- Ruth (8/5): Old Rectory in the heart of Welsh Countryside - Fantastic old Rectory in a quiet country area ideal for walks along the nearby canal. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice cooked to order. Staff were helpful and friendly. Decor needs a bit of TLC but it is an old listed building.

Attention to detail neglected: curtain pole fell off when drawing curtains and loo roll not easy to reach. Service was slow and inattentive with some essential utensils not available: I.e no teaspoons at breakfast! However, full Welsh breakfast was excellent quality. Missed more fruit options. Also bed was very comfortable.

- Ian (6/5): - The condition of the property is average tending to poor. The staff are great and the food was also excellent. The bed in our room had an old fashioned mattress and when my partner moved, so did I. The plumbing in the bathroom needed attention, noisy and the toilet took 20 mins to fill the cistern and sounded like a fire hose. Sink drainage also took ages probably because the plug was seized partially closed.

Very cold floor in bathroom, no bath mat supplied, we had to use one of our towels. additionally towel radiator not working and leaking bottom left making floor wet. Would have liked a net curtain at window of our ground floor room which overlooked the car park, had to keep curtains closed for privacy.

- Steve (2/5): - I don’t like writing a negative review, but in the case I feel I must. Room was small with tacky furniture, would describe it as single with a double bed stuffed in. Bathroom had mold on the walls, sink was miniature and the electric fan not working . Paintwork was marked with wiring loose bedroom . Just a view of the snags.
- Tracey (10/5): - A very friendly and relaxing hotel. We have no complaints. The welcome and hospitality was very good, our room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The food was amazing. The only thing that lets it down is that it’s obviously a very old building and requires constant maintenance, so the building was a little un cared for in places. But it won’t stop us from returning. It was very good and the views were amazing
- Michaela (4/5): - The property has such much potential, however the cleanliness was poor. The main hall had remnants of a prior wedding which didn't look like it had been cleared for a week or more. The gardens had old glasses etc left on the tables. The breakfast was sad and we had to change rooms as the first was unclean and tired. Everywhere could have done with a hoover, dust and general wipe down, followed by a lick of paint. Such a shame as the location is beautiful, the scenery stunning, just let down by the interior.

- Stacey (2/5): Needs a serious deep clean - We got to the room to find it was a twin and not a double so we went straight back to the desk to get that changed. We got a free drink at the bar while she ziplinked the ends together. When we got back in the room we noticed that it was not clean. Mould in the bathroom, I had to clean the toilet because I was desperate after the long drive. The carpet hadn't been cleaned at all with hair and food left on it. The carpet did not fit the floor and was frayed at the edges. The door handle in the bathroom was not fitted properly and there were dead bugs lying around the widow and the floor. There was also rust in the kettle and dust in the mugs. We did not feel comfortable staying in this room and after hearing another guest complaining about the cleanliness of their room we did not want t stay in the hotel either. We booked another place and checked out. We were not charged
- Michael (10/5): - In an old rectory, this hotel’s location is beyond amazing. Nestled in a beautiful valley with stunning mountain views, you hardly remember the world you left. The room was a little worn but the room isn’t why you book here. There are beautiful walks to town, through fields and church yards, over a wide river and all with 360 degree natural beauty. The restaurant is pretty good too. Breakfast was included and was cooked to order

However bathroom was in need of renovation with cracked tiles and grout just coming out under foot. On checkout our details were taken to send the invoice over and I am still to receive this after a further phone call to ask for this. Hotel has the potential to be great as thr hard part (food) is in place.

We had arrived at the hotel very early and hung out in the pub area while they got our room ready. The staff are welcoming and the feel of the hotel itself is cozy. - Derek (10/5): Fabulous stay - This is a beautiful old property and is lovely inside and outside. The staff are all very friendly and happy to take time for a chat if that’s what you want. Food was amazing and well worth having our evening meal there. Just to point out how efficient they were, we arrived with our dog and the room was cold, the radiator would not heat up so immediately we were moved and upgraded to a beautiful room and en-suite regardless of the fact that we had our dog with us. Our dogs point of you:- Important to Flynn 1. Lots of treats 2. Sausage for breakfast, 3. lots of fuss and comfort. What more could a dog ask for. Superb stay, thank you.

