or ordinary requests.
• Kristine (10/5): Absolutely delight to stay at. Will definitely return with families! - Location was a little quiet for a good night rest in and a fantastic short walk to the shuttle buses to the different slopes. Toshi and his wife were absolutely amazing with the transport, transfer and any kind of help you need. Would highly recommend especially for groups and families! Great heating, superb cleanliness, awesome space.
• James (10/5): Highly recommended - Great central location and access to Happo One gondola. Host Toshi was exceptional and happy to help with transfers from bus depot and to ski base/restaurants
• Fiona (10/5): Cost clean and comfortable stay - The cottage was impeccably clean and so cosy and comfortable. We loved the homely feel and it was a great place to come back to after a long day or skiing out in the cold. The cottage had 2 bathrooms, floor heating, comfortable futon beds and everything needed for a fantastic stay. The only downside is the location to the village. Our host Toshi alleviated this by dropping us off and picking us up from close locations such as the Happo bus stop and Happo One ski resort. At night, he was able to drive us one way (ie drop off) and then we typically walked approx 20 mins each night to go back to the cottage. The walk didn’t phase us too much but I would recommend hiring a car if possible!
• Felicity (10/5): A fantastic place to stay while visiting the area. Well set up and with the most accomodating host. - We loved staying at Log Cottage Epoch. Our host Toshi is an exceptional host and went out of his way to ensure our needs were met. The cottages are beautiful, comfortable warm and well set up. The location is and setting are perfect. We could easily walk to local shops and places to eat, even with snow on the ground. The onsen is a great experience. Toshi shared lots of great recommendations for ski hire and lift pass and local places to eat and buy groceries and shared local discounts with us. If we are ever coming back to Hakuba we will be back to stay again. We didn't want to leave.

• Sriram (10/5): A fantastic home for skiing. - Great hosts who are very helpful in transportation on a daily basis. Getting to the ski slopes, ski rental, groceries, restaurants or even shopping was so easy as they are always available to drop and pick up. We did not have to wait anywhere. The cottage is squeaky clean and we'll furnished and very comfortable with floor, heating, hot water etc. Beautiful place, 3 mins drive from the slopes and toshi san and his wife are always available to pick you up or drop you off on time. Very knowledgeable and helpful with trains, ski rentals etc. Oh, and amazing value for money. Cottage was spacious for our family of four and the amenities are great. Hope we get this place again next season. The onsite onsen is also great.
