Guest Reviews
- Willenberg (10/5): Great place to stay and visit while in Rhode Island. - Breakfast was excellent both days! Everything was good!
- Serghei (9/5): Wonderful stay, we'd love to come back next time. - The host was wonderful, very friendly and accommodating. We loved the interior, quiet location and the beautiful garden she has. The breakfast was pretty good too. The lack of a shower curtain in the top-level Sun-lit Suite, coupled with a very slow-draining tub, made it pretty challenging to take a shower. Mary provided some extra towels to help reduce water splashing outside the tub.
- David (10/5): - Mary was wonderful,
Pleasantly welcoming.
- Richard (10/5): Convinced this is the best B&B to visit the historic parts of Newport. - I felt like I was at home, because this is a nice small operation in the innkeeper's home. Breakfast was varied and filling. I was allowed to changed my selection to eggs vs. French Toast when French Toast was the breakfast - although my spouse loved the French Toast! If you are going to Newport and want to be within walking distance of the Gilded Age Mansions - this is your place. Also puts you walking distance close to the Cliff Walk, Ocean Drive, and the piers with the restaurants and retail. Only complaint was the Nor'Easter weather - but there was plenty of indoor activity with the house tours.
- Kathleen (6/5): She owns an old house which she has renovated to become a bed and breakfast. Needs a lot of work - Lic Location was great, easy to find.
- Hailey (10/5): - Mary was so kind, her homemade breakfast made the trip, location was great, overall great stay!
- Sale (10/5): -
- Brent (10/5): - Mary was absolutely the best hostess. The location was very convenient. A great place to stay in Newport
- Frank (8/5): -
- Mary (5/5): Minuses outway the positives. Would not stay here again considering the price. - Very convenient location. Owner was very nice and breakfast was good. Big tub in top bedroom. Property needs some love. Bathtub takes a couple hours to drain. Mattress needs replacing as do pillows. Very poor lighting in room and no full length mirror. Tiny TV. Peeling wallpaper in bathroom. Mold in bathtub calking around tub. Handrail does not go all the way up the stairs.
- Denise (10/5): - Host Mary was fantastic…so sweet & friendly that we immediately felt at home! Her beautiful garden B&B is in a great neighborhood, very safe & walkable. We were in town for a wedding and Mary gave us advice on things to see & do and everything she recommended was great! Also super yummy breakfast…highly recommend!
- John (10/5): - It was a great location and our host could not have been more helpful and nice. We will return
- Oban (6/5): Pleasant. - The location was good. Room was pleasant. Too much clutter in the room - no space to put suitcases. Thought more effort could have been made with the breakfast served and tea and coffee should have been available at any time of the day. Other wise pleasant enough. The hostess was very friendly.
- christine (8/5): Lovely hostess, in a quiet residential area about a 20 minute walk from shopping and good re - Good breakfast. Could have had more fruit and some available for later in day A bit expensive
- Emily (10/5): - Good
- Lucy (10/5): -
- Elena (10/5): Wonderful B&B in Newport, RI - We stayed at Gardenview B&B for 2 nights in July. Ms. Mary has a beautiful house which she generously opens to her guests. She prepares delicious breakfast every morning, from scratch and it’s different each time. Our room was large, clean, comfortable, and, yes, with the garden view. The neighborhood is quiet, easy to navigate through. We enjoyed our stay very much. Thank you.
- Bill (10/5): Our stay was lovely. Mary was a gracious host. Loved the property and location, away from the center of town - Spacious and nicely appointed room, lovely garden in the back. Quiet location. N/A
- Kathryn (10/5): Nary was the most caring hostess and went out of her way to ensure that we were comfortable - Breakfast was delicious. Cooked especially for you.
- Anderson (10/5): We loved staying at the Gardenview! - We liked everything! We liked everything!
- Qiaoyi (10/5): - Lovely place.. Cannot recommend more.
- O'donovan (10/5): Exceptional and welcoming experience, will definitely visit again. - The breakfast was fantastic. Large breakfast, fresh made and delicious. It kept us full all day and we looked forward to it each morning and even wrapped the amazing scones to take with us each morning. The room was big with a king size bed, extremely comfortable and the jetted tub was relaxing after a full day of walking around Newport. Mary was kind and friendly with good advice and information about things to see and restaurants to visit. Her home was decorated with care and a wonderful eye for antiques.
