It really doesn't matter at all how comfortable the bed was, or what the stairs were like; that doesn't matter at all. What truly matters is the heart and the people of the place. And here, you know you’ve arrived at the right spot the moment you meet the smile and warm welcome of Tito and Eleftheria, who transform your experience entirely. That is the true, Cretan experience. Meeting the wonderful people who chose to bind their lives to this incredible mountain village, hearing their stories, and tasting the local flavors made by their own hands. This is an experience I will treasure for a long time, and I hope to return there very soon.

Noi avevamo prenotato una stanza piuttosto piccola ma comoda e pulita, con bagno e terrazzino. La parte migliore è la taverna in cui si mangia divinamente: il proprietario è molto cordiale ed è stato piacevole fare conversazione. E' un ottimo punto da dove visitare i dintorni: noi abbiamo fatto un bellissimo trekking nella incredibile gola di Platania dove abbiamo osservato tanti grifoni.

It’s a totally unspoilt area of Crete, with lovely villages and plenty of character and culture. The breakfasts are excellent as were the evening meals. We only wish we could have stayed longer

If you are not young, make sure to get a room in the main building - will be great. - Nice place, beautiful area and fantastic view. beautiful garden with small kids playground. Very friendly staff. good restaurant. We didn’t get a room but an apartment that was split between a kitchen on the second floor and our room on the third floor connected by steep tall steps outside. If you want to to make tea or coffee at night or early in the morning, you have to dress, walk downstairs to the kitchen and back to the room. Rain or sunshine. Also hauling the luggage to and from the room was challenging.

Quiet room with comfortable bed , nice shower room , a stove for the winter. Beautiful places to walk in a friendly small village. When I needed hot water the host switched it on for me. I didn't have breakfast , which came at an extra cost but the host gave some of the freshly baked biscuits and they were incredible, I asked if I could buy some more but she gave me some , which was so kind. Thank you! I was expecting the pool to be open but it wasn't. I chose the hotel because of the pool. It was explained that as it was end of season the hosts didn't want to throw away the pool water and refresh it because water is scarce on the island. I understood this and felt it was reasonable..

It was truly excellent in every way - gorgeous views, an excellent pool, divine food and drinks, low price but best of all, such warm and welcoming hosts. The first thing they said to us was "Make yourself at home" and it really was homely, generous hospitality at its best. I'd consider coming back to Crete just to stay here again and enjoy all the Amari region has to offer.

• SOPHIE (8/5): - Jolie auberge dans un cadre magnifique en pleine montagne. La vue est incroyable. Prenez vos dîners sur place et sortez des terrains battus en goûtant une délicieuse cuisine crétoise. La chambre n'est pas très grande mais est bien équipée et avec un balcon donnant sur cette vue incroyable Si vous recherchez le calme, cet établissement est fait pour vous La piscine était infestée de frelons, guêpes et tourterelles qui avaient soif mais étaient inquiétants. Cet hôtel semble proche de retymnon mais la route est sinueuse et ne donne pas envie de faire 1h dès la nuit tombée

Grande terrasse, excellente taverne, accueil chaleureux, petit dej magnifique composé de produits locaux… Tout était parfait. Nous aurions dû rester plus longtemps ! Nombreuses randonnées possible dans les environs et le lieu est juste idéal pour se reposer

• Vidas (10/5): - Everything is perfect here – new apartments with exceptional interiors, a great location in the mountains, close to popular visiting places and incredibly welcoming owners. They are also local guides who know the area very well and give great recommendations. If you're feeling lazy, you can enjoy a delicious dinner right at the hotel for a reasonable price. It feels like visiting your grandparents in the village. I would definitely come back again Really nothing, quiet place for very reasonable price.

• Tina (10/5): Zur Ruhe kommen im Bergdorf - Eine perfekte Ort um etwas Ruhe zu geniessen mit einer wunderschönen Bergpanorama von der Balkon oder der schöne Terrasse aus. Es gibt im Erdgeschoss eine traditionelle Taverne mit liebevoll gemachten Essen. Auf Qualität wird hier geachtet im Ganzen. Uns hat alles gefallen.

• Helen (10/5): I sense the presence of Oberon and Puck. "I know a bank where the wild thyme blows..." - Everything about Aravanes is superb. It always was, in a different way when Lampros and Maria ran it, but Eleftheria's deft hand has worked a sequence of stunning changes. The rooms, once upmarket rent rooms, are now top quality hotel rooms with wonderful features. Balconies offer stunning mountain views into the Amari, with Psiloritis and Kedros towering on either side and Samitos to the south. The cuisine remains authentically Cretan for the most part, but with one or two nods to wider Greek cuisine e.g. moussaka, which would not have seen the light of day under Lampros - "too many flavours." Absolutely nothing negative to report

• Thijs (10/5): Ongelofelijk onvergetelijk verblijf!! - Deze plek is simpelweg ongelofelijk. Prachtig gebouw in een heel rustiek en ouderwets dorpje. Ook de mensen waren mega aardig en hadden goede aanbevelingen over wat te doen in de regio. Het eten was ook echt fantastisch! Duizend maal dank!! Niks!

• David (10/5): - Tito and Elefteria are kind, welcoming people, who really make you feel at home. The rooms are comfortable and spotlessly clean, the food is consistently delicious, and their terrace has an incredible view over the whole of the Amari Valley, with Mount Ida looming above. Aravanes is heaven for a hill-walker! I liked everything. The one thing I would change is down to me -- I didn't have a car or a bike, and some wheels would have made it easier to explore this green, peaceful valley -- or to access shops or an ATM more easily. On the plus side, I walked miles on some of the quietest country roads I've ever encountered -- and the remote location is ultimately what makes the place so special. If you love simple things (the best things) -- trees and flowers, birdsong and the wind -- then you will love it here. I can't recommend it highly enough.
