Guest Reviews
- Hirschmann (7/5): Friendly and helpful staff. Thank you. - The location and the village were lovely to visit Breakfast was average. Missed not having some fresh fruit.
- Evgenios (10/5): -
- Michael (9/5): - Nice hotel in the middle of a lovely Market town on the edge of the moors. Nice food and drinks available. No food available on a Sunday night and hard to find a parking space.
- Gillian (9/5): Welcoming staff. Great stopover venue - Location. Great breakfast car parking opposite Nothing not to like
- Adrienne (10/5): - Unexpected great dinner and breakfast for a vegan! Comfortable accommodation and perfect location right in the square.
- Kevin (9/5): - Nice and tidy clean room. Room was small the shower was smaller than a phone box.
- Antony (9/5): - All good
- Judy (9/5): Good location, affordable and good breakfast! - Very well located, the staff were all friendly and very helpful and the breakfasts were great. Nothing
- Audine (8/5): Would recommend and would stay again - Great location, proper pub atmosphere and great food Limited parking h in road, car park not too far though, shower was rather compact
- Zoe (7/5): Quick stop over whilst working in the area - Nice and central in the heart of Chagford A little dated
- Ludovic (10/5): Lieu accueillant et animé au cœur d’un village sympathique -
- Kate (10/5): Perfect stop for Two Moors Way - Perfect! Lovely atmosphere as I walked in, with people laughing at the bar. Lovely offer to carry my bag up (not needed, but appreciated all the same), perfect room and better than I expected for the very reasonable price. Bed was super comfortable, window open and the village was quiet and peaceful. Great dinner, and they helpfully made me a sandwich for lunch, delivered it in the morning so I could pick it up fresh as I left. Nothing, couldn't have been nicer.
- Sally (10/5): Brilliant. - Chagford is wonderful and only a short drive onto Dartmoor. The pub is lovely and the food excellent. No parking at the pub but there is a public car park close by, free from 6pm to 10am. Nothing.
- linda (9/5): Great comfortable and friendly stay in good location close to everything. - Room clean, spacious and bed comfortable. Great location in centre. Good breakfast and meal in evening. Friendly staff and parking was cheap nearby.
Nice to have bathrobe, tea/coffee making facilities. toiletries and shower worked well Cant think of anything we disliked.
- Alan (10/5): - We loved the food, the accommodation, the staff were so friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there again.Very dog friendly, great place to stay ,great little town brilliant walks around the area. There was nothing we didn't like.
- Daryl (6/5): If you can look beyond the rooms - this is a good value destination. - The staff were very good and attentive- the breakfasts were excellent for the money paid and the location- on the square in this really attractive town - was perfect. The food we had downstairs one night was also good- good honest pub grub. Okay the room was very underwhelming- - cabinets were old pine and things didn't really match that well. There were very few shelves and places to put things in the room and en-suite. The worst thing was the space- it was too small for a twin room with two people. There was no vanity cabinet or desk and no chair in the room. This meant my partner had to take the mirror off the wall to do her make up on the bed every morning. The beds themselves were far too soft for me and by the second night this gave me backache. While all areas were clean, the hallways and stairs were pretty tired and threadbare and needed a freshen up.
- Jeanette (7/5): Not too bad but bed was very uncomfortable with a rock solid mattress - The morning breakfast staff seemed a bit more welcoming and pleasant than the evening staff, it was clean and tidy. Food was nice and freshly cooked. We really enjoyed the breakfast. The bed was so hard you may as well been sleeping on the floor. Definitely think a new mattress needs to be purchased. There was no designated parking which wasnt too much of problem for us arriving on Saturday evening but can imagine it being a bit annoying for anyone midweek.
- Derek (10/5): Brilliant - Location & style N/a
- Siubhan (9/5): -
- Hilary (9/5): A really comfortable stay and we would definitely return. - Breakfast was good and the location was just perfect for what we wanted
- bovedita (10/5): -
- Karen (9/5): Very good location & great breakfast. - The location is excellent if you like walking. We walked from Chagford to Fingle Bridge with stunning views from the back of Castle Drogo looking down onto the river. Ring o Bells so close to everything. The breakfast was freshly cooked & good choices. Our classic double room was cosy & comfortable. Recommended stay. Nothing. All good.
- Gail (4/5): -
- Francoise (9/5): Séjour très confortable dans une région exceptionnelle - copieux et appétissant Possibilité de parking
- Robert (8/5): -
- Steve (9/5): Recommended - Welcoming and comfortable with a great breakfast Nothing
- Rebecca (9/5): - A great friendly local pub with plenty of character. All staff were warm and helpful, Food was hearty and delicious. Ideally located in the centre of the village.
