Guest Reviews
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Todo
- Karin (9/5): -
- Keith (6/5): - Villa Serenta is a charming boutique hotel in the old town district, with dozens of great restaurants and shops within an easy walk. The rooftop patio is the perfect location to watch the sunset and have a quiet time away from the crowds, while the small pool below is great for cooling off. Lack of electrical receptacles, only two were working.
- Mary (5/5): Please get some decent furniture. Doesn’t have to be expensive. - Historic house. Good location. There were many outdoor patios on many levels but only one had any furniture. There was one table and four chairs in the central patio right outside our apartment. It was constantly occupied with loud people playing games and on the phone. Just a few more tables and chairs in some of the other areas would have helped. The apt was not well stocked with dishes, pans etc. The outside private patio contained one high alterlike stone table. No chairs.
- James (8/5): Nice place in the centre of town but is quiet and friendly. The staff is most accomodating. - A taste of historic Mexico city life just steps to the central quarter. Spacious. Many repeat visitors in the building. Circular staircase could be a trial if you are unsteady on your feet. The hot tub in not.
You need a key to exit the building.
- Stephen (9/5): Fantastic location, great old-world character, needs a little TLC. - Fantastic location, great character and well designed. Some rooms were much smaller than others, the older rooms had great character but lacked some maintenance. Some cushions would have been nice on the hard seats.
- Susan (8/5): Historic Mazatlan hacienda - Historic Mazatlan, close to beach
- John (9/5): Extremely pleasant and friendly helpful staff. - Location on the Centro Historico
- Eliana (10/5): -
- Robin Stanton (10/5): Lovely hotel - Beautiful building, loved the courtyards. We were in an apartment on the roof with a view of the Cathedral. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
- Tatsumi (10/5): - I love this place !!!
- Johannes (10/5): -
- Gabriel (9/5): -
- Willey (9/5): Best spot and reasonable price with perfect size rooms. - Villa Serena is the best possible location in Centro Historico. Many local restaurants and just blocks from the Machado. Easy walk to Observatorio and the Emabarcadaro for Stone Island. The Cathedral and Municipal Mercado are just short 5-6 block walks. The hotel has a small pool for cooling off in the afternoons and a hot tub on the second floor. Many rooms and excellent staff.
- Deborah (10/5): -
- Kelly (8/5): -
- Maria (10/5): Artistic Oasis in Historic Center - Beautiful, folkloric design- unique decor and excellent location. There are two plunge pools for soaking in various courtyards. It was quiet and the staff graciously put up with our terrible Spanish!
Recomendado y me volvería a quedar.
- Rosa (8/5): Very nice! - It’s style, very nice & detail The amplitude, distribution and decor
- Eduardo (10/5): - Was looking for a nice culture look place to stay in el centro. This place was amazing. Love the architecture, the greenery, the views and the pool. 100 percent recommended. Would definitely come back.
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic location, perfect atmosphere. Air conditioners were very effective. A ceiling fan would have been nice but everything else was truly perfect.
- Philippe (10/5): - The place is located right in the middle of the old town, a few blocks from the best restaurants in town.
Very few guest early May, so we enjoyed the pool in the beautiful courtyard by ourselves. Our suite was nice, basic, but lacked a bit of sunlight and the bathroom was small and outdated. We had a tour of the facility, some suites are very spacious. The staff was very kind and pleasant.
We were told it's packed in the winter and in the summer, which would make a very different experience.
- Jennifer (6/5): Amazing location, cute place. - Location! Cute complex. Staff was great. WiFi was very inconsistent. Air conditioner smelled like mold when in use. Couch was very uncomfortable.
- Sandra (9/5): Oasis in centro historic - Quiet, clean and beautiful. Perfectly located and the staff were excellent!
- Weber (9/5): Comfortable compound with many visitors staying for weeks or months every year. - Great location, spacious suite, friendly and helpful staff, funky charm. Zero communication from staff until just before my trip.
