Guest Reviews
- Stewart (10/5): - Very good food staff could not do enough for you parking easy small double room but very clean
- Raymond (10/5): - Small room above the pub/restaurant but clean rooms and a great location. Great for a night or two. Great food.
- Jim (10/5): - Free parking, very nice bar, excellent food but above all the staff were lovely and appeared to be a great team who loved working there.
- Kenneth (10/5): - Portpatrick is stunning and staying at the Waterfront is the perfect choice. Great staff, excellent value. Highly recommended
- Ronald (10/5): - Room in the annexe. Comfortable bed...decent shower. Lovely breakfast. Great value
- George (10/5): - Great breakfast, attentive staff, reasonable accomodation and on the harbour promenade .
- Ranald (10/5): - Great location, room a little tired but fine for us. I was really upset to see that the beautiful blue painted exterior of the hotel, that made it stand out, has been changed to grey!
- Christopher (10/5): -
Adequate size room for a few days stay, in a lovely quiet location with a good view of the harbour.
Enjoyed the breakfast and we also the meals when we ate there one evening.
- James (2/5): - Our room was not in the hotel and we were put into a small room in an adjacent house, the door was very difficult to lock, one window wouldn't open and the other wouldn't close so security was an issue, very unclean and rundown, mould every where in the bathroom. We had called and emailed ahead well in advance about booking a table for evening meal as there was a Vegan in our party and were told that it was no problem, there was only a vegan lasagne on offer which we believe that was a frozen ready meal and the home made curry tasted like a ready meal also, the portions were small and did not reflect the price they were charging. We refused to even go for breakfast after the dinner the previous night. Needles to say we did not stay another night and will not be back. Port Patrick was lovely though, we managed to get a booking at another hotel close by which was wonderful and enjoyed the rest of our time there.
- Anthony (8/5): - Good little hotel. Nothing too fancy. Nice size room . Shower and sink a tad small but does fhe job. Breakfast and evening food good but plenty of other places to eat as well.
- Alan (8/5): - A lovely view of the harbour from our room.
You get what you pay for. Shower room a bit small but its what they have refurbed and only thing that would fit
Not a lot of staff but lady who checks you in, serves behind the bar, takes and serves food orders for dinner and breakfast is amazing.
- Mrs Karen (8/5): - The waterfront and staff are lovely. Parking isnt so good. Great stay with lovely harbor walks
- Alan (10/5): - Good stay , clean comfortable room , lovely breakfast, excellent location
- laurabC6189ID (10/5): Meal and drinks - One of best meals ever had! Large portions, reasonably priced, good value. 100% freshly homemade. Batter perfect on cod. The lager was fresh and crisp. Great service and made welcome. Highly recommend. Nice relaxed atomsphere. Will definetly be back!
- Venture34313947970 (10/5): Remarkable Hotel - Yes the bedroom was small, but don’t let that put you off.
I made a minor hiccup which meant we had to stay in the Portpatrick hotel. The waterfront was excellent compared to our 1 night stay there.
Reasons for this
1. The staff, they couldn’t do enough for us from the minute we realised my mistake. They were friendly and helpful, going above and beyond what they needed to
2. Breakfast was cooked to order and was amazing especially the haggis. You can even build your own breakfast and increase the size. Was one of the best breakfast I’ve ever had
3. Clean and excellent location
This hotel definitely rates 5 stars
- Mobile33848943806 (4/5): Thumbs down to Waterfront and staff - It was a beautiful windy sunny day and I fancied a basic sort of snack lunch and decided to sit inside in the bar due to the high wind
I ordered macaroni and cheese with chips
I was asked to pay for this when ordering which I did albeit I explained to the bar lady that this was not correct and I was entering a contract with the establishment
The bar area was fresh and clean
When my meal arrived it was excessively hot and probably microwaved !
There was no evidence of a beschemel sauce just melted cheese and the chips were not fully cooked correctly albeit they appeared pre-prepared.
