I have eaten in some of the best restaurants in the world and the quality of the food at Downham hall rivals them all, it was real Michelin star quality, needless to say we will definitely be back and will be telling all of our friends about this real gem of a Hotel !!!! - Richard (10/5): - Fantastic stay assisted by the very helpful and friendly staff
- Rebecca (8/5): Nice property, but room smelt of damp - Lovely property, friendly service, delicious breakfast and lovely scenery. Unfortunately the bedroom smelt very badly of damp. Obviously a problem/leak, which spoilt our stay somewhat as the smell was so potent. Wherever prepared the room must have known as the window was open and there was a diffuser in the room to try and mask the smell.
- Elanor (10/5): - Enjoyed our brief stay and wished we had booked for longer. Know for next time! Beautiful house in a quiet location, room was lovely and so comfortable. Thank you very much.

- Peter (8/5): - Staff very friendly and helpful
- Denise (10/5): - Steve on reception was particularly impressive, all the staff so friendly
- Andy (10/5): - Great stay, lovely modern clean room also with iron
- Stephen (10/5): Consistently Excellent - I’ve stayed at Downham Hall several times and each time it’s been an excellent stay in a great peaceful location.
- Joel (10/5): Nice, quiet hotel - This venue is primarily a weddings / functions hotel with only 5 rooms. I stayed on a Mon and Tues when the restaurant is closed but there are eateries within 1 mile.
As such the hotel itself was very quiet which was perfect for me. The room was large and very well decorated. Wifi worked well.
The ladies on reception were very professional and friendly.
There is an honesty bar for after hours which I did not use but looked nice and a good idea.
Overall I would say this hotel served a functional purpose but that would really be doing it a disservice as it's better than that. It would be nice to stay here over a weekend to enjoy the gardens and eat in the restaurant but my trip was only for business.
- Debra (10/5): - Lovely property. Our room was pretty with a beautiful view and a spacious and tasteful bathroom. The “Small” English breakfast was delicious and sufficient!
- Sue (8/5): - Lovely rooms
- Colin (10/5): Fabulous stay - Beautiful room and location. Bed exceptionally comfortable. The staff were lovely-friendly and helpful. Tasty breakfast. 10/10!
- m (10/5): Absolute gem of a hotel - Absolute little gem of a place, cannot find fault with anything. Would go as far as to say it's the best hotel/accommodation we've stayed at in UK. Right on our doorstep,we never knew it was here.
Good luck to all of you for the future, you deserve to succeed. Thank you
- P (8/5): - A beautiful building in a lovely location. We found it a little noisy but in fairness to the hotel they were preparing for a wedding the following day.
- Mr Daniel (10/5): - Very clean room/bath room, friendly staff and atmosphere
- Robert (10/5): - Very well appointed would happily stay again
- S (10/5): Lovely country house hotel - Reasonably priced, well maintained and great service
- S (10/5): Lovely country house - Pros - beautiful building, lovely room, great service, really nice breakfast
Cons - it was slightly cold in our room but cosy under the duvet
- ANN (10/5): - Excellent and friendly service and even though there was no one to serve breakfast the first morning the girl working in the kitchen served us.
- Janet (10/5): - The Hall is full of character and in a lovely rural setting.B and B with anice cafe.Very clean and staff very friendly. Good eating places nearby. 7 miles from centre of Basildon.
- Julian (8/5): Loved The Room But No Bistro..🙁 - A beautiful place in a wonderful setting. We booked for lunch in the “Bistro” before check-in but couldn’t find a menu on-line so called a day ahead to be told that there was a new chef who was just settling in and there would be a menu on the day we booked. Unfortunately, when we were shown to our table we were told that there was only toasted sandwiches or jacket potatoes available for lunch, not really what we expected from a bistro. Otherwise, the staff were friendly and helpful and the room was splendid.
- I (10/5): Amazing from start to finish - We enjoyed our stay from the beautifully appointed bedrooms and refreshing rainshower, to the delightful meals (eating both lunch and breakfast at the property).
Attentive and respectful staff made the stay all the more enjoyable. Nothing was ever too much trouble. We were saddened to leave as we caught a view of the property through the rear window, travelling along the long drive, homeward bound.
This is a hotel I would gladly travel another 20miles out of my way to stay at again and it should be encouraged to support an independent business that is well run and provides such excellent accomodation and service.
- Christopher (10/5): Brilliant - A lovely elegant hotel with great views. Excellent rooms and helpful friendly staff. Great full English breakfast
- Jeremy (10/5): - This was my second visit here and it was every bit as good as my first. The greeting was warm and I was made to feel very welcome. My room was spacious and spotless. I love a good shower in the morning and this ticked all the boxes.
To cap it all, my breakfast was amazing.
The whole experience was wonderful and I'd recommend staying here to anyone.
- Paul (10/5): Highly Recommended - Had a wonderful stay here, it's a lovely place to stay.
- Colin (10/5): A wonderful hidden gem - What a wonderful hidden gem, just outside Basildon. Fabulous will definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Beautiful property in a stunning location.
Staff very accommodating.
Need to do evening meals
Struggled to get a taxi into Billericay
- Sally (10/5): Overnight business trip stop - Overnight stop for work.
Lovely clean , light room with views over open countryside.
Location has ample parking which is great.
Additional personal touches of home made biscuits very welcome.
