As a ‘senior citizen’, staying solo, I was made to feel most welcome and like part of the family. The cook & housekeeper, Aziza went beyond the call of duty to cater to my mealtime and domestic needs…even being thoughtful enough to pick up the clothes I had washed & hung out on the roof, when it started to rain.

Everyone is so welcoming and kind, it really feels like a home away from home. My favorite spot is definitely the terrace. super chill and the perfect place to relax, meet great people, and have interesting conversations. The Wi-Fi is strong and works well in almost every area. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a friendly and comfortable place to stay.

Now, if I may add a tiny suggestion: everything was perfect… except for one small thing " no bidet shower in the bathroom. " Let’s just say, my right hand and I reached a new level of friendship! - Judit (8/5): Very good - Large dorm, close to medina, for the price even the breakfast was included, which was good. Nice German volunteers were working there. 1. Maybe it is different during summer, but in December the building was extremely cold. Maybe the hostel could consider buying at least one heater and heat one room, for example the "nomad workplace", so people can go and warm up before returning to the 10*C cold rooms. 2. There was beautiful sunshine on the terrace, but the wifi is not working there, so if you want to work, you should sit in the freezing cold building. 3. Anytime you want to reenter the building, you have to knock on the main door. If someone hears it, you get lucky and be let in, otherwise you can stand there for long.

I think it may be my favorite spot in Fes :) Staff was really nice, you also have the option to order something to eat at the hostel, which was quite convenient as I checked-in quite late after a long journey from Marrakech. You should bring your own lock and towels. It is a pity that the breakfast is offerred starting at 08:30 when most tours leave at 8 am or if you are going somewhere for a day trip. The tours offered by the hostel are quite overpriced.

- Mendia (5/5): Coldest nights I had in Morocco - Good location The AC didn’t work, it was so cold at night. I booked a trip to the desert for two nights and three days with them and they gave me 2 different prices in the booking messages and ended up charging me 20-30euros more than what they wrote me. They couldn’t tell me the itinerary, and I had to call them when I was in the desert as they wanted to bring me to Marrakesh after just one night.
- Shakila (8/5): Budget friendly option for a calm stay that checks all the basics - As a digital nomad I have come around many hostels all over the world. So here a more detailed review from my perspective as a female traveler, on a budget, working during the trip. Some feedback on categories that are most important for me: Location: The building is in a quieter residential area of the old town. The cab dropped me off quite close to the hostel which was a plus because I did not have to carry my luggage very far. But you will have to walk about 15 minutes and find your way through the labyrinth of narrow streets to get to the market area of the medina where the action happens. Wifi: The ground floor has a dedicated work area and it is possible to work in the main lobby as well. Wifi is okay. I had several video calls and there was typically one disconnect of a few seconds during each call, other than that it worked. Showers: The shower was hot, clean and with great water pressure. There were no towels. Rooms: I stayed in the 3 bed female dorm. The room was nice and spacious enough with stained glass windows and blinds that completely blacked out the room during sleeping. Design: There were many of the typical colorful design elements. The building is not necessarily super stylish but it is pretty. Be ready to go up a number of stairs depending on what room you book. Bed: I was assigned the lower bunk in a metal frame bunk bed. I received a thick wool blanket but the thing sheet that you usually have underneath it was missing. I was happy that I had brought my sleeping bag. The bed was squeaky and made noise anytime I moved. But there was also a sturdier bed in the room. There were power outlets right next to my bed, but it was missing a "reading light, outlet and shelf" installation that you may find in other places. Cleanness: the rooms, bathrooms, lobby and work area was always clean. Only the terrace didn't feel very inviting. Lockers: There were no lockers in the room and therefore no possibility to safekeep your... If I could change only one thing it would be to install some lockers!

