Guest Reviews
- allisonwilcox (4/5): First you have to find it... - This "B&B" is in a condominium building which appears to have been divided into pseudo hotels on various floors. This one is on the 3rd floor. It took us quite awhile to find it. We booked through Agora and thus had pre-paid the room which we were NOT told did not have air conditioning. The daughter of the owner was extremely kind and moved us to a room with a window unit so we could sleep the one night we were there. It was clean and quiet. The operation though is clearly an after market patchwork of rooms in what probably was a large apartment at some point. The "breakfast" was some prepackaged rolls. It was a step above a hostel, which is fine if you're young, but did not suit us at all, particularly since we had just stayed down the street at the Astoria, which was total luxury relative to this, and not for a significant price difference.
- Asim81White (6/5): Not a bad place but could’ve been better. - I would say it’s an average place to stay and for the money that we have paid you can always find better options!
The room was clean and large but nobody was there around 10.30pm when we needed them! I mean you’re checking in a hotel room in different city late evening that you’ve never been and you can’t find any water in the fridge! I’m not really sure whether the fridge was working because didn’t check when I saw it empty! The location is ok, clean and comfortable bed and nice showers but you could make this place better with a few simple things. Better breakfast and drinks in the fridge would get you at least 4 star reviews!!!
- Chris318i (8/5): Nice appartments nearby the city center - Nice appartments/room very close to the center of Genoa. Marina and her family are really nice, they welcomed us warmly and provided us a lot of information on Genoa and the surrounding area. Our room was spacious and totally sufficent for my wife, two kids (2 and 4 years old) and me. Unfortunately, as a consequence of Coronavirus, breakfast is not provided anymore. However, there were some snacks and also a coffee machine in the room. The location of the appartments is quite good, everything (train station, supermarkets, shops and restaurants) is in walking distance. Last but not least, the WIFI is working good.
To sum it up, we had a great time and we would definitely stay at Palazzo Gropallo rooms again.
- DaisyFay19 (6/5): Friendly receptionist but a few caveats - The positive aspects: the receptionist Emmanuella was warm and friendly and an asset to the B&B. The Palazzo itself is convenient to transport, about 5mins walk from Brignole Station. The room is in a lovely old building, with a quirky lift. However, there were a few issues which need sorting - first of all, there's no mini bar as advertised and the fridge didn't work(I noticed another reviewer mentioned this, so it hasn't been maintained) In addition, there was no air conditioning in our room, so it was strikingly hot and hard to sleep.
Emmanuella made a great cappuccino for breakfast but I was disappointed with the food - lots of pre-packaged biscuits and cakes. In a city famed for foccacia, it would have been good to have had some fresh bread or at least a few cornetti.
Perhaps we had a poor choice of room (No 5) but I feel this place could really do with some improvement.
- elmiruccia (8/5): Wedding party of friends - I came to Genova with my friends for wedding party. Genova is very beautiful and hotel was in the center of the city. Marina met us with a smile, it was what we needed after long day trip 😊. Room was very clean with balcony and beautiful view and everyday they cleaned the room. Marina provided us everything what we needed. Kitchen is very light and the breakfast was fresh and various. For my birthday the staff prepared surprise for me: there was wine with birthday card. It was so nice that they are so attentive for their clients!
- hannasethj (10/5): A great stay - We stayed two nights at the Palazzo Gropallo Rooms, and it was great in every way. Central, clean, friendly staff and beautiful rooms. They were also really helpful with the check out. We were able to leave our bags the whole day + borrow a bathroom to clean up and change before traveling.
- Smita200 (10/5): Comfortable stay - Situated at a great location, this accommodation ticked all the boxes. When we first arrived at the location we weren't quite sure what to expect. First there was this quaint old lift (fortunately in good working condition) that took us to a third floor apartment. The sprawling apartment presumably has been converted into individual rooms with ensuite.
The owners and staff were warm and friendly. The room and ensuite were clean. I would recommend using your own blow dryer (if like me can't live without one) as the one provided wasn't functional. The breakfast area is lovingly laid out with fresh selection of mini croissants on each table. As they cater for a small clientele the breakfast spread was limited. The city, restaurants, train and metro station, etc., are a stones throw from the accommodation.
- megankitson (10/5): Fantastic! - The room and ensuite were very clean and pleasant, and the owners were so friendly and helpful! Great location, only a 5 minute walk from the Brignole train and metro statio. Would definitely reccomend!
- Venezia09 (10/5): Great location and home from home .. - My husband and i stayed here for four nights recently and it was excellent. Staff superb and friendly could not do enough for you. Sucra in particular made us breakfast later in the morning as my husband has a heart condition and was very tired ... so thoughtful and kind. The train station is 5 minutes walk so its easy access to all neighbouring places we visited Santa Marguerita and Portofino ... stunning. Genoa is a lovely city worth a visit. A stay in the Grapallo Rooms will make your stay even better. Based inside a beautiful palace.