At the base of the dish there was li fat only
I pointed out to staff my disappointment in the quality of food as poor —only response was that they would advise the chef !!! About the chips and that extra cheese is used on the macaroni
No offer of financial recompense was offered and did not wish to make a fuss
Most disappointing and next time in Portpatrick my business will be to another establishment
Very poor standard of food and customer service —most disappointed and certainly atrocious value for money
- Marlene (6/5): - The rooms are the smallest we have ever experienced, especially the bathroom. The photos on Expedia are misleading as they are for a family room not a room for two people. It was like being in a closet. Our first room the bed was old and uncomfortable. The manager and staff were helpful in changing our room to one that was upgraded with a new bed. We booked a king size bed but it definitely was smaller.
The location is great-right next to the water.
If you know the room is very small and you’re ok with that then it’s a nice place. We felt like we were in an airplane trying to pass each other in the room.
- Jeanette (10/5): - Staff friendly and very attentive. Room clean and view over the harbour was brilliant. Breakfast excellent. We were lucky enough to park across from the hotel. Shower a bit small and pressure not that good but did the purpose.
- Kevin (8/5): - Great location on waterfront, staff are superb especially Lauren who was super efficient and friendly, bed was comfy and room (6) was nice and clean. Breakfast was outstanding, full Scottish was freshly cooked and really tasty.
The en-suite bathroom in our room however was ridiculously tiny, so cramped that it was impossible to sit fully on toilet as legs hit against pipes under sink. You could reach from toilet to switch electric shower on as it was that close.
Water pressure was so low shower operated at a trickle and you had to step out of bathroom to have enough space to dry yourself but cold tap on sink was so powerful it sprayed water all over the bathroom.
Overall, staff were brilliant but the place needs an equally talented plumber!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Hotel was in beautiful town and right on the sea in the harbour, very nice rooms recently renovated. Breakfast was delicious. Staff were friendly and accommodating.
- William (4/5): - I had booked a classic room with king sized bed, pictures looked good. Arrived to find we weren’t even staying in the hotel but a cottage offering the smallest rooms I’ve ever stayed in with a shower and toilet in a cupboard. Place needed a really good clean, double bed was two singles pushed together, one had a wonky spring. Communal area in need of a good clean too.
- John (8/5): - Nice clean basic room but had stunning view .Will definitely go back
- Kaghend (4/5): Very poor service - Decided to try a lunch at The Waterfront as we'd enjoyed an afternoon drink there the day before with beautiful views of the bay.
We ordered a very simple lunch of prawn wraps and then sat outside with a drink. After half an hour my husband checked with the bar as we were still waiting on our order and it wasn't busy. We were told it would be ready shortly. After another 15 minutes the waitress came to tell us they had no prawns.
Good stuff. We got a refund and went nextdoor to The Crown where we had outstanding mussels served within 15 minutes. Well worth paying a little more for outstanding food and professional service.
- james (10/5): - Had a great stay in hotel and really friendly staff and food is amazing the location is amazing and parking just short walk away
- Alan (8/5): - Excellent overnight stay, nice breakfast and dinner. Great location. Staff excellent, bar did not cater for my needs as no gluten free beer on tap or in bottles.
- Andrew (10/5): - Nice wee seaside hotel, getting renovated just now..never caused any issues whatsoever! Lovely food very nice staff...good value for money!
- Edward (8/5): - Loved the location! Our room had a view overlooking the harbor. Some remodeling going on but did not disturb our experience.
- Charlie (10/5): - This two-day break was perfect. Although the rooms and bathrooms were quite small, the space was cleverly utilised. We were fortunate with the beautiful weather, which allowed us to enjoy hiking along the coastline before retuning to sunset dinners. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the room was spotlessly clean.
- pistol144 (8/5): First Time to Portpatrick - Nice harbour front hotel. Quiet, clean and tidy. Room 8 a little snug especially the shower room and could do with some small repairs here and there, which they seen to be working on. Friendly and attentive member of staff at breakfast, food was good.
- Kamila (10/5): Great place to stay! - We were nicely suprise by the accomodation and hospitality! Highly recommending for a short break.
