Guest Reviews
- Christine (9/5): - Well equipped and clean. TV remote control didn't work very well (OK button didn't respond).
Oven needed cleaning.
- Toby (8/5): Enjoyable stay, will deffo be back! - Easy to find good location Some wear and tear of decor but nothing alarming
- Pete (8/5): - The location was brilliant and a lovely property to stay in Just could of had a dishwasher other than that is was perfect
- Alex (1/5): - Be aware that if you book a 3 bedroom house what you will be provided with is a 3 bed house with some bedrooms locked and unable to be used
- paul (5/5): - Beds were very comfortable Ensuite shower didn’t work
Difficult to sleep in small bedroom due to neighbouring house security light on ALL night - blackout blinds would help
- Sabine (10/5): Empfehlenswert - Schönes Haus, nicht viel Schnickschnack, ruhige Lage Das 3. Zimmer war abgeschlossen
- Rob (10/5): -
- Protan Elmark Sp. z o.o. (10/5): -
- Garry (7/5): - Good accommodation, used for a team working @ the Tatts sales. All found it very comfortable and a simple drive to and from Newmarket
- Jo (8/5): Ideal location - Perfect location for what we needed. Could come and go as we pleased The dripping tap, the noisy fridge freezer and boiler
- Jacqueline (6/5): Good for a basic base - Bit basic but not bad as a base for a few days.
On street parking can be difficult as it is situated in the middle of a housing estate.
Furniture could do updating as it’s rather tatty and some of it a bit wobbly. Property is for upto 6 people but only seating in the lounge area for 4.
2 good bathrooms and downstairs WC.
Nice big fridge/freezer if you’re planning on self catering.

- Jessica (5/5): - Was nice to have stuff available to make teas and coffees on arrival, and it was close to where we needed to be for a wedding. The whole reason we (myself and my separated parents) booked this place was because it was 3 bedroom, so each of us would have our own room. On arrival, we found the 3rd bedroom locked with a code. When we asked for the code, they gave it to us, but the bed in there wasn't made, so I ended up having to share a room with my mum. Not the end of the world, but really not what we paid £180 for. The place itself is also quite run down, with marks on walls/ceilings and stains on the carpets. The extraction wasn't working in one of the bathrooms either.
- Sharon (7/5): It was adequate for what we needed. - Good location, easy access to places where we needed to go. Parking was easy. The oven was not cleaned and was unacceptable. The company did apologise and sent the cleaning lady the day before we left which really was no use.
The double bed was not comfortable.
- Christopher (7/5): - The essentials were all covered and communications were all good. It was functional if fairly basic and a bit tired in places. The beds and bedding were good and the location great for the wedding we were attending.
- Paul (10/5): -
- Allison (8/5): Comfortable stay in a quiet location with plenty of parking right outside. 15 mins to Newmarket. Con - Comfy beds, and quiet location could park two cars right outside. En suite bathroom a bit grubby. No sharp kitchen knife to peel and chop veg.
- Graham (4/5): Disappointing - Location
3 toilets, 2 bathrooms
Parking no problem Property not cleaned properly
Mugs were filthy
Carpets needed cleaning
Towels provided were inadequate
Electric fan didn't work
2 out of 4 sockets in 2nd bedroom not working
- Nigel (3/5): House appears to have only essential maintenance conducted since it was built. Will not rent from this property manageme - Conveniently located for the function we attended.
Bedding linen and towels clean. Nothing done to make the property welcoming. Needs decoration throughout. Cheap flat pack furniture could be replaced cost effectively through second hand shops. Similarly knick knacks could be sourced to make the property more homely. Heating system locked down and not operating correctly. Daylight can be seen through crack in the front door! Needs complete overhaul.
- Amanda (8/5): Good value , nice area - Very nice comfortable house . Good communication , very quick response with the management company . Very good value . Well equipped . We stayed here a couple of years ago when it was newer , it is a bit more scruffy now . Could do with decorating . Carpet a bit stained .
- Alison (8/5): Very good -
- Sinai (10/5): Exceptional -
- Extreme (5/5): Passable - Lots of space and nice finish Hot water .... this is not good. It ran out really quickly, and sharing a house is not great.
- Andy (9/5): Superb -

- Cristian (9/5): Superb -
- Wendy (7/5): Good - It was clean. The beds were comfortable. It wasn’t well equipped, we had to buy a tea towel and a butter dish.
- Simon (10/5): Spot on! - A wonderful property with all the facilities you need. Entry was very straightforward and communication was excellent. Would definitely stay again if its available.