My rooms were light enough, still very interior. I usually book space with, if not a view, at least an outlook.
- Deborah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jan (9/5): Superb -
- William (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (8/5): Pleasant - Close to the Machado & not far from Malecón Plug in outlets didn’t work with my hair straightener and new batteries were needed to have air conditioning work with remote control
- Tracey (7/5): Because of the no-use phone, I don’t recommend it and I wouldn’t stay again. - Nothing special. The hot water worked well! I needed to call my bank in Canada because my debit card wasn’t working at the ATMs. The call would be collect so no charges here. I couldn’t do it on my Mexican SIM card.
*They said that I couldn’t use the phone.
Didn’t understand why but that should be changed. There are emergencies!
- Ortega (10/5): Exceptional - Great place, very clean and beautiful place,
Awesome location near a lot of restaurants and also the beach within 5 minutes walk.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect stay - It was absolutely amazing. We only stayed for 5 days but easily could have stayed months. The propertg is so unique and beautiful, so clean and in perfect location.
- Kimberly (10/5): Exceptional - Great location !
- Debby (7/5): Location and wonderful staff make up for most short comings. Rooms are quaint and lobby is beautiful. - Location and staff are wonderful! Nice other long term guests. Everyone very friendly. Water very promptly delivered. Assistance up stairs for 1 persons luggage cheerfully offered. Lobby is a beautiful garden with small pool. Beautiful tile throughout. Beds comfortable. Quiet. Living room furniture very dirty and supremely uncomfortable. Had issues with hot water and plumbing which were very promptly fixed but STILL not able to get hot water to upper floor. (So no showering up there). For the price, a hairdryer would be nice. No bathroom counter space or clothing hooks. Something dripping from ceiling into sink on upper floor. Had to ask for dish soap, sponge and kitchen towel (never got a towel). Make sure you bring coffee filters as they are not provided. Nor is a kettle. Towels are ratty.
- Jane (9/5): We walked everywhere in a foodie town with a warm and welcoming vibe and beautiful scenery - Marta and Favi and the repair folks were absolutely the best! We could not have asked for a more responsive, joyful management team, who, at the end of our stay, felt like family. Centro Historico is a bustling city center and sometimes the noise from leaf blowers etc, was hard to tune out, but it did not appreciably affect our overall comfort.
- Leslie (10/5): Exceptional - The location was perfect. The staff kept the property pristine.
- Debby (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wilson (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shelley (4/5): - We booked this property because we knew people there and they said it was really nice. We were greeted by a wonderful woman Marta but she spoke no English at all. They put us in a room beside the jacuzzi, there were no towels, no face cloths, no toilet paper, and the room was not as projected on Expedia. There was one pot a microwave a fridge and hot plate. There wasn’t even a coffee maker. We were very disappointed with what we received for the price we paid!! If the owner had been there at all we would have expressed our disappointment but they were not present at all in the three nights we were there. Thank God for some of the winter residences that lived there, they helped us to get some basics!
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Heather (8/5): Very good -
- Heather (8/5): Nice option for a short stay. - Great location. Large unit. Lovely shared spaces. Quiet. Overpriced.
- Suzanne (10/5): Villa Serena was perfect for our stay in Centro Historico! Location was great and after busy days exploring it was a lov - Beautiful setting, lovely plants, jacuzzi, calm, quiet oasis, excellent location, very helpful staff We loved everything about Vill Serena
- Deborah (10/5): Beautiful and lovely location - Beautiful The lock on the front door
- Kameron (10/5): Exceptional - Love the location and the people. The villa is so cute and cheerful. Only the lack of warm/hot water.
- Christine (8/5): - Despite the poor reviews about communication with managers, we actually got into our place right at 3:00. It might have been a challenge if we hadn’t been right there waiting.