- lindac840 (8/5): Lovely 1 night stay - Best thing about our 1 night stay was the sea view. Amazing. Couldve sat and looked out at it all day. We had room 2. Room was pleasant enough but the bathroom was very small. The electricity was of when we got to our room but maintenance quickly fixed it. Breakfast was amazing. Very enjoyable
- Dean (10/5): - When we arrived the staff were very helpful, and although we had arrived a couple of hours before check in, they advised us that the room was ready and we could drop our luggage off. They informed us that the car parking is anywhere in the public parking area, and there were plenty of spaces directly across the road from the Hotel. The Hotel itself is right on the Waterfront, although the name may give that away, and there is an outside seating area, to enjoy the sunshine with a few drinks from the bar. Some renovation work was ongoing in the hotel, but this did not affect our stay. The room was small but comfortable and the bathroom whilst very small was well thought out in the space allocated. The bed was comfortable, allowing for a good nights sleep and the shower was powerful. Breakfast was the usual mix of a cooked breakfast, along with a selection of cereals, yoghurt, bread and pastries, the cooked breakfast was very enjoyable and filling. We also had a meal in the restaurant one evening, the menu was extensive, and the quality of the food was very good. All in all a very nice stay, with friendly staff and we would definitely return in the future. .
- Alfred (10/5): - Staff very friendly food very good nice quiet hotel would use again
- steph27Scotland (4/5): Disappointed - I have stayed here before with no issues. We had room 12 in one of the cottages. The room was ok, bed clean but needs a new base looking tatty and big stain on side.
Now the bathroom is small, but I know this. The smell was horrible, the flush button was broken, and it badly needs mildew on tiles and shower. The shower wasn't working there was no power so of course no water. I did say to girl at breakfast and said she would send maintenance. After breakfast, we'll shower, still not working. I asked for the manager but not at the hotel. I left my mobile number but no contact, this is not acceptable from a hotel manager. I'm sorry but a shower is a must!!!!
Breakfast was fine no complaints.
- lisadutty91 (6/5): Travel along way expected better - Just returned from our stay.
As many have mentioned very small rooms with a very small bathroom
Very basic, tv tea coffee and sugar, hairdryer.
We took the dog with us, stay was from 3 nights but left early.our choice!
There is no hanging space for clothes, only a coat hanger with 5/6 coat hangers
Not ideal, really
The bathroom was the worst. I couldn't have a wash due to a glass shelf being in way too close to the sink. You hit your head.
The door opening the rood was stuck. You had to shoulder push the door, so it was not ideal as this could cause injury.
Staff working were very polite and lovely.
In an evening, a few local young people in the bar area(friends of staff), whichever put you off going in the bar.
Would I stay again? I'm not sure.as I think a lot of changes need to be made to make your stay more comfortable.
Breakfast is very nice.
- Hayley (6/5): Port Patrick always a beaut - Stay every year in PortPatrick & this year booked a seafront room thinking would be better. Apart from the views it really isn’t.
Building work in the room next door which disturbed my Sunday afternoon. Dogs are allowed to stay and one dog opposite my room didn’t stop barking!
The loud noise on Sunday after in the bar below was terrible, I really though a fight had broken out, the language was disturbing.
I’ll be booking Harbour again next year or Crown, as the waterfront is in poor condition. There is some work going on. However my room wasn’t very clean (wasn’t dirty) just didn’t feel fresh. Bed sheet just constantly came off as it was too small!
The bathroom is a disgrace!! The size is ridiculous for a more expensive room! The mould in the shower cubicle. So dated and far too small for the price.
The shower water pressure cannot be described as pressure as there was none! Like trickles coming out!
The hairdryer is dated and again no pressure. Gave up trying to dry my hair!
- Peter (8/5): - Nice peaceful stay not the room on website but comfortable enjoyed
- Neil (6/5): - Hello, let's be fair, the property is in need of updates it's being done which is great it's not done over night possibly get it done then open after a shut down, it's a difficult situation l guess family and staff are great and they have not owned it long , fair prices and great food and drink so good luck with the updates, especially in the showers, and with water pressure without a pump on the top floor....