- Sharon (8/5): Very good - Location. Space in townhouse. Easy parking. Couldn’t get heaters to work. Had no hot water first day and night. Couldn’t figure out the dryer and host said to google it.
- Nick (8/5): Very good - clean spacious bads were awful far too spongy
- Ian (8/5): Very good -
- Jo (10/5): Exceptional - The house is ideally located just off the A11 and close to the local shops and takeaways.
It was lovely and clean and very spacious.
- Heather (9/5): Superb - Very comfortable, clean and reasonably equipped property. Quiet but convenient location would recommend
- Lesley (10/5): Great - Clean and tidy Location
- Nikki (8/5): Very good - Located just off the roundabout Dust/spiders. Musty smell on entrance to hallway/living area
- Kelly (8/5): A pleasant and comfortable stay. We'd recommend to others and stay again - The house itself was spacious and well kept. Little touches of toiletries similar to a hotel was lovely, and there was a great welcome pack with lots of information. There was also plenty of parking which is always a bonus.
The kitchen was well equipped, and the whole please was clean.
All in all, it's a very pleasant place to stay, and we would recommend to others. It was nearly impossible to get a taxi. Every company listed in the welcome pack would charge an extra fee because we were further out, and one had retired 15 years ago!
The showers could do with a descale too, and maybe some net curtains in the window for privacy. We had to close the curtains and put the light on to get dressed.
- Ray (9/5): lovely cottage, very & tidy. quite & peaceful area. Good value for money - none
- Frederick (8/5): Nice stay a Thistle cottage - Easy parking. 3 toilets. Clean and tidy. Everything you need. Small mains towels (needs bath sheets not bath towels).
Single bed a bit uncomfortable.
- Sarah (9/5): Superb -
- Nicole (5/5): Basic property stay - Property had enough beds and a kitchen. Also parking was easy. This was a bare basic rental. No extra blankets, pillows, etc. Things like paper towels in the kitchen or even salt/pepper weren’t provided.
It is clearly not well taken care of as evidenced by the mold/mildew in the vents, edges of bathroom.
The main reason for not liking the property was smell of smoke. That was the first thing our entire group noticed when checking in. Even airing it out didn’t help. And when I emailed about this, the property manager never responded at all.
- Doug (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful location and well fitted for us. Quiet neighborhood and everyone was friendly. Convenient to walk to the park, Nisa and a few restaurants. Very economical and in our price bracket. The beds were a bit soft for my wife and myself. Ended up using an air mattress for my.wife.
- Karen (10/5): Excellent home with excellent facilities. Good communication with the owner. - Clean, well presented and spacious. Nice area with lots of local facilities. Nothing
- Zoe (9/5): We were meeting old friends and the property was an excellent choice. - The location was good. The host sorted a problem with incorrect wifi information so that was fine. My only criticism was that liquid soap and a hand towel in the kitchen would be beneficial.
- Andy (9/5): Superb -
- Andy (9/5): Superb -
- Antonio (10/5): Exceptional - Every thing are good, near of Newmarket town, and shops. All are good
- Karen (6/5): Spoiled by lack of toilet seat. - Good location. Spacious for our needs. Clean and fit for purpose. It smelled of smoke when we walked in. The toilet seat in the main bathroom was off the toilet. I was advised they were trying to get a plumber but I can fit a new toilet seat as no real skills required. I had explained it was not fit for purpose for my mother in law who is 83. It wasn’t great advise to suggest she used our en-suite or downstairs as she goes to the toilet during the night.
- Martinez (9/5): Clean, safe and convenient - Location was perfect for our stay. Safe neighborhood. The accommodations were clean and we had virtually everything we needed for a week+ stay. I would definitely stay here again without hesitation. The master bedroom mattress is due to be replaced.
- Katharine (7/5): Good -
- James (9/5): Superb - Very quiet location.
- Corinna (5/5): Passable - The location the house was very spacious. Very clean. The mattress on the double bed was extremely uncomfortable and the springs very loud every time there was movement. We were not able to get any channels on the tv other than Netflix. We tried all the settings no joy. It spoilt our New Year’s Eve the only way to watch bbc 1 was using our phones to watch the lead up to the fireworks. The enjoyment of our stay wasn’t as good as it could have been because of those reasons.
- Dave (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tim (10/5): Lovely house. Ideal for a family or anyone at an event near by! - Near venue, clean, good shower, easy to park, good value for us. Oven could probably do with a clean.