The room was adequate but hearing the conversations and television from the next room was intrusive. The bathroom door needed attention as the handle was about to fall off.

- David (6/5): Shabby - My room was pretty tired. The bed was broken and had an old sprung noisy mattress. The Fan in the bathroom was broken, as was the damp mouldy window. Breakfast was tiny and they didn't have some items left such as sausages, I wouldn't stay again.
- MALCOLM (4/5): AMAZING LOCATION, ROOMS NEED UPDATING. - Unfortunately our room was definitely not up to the standard we were expecting. The shower cubicle was very dirty with mould and the door of the cubicle nearly came away in my hand. Needless to say we did not use the shower. The walls in our room really needed a new coat of paint and the carpet left a lot to be desired. On leaving we mentioned all these facts to the Receptionist and were advised that they are in the process of upgrading the rooms. This does not excuse the matter of the dirty shower and the carpet. Also the units by the side of the bed had veneer missing.

- Cheryl (4/5): - We were first given a key to an Executive Room that had not received service and still had the previous tenant’s food tray. They then put us in another Executive Room that had not been used in a while. There were over 30 dead flies scattered across the carpet and some debris in the bathtub. The sheets were very clean and we had traveled very far, so we cleaned up the flies and stayed. Everything is very outdated and the rooms are. It nicely appointed or arranged. The grounds are beautiful and the staff was lovely.it is an east walk down a walking path into CrickHowell proper where there are some great Cafe’s.
- DAVID (4/5): A Disastrous stay. - This could be an amazing hotel when around two million pounds is spent on it We stayed unfortunately for two days. The mattress had a few hundred springs in it and most of them dug into your back all night We had to laugh at the breakfast as it was the worst we have ever tried to eat. It was probably cooked three days before and kept warm depending on how many guests were staying. We had to make our own bed up the second day as the room was not serviced and had to ask reception for towels, toilet paper and water. The only reason we did not vacate the hotel was because we were visiting family and friends in the vicinity. It’s advertise as a 4 star hotel? REALLY !!

- Sharon (10/5): Wonderful stay near Crickhowell - Great location just a short drive from Crickhowell. Property provided easy access to canal walk from beautiful lawns surrounding property. Lovely views of Table Top. Staff were very welcoming and attentive. We were allocated a beautiful Superior room that was very comfortable complete with large bathroom with luxury jacuzzi bath and walk-in shower! Food was lovely we ate in the bar as we had dogs with us, which was a bonus as the hotel is very dog friendly. Breakfast was excellent with an extensive selection of continental and cooked options. Would definitely recommend staying at this hotel a hidden gem in the Brecons. Thank you to all the staff who made this Birthday trip so special!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Never again - Friendly staff and a great location don’t make up for poor standards of hygiene, or unsympathetic and disinterested management. Refusing to acknowledge a series of bad experiences - a room full of flies that are left dying across floors & on the bed being the worst - TVs that don’t work and are not fixed the best - it adds insult to injury to be refused a either acknowledgement of proper discount by managers, despite the best entreaties of staff, for whom I felt most sorry. Oh and don’t expect an evening meal if staying. The chef only does breakfasts.

The rooms need to be renovated and cleaned throughly. The were cobwebs in the room. Shower was busted. The room was a good size. Internet very poor
- Scott (10/5): Lovely countryside inn - This is an older building with loads of character. We had a large suite at the top of a rambling stairway. The restaurant was outstanding! A short drive to Hay-on-Wye. We will certainly return.
- Michael (4/5): - The day before I arrived, I emailed the hotel to make a dinner reservation for our two-night stay (Monday and Tuesday). I received no reply. When we arrived, we were told the restaurant is not open on Mondays and Tuesdays. I have searched the hotel information and can find no reference to this. We did not like the idea of having to go to the nearest town for dinner on each of those evenings and then driving back to the hotel. So we cancelled the reservation. I would have thought the hotel could have had the common courtesy to reply to my email to make us aware dinner was not available on our two-night stay.

Breakfast was lovely with even pancakes and crumpets to eat, as well as the usual English breakfast, cereal, croissants etc. Great last minute find in lovely Wales. Thank you

Cooked breakfast disappointing - where corners had been cut with bullet hard sausages - that said, excellent choice of continental breakfast
- Kyla (6/5): Not quite as advertised. - We were really looking forward to this stay, the advertisement had said air conditioned rooms and on site gardens. There was no air conditioning, anywhere. The dining room was stifling and they didn’t so much as open a window, it was honestly so hot and humid it was hard to breath. Our room was the same. And no gardens, just a lawn with a few apple trees. The staff were lovely, but next time we will give this place a miss.

