Guest Reviews

- Aileen (5/5): Memorable! - Beautiful huge heritage building with stained glass windows, silky oak staircase, fireplace, verandahs. Good location in centre of town. Easy parking on street. Rooms need to be cleaned. Dusty and dirty. Ancient stiff, threadbare towels. Soap and shampoo dispensers empty. No controller for air-conditioning unit.

- XIAOCHUN (5/5): It's just so-so - The service staff were very friendly The hygiene is terrible, there's hair on the bed, and the whole set isn't clean with grease stains remaining
- Joanne (7/5): - Was fine for a nights stay

- Damian (3/5): Very ordinary, would not recommend - No breakfast however on their website they said they had dining facilities Should have been honest with their eating facilities On their website it has eating facilities however have not had them for 12 months, very dissatisfied .
- Brian (8/5): -
- JANICE (6/5): WAS OKAY , SHAME THE PUB DIDNT HAVE FOOD AVAILABLE 7 NIGHTS AND NOTHING OPENED IN THE MAIN STREET - THE LOCATION WAS GOOD AND CLOSE TO HOTEL AND BOTTLESHOP , WE FOUND IT VERY HARD TO FIND TAKEAWAY FOOD IN THE TOWN FLOORS COULD HAVE BEEN CLEANER IN THE ROOMS, WE STAYED 3 NIGHTS AND HAD TO GO BUY TOILET PAPER AND TEA AND COFFEE AS NOTHING WAS REPLACED AND DOORS DONT LOCK PROPERLY
- Robert (5/5): -
- Victor (2/5): Run down. No other place abailable in Charleville, so no choice other than to besr it. - Not a lot Toilet was filthy
- Mark (7/5): - Historic Hotel with an abundance of character, you really felt you were back a century or longer. I stayed in one of the original rooms on the top floor, very high ceilings and original fittings. I enjoyed the stay and slept well there. I didn't see the 'ghost'. I would happily stay there again. I had shared ablutions which was fine, but there could have been something more in the showers to put your clothing on while showering, just one chair for two showers.
- michael (8/5): Beautiful Old Heritage building great location short walk to the RSL club - Beautiful old building lots of charm Not much
- Wood (9/5): - Loved the history..the single beds and ambiance of the hotel Sad to see repairs of balcony and general building need doing
- simon (10/5): -
- George (5/5): - Location Rude staff.dirty room full of bug's.
Towels were as hard as cardboard and ruff as sandpaper.
No restaurant or breakfast as stated on booking
- John (6/5): - Staying in history
- Philip (9/5): -
- Ben (8/5): Great food, drink and service. For a pub stay it is on par with some of the best. Its location is central and easy to ac - Nice location and good service. Veranda access was great. N/A
- Isabel (3/5): Arrive during the work week to get a clean room. - Location was good and architecture of the building was beautiful. Bathroom was not cleaned prior to my arrival or during my stay. Balcony was not accessible directly from the bedroom but had to go down the hall to access it.
- Shawnee (10/5): -
- Ian (5/5): Apart from shared bathroom which I was fine with, all else was fine. - History of premises, large verandahs, location. Bathrooms were filthy. Painter in there during day which was ok but he rinsed brush in sink where I was to wash my face. Paint left there. No paper towel to dry hands. Men’s bathroom had no privacy for showering.
- Cherie Magey (2/5): Not great for the price - There was enough beds. Central location. Located behind the original building where there was rotting fruit, open bins, wet paint, green mouldy stagnant water etc. The towels were stiff as a board and had stains on them. The master bedroom didn’t have a light bulb. The mattresses were almost as hard as rocks (gave me back pain the one night we stayed). The toilet leaked urine contaminated water onto the bathroom floor so the rest of the unit smelt of urine. The shower gel bottles fell off of the wall. The table outside had a good inch of grime on it. The stench of rot could be smelt through the open window of the bathroom. We were required to park a large distance from our room to drag luggage to the room past open bins etc.
- Whitely (9/5): - The facilities are excellent, lots of little areas to explore. The staff are great. Great town too, plenty to do for a few days. The toilets and bathroom don't seem that clean.
- Gregory (8/5): -
- Kenja (4/5): Great location, leaves lots to be desired. - Great location, friendly staff Didn’t feel particularly safe travelling in a group of women, nighttime access and corridors outside rooms could do with more light. The dining room was stagnant and quite pricey, we chose to dine elsewhere so can’t rate the food. Shower could do with a clean and overall it’s a shame the building hasn’t been adequately maintained to preserve its history.
- Darren (6/5): The rooms are very rustic, but the hotel is great for a meal and a drink or two with pleasant staff - Location is great and the meals at the hotel are really nice. The shared bathrooms were pretty grubby.
- Ross (6/5): Great to revisit the Queen Hotel of the far South West Queensland - The history and nostalgia. The dining room food was excellent. We didnt get a chance to do the nostalgia tour but it looked like a lot of fun. It was great to be back for the first time in over 50 years when Harry Corones owned this gem! Staff were indifferent. wine list was very ordinary. At my request the manager let me get a nice bottle of wine at BottleMart next door and just added Margin, which was very fair and appreciated. We weren’t aware we would be staying in the little motel rooms out in the carpark rather than upstairs in the
Historic part of the hotel.
- Kelly (5/5): - Great historic property The water in the shower smelled terrible (triple room), the shared bathroom was unsavoury and there was no bathmat etc (single room), and there were no clear instructions on how to check out.