- Mark (10/5): - Lovely stay and for price with an excellent breakfast provided , room on smallish side but for the price it’s exc
- Amanda (10/5): - Amazing hotel lovely room comfortable bed staff lovely and very welcoming food lovely great stay
- Derek (10/5): - Very accessible. Breakfast is great. The staff were very obliging and the sea views were tremendous 👏 👌 👍 Oh, and the room was excellent.
- 612busterb (8/5): A decent no fuss place to base yourself in the area. - We read the reviews and we know some folks can be unduly harsh so we decided to see for ourselves for our wee Christmas Break. Firstly we needed a dog friendly hotel which the Waterfront is. (To clarify, food is only available in the bar area with a dog but that wasn't really an issue) - the hotel is as mentioned in some reviews undergoing some renovation / decorating, smell of paint through the stairway, and this is forgivable too. Our Bedroom is small but big enough for us - theres some hanging storage and a tv. Kettle etc. . We had room 6. Bathroom is VERY small. It says on the website small so were were forearmed but when you can barely sit on the toilet because the sink is in the way... we werent expecting that... Also, the Toilet seat was loose, getting dry after a shower had to be done in the room as no room in there without elbowing the walls, doors etc. We've had motorhomes with small bathrooms so we made it work.
We stayed 3 nights and not once was the room serviced. No fresh tea/coffee, no making the bed etc. This was the main negative we had. We shouldn't have to ask.
Food - wise, breakfast was very good, and enough choice. The young girl who served us was sweet and very nice. We didn't eat an evening meal in the hotel or use the bar (except to have our dog Friendly breakfast) so can't comment on them.
December is off season so pretty reasonable for 3 nights.
We're hoping the transition goes well and the new owners / management have lots of success, as far as servicing the rooms : We hope they take note, it makes guests feel looked after and if they are going to supply tea/coffee making facilities, please top them up daily. Would we come back? Of course, those little niggles didn't spoil our trip and the area is beautiful.
- Kathleen (6/5): - En suite far too small, sitting on toilet with legs up against wash basin, couldnt bend down when brushing teeth bathroom door right behind you, shower cubicle to small couldnt bend down to wash feet. Breakfast served wasnt that warm, only white bread for toast. We payed for two nights but left after first night.
- Michelle (10/5): - Booked for a last minute weekend that also had to be pet friendly and luckily we found The Waterfront. The room itself was clean & spacious with a great view (ensuite was small but they warn you about that) and breakfast was one the nicest I've had in a hotel. As for the staff, they were so friendly and helpful especially when we checked in late.
- Paul (10/5): - In a stunning spot, the hotel staff were great and couldn’t do enough.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Stay was excellent. Great service, great food, great staff - very friendly. The hotel is undergoing refurbishment - a working progress. The room was cosy and the bed very comfortable, a little tired in the ensuite, sea view more than made up for this - what’s not to like. Excellent value for money. Will return. 😊
- Passenger14159401155 (10/5): Lovely friendly little Hotel - Hotel and bedroom were very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful would recommend this Hotel, the bedrooms are quite small but well designed and have everything that you need we stayed for two nights Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd October and really enjoyed 👍👍
- Thomas (6/5): - Breakfast was poor and selection of wines only served some wines by the bottle went next door and got it by the glass
- Joan (8/5): - Loved my break here with my partner and wee dog. Had to cut it short though due to circumstances.
Our room which appeared to have been recently refurbished was lovely and immaculate. Loved the wee shower room which was so fresh.
The staff were extremely helpful and extremely nice especially Lynsey.
Only gripe here is that there was no matress protector on the bed but I'm sure they will put that right ASAP.
Will definitely be going back.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Best value for money hotel i have ever stayed in.
Thanks everyone.
Joan
- Delena (10/5): - Nice cozy room. Located right on the harbor.