- Sam (10/5): Great country stay - Brilliant locations with footpath onto the canal from the hotel and not a long walk into town. Room was very comfortable and staff were super friendly. Food in the restaurant was great and included vegan options. The only dissaspointing thing was there was only instant coffee at breakfast which didn't match the standard of everything else.

- Michael (8/5): - Nice hotel and great location set in the hills. Dinner and breakfast very good. Room very small for a standard room and mattress was as soft as a marshmallow. That said, we were made to feel very welcome, while service was generally slow, despite the hotel being not that full.
- Mel (10/5): - An idyllic location. A grand building surrounded by grounds and a setting that was perfect with lots of open space, Rooms were adequate. Dinner was delicious. Our family really enjoyed our stay here.
- TIM (6/5): - The hotel is situated in what can only be described as breathtaking grounds, very well maintained gardens and front of house but the hotel itself is very tired and in need of some TLC. Our room was lovely with balcony and seperate bath / shower room, the whirlpool bath was broken and looked out of use with cracked floor tiles and dirty grout. The towel rail was boiling hot all night and with no way to turn it off. The bed cross member supporting the bed was broken which was uncomfortable considering I’m a 280lb bloke with wife. The restaurant was an extremely long wait for the meal but well worth the wait, food was very good. We relaxed in the bar area in the evening which was very nice too. Breakfast in the restaurant was not good, the menu describes individual plate service foods but on arrival it was a buffet breakfast with oven cooked food items which is far from our expectations especially when it’s been batch cooked and the menu dictates something else, certain parts of the menu not being available. I would stay again as location, friendliness of locals and scenery are fantastic.

- Verified traveler (10/5): Delightful One-night Stay at The Old Rectory Hotel - We chose the Old Rectory Hotel on the internet. Our stay was every bit as good as we had read. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Our bedroom was large, clean and the bed linen was immaculate. We would have liked a bath instead of a shower. We are dinner and breakfast. Both meals were superb and the service was excellent. We shall most definitely stay at the hotel again

- Tom (6/5): - Outr one-night stay was OK, although I don't think we would have wanted to stay longer. However, being realistic at £99 for one night B&B, we weren't entitled to think of grand country house. The room was clean, had a comfortable bed but was small; it had a decent recently refurbished bathroom and a very comfortable bed with good clean fresh linen There isn't really a lounge to sit in - just a few leather settees in front of a rather ugly pretend coal fire. The dining room is in a somewhat clinical conservatory. Breakfast was generous and varied. We had opted to eat in the restaurant but it was sparsely occupied. The waitress (first day working at the hotel) also seemed to be operating the bar which leads off the dining room. We waited a few minutes before she came with a menu (there were only two other couples seated and they were already eating). No drinks menu came. We waited another ten minutes or so and saw no sign of anyone making an appearance so decided we would try our luck in town and left, ending up in the busy Bear Pub/Hotel which had a lot of staff on and where we were able to order promptly.

- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room was small only just the size of a double bed which was okay for our purpose as we did not spend much time in the room. The room and bathroom could have been cleaner, bathroom floor was dirty. Old building meant rooms above were loud in the mornings, but to be expected in an old building. Breakfast was good. In my opinion more likely to be a 3 star hotel.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Substandard room - Friendly helpful staff, food excellent.Room dirty.Shower glass had to be cleaned when we got there.Another room offered but only staying3 nights so had discount instead.Some coving off walls, mirror stuck on with blue tac which had moved.Bathroom floor by architraves dirty back of bathroom door dirty.Carpet dirty.Tv not working twice ,cable held together with tape.Fire instructions not on wall just standing up on beside cabinate.Were told all going to be refurbed so why is it still being rented out at £114 a night.

- John (10/5): Happy to recommend and would stay again - A picture postcard hotel with the most amazing views to the rear, which you can enjoy from the patio whilst having a drink. Lots of grass for dogs and kids to run round in and enjoy. Only downside was my bed was quite hard and the shower quite dated and small.