- Tobias (10/5): We had a fabulously relaxing and welcoming stay at the Gardenview B&B. - The host is exceptionally friendly, and it's a pleasure to stay at the Gardenview Bed and Breakfast. The location is just gorgeous, and the house and surrounding garden are beautiful for a great stay in Newport.
- John (8/5): Mary is a lovely host. Our room was very clean and comfortable. - Mary prepared a very good breakfast.
- Rachel (10/5): stay was beyond our expectations - Delicious breakfast, beautiful and well-maintained house, and cozy, comfortable room. Mary has put great thought into every detail to create a warm and homey stay for guests.
- Francis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martha (10/5): Mary is kind, accommodating, and made our stay very enjoyable! - Breakfast was amazing! The location made it easy to go sightseeing to mansions and the cliff walk.
- Mari (7/5): Great location in Newport, but overpriced for what it is. - The location is great. Away from the action & noise, but close to the mansions and cliff walk.
Parking in driveway or on street was nice. It’s an old home and noticeably musty.
I could hear the toilet flush & shower going above me louder than usual and probably a good 20-30 minutes after 10pm.
The housekeeping (mildew on shower curtains, water drains very slowly) & maintenance needs to be stepped up a bit ( torn wallpaper in bathroom, rust on heater vents)
It felt more like staying in an Airbnb shared home with a private bath than a B&B.
3 nights cost over $900.
- Timothy (8/5): Very good -
- Kris (10/5): Exceptional - The proprietor, Mary was absolutely amazing and making sure we had everything we needed at all times. She was pleasant and timely and couldn’t have been more lovely.
- Steffen (10/5): Gardenview B&B - very nice spot, cute, a quiet place all was good
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional - Mary is truly the most wonderful host...and a beautiful person! Made our stay absolutely perfect. Her home is lovely...clean, cozy, comfortable in every way! Breakfast was delicious! Can't recommend it highly enough!
- Lisa (10/5): - Mary is a joy and welcomes you into her home and makes you feel like part of her family.
Nice quiet place to stay that is close to attractions.
Breakfast was lovely and we look forward to returning soon.
- Gene (10/5): - Very comfortable room and gracious charming owner.
- Robert (10/5): Can’t wait to come back - Hospitality, garden, waterfall, antique decor… kind Host!!
- Bradley (10/5): Couldn’t ask for better experience - Very relaxing back yard. The owner is very pleasant and easy to talk too Pillows
- Eve (10/5): A delightful 3 night stay! ❤️ - We had a cosy, spacious room with a lovely outside sitting area in the garden. The bed and pillows were very comfortable.
Mary, our host, was absolutely lovely and very welcoming. She made the most delicious breakfasts every morning. We loved our stay. There was nothing to dislike.
- Christine (10/5): A lovely welcoming experience with an authentic Newport house and furnishings, a welcoming host and perfectly located fo - Our room was amazing with a huge statement bed and lots of antiquities such as an original steamer trunk. Everything was clean and prepared and you could tell that thought and time had been taken to prepare our room. Mary was the perfect hostess and the breakfasts were most enjoyable sharing with another couple. Nothing. Everything was lovely.
- Cathy (10/5): Exceptional - Great location. Wonderful hostess.
- Jun (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robin (10/5): Newport wedding weekend - Our host was lovely. Friendly and efficient. She has this down to a science and I felt we could be fast friends. Delicious breakfasts and beautiful setting. Really enjoyed the back garden and location. I want to go back again in the future!
- Joan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ed (10/5): - The accommodations were superb! Our host, Mary Fitzgerald, made you feel that this was your home. I would definitely recommend staying here versus the large B&B's!
- Louise (10/5): Perfect - you must stay. - Mary is the kindest most considerate host ever. She makes an AMAZING breakfast and when we had to leave super early she left scones out for us. Mary is incredibly knowledgable about the area and really helpful with activities. She is by far the best host we have met.
The property is gorgeous and unique. Gorgeous bathroom, stunning decore and all the facilities you could need. Bed was comfortable with lovely bedding. Absolutely nothing - if we didn’t live in UK we could come stay again within a week! I did a lot of research about where to stay in Newport and I am sure there is no where better than here!