- HairyFifer1970 (8/5): Weekend Away - This place has recently been taken over, is a work in progress, but still is a great wee place to stay. Great location, great staff (Lindsey was a star), great food. Most of all in this current economic climate it is very reasonably priced in all aspects. We stayed here for two nights whilst down for the Wigtown Book Festival. We ate and drank here too. Rooms are small (especially the en-suite) but they are clean and tidy and great value for money. Already looking to go back on a motorcycle trip! Many Thanks to all there.
- Lynne (8/5): - To be honest the bathroom was too small and the toilet didn’t always flush, took time to fill up!
- Angus (10/5): - Lovely stay
- John (8/5): - Staff were so nice food drink were good value for money.
- Cumbriafoodie (2/5): Stay in the hotel next door. - Booked the hotel and only discovered upon our arrival that breakfast wasn`t included as part of our booking....we went without.
The sockets in our room were off and power wasn`t restored until 8am next morning. Apparently a circuit breaker had tripped. As a result we had no kettle , no tv , no bedside lights and no phone charging available. We had to take our chargers into the pub next door to charge up.
No apologies or discount for the lack of power in our room.
The room was clean enough but the bathroom was so small that we had to dry off after a shower in the bedroom. There was barely enough room to sit on the toilet.
Food - The Menu wasn`t good , a lot of fried and American style food. It`s a blooming fishing port , fresh lobsters and langoustines , mackerel and many other stunning fish were being landed literally over the road.....no excuse.
We dined at the pub next door , masses of amazing seafood , great beers and a lovely atmosphere.
My tip for anyone visiting Portpatrick - Stay in the hotel next door , The Crown Hotel.
- gerard (10/5): - Very pleasurable
- Maureen (8/5): - The property was in a very central location ,beautiful views and the food was lovely and plentiful.
- F4268WWkimberlyh (2/5): Long wait! - Terrible experience at The Waterfront. Booked for Dinner at 7.30. We were a little early so sat seated and ordered around 7.30...no starters just main meal, asked for things not to be included in meal waited 45 mins for food and food came with all the extras we asked to leave. Food not great left most of it. I know they were busy but no excuse really.
- David (10/5): - Lovely, self contained room. Less than 100m from the Sea
- suehE4414EC (2/5): Very Disappointing🤯 - I really could not recommend to anyone.
Port Patrick itself is a find, quirky and full of characters. The hotel was extremely disappointing and I do not know how they have the gall to charge so much when it seems to be in some sort of transition. I could not decide whether the owners were doing it up or they had had really bad decorators in who had left the job half way through. Either way travellers should not be expected to pay for sub standard accommodation.
The staff were lovely and welcoming but the food, room and surroundings were ghastly.
Our room (room 5), had a cupboard for a bathroom with so little room it was a joke.
- John (10/5): - Bedroom clean & bed very comfortable, view was great (Room 5) on top floor overlooking the harbour. Staying for 2 nights. Had meal on 1st night and was very good. Fish and chips and steak pie. Beer garden on first night was very pleasant not so good next day (cold and windy) breakfast was delicious and friendly service from young lady. Compliments to all the staff for friendly service. Shower room on the small side.
- mart888 (2/5): Stay elsewhere - Do not stay here....
Firstly I do not normally leave bad reviews, but there are times when it just has to be done, this, unfortunately is one of those times.
Lets start with checking in. The reception area and foyer were a mess, boxes everywhere, untidy. Not a welcoming site.
We got our key quickly enough and went to our room. It had not been serviced correctly after the last occupants as we had to head back downstairs to get toilet roll and tea! The furniture in the room is old and needs replacing, it felt very tired. The en-suite bathroom was something to behold, a more fitting description would be a cupboard with additions. It measured 2m by 80cm, cosy is not the word to describe it. It does say small on the hotels website, but this is tiny!
The carpet on the stairs would appear to be new, and it looks like some decoration of the walls is taking place, i hope they have not paid to have this done as it is appalling.
The breakfast is not too bad. The tables are bare so you have to get your own cutlery and condiments, is it too much trouble to have laid tables? Cooked food was OK, although the bacon was rock hard, we asked the following day how it was cooked, baked in the oven! so we asked for ours to be grilled, which they did and it was fine.