It has a peaceful vibe and absolutely enjoyed my stay there. Morticia the receptionist was very welcoming and friendly even though I checked in at midnight! The breakfast was good. The localisation is great and there are coffee shops and restaurants close by. The taxi driver can drop you at 5 mns walk from the hotel but there are some stairs to climb. The rooms are large and not overcrowded by beds and I really hope they will keep it that way as it makes this place enjoyable. I actually had the best nights sleep in a dormitory in this hotel! The travellers I met were friendly and I visited the city for 2 days with one of them :) So I totally recommend this place and for that price it is unbeatable :) Nothing, everything was great :)

No keys or code provided to enable access to hostel when reception not staffed (i.e. after midnight before 08:00). Neither was a major problem in practice.

- Francisco (10/5): Funky Fes Hostel! Let me tell you, this place is so groovy, it'll make your bell-bottoms spin! - First off, can we talk about the absolute superstar of this joint? Ghita, the hostel's very own Wonder Woman, deserves a standing ovation! This gal works harder than a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest, and she does it all with a smile that could light up the whole darn medina! Ghita's so nice. Seriously, give this girl a raise, a medal, or at least a lifetime supply of Moroccan mint tea! Now, let's not forget about the head honcho, Lila the manager. She's got everything under control, from the spotless rooms to the funkiest decor. Lila's so cool, she could make an ice cube jealous! The vibe at Funky Fes Hostel is so far out, you'll think you've time-traveled back to the era of disco balls and lava lamps. The place is decked out in more colors than a bag of Skittles, and the atmosphere is so chill, you'll be tempted to kick off your shoes and stay forever. In conclusion, if you're looking for a hostel staffed by the grooviest cats in town, look no further than Funky Fes Hostel. With Ghita and Lila at the helm, you're guaranteed a stay that's outta sight! Five psychedelic stars all the way, baby! I liked everything

THE MOROCCAN GIRLS RECEPTIONISTS ARE RUDE. IMPORTANT!! AT THE RECEPTION THEY DONT ACCEPT PAYMENTS WITH CREDIT CARD, AND THEY DONT RESPECT THE BOOKING PRICE. THEY RAISE THE PRICE OF THE RESERVATION DUE TO THE EXCHANGE RATE WHEN YOU PAY, THEY ARE NOT HONEST.

- Mou (1/5): THE PRIVATE ROOMS DON’T HAVE WIFI. - If you are traveling for work, I don’t recommend it, because the WIFI does not work in the private rooms on the terrace. I don’t understand why they offer a service that they do not have, the wifi does not reach the terrace, it only works in the reception area and on the first floor. The bathrooms in the private rooms don’t have a door, it’s uncomfortable because you have no privacy, it’s also full of COCKROACHES and all the smell and HUMIDITY of the bathroom invades the entire room, it is unpleasant and you cannot sleep. I definitely don’t recommend it!!

- George (10/5): Helpful and friendly staff - The staff in this hostel are so welcoming and friendly. It was in a perfect place to get everywhere in the old city and if you wanted to go into new city the taxis were super cheap. Beds were comfortable and shower was great. The air-conditioning in my room didn't work but the girls gave the room a good fan which did help massively considering how hot it was there 😀.
- Reign (10/5): Exceptional - The property is in a nice neighborhood with many shops around to pick up necessities. Plus it is a very easy walk to all the tourist spots and some off the beaten path places. The rooms are clean with comfy beds and probably the best pillows I’ve had at a hostel. The same goes for the bathroom. Strong hot water, clean and spacious and attached to the room which is nice. Then the cherry on the cake is the people who work there; Leila and Malak with their friend and the volunteer make it such a lovely place to come back to after a stint of exploring. They are knowledgeable about the area, helpful beyond belief so far as helping me to extend,and offering tips on what to do and as well so fun(truly the people make the place !) While they have an ac room I was in the one where it wasn’t working. While it was hot they offered a fan and I was still satisfied with the stay

