Guest Reviews
- David (10/5): An unforgettable stay - The Elia Hotel and Spa is a special, wonderfully welcoming place. Our room was huge with a very generous covered terrace. There was very wide choice of food for breakfast, including a number of local products. We happened to be there on Easter Sunday when, instead of the normal evening meal, a magnificent feast was offered, at which we were joined by our hosts.
We used the swimming pool (though it was a little cold in April). There were also details of local walks.
- michael (10/5): Perfect serene, traditional getaway in the foothills - Perfect in all respects. Peaceful setting, over and above hosts.
- Laura (9/5): - we had a a great time in this hotel. the room was cozy, clean and had everything you need. also every room has a private seating area outside underneath the olive trees. we also had dinner at the location and the food was amazing. we also used the pool frequently. the pool was always clean, had a great size and the view was amazing.
They offered very nice options for breakfast. One of the employees also cooked at night and she was so kind and welcoming. she truly cared about our experience at the hotel. the owner of the property is not the friendliest person. we always felt a bit judged and she did not seem very engaged in running the business.
- Flora (10/5): - A beautiful place with great food, view and pool.
- Vee (10/5): - A beautiful location amongst the olive groves with spectacular views. A good place to relax and explore nearby hikes and restaurants. We did some lovely wine and olive oil tastings nearby. Breakfast was fantastic! Nothing!

- GIULIO (10/5): - Colazione eccellente. Struttura davvero curata nei minimi dettagli.
- AndrijaMilojevic87 (10/5): -
- William (10/5): Perfect to find mindfulness, enjoy Mediterranean nature and explore Crete. - Everything was perfect. Easy to find, great location, amazing views, outstanding staff. Nothing.
- Daniel (10/5): -
- Louise (10/5): Perfect - The location is fabulous and the people are terrific. It is perfect place for an escape - stress-free - perfect. The views are amazing and the food excellent. Could not be better.
- Antonio (9/5): The perfect countryside experience in West Crete - This was a perfect location to wind down from a hectic year of work. Situated in the middle of a vast farmland on the mounts behind Chania, the location is a beautifully kept old farm that has been totally recovered with modern and comfortable amenities and a very good taste for decoration, while retaining the desired rusticity you need in such a place. The room was quite good and impeccably cleaned every day, with more than enough space for a week clothing and luggage. It included a large shaded balcony overlooking the landscape to the olive groves and a church in the distance. We dined once in the open air restaurant and had breakfast there every day. This was a real treat with a large selection of options ranging from eggs to tzatziki, cereals, Greek yogurt, and assorted pastries. Coffee, tea, milk and juice also available. All the staff was quite professional and friendly and were quite amused by my efforts to learn a few words of Greek. Our thanks to Monda and Maria and especially to Efi, the owner. The bed mattress was a bit too soft, my wife had trouble sleeping and was left with a sore back.
Grazie!
- Ruth (9/5): Totally relaxing - Location
Excellent breakfast
Staff very helpful
- Anton (6/5): - Pro: Remote and quiet location
Con: No WiFi reception / internet on our room, trails are not usable when it has rained a lot
- Polly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jannes (10/5): Exceptional - The hotel is a great location in the area to do different activities around Crete (hiking, visiting Chania, or to drive to a beach). The breakfast was the best we had in Crete and the host was very friendly and made you feel welcome. You have the option to book dinner. They serve delicious typical healthy cretan food. The garden of the hotel is a small paradise. You can simply enjoy all the flowers and wildlife, or relax at the pool with a great view.Very relaxing and refreshing to get out of the fast paced day to day life. Would recommend it anytime.
- Gulliver (8/5): Charming, laid-back and tastefully done-up - Beautiful charming old house and garden, surrounded by olive groves. Every room has its own little outside bit, in addition to the top terrace with the view you see in the pictures. Friendly staff, laid-back atmosphere, lovely pool with a view and it was still working and warm enough to swim in in late October. (No hot tub or anything like that though). Comfortable bed and pillows, beautiful furniture in the room. Powerful hot shower. We also very much appreciated that they made up the room every day. We were a bit disappointed with the breakfasts, having had high expectations from some of the other reviews on here. OK, but nothing really delicious.
- Timothy (10/5): Thoroughly enjoyable stay - happy to recommend the Elia Hotel as a place to stay. - Excellent hotel in a great location. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was good and all in all we had a great stay. I would recommend Elia Hotel & Spa as a place to stay. There was nothing I didn't like.
- Patricia (10/5): We have stayed at Elia many times before and will come again. A special place run by special people. -
- Liz (8/5): Good place for a peaceful holiday but make sure to book a deluxe room - Efi is delightful and very helpful with ideas of where to go, etc. The hotel is in a very rural situation surrounded by lovely olive groves. The view from the dining area (up steep steps) and from the pool area is stunning. Pool is lovely with hardly anyone there. Good breakfasts with plenty of choice. The standard room (which we booked) was really tiny and crammed with a lot of heavy furniture. The bed was very narrow and not adequate for two adults. Bathroom again very small indeed. Sadly the view from the room was into high trees and bushes making the room dark.
- Lisa (10/5): - Elia is la lovely hotel owned by wonderful hosts. The breakfast is plentiful, the view from the roof terrace where dinner is served breathtaking. The pool is wonderful too.
- Theodoros (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nils (10/5): - Eine super Unterkunft! Super sauber und sehr herzliche Gastgeber! Kann ich nur empfehlen! 😇
- Lisa (9/5): A lovely quiet rural hotel. - Breakfast was superb for such a small hotel. Location very rural so a car is vital. We had the small room (last one available when we wanted to travel), but it was plenty big enough for two with a good bathroom.