At that first breakfast we were asked if we needed new towels, which we did not. However we left the 'please service room' sign on the door to get clean cups, teabags, milk and have the bed made up. It was not done.
At breakfast the following morning we asked for the room to be serviced, towels and the works. Left the sign on the door again, when we got back from a long day out it had not been done. We went to reception and had to ask for towels, cups, tea and milk. The apology was a throw away 'sorry about that' and the staff sitting the bar did not seem to care less.
The pictures of the hotel on its own website and on tripadvisor do not represent the hotel as it is now. They appear to be from 2018 at the latest, when i would suggest the ownership was different to what it is now.
It may be undergoing updating, if it is it is greatly needed. But bite the bullet, close for a month and do it properly!
The few staff we saw did not seem overly interested in what they were doing and certainly lacked enthusiasm. On checking out we were not even asked if everything was OK!
My sincere advice is if this is the only room you get get in Portpatrick stay in another town.
- martin (2/5): Do not stay here - Checking in.
Reception area and foyer were a mess, boxes everywhere, untidy. Not a welcoming site.
Room.
Not been serviced correctly after the last occupants. No toilet roll or tea!
Furniture in the room is old and needs replacing, it felt very tired.

It needs updating.
Breakfast OK, but ask for bacon to be grilled.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Do not stay for a quiet break - Door did not close unless locked as it had been smashed in along with the front door to the building, didn't feel safe. Very drunken guest in and out of their bathroom (with loud friends trying to keep them safe) outside our door, crying shouting being sick etc, this was throughout the night. No way of calling reception in room so couldn't notify anyone.
Room run down, window didn't open etc.
Breakfast and staff were good though
- lesley (6/5): - Staff friendly. Room clean but small, ensuite smaller. Breakfast slightly unorganised as had to ask for bread ,sugar and plates. Great poached eggs.
- Gillian (10/5): - We had a lovely nights stay here. It’s in a great location. The only negative was that I had booked a table for 8 through hotels.com and when we got there the booking wasn’t there even though we had an email to confirm. Luckily we managed to get a table so all was ok in the end .
- I2095DZwendyw (4/5): Not as states. Disappointed - Beware The website says all rooms are en suite. They are not. We were given a small room in the annexe with no ensuite facilities. Our room was very uncomfortable twin beds, nothing like the pictures shown! Our toilet was on the outside landing next to another room and our shower downstairs! The only upside was a staff member who tried to change our room, without success. We got a free drink instead. The bar area is tiny and staff mad busy with people. Breakfast though very nice, made to order from a good choice. Disappointed with our stay, wouldn't come again 😕
- Jamie (8/5): - Apart from extremely creaky floorboards hotel room was lovely loved the location staff were friendly
- allan (8/5): Short break - The hotel was clean. Service was friendly and good. Dinner was good as was breakfast. Room 6 is a cozy small room with nice sea views. Although the bathroom is a bit small.we had only booked one night, but it would be ok for a longer break
- William (8/5): Picturesque seaside village - Hotel is perfectly placed in the village. Staff were friendly. Room was a bit dated but clean enough. Shower room was very small and was probably a converted cupboard
- Cornelia (8/5): Lovely place! - Just one night stop over - off the ferry. Surprised by the distance between ferry and hotel (20min) as the address given on the website was Stranraer - but it actually is in Portpatrick. Fantastic view from the room!!!
- LeeDenmark (2/5): Put your money elsewhere. - Positives:
Location, The fish & chips, and breakfast was very nice and the staff on site were friendly.
We got 10% knocked off our bill due to being served moulded bread for dinner.
Negatives:
Generally a run down and grubby hotel. Room 6’s seating covers were dirty and not a place I put my clothes or sat.
The windows were embarrassing filthy (could otherwise have had a lovely sea view) (zoom in on the picture).
The bathroom a joke - built in a small cupboard - or so it seemed - and the drainage in the sink was terrible.
The mattress was old and tilted and we ended up with sore backs as a result.