- Grade (2/5): It was very disappointing I’d stay at another hostel - Good location Honestly really disappointed in this place, they didn’t arrange a taxi for me even though it was requested, tried to up the price of the tour, and then cancelled it last minute. Then I woke up covered in bug bites so they might have fleas or bed bugs.
- Mou (1/5): THE LOCATION IS FAR FROM TOURIST PLACES. - NOTHING The location of the hostel is too far from the city center, far from tourist areas, even from the famous blue gate of Fez, the hostel is in a nasty place, around dirty and dark streets, at night it is dangerous to walk alone to the hostel, because you can smell the hashish that people smoke on the street corners near the hostel. The breakfast is simple, water with tea and some dry breads. It’s impossible to sleep in summer because there is no air conditioning in several rooms. The 2 Moroccan women working at the reception were very rude with their behavior and arrogance with tourists. There was no toilet paper and hand soap in the bathrooms. The WIFI in the rooms on the terrace does not work. On the terrace you often see cats and that is why the whole terrace smells like cat urine. I really do not recommend this hostel.
- Ka (9/5): Superb - The location is good. The staff are super nice and helpful. The room is clean and comfortable. Good breakfast and beautiful interior design. The air con is broken at my room and it is a bit hot at night.

The staff here are the kindest sweetest humans who go above and beyond to accommodate for all different styles of travellers, they are so patient & considerate with amazing hospitality skills! I’m so grateful to have met you all! The showers are the best showers I’ve had in my whole time traveling (3years in hostels) hot water also available and good pressure. Thank you for making fes so magical and memorable for me! Laila & Malek your heart is so big, I appreciate all of your effort to make this hostel feel like a home 🤍🙏🏾 I highly recommend. .
- Michal (8/5): Very good - Breakfast was really good, the stuff very helpful, location very nice although not that close to all the sights in Medina. But an amazing view from the terrace and a really good "hostel vibe" The bathroom wasn't clean, the toilet didn't flush.

- Chandekar (6/5): Definitely funky! - Great location, nice interior design, good breakfast. Funky vibes! Booking didn’t exist in their system so we were split up and put in different rooms (including 2 people sharing 1 bed). It took them a while to sort this out. Power went out in one room so we had no lights. They did bring us candles which was nice. Lack of toilet paper and soap was not great. There was also some blood on my sheets. Some power sockets didn’t work.

- Danny (1/5): Bad - The private bathroom for the dorm room was spacious. The building was well maintained, but the managers were mad. Another hostel owner (competitor) didn't know why Funky Fes is falling behind from the "BEST in Fes". Here is the reason. The manager Yashi and Farris were rude to guests. They wanted another job, or they revanged for low wages through bad customer service and scaring and kicking customers away. They can be sleeping anytime of the day, day-time or night-time. No body is at reception desk. But then criticizing guests for waking them up in working hours. Yashi shouted at me at 8AM for making noise and waking him up (Yes, it was 8AM). I was grinding coffee beans with my manual grinder. Yashi scared me and the other guest in the common area. I didn't know that he was sleeping in the "work space" next to the Common Area. There was a "no eating, no sleeping"sign in the workspace. He was so angry and agressive, but again, without logic. He said "you paid so little", and "this is not your home!" Later the guest asked me, "what the f* is going on?" Is it the lack of water and food in Ramadan? Did they watched too many movies over night? I have seen 2 fights outside Funky hostel on car road. People are mad in the neighborhood. I visited the police station at night and filed a report against Funky Fes. In case I may be phyiscally harmed, or lose my belongings.

The vibe in the hostel was calm and chill, cool people, good breakfast included + nice terrasse to chill. I would definitely come back, especially if I am looking for a place to stay longer time, where I can calm down and escape the busy Medina .

- Anthony (9/5): Overall, a wonderfully artistic hostel with a great rooftop. - Wonderful breakfast, very great staff and overall a good hostel. Great wifi and they have a separate room for workers as well, which is nice. Paid for dinner at the hostel the first night and it was fantastic. (Was hoping to have it the second night also but it was not offered, unfortunately). Room was on the roof, and not the greatest, but for the cost it was perfectly fine :) FANTASTIC Artwork throughout It was a very safe area, but not much staff presence on the main floor (and the front door remains unlocked during business hours). Everything else was great, though

Staff is very friendly and always ready to help with anything you might need, very affordable price and a very cozy hostel with everything you might need during your stay.