- Susan (9/5): Superb - Mary is a wonderful hostess, the breakfast was delicious, the bedroom was a nice size and very quiet. Location is great because it is in a quiet neighborhood away from the hustle and bustle of downtown , but close enough to walk to the mansions (about a mile) and to downtown.
- Joan (10/5): Lovely and relaxing - Beautiful gardens and wonderful room
- Pgd64 (10/5): Loved Gardenview - We loved everything about Gardenview. Mary was so welcoming, helpful and sweet. We felt like we were staying with family. The Sunlit Suite was so big, comfortable and cozy. We loved the bed, bath and skylights. The room was bright and the weather was so great that we just kept the windows open and never needed the AC. We appreciated the refrigerator in the room and all of the tables, dressers etc where we could put our luggage and belongings. There is nothing I would change about the room.
The breakfast was nice, and we enjoyed visiting with the other couples who stayed there. Since we stayed 4 days, Mary asked if we would like something different on the last day, and she went out and bought yogurt and gluten free granola for me. She did whatever she could to make our stay a good one!
The location is good. We were .7 miles from the bus stop for the free bus that takes you around Newport. This part of town is close to the mansions which are amazing. You are also about a mile from downtown Newport so it's not a bad walk. Do yourself a favor and stay here! Nothing
- Natalie (10/5): Exceptional - A lovely stay overall. Accommodations were great and hosts were attentive and offered everything we needed. Highly recommend!
- Mary (10/5): Mary was a fantastic hostess! - What I loved about our stay, besides Mary, is the atmosphere. You could see the care that went into each room. Everything was so homey and cozy. The backyard garden was the perfect place to have coffee or sit and read a book.
( I did both!) I highly recommend Gardenview Bed and Breakfast.
- Kathleen (10/5): Exceptional -

- Karen (10/5): Comfortable room , friendly service and beautiful garden. - Very quaint. Beautiful garden. Mary was so friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable and clean. Excellent breakfasts. Nothing to complain about.
- Marcey (10/5): - Mary the hostess is absolutely awesome. She is knowledgeable of the area and gives great suggestions. Breakfast was delicious. Quiet, relaxing place to stay!
- Maire (9/5): Mary is a great hostess, and made us feel at home. The breakfasts were very good. - Very friendly host, nice comfortable room, very good breakfast We would have preferred the option of two single beds
- Ancella (10/5): Exceptional - Mary was so hospitable and we are so grateful that we were able to stay in her beautiful home. She made our stay wonderful and we will definitely be returning in the future!
- Melissa (10/5): Great stay! - We had a wonderful experience staying at the Garden View Bed and Breakfast! Great location and the host was amazing!
- Cameron (10/5): - Mary was great.
- Kathryn (10/5): Lovely Newport B&B - Mary was so nice! The room was very nice. The bed pillows
- Mark (10/5): Lovely. - Quiet, beautiful room in a lovely home. It’s quite near The Breakers house and Cliff Walk.
Good for solo travellers. It wasn’t a problem for me, but for those arriving by bus, the house is a 10/15 walk from the 67 bus stop and Thames Street and it’s not all flat.
- Bernadette (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marvin (10/5): We will go back if we get to Newport again. - Location was convenient to Newport sites, restaurants. Mary was a wonderful asset for us. She was a great hostess and made us feel welcome and accommodating. We had a great time! Delicious breakfast! The weather was humid and it was warm there. Otherwise all good.
- Brent (10/5): Wonderful - Wonderful (quick) visit. Great breakfast. And Mary gave good advice on what to do/eat/etc. And she is fun to just talk with.

The owner Mary was very helpful and very friendly. She gave us helpful suggestions and had many stories about Newport. Our breakfast was delicious as well.
- Luann (10/5): Mary is a wonderful host and the bed-and-breakfast is beautiful. - This was the best bed-and-breakfast I’ve ever stayed at. The breakfasts were amazing, Mary was an absolute wonderful host, the place was immaculately clean, and the location was amazing. We couldn’t of ask for any more. The only thing that was slightly to my disliking was, there was no shower in the bathtub.

The owner, Mary, is so warm and gracious, and she whipped up fresh and delectable breakfasts both mornings of our stay. The first evening and second morning, we had a lovely walk to Gooseberry Beach. It was also so much fun taking in the very cool decor that Mary has so clearly lovingly created. I would have already tried to reserve for next year's event, but a date hasn't been set yet!