- Jacqueline (4/5): Have been staying here annually for years but this stay was SO DISAPPOINTING - Central location and memorabilia located throughout the hotel. Booked a room advertised with tea/coffee facilities, complimentary water, and off-street parking. While tea/coffee was provided, there was no kettle, parking was only available on the street, and no water was supplied (despite a sign stating local water may not be safe to drink). The dining experience was very poor—meals took a long time to arrive, some didn’t come at all, and the ones that did were burnt, with what tasted like packet potato, burnt peas cold chips and thick, gluggy gravy. Think Gordan Ramsay Hell's Kitchen.
- Hutchence (8/5): -
- Edwina (1/5): - A Dining Experience to Be Avoided
From the moment our party of fifteen, who had pre-booked a table for 7 PM, stepped through the door of Hotel Corones, it was clear we had made a grave error in judgment.
The service, or utter lack thereof, was a masterclass in incompetence. Despite our order being checked no less than three times, by 9 PM, a full two hours after we were seated, only five of our fifteen guests had received their burnt or cold meals meals. The rest of us were left to sit and watch, wondering if our food was ever going to arrive.
Then, there was the food, a series of individual tragedies that only added insult to injury. The "tempura" seafood basket, a dish promising a light, delicate batter, arrived heavily crumbed, greasy, and unpleasant. The accompanying minted peas were not just overcooked; they were burnt, a clear sign of a kitchen that simply did not care. The five meals that did arrive were consistently sub-par, an underwhelming and frankly disappointing offering after such a lengthy wait.
The experience was not just bad; it was actively unpleasant. It serves as a stark reminder that a restaurant is more than just a place to eat—it's an experience, and this was one we’d pay to forget. Save yourself the trouble and dine anywhere else.
- judy (3/5): Would choose elsewhere - Handy position Motel behind the Hotel was very dirty, towels very thin, very very basic accommodation
- Guest (8/5): -
- Michael (9/5): -
- Tracy (7/5): - Easy access One door had only a sheer curtain and when guests used the bathroom, the light came right through to my room
- Catherine (9/5): -
- Catherine (9/5): -
- Guest (5/5): Average but expensive - There was no breakfast provided. Most people were welcoming and friendly. Clean facilities. No breakfast to the rooms or in the hotel Hmm. Could not fill the kettle in the room as it did not fit under the tap, I ended up using a cup to fill the kettle. Meal are basic ie if you order veges with your meal you get Mash potato and peas. For salad chips and a finely cut salad. Tasted great but not appetising. I cut short my stay by one day and there was no refund for my room.
- Ruth (8/5): Excellent staff -
- YIDUO (3/5): -
- Colin (8/5): Great old hotel - Loved the verandas Not enough power points.Tea and coffee and a fridge is great
- John (3/5): Would not recommend - Old rundown Old & rundown
- Rob (6/5): -
- David (4/5): Overrated and upgrading needed. Cannot live on history alone. - Staff were nice and friendly The shared bathroom/toilets were terrible and in urgent need of renovating, 1 out 10. Rooms ok, 4 out of 10. Food was 6 out of 10. Beer out of the tap not cold enough.
- John (8/5): -
- Colin (4/5): Fabulous building dripping with potential. - Beautiful old building with interesting history in a perfect location, at a very reasonable price. Grubby. Gloom ruled with poor lighting. Unfinished dercor, as in, mirror not attached to wall, which also cried out for a simple print (or two) to enliven and some restoring paint. And cold as charity at night. A simple auto closing door to the balcony would prevent the 2C night air invading. Rather than economising on electric light. Simple insulation such as door closures may avoid the use of reverse cycle heaters.