- Stephen (9/5): Comfortable well-equipped accommodation in a cosy pub run by a friendly mother and daughter team. - On arrival, we had a friendly greeting from the lady owner who showed us our room. This was the 'deluxe double room' with a good view over the square. It was very well equipped, contained three beds, spacious and clean. Access to the rooms was via a side door, so we didn't have to walk through the bar area. Breakfast was plentiful and my scrambled eggs were nicely cooked. This only slight criticism is cosmetic rather than practical. The carpet in the corridor outside the bedrooms was slightly worn, although perfectly clean. Perhaps it could be replaced to create a better impression of the high standard accommodation within the rooms?
- Siubhan (9/5): -
- Christina (7/5): Met our requirements well - Excellent location but parking a bit of a problem
Good value & standard for a 3* property Stairway & landing area look shabby
- Tainá (6/5): - I liked the location. It was very convenient. The diningroom had a strong smell of alcohol even in the morning.
- Christine (10/5): -
- frances (8/5): Great place to stay in lovely little village - Lovely property, large bedroom space. Exceptionally clean and great value for money Nothing to note
- Dean (8/5): Brilliant location - The staff were very helpful and friendly, The food was lovely. The side door was really difficult to close from inside, it needs a handle to make it more easy.
- Mike (10/5): -
- Dunk624 (9/5): - Good shower, good comfortable bed, good breakfast Nothing reallt
- Cathy (8/5): -
- Peter (10/5): -
- Sawyer (9/5): Great stay. - We love staying here. You are automatically included in chat with the locals in the pub. We enjoyed being welcomed in the pub. The breakfast is excellent. Local produce. Amy was lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Jason, the barman, was good for a story. Room was exceptionally clean, comfortable and warm in cold, wet February. Nothing.
- Sally (10/5): Perfect stay would definitely recommend - Absolutely lovely , friendly, fabulous food clean and ideally situated for our travels.
- Peter (8/5): - Nice traditional pub accommodation in the centre of the lovely village. Good sized room with comfy bed. Old fashioned split tap with very cold and very hot water. Creeky floor. Cheap shower. Kettle with such short cable, you have to make your coffee on the floor. Only one option full English breakfast. Expensive room.
- Ian (9/5): Great location, great value. - Location for walking. Any think of anything negative
- Bywaters (8/5): just what we needed to break our long journey down to Cornwall - very nice plenty of choice, quick service Unfortunatly the bed was just a little too soft for our liking
- Margot (8/5): Great value for money. Cosy pub. No frills. - The Ring o Bells is an old fashioned, friendly pub. The room was clean and comfortable with an adequate shower. The bar can be lively but the food, although quite simple pub group, was excellent. Can’t fault the breakfast which was also excellent, the only downside is it is only served between 8 and 9 AM. Overall I would say the Ring O Bells is exactly as would be expected for the price. We liked it. This is the third time we have stayed there, as a convenient stopping off point, on our way up country from our home in Cornwall. I would definitely recommend it. Excellent value for the price and the staff are very friendly! 1 hr window for breakfast too narrow. Can be noisy in the bar when trying to eat.
- Silvia (9/5): Piacevole soggiorno in un tipico pub con stanze. - Caratteristico pub con stanze al piano superiore, in posizione centrale ma comunque tranquilla. Ottima colazione. Pulizia eccellente. Biancheria da bagno con anche accappatoi. L'atmosfera accogliente del pub.
- Dominic (9/5): -
- Hannah (10/5): -
- lucy (10/5): Excellent service. Cosy room. - I booked it last minute after my circumstances changed. They were so helpful and kind. They even made me a packed breakfast because I had to leave before they started serving breakfast. Nothing
- Deborah (10/5): - Breakfast and pub food excellent, good value and tasty
Staff very friendly and helpful, when next in the area will defo stay there again Can't think of anything
- Lisa (10/5): -
- Devon (10/5): -
- Sebastian (8/5): Very good - Very good breakfast, nice room. Nothing of note
- James (7/5): -
- Morris (8/5): - Good location. Friendly staff. Comfortable
- Jon (10/5): -
- Elizabeth (8/5): -
- Jane (8/5): -
- Beverley (8/5): Basic, average acommodation, but lovely location - The staff friendly, the room was comfortable and clean, lovely location Breakfast was only served between 8 and 9 and it was OK, I felt the price I paid for 1 night was a little excessive, compared to that of friends who had 2 nights. However, I appreciate we paid for location
- Richard (9/5): -
- Rowe (10/5): A homely pub in a beautiful village. Friendly staff, good food & clean, all good - Friendly staff, clean, lovely food All good
- wayne (9/5): Pleasant stay in a delightful town. - A very friendly pub. Our room was of a decent size. Would have appreciated a more powerful shower. Very good evening meal at a good price. Breakfast (which was included in the room price) was plentiful and well cooked. Throughout our stay the staff were extremely friendly (as were the locals). Would definately return. The shower
- Daron (10/5): Will be back - Lovely location Nothing
- colin (8/5): Warm and welcoming - Location, easy access friendly and helpful staff. Door frame a little low for a 6 foot chap.