- adabok (2/5): Pls read this, your holiday can turn to nightmares - The place was nice and friendly staff, although we get a worst experience what a travellers can get. During the first night something probably a spider bite us both what ruined the rest of our week. I attached a picture please only check if you have a nerve for such a things.room number 6 definitely need an investigation!!
- ellielucy15 (10/5): Could not fault this place! - Stayed here for 3 nights over the bank holiday weekend and could not fault this place! The staff that run the hotel are all super friendly and very professional - we were helped out with restaurant recommendations and visited Osteria di Vico Palla on the first night which was a delicious meal! The room was very clean and breakfast was yummy. It was also an easy walk to anywhere within Genoa city centre (and also surrounding areas such as Boccadese). Thanks for your hospitality :)
- bunnareep (10/5): Very warm and comfy place - I stayed at the hotel for only one night and it impressed me a lot, so that I had to tell others.
In addition to good price and good location, the room and bathroom was very clean and comfy. Staff (sorry I did not catch your name) was very nice. I got a lot of her smiles. And breakfast was very very good.
Besides, the hotel building was such a Genovese unique style.
Worth a visit this city and stay at this hotel!
- benfost42 (10/5): Nice place to stay in Genoa! - Lovely place for a short stay in Genoa. The staff are very nice and the hotel is nicely fitted out in a rather grand building. The room was comfortable and the breakfast was an ideal start for the day with the highlight being great coffee. The hotel s situated close to Genova Brignole train station and is only a short walk to a supermarket and restaurants. I would definitely stay again!
- dortheb772 (8/5): Home away from home - Nice staff, very welcoming, professionel and kind.
My room was a single room without bathroom, towels are in the room. Good size, I liked the balcony and the view, very clean.
Bathroom, was located just outside the room, and is shared with 1 other room, I never met the other guests as it was free to use when ever I nedded it. Bathroom very clean, new towels during the day.
Breakfast was lovely, served in a beautyfull room, and every day freschly baked croissants and cake, free coffe, cappucino thee or what ever you would like to drink.
Air con, in the room would have been nice. Next time I would chose a room with a bathroom.
Free Wifi was a bit slow.
Gropallo is close to city center and train station, everything is within walking distance.
Nice to know, before you reach the elevator there are steps.
I will be back <3
- 320barbaraw (10/5): Wonderful Genoa - We stayed for 3nights, owners and staff were wonderful, couldn't have been more helpful. Accommodation was superb would have no hesitation in recommending to fellow travellers and cannot wait to revisit, travelled with by train from Siena and hotel was within walking distance from Brignole train station and local buses.
- jari667 (8/5): A nice place to stay - The staff is very friendly and helpful. The B&B itself isn't big but it's quiet and cozy. The price is also quite fair.
There are three different hotels in the same big building. It may sound confusing. Although, the staff gave me instructions beforehand and it was very easy to find the B&B.
The location is OK. Not in a city centre but not far away either. Walking doesn't take too much time.
Breakfast was very tasty. It included for example croissants and cappuccino. A lemon cake needs a special mention here.
I found the B&B a nice place to stay and I would go there again.
- N8292DEsarahb (10/5): Great value for the price! - My friend and I stayed there for one night and we don't have anything to complain about. The stuff was very friendly and helpful. We got great recommendations for dining and also got help with directions if needed. The room and the separate bathroom was clean and nice. It is well located. As well the breakfast was really good. They even serve you nice Italian espresso.
Well, we had problems finding it but now that we know where its located, we'd definitely go back!!
- debsreategui (10/5): Perfetto! - We stayed three nights, all perfect. Marina, who runs the place is super friendly and she helps you with anything, she told us what to do in Genova and where to go to eat (Il Genovese👌🏾).
The rooms are clean and tidy and the breakfast that she serves everyday is fantastic! You won't want to go home!
- jamielevien (8/5): Very pleasant - Pros:
a) Beautiful hosts - super friendly, lovely personalities. Had a few bespoke requests, nothing was too much trouble. Keen to share info about Genoa and Italy too.
b) Comfortable rooms, nice soft bed.
c)Decent location.
Con:
Backs onto a trainline. Not a problem between c.12-5am, but an issue for light sleeps like me either side.
- azazazanna (4/5): Via Gropallo 4, 16122 Genoa Olaszország - We got the room number 1 and 5, they mixed up the keys so if we don't figure it out it by mistake we could't leave the room as at nights there's nobody here from the staff. Try to avoid room nr. 5 especially in the summer as there's no air conditioning and there is only a common bathroom where you have to push a button constantly to have water for showering. Besids the bidet there was a pond of water. The fridge in the room was warm and there was only one garniture of towels (we booked the room for two). One bed is soft like hell the other is uncomfortable and hard. The only thing we can mention positively is that the room was clean.