Our toilet took roughly 30 minutes to fill up after using it. And it was a very loud process as well. We told the staff when we went down for dinner and came back up to a toilet that couldn’t fill up or flush at all!
In the hallway someone had broken a glass of beer at nighttime and the broken glass (and smelly carpet) was still all over the stairs in the morning.
But the absolute worst was, that when my friend from another room politely made them aware of things to consider fixing - and deliberately not doing so publicly like a review - she got a 9-10 point childish and defensive answer (from the manager we presume) instead of simply saying:
“Thank you for making us aware of this.”
This is NON ACCEPTABLE as paying customers!
Furthermore, I have no interest, nor will I waste my time reading what response this review will get!
My advice: Stay next door or anywhere else. There’s loads of places to choose from.
- Lynn (8/5): - We were at front of hotel with harbour view , room was adequate, nice king size bed, although was not the room I saw in photos when choosing room.
The staff were pleasant although service could be slow .
At one point staff member came into our room , without knocking, after we had checked in etc and then asked if we had a key for our room , surely they should have checked if guests had arrived?
Some parts of hallways have areas unpainted, carpet was loose on staircase.
However this is a budget hotel and is reflected in price we paid.
- 716hazeln (6/5): Beautiful location, needs a little attention to detail! - We stayed for a night before catching the ferry home from Cairnryan! We were allocated room 18 which is in a small cottage at the side of the hotel, so we had our own front door! The room was small, not a problem, but would benefit from a little attention to detail.. the shower door was off its rail, some areas of the bathroom could be cleaner, the fan and behind the heater!
However the beds were comfortable, and the room was clean. I wonder if some of the issues are a result of staffing levels… when we arrived… the girl who checked us in, was also the barmaid and serving in the restaurant!! She seemed to be doing all the jobs, and all credit to her, she was pleasant and helpful throughout!! We had a meal in the restaurant, which was lovely, but took ages to get served… 1 girl doing most of the work!
Breakfast however was an experience… a buffet style affair, not helped by some guests, piling there plates, and not leaving much for others, so we had to wait for more to be served…the chef seemed to be working alone, so maybe that was the issue. We had to figure out the coffee/tea machine ourselves!!
The food itself was fine!!
This hotel is in a beautiful location, on the seafront, which with a little attention to detail and adequate staffing levels could be a wee gem!
- colquhounr (2/5): Don't eat here - Luke warm glooppy tasteless mushroom soup out of a packet! Don't eat here. Won't be back. What more can I say.,,................,....,......................................................... .............................
- Colin (8/5): Nice aspect - Great view from my room which was excellent, breakfast also nice in the morn.
Only issue I had is that room was cold at times and there was no way to control the temperature.
- Stuart (8/5): - Perfect location and room had a sea view. Other reviews referenced the small en-suite bathroom and it is very small, but it works and had a lovely hot shower. The restaurant was ok for dinner but vegetarian options limite. Breakfast was ok and cooked to order but no vege options apart from removing all meat based products
- Chris (8/5): - It was a bit old fashioned
- Alex (10/5): - Lovely hotel good food and very friendly staff. Would definitely stay here again.
- joanne (8/5): - Room slightly roo small. Hard to get in and manouvre round bathroom
- Luidgardo (8/5): - Had a good stay at the Waterfront. Building is a bit dated and in need of refurb but the cleanliness and staff were great. Breakfast was quite good. The only downside is the shower that kept going off while showering and the creaky floorboards in the room. Would probably stay again if in the area.
- garsimm (10/5): Great stop - Used for stop over before ferry. Great place I’ve been before and it’s safe parking although on the street . There are a few wee bars in the town and the food in both is good.
- Mike (8/5): - Staff very helpful
- Derek (6/5): - Loved area didnt like hotel room.Wind blowing in window, Shower inop,Heating on timer
- Davie (2/5): - Room was tiny, bathroom is so small, you have to fill the kettle with a tiny cup.
- Nick (4/5): - We booked a superior double room with a king size bed to discover it was 2 single mattresses pushed together, the restaurant was closed we had to go to the sister hotel for breakfast which we were told we would have to be there for 8.30 am because they were fully booked breakfast was an extra if we hadn’t took that booking we would not have got a breakfast which we had paid for with our booking.