But to be expected on an older property.
- Debbie (9/5): Great stay in a fantastic village. Loved the pub dinner too - Lovely location and good room options Nothing
- Bryn (10/5): Just what we needed and exceeded our expectations. - Beautiful place. Warm, welcoming, happy and friendly.
Great atmosphere, kind staff, great sense of humour, food & drink was spot on, both breakfast and dinner.
They have a lush staffy pup who came and said hello and is VERY friendly. Nothing bad to say, I’d definitely stay here again. Lovely place. I would recommend to anyone.
- Lauren (10/5): -
- wendy (9/5): Very nice staff always pleasant idea for our travels with dog. - Staff, room, evening meal, breakfast, dog friendly, our second stay.
Loved the addition of gowns in the room. I bit steep £25 for the dog.
- Janet (10/5): - The place was lovely, nice little pub, nice job on the breakfast. Location was great for exploring Dartmoor. Everyone there was very friendly and helpful. Bed was a bit soft for us, but that is a personal preference.
- Cliff (10/5): Would certainly stay again. We were warned in advance of the band but for us it was a bonus. - Loved the place. Local pub with a band playing in the Friday night we stayed. Dream come true for a couple of older music lovers. Decent pub food in the evening and a great full breakfast in the morning. Nothings
- barbara (10/5): Good! - it was a spectacular place to be. The room was cosy and warm. Food was good. Staff were polite and kind, always ready to help. The food was good as well. The locals were very lovely and approachable and helpful. It was a good holiday for my husband and I. There was no parking for those staying at the bed and breakfast but there was a public parking not too far and the rates were reasonable.
- Jane (8/5): - Lovely breakfast. Cosy, comfy, clean room
- indge (8/5): enjoyable - The breakfast was excellent, although we didn't have the full cooked one. The pub is situated right in the middle of Chagford, ideal for us. Parking was either on the road or in the long stay carpark round the corner. The room was relatively small with limited space to put anything, other than that it was all very comfortable and agreeable. There was a small sitting area outside the room which I used instead of sitting on the bed to read my book.
- Neil (8/5): Very warm and welcoming, hearty tasty food. Really comfortable and relaxed atmosphere - Very warm and welcoming, hearty tasty food. Really comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Nothing really
- Margot (8/5): Good value , friendly stopover in a beautiful village. - Lovely breakfast, very friendly staff, great location, clean, comfy room with everything we needed. The dinner was good value and very tasty. The bar area where the food is served can become very noisy in the evening and it's hard to have a conversation. It would suit some people, but not if you want a quiet chat or an early night!
- Véronique (8/5): -
- Lynn (8/5): Very pleasant stay loved the puppies! - Excellent location, wonderful atmosphere and friendly, professional staff. Quaint!
- STEVEN (10/5): made our holiday - Excellent quality breakfast and evening meal nothing really
- Janet (9/5): Lovely village and great pub. - Staff were very helpful and friendly. I have a blue badge so was able to park right outside the pub after 5pm. Parking might prove difficult otherwise.

- James (9/5): -
- Mark (10/5): It was enjoyable, friendly, and felt like a home away from home, with great food! - I have been coming to the Ringer for many, many years. It is a wonderful establishment with first rate yet reasonably priced food and wonderful rooms. It is what you would call a proper pub with a rich history and wonderful ambience. It is fun just to sit and watch the conversations and faces and laughter. It is even more fun when you jump in and chat, which both visitors and locals love to do. I would recommend staying here and visiting here whenever coming to Chagford or even to Dartmoor. Nothing
- rob (9/5): - Gezellige pub met goed eten en prima ontbijt. Niets
- Melanie (9/5): - Food and location great All good
- Walter (8/5): Goede ligging - Gelegen in het centrum van een prachtig dorpje. Eenvoudige, maar wel ruime kamer. Prima ontbijt. Vriendelijke mensen. Bed had wel wat breder gemogen.
- Andrew (8/5): -
- Rosie (8/5): Great Local Pub B&B - The staff here were exceptional - we met several different staff over our three days here and every single one was friendly, helpful, and attentive. They all had nice things to say about the pub and local area, and made us feel very welcome. The room was very spacious, it's an old building so it's quirky and a bit wonky, but that's charming in it's own way. Great WiFi, good water pressure in the shower, and location couldn't have been better. A bit of street noise but nothing out of the ordinary for the centre of the village. Decor is a bit dated and the doors slam if your neighbours aren't conscientious!
- julia (7/5): -
- Paul (7/5): -
- Penny (9/5): Good value pub stay. I’d stay there again. - Great location, very comfortable. Room had everything I needed for an overnight stay. I really liked the view out over the square. Excellent breakfast. Friendly staff. Nothing.

- Robert (8/5): - Friendly, welcoming staff. Great breakfast. Comfortable room.Very heavy d Very heavy duvet which was too warm for summer nights.