- Guest (7/5): -
- David (1/5): Evitare assolutamente - Nulla Tutto nella presentazione della camera c’erano i servizi in camera ma nella camera prenotata erano in comune e nemmeno nei peggiori incubi non mi aspettavo una camera così
- Jacob (2/5): Very dirty - The History of the building
- Rosemary (6/5): - Comfortable bed, interesting history Blankets didn't fit the bed. Bathroom was dilapidated and not especially clean.
- Billie (6/5): -
- John (6/5): -
- Pellatt (8/5): Trip with my sister 💕 - Great vibe, history at its best.
The restaurant was great a bit pricey but yum. Staff awesome.
If you're looking for 5 5-star you're not going to find it here. BUT if you are looking for fun, quirky, historical just plain simple and great....this is the place for you. The street light and hall light shone straight into my room. Need curtains back for blocking out those lights. That's all.
- Esteban (1/5): -
- Helena (6/5): -
- Mick (9/5): -
- Alison (9/5): -
- Ameer (10/5): -
- Anne-Christine (6/5): - The staff was wonderful and we enjoyed the bar very much. The hotel has partly been turned into a museum which is ver interesting! The shared bathrooms are extremely dated and we could hear everything coming from the other rooms (coughing, steps, loud TV, communal kitchen).
- Karen (9/5): Atmosphere and History in the heart of town - The atmosphere of the pub is incredible. Such a beautiful, historic building. The big verandah to sit on and watch sunset was wonderful. Right in the heart of town makes it easy to walk everywhere. A minor thing was that we felt they were a bit understaffed. Of course it can be difficult to get staff. We were quite cold and asked for blankets but none ever came - a very minor thing.
- Michael (9/5): - Clean and close to facilities, we had a short stay.
- Guest (3/5): Not nice mice running around bar while we were eating - Cleaning
- Barbara (9/5): Excellent - Everything! The noisy guests not the staffs fault.
- Martha (9/5): Enjoyed our stay.would stay again - Lovely historic iconic hotel. We stayed in the units at the back which were comfortable and clean. Didn’t have to negotiate the stairs! Dining Room was closed when we were there. Would have been nice to fibd in the Dining Room.
- Kym (7/5): - The heritage The shared bathroom needed a good clean
- Penelope (4/5): Go and visit the hotel for the history but stay somewhere else if you want to be comfortable else - Location Cramped room - towels were like cardboard - doona was scrappy - facilities to make a cup of tea were poor and not clean - dinner from the hotel was very poor - precooked and poor quality- for the price we paid it was not value for money. While I know it is an old property, the everyday basics should be modern
- Steven (8/5): -
- MARIA (6/5): Beautiful grand building but needs new linen, repairs & maintenance. - Majestic big historic hotel with great tour we paid extra for. Needs better maintenance & repairs of timber floors. Also needs bedside cabinet with lamp & new grouting in shower. Shower taps are reversed & not labelled. Towels & blankets were old & worn out. Bathroom fan needs cleaning.
- Denis (6/5): -
- Collier (8/5): - Room was clean
- Cranny (4/5): Enjoyable but feels like it has deteriorated slightly since 2021 when we last stayed. - Loved the temperature of the showers and the proximity to town. The towels were extremely rough and uncomfortable to use. The motel was also a bit dirty (especially the floor around/under the beds).
- Tony (6/5): -
- Pamela (2/5): Book the motel NOT the hotel! - Their motel rooms are great and I can't fault them. However the hotel rooms are NOT what is shown on the website. The website shows light airy rooms. What I got was a room with no windows and NO bathroom. I went to the fellow who booked me in and was told "you booked a budget queen and that's what you got". I pointed out the booking form said a bathroom. He told me take it up with n booking.com. not his problem. However, we noticed there were motel accommodation next to the hotel. When I asked if they owned it I was told yes and for $50 more I could have a room there. We paid it and that room was most satifactory with parking right outside our room NOT in the main street in town where we had to leave our luggage in our car. Better communication. The room we were given was NOT on their website.
It was nothing more than a backpackers room with shared bathroom. However for $50 more we got a nice room in their motel.
- Shane (1/5): Terrible - Nothing I get it, it is an old hotel, but accommodation should be classified as a backpackers. No on-suite bathroom, bedding not washed, shared bathrooms are disgusting, water tastes and smells terrible, and the floors are so creaky you cannot get any sleep when people walk around.
- Joe (3/5): -
- Bindley (3/5): - The History of the Hotel was great. Upstairs was in poor condition, the bathroom was in terrible shape and wasn't cleaned everyday. It was very cold in the room even with the so called aircon.
- Guest (10/5): - No breakfast. easy to find, lovely old hotel.
- Jenni (6/5): -
- Douglas (6/5): Good place, but must stay in heritage hotel. Not the adj. motel - Excellent staff. Memorable building and bar. Enjoyed the historic tour Booking was in the adjacent motel, not the hotel. Rooms were sub par, for heritage hotel prices. Shower didn’t drain, flooded the bathroom
- Georgina (5/5): -
- Melvin (10/5): -
- Anthony (8/5): -
- Guest (1/5): Never again’ - There wasn’t any! It was a dump!
- Hickson (5/5): - Grand old building but fading No toilet paper in toilets for entire stay
Air conditioner worked poorly no heat
- Mark (7/5): Stay in the Motel section -
- Danna (5/5): Cheap room good bar. - Friendly staff, good meal and drinks. Squeaky floors! Heard everyone in the hallway and ours was so loud.