- Julie (7/5): Good - Problems with tv and wi fi connection
No washing line
- Kate (5/5): Ideal location for visiting Newmarket. - Surprisingly spacious house for narrow exterior. Easy to park outside. Smell on entering property.
It had been cleaned well enough for a changeover clean but the whole property really needs a deep clean.
- Eileen (9/5): Superb -
- Catherine (7/5): Thistle Cottage. - Convenient for wedding location 2 dodgy chairs so people had to sit on hard chairs. Last people didn't wash plates and cutlery. Moth in the bed and rubbish under sofa and in draws. Front door had a hole you could see daylight through. Oh and cigarettes ends and stale pizza in flower pot was not nice .
- Mona (10/5): a once in a lifetime experience, we had the best vacation ever! - it was close to my daughter and son in law near the base. it was private and very comfortable. absolutely nothing, it was a great vacation and would highly recommend to anyone.
- Amandawoods152 (8/5): Was great as we were going to Newmarket races. Would recommend - Spacious house. Well equipped. Communication via Booking.com was very confusing. The company got back to me straight away. They were great.
The lights in the bathroom were far too dim -could barely see.
Carpets very stained.
- Lynda (8/5): Spacious home from home, warm, comfortable and homely. Would recommend! -
- Danielle (3/5): Luckily we were visiting family so spent most of the time out but I wouldn’t recommend staying here with young kids due - Great location! Short drive from Stansted airport There was a horrendous smell upon entering everytime, especially in the hall and lingering into the lounge - possibly stale smoke? So bad that it was catching my daughters throat and we spent most of the time with the back door/windows open when there. When I arrived home and opened the suitcase everything in there smelled of the same lingering smoke so ifs all had to be washed. Base level clean, oven still had crumbs upon opening and needed a deep clean but toilets/showers/fridge looked clean.
Lots of stains on the carpets, and yellow tinge on walls (I assume due to someone previously smoking for a long period of time?). If it wasn’t for the smell, it would of been an enjoyable stay.
- Bicknell (8/5): Very good -
- Andy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Duffy (9/5): Thistle Cottage - Clean and comfortable, great shower! Was able to relax and beds were great
Nice location for me as I was on business in Newmarket Only one thing if I'm being critical,
There was a funny smell when entering the hall which I presume is from not being lived in day to day, apart from that none,
- David (7/5): Good -
- Laurie (6/5): great location and comfortable house. consider dealing with smoke smell - promixity to park, grocery store and public transportation is a plus. the bedding and house were comfortable. bathrooms were clean. house was clean other than smoke smell, comfortable temperature, furniture and kitchen set up. extra chargers and UK adapter were very helpful. thank you The house smells heavily of smoke. after a 10 hour flight home, everything including backpack and suitcase need laundering, very bad smell. There was a note from a previous renter which makes me wonder if anyone was in the house prior to our arrival. there were spiders and webs in the corners of the bedrooms. might be good to open the house prior to visitors. I could not find a hair dryer so if needed, that would be something to pack.
- Maigan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Susan (8/5): Lovely house in a quiet area with good parking outside the property. - Easy parking, quiet area and lovely house. We would have liked some leaflets with info on local attractions but couldn't see any in the drawers downstairs.
- Margaret (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kimberley (4/5): Disappointing -
- Andy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Adriana (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Stephen (9/5): Highly recommended property. - Located in a nice neighbourhood Nothing to complain about.
- Alisonclaire (10/5): Privacy and comfort at an excellent affordable price. - All amenities were available and fully working if needed at Thistle Cottage; the whole house was very comfortable and clean making it a perfect choice for a short stay in the beautiful surroundings within easy reach of RED LODGE. The property was very easy to find and parking was also very good; the neighbours were very friendly and the local shops were also well stocked with items that were required. It is a very pleasant area to stay in and explore: Mildenhall was only a short drive away and has a host of good places to eat or, if preferred, takeaway meals to suit most tastes. Chippenham Park is also a must see beauty spot where you can peacefully walk amongst excellent acres of delights. A most green and pleasant experience in a lovely part of the U.K. It was sad to leave but fond memories were made during that short visit to Red Lodge and Thistle Cottage. This property will be recommended to friends and family should the opportunity arise in the future. Many thanks.
- Margaret (10/5): can’t wait to stop there next month - location very clean nothing
- p (8/5): Nice clean place - Nice place,
Bedding was nice and fresh for the price it was perfect.
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Great location for working nearby.