- Allan (4/5): - The room was warm and comfortable but the hot water was hit and miss. The internet didn’t work. There was a lot of apologies and the offer of a free drink with dinner. The restaurant was fully booked, no privileges for guests (and no free drink)
- Gordon (6/5): - It has a good location. The hotel is getting up graded so there is a building site next door
- Nigel (6/5): - The seafront location of the property was very good. We stayed in a cottage at the back of the property and this was querky. Would have preferred to meet a human rather than receiving letter with instructions/key to enter room. Room was a little tired but clean although the bin had not been emptied. The shower was only lukewarm which was slightly challenging in winter. Would have been nice to eat in the bistro but this was shut. Had a nice meal in the adjacent Crown Inn. Brisk walk to the Harbour House Hotel for breakfast in the morning - lucky to dodge the heavy rain. Overall enjoyed the stay but would probably better in the summer.
- Melanie (8/5): - Lovely warm room, wi fi?
- Verified traveler (8/5): Waterfront - worth a visit - Had a lovely time at the Waterfront. Hotel itself is clean and warm, maybe a bit dated but it’s comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Ate at the Harbour House hotel which was also very nice. For a couple of nights away we couldn’t have asked for better value.
- Alan (4/5): Will not book again - Having used the Waterfront before, I booked with them again, but on arrival there was a notice saying they were closed, but to use The Harbour Hotel. I was not informed at the time of booking they would be closed, so, I was not impressed. When I checked into the Harbour Hotel, I was given a double room instead of a twin, as I was working away with a collegue, this was not suitable. The twin room we were given was very small and freezing cold. As the room was B&B, we did not have breakfast due to an early start, When at the Waterfront, we were given a packed lunch type breakfast, but nothing at all from The Harbour, so, not impessed, will not book again.
- colin (10/5): Windy night in Portpatrick - Stop over before catching ferry, which due too bad weather was cancelled staff went out of their way to help and find extra accommodation.
Hotel is a delight ,food excellent, spotlessly clean, staff friendly very helpful.
- Rebecca (4/5): - Great location near waterfront, beautiful place to walk around and explore. Lots of free parking available. Room was nothing like the photos on the website, barely enough room to walk around the bed and other furniture, bathroom was barely functional and opened packets of shampoo were in the shower from previous guest.
- Frances (8/5): - Interesting and enjoyable stay. Room was a bit warm for me. Portpatrick was beautiful and brought back lots of memories of previous visits
- Maria (10/5): - Absolutley loved the location and the view. Gutted the windows were very dirty so we couldn't see much out of them but we loved our stay. Hickup with our food which was sorted no issue. Bathrooms tiny but had everything we needed. Bed was comfy enough, could hear the downstairs people and next doors pub pretty loudly but stopped at reasonable hour and wouldn't stop us coming again would just bring earplugs. Plenty of local walks, the locals were all friendly enough. Well worth the 5 hour drive! Will be back
- Jacqueline (4/5): - The property is tired and nedds some money to be spent on refurbishment.
- I W (4/5): Not what we expected. - Location perfect beautiful view if your at the front of the hotel...breakfast was ok..the staff were ok...although breakfast service was slow.
The room was very disappointing..very dated and shabby. The bathroom was a joke..if your any bigger than average size you wont fit in ! The cleaner gave us a toilet roll but never cleaned the room in are 3 night stay. Most of the lights didnt work the sockets were hanging off the wall. Some of the t.v. channels didnt work. The dining room and bar are lovely but they seem to have forgotten about the bedrooms. In desperate need of updating.
- Dennis (4/5): - Poky room riddled with cobwebs and second hand furnishings. Never seen polystyrene tiles on the ceiling of any property for a very long time. Overpriced big time! Unlikely to use Expedia as the experience is telling me that the company sells only the poorest rooms in the hotels offered.
- jim (6/5): - Room was small but comfy, sadly the en suite in a cupboard was a trial.