It was a quaint and comfortable place, that seemed to have an interesting history. Very close to main plaza. Kitchen had the basics. It would have been nice to have 5 gallons of filtered water available and at least one kitchen towel. Overall a comfortable stay.
- Alejandro (10/5): - Excelente atención y comunicación.
- Martha (8/5): Very good - Location Swimming pool
- Pierre (10/5): - The friendliness and helpfulness of Martha and Faby made my stay very enjoyable. Great location also.
- Jose (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wendy (9/5): We enjoyed our stay. - I love the location and the staff. Also, it is located right in the heart of el Centro.
- Jocelyn (6/5): - We liked the room….. the bed was wonderful. We didn’t like having no hot water, no housekeeping while we were there. We felt like we had been forgotten about. The garbages were never emptied, the towels were never refreshed… we asked for hand towels or facecloths …… didn’t get either. Would not stay there again
- Lucyba3 (10/5): Exceptional - Walking distance to plazuela Machado. The rooms are spacious, nice and quiet. No breakfast.
- Julio (8/5): - It was kind of hard to get in contact with the property management (owner).
- Rod (8/5): - The apartment was pretty good with the kitchen. The microwave was a little difficult to get to and operate being on top of the fridge. I think some paper towels would have been good along with a couple dish cloths. Maybe some tall plastic cups would be good. In the bathroom, toilet paper didn't have a holder and probably some wash cloths and hand towels would be good.
- Thomas (8/5): Other than delayed entrance, overall really great spot, nice and central with easy access to beach - Really great location in Centro On arrival, no one to open the gate. They need to install some sort of doorbell or answer the phone.
- Melissa (6/5): Pleasant - The property is quite charming and in a great location. I tried numerous times to contact the property to assure my late arrival and never heard from anyone.
The host of the property never really introduced herself, and I had to constantly disturb them at their personal residence to ask any questions.
Nobody spoke any English, but that's probably my issue, not theirs.
My room had no balcony or outdoor view, it was so dark in my room I could not see properly.
The noise level in the area in the morning is quite high, so you need to put on headphones.
- Mayra A (10/5): Amazing Mazatlan - Our stay was amazing. Loved that it was near stores, the beach, and fun places.
- Amy (10/5): Exceptional - The property and room was unique, beautiful, peaceful, artistic and culturally interesting. Fabulous location. After the noise on the beaches, this was a perfect escape— yet I could still walk to the ocean every day. Truly phenomenal. Nothing
- Sweth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tracy (8/5): - The Villa Serena is a quaint property in old historic Mazatlan. When you arrive you get a feel of old country living with the courtyard and all the beautiful tiles.
There are several restaurants in the area so finding a decent meal was easy, although we were there for the eclipse and the town was overwhelmed with tourists, so finding a meal wasn't as easy as it would have been normally. It is also conveniently located so that virtually everything in the central district is walkable. We walked to the basilica, the observatory, down the Malecon and elsewhere. Rarely did we need a taxi and it was usually because we were simply too tired after walking all day.
The downsides? Well we had to go up two flights of stairs and climb through a bougainvillea forest to get to our room. Every time I came or went, I was attacked by this thorny hedge. Another factor is that since these are 'apartments' they only clean or replace towels and linens on request. Not a downside, pre se, just be aware this is not your typical hotel.
It is certainly quiet and you can leave your windows open if you wish.
- Melanie (8/5): Very good - Excellent location in Centro, lots of places to lounge in the Villa. Jacuzzi and patio area were great places to spend time in.
- Andrea (7/5): Okay stay at cute apartment - Cute apartment, with all the basics, at a great location. The room was not very clean, especially the floor had some dead bugs and lots of dust. The bathroom was tiny.