- Jacqui (9/5): Superb -
- Lynne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andreja (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jon (10/5): A Special Cretan Hideaway - When we arrived we were asked what we intended to do "Nothing" was the reply And we so enjoyed putting this into practice at this beautiful hotel. Such a special place with lovely staff, super food served in a very relaxed way, a little spa and excellent pool. Enjoy. Leaving.
- Santiago (10/5): Great place to get away from it all. - Clean. Quiet.
- Valentin (10/5): Parfait - Parfait
- Katerina (10/5): Peaceful and value for money place. - The swimming pool is amazing and not crowded.Feels like a private pool.
The location is very good if you want to visit many places in Chania and you don't want to stay close to the city.
Its a wonderful place to relax , disconnect and enjoy your holidays.
Staff provided useful information regarding places we should visit.
- Thanasis (10/5): Great experience - We liked the landscape, the room and the people working there!
- Anonymous (10/5): Were treated as VIPs, nothing too much trouble. Excellent romantic holiday. - Lovely secluded setting. Felt very special. Spa treatment was amazing. Lots to do and see but equally lovely just by the pool. Views outstanding. Nothing.
- Halstead (9/5): Superb -
- Tess (10/5): Elia Hotel and Spa is an absolute gem of a place to stay - we will definitely be going back. - This is a wonderful little hotel. The setting is beautiful – in the foothills of the Cretan mountains, this traditional farmhouse with pretty gardens and olive groves, is just a fifteen minute drive down to the coast. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and full of character, and every room has its own outdoor seating area. We enjoyed having breakfast and home-cooked dinner (if you wish) on the al fresco terrace, overlooking the olive grove and the Mediterranean beyond. (We watched the sun set every evening from the terrace.) But, best of all was the warm welcome and all the help we received from Efi and her staff - nothing was too much trouble.
- Catherine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Virginie (9/5): Superb -
- Alexandre (10/5): An amazing place and an amazing team - Efi and her team are very attentive. The view, the place and the food are amazing. Efi is always avalaible to give you some good advice for your trip and your visits Just stay 4 nights ;-)
- Susan (10/5): The Elia combines the best of old-world hospitality, a beautiful setting with a top-notch staff. - The breakfasts offered an array of local delights from fresh-squeezed orange juice to homemade pastries. The sitting areas for enjoying breakfasts or an evening cocktail were lovely and private, surrounded by gardens. Likewise, the dinner on the upper terrace with a mesmerizing view were carefully prepared and reasonably priced. We often had the pool to ourselves mid-day and the staff couldn't have been more helpful all around. The upper terrace would have been transcendent were the lighting a little more subdued...either candles, real or electric or more mellow lighting rather than the overhead, harsh and cold lighting would have added greatly to the experience.
- Arnaud (10/5): Elia is a perfect place to stay! The hotel is beautiful and the hosts are very nice and helpful ! - Very nice and calm and peaceful location on the hills with a great view. The service is great. The breakfast is delicious. I definitely recommend Elia Hotel to anyone !! Nothing ! Everything was great.
- Maria (7/5): Good - the property is very nice, the pool is big and amazing view. The breakfast terrace is super nice and great view too. The staff is super friendly! The room for 2 we got didn’t even have a balcony or a big window. The nights were super hot in the room because it only had a tiny window and not even ventilation in the toilet. Outside was nice temperature in the evenings but in the room was extremely hot.
- Ana (9/5): Superb -
- Tristan (10/5): Peaceful, relaxing, charming, friendly. A must stay. - The whole property was beautiful, it was traditional but with everything you need for a modern stay. The mezzanine for dinner was spectacular and we loved that you could take your breakfast anywhere. The rooms were well equipped, functional and felt very authentic to Crete. The beds were very comfortable and we liked the daybeds / sofas too. We used our private terrace a lot and enjoyed coffee, cards and wine there. The 10 week old kittens were an added bonus!
All the staff were all very helpful, kind and went above and beyond to make our stay exquisite. I enjoyed chatting to them and getting their wonderful local insight.
They accommodated our dietary requirements really well and the food and local wine was great.
The property was serene and we particularly enjoyed being amongst the olive groves.
- Dallas (10/5): Exceptional - Delicious Breakfast, excellent service, Quiet, rural location
- jackie (10/5): - Elia is a beautiful and peaceful retreat, staff are so kind.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Really lovely place located between olive trees. Can only be reached by car. Good food and atmosphere.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Views, garden and location fantastic. Staff very very helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - What a great find. Secluded, quiet, very relaxing. They also have a beautiful pool, which is not mentioned here on Expedia. This place is NOT easy to find. Google Maps and Apple Maps both had me going in the wrong directions. There is a small sign on the road that I happened to spot and turned off there...down a very old, narrow, unpaved country road for a couple of hundred meters. I thought I was lost again until I saw the parking lot with a sign pointing to reception.
- Denis (10/5): - Second time visiting, and will return again next year . Fabulous location , very friendly and helpful staff.
- carolyn (10/5): Ultimate relaxation - Wonderful hotel, very relaxing, fabulous food.
Definitely need a car but great places to explore
- Alexis (10/5): The way all hotels should be - We stayed at Elia for our honeymoon and the experience could not have been nicer. Its a gorgeous out of the way spot in the hills that combines authentic Cretan charm with a comfort and level of care appreciated by foreign travellers. The food, views, pool, spa/yoga services and general hospitality were all fantastic.
If we had any criticisms, it would be that our room and balcony did not feel very private: the room was directly over the outdoor breakfast tables so opening blinds and windows felt like being overlooked. We also shared a balcony with a couple who were akways on theirs smoking cigarettes. Perhaps the hotel could consider adding a partition so that guests with adjoining balconies can enjoy more privacy.
Overall, Elia is a gem and we will definitely return one day.