- Dan (8/5): Very good -
- Gloria (10/5): Can’t wait to go back to Mazatlan, would stay here again. - Spacious rooms, garden patio, and hacienda style architecture. In historic center, close to many restaurants, bars, museums, and beach. Unheated jacuzzi spa
- Brad (10/5): - Only issue was checking in was difficult but once we got the attention of the staff they were friendly and everything went smoothly
- Laurie (9/5): Superb - Walking distance to Malecon, beautiful sunsets and restaurants while in old Mazatlan.
- Linda (10/5): Charming and lovely place to stay in the heart of Centeo Historico. Everything within short walking distance - Loved the location, the peacefulness, the kind and helpful staff, the charming room, and the rooftop sitting area. Loved everything
- Linda (10/5): We came to see the eclipse and were so delighted with this place. Martha was so helpful and so kind & accommodating. - I loved the location. And we loved Martha! I loved the property. There was nothing I disliked.
- Linda (10/5): I will definitely be back! Just a charming and lovely place. Great price too! - Loved the location, Martha, the apartment, the outside sitting areas (especially the area on the roof) everything was so charming. Loved everything!
- Anette (8/5): Liked it a lot. - The charming character what fits do the centro. Was quite for being in the historical center. For our test the mattresses where to hard.
And in the kitchen is no way to make a coffee or cook. Good there are plebes of good restaurants around.
- Laurie (9/5): Explore el Centro from this large, atmospheric apartment. - The hotel is in a great location and very atmospheric. Our room was huge with full kitchen, dining/living room, bathroom and bedroom. The staff are great. You can go to the market to buy groceries and cook your own food if you like or just enjoy the wonderful location near bakeries and everything you might want. Bring your night mask and ask to turn off the stairwell light at night if it bothers you.
- David (10/5): Comfortable with great Mexican hospitality! - It is in a perfect location in the Historico Centro. Quiet area & close to all the markets & beach. The staff are super friendly & helpful. The atmosphere is awesome with beautiful Mexican style. The sitting areas are comfortable. The hot tub was perfect to soak in & relax. We loved everything!
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Pfohl (9/5): Superb -
- Nancy (9/5): Very nice, friendly staff and people. Location was perfect. - We like the Mexican friendly atmosphere, the expats we’re also nice 😄. The family caring for the property were very attentive and helpful. Was no problem for us but there was no elevator and we didn’t know we would be on the third floor. If you have mobility issues be sure and ask ahead of time.
- Frank (8/5): Enjoyable but we regret we can’t afford to return & won’t recommend to friends because of the cost - Marta, her nieces & Miguel were excellent. Very friendly, accommodating, helpful & responsive to any requests.
Love the guests who come for several winter months. Very friendly, welcoming & inclusive and have good tips about what to do and see. And love getting to know them at daily happy hours. These people and the location of Villa Serena are the reason we have stayed 3 times in the past. Although we emailed Andrea before this trip, we were told that we must go through booking.com. Despite coming for a month, we were charged the full daily rate. No discount to stay a month! We understand that guests who return every year should pay less. However expecting guests to pay 2.25 times more is ridiculous
I’m very sad that we and the other couple who travelled with us (2 units) will not be returning as a result The cost on booking.com is much too expensive
- Armida (10/5): Loved it and we likely we will stay there if we visit again Mazatlan. - We were at Villa Serena and the staff were very friendly and the guests as well, we meet a very nice people. We enjoyed a lot the location close to many great amenities, we walked everywhere and enjoyed a lot the colonial style of the area.
The Hotel is beautiful design. No laundry service or facilities close by and the fan over the stove didn’t work and we were missing a bathroom mat even thought we enjoy the head shower and the pressure of the water but it was a mess every time that we took a shower.
- Peter (6/5): Great location with ok rooms/apt. - The location was great, very walkable neighbourhood Was disappointing that the room was never serviced/cleaned for the whole week. On the evening of my last day, I was asked if I needed clean towels. Would have been nice to have some soap in the bathroom and there was no dish soap or dish cloth/towels in the kitchen so I had to buy them. The bathroom did not have any hooks or bar to hang wet towels.
