Guest Reviews

- Eric (9/5): Really nice lodge conveniently located next to Gorilla headquarters - Really pretty lodge and rooms almost right next to the gorilla trekking headquarters. You could probably walk there easily but likely better to drive the 10 minutes.
The staff were all very friendly, especially the lady working at the front (Elizabeth?) who was so kind.
The room itself was really quite cool and charming, even if it's a tent sided space. The balcony with the view across the valley is stunning. It does get quite cold at night but they bring you hot water bottles to throw in the bed which made a huge difference.
Note, that if it's in the rainforest so everything will become soggy and damp, especially if it's raining, even if water doesn't get on it.
There is ample parking which will be filled up with safari vehicles each night. Every single person staying here is there for gorilla trekking, so they know the process very well. They have lots of things you might need if you don't have the gear. Gum boots, gloves, masks. Bring a mask with you as they aren't supplied by the trekking headquarters and they are mandatory. Having another heating source in the rooms would be nice. Something like a space heater or something, though that might not be feasible.
The wifi does not work at all in the rooms but is quite strong in the restaurant.
No other issues, we enjoyed our time here. It's perhaps a bit costly but you are paying for the convenience of being close to the trek. It doesn't get any closer than this place.
Do note, the road to the lodge is about 20 km of fairly rough dirt road. 4x4 is fairly mandatory, or having A LOT of confidence and experience if in a car. If your gorilla family is somewhere you need to drive to, the roads to reach those areas are quite bad and I would say impossible without a 4x4.

- 647lucf (10/5): Rushaga Gorilla Haven’s Lodge in Bwindi - We spent one night at Rushaga Lodge on our way to see the Silver back Gorillas
The staff was very welcoming and very much helpful
Without being a 5 stars lodge, (as we are deep in the country) the lodge and the room were very comfortable and clean
The view down the valley was amazing
Food was very good
Security was excellent
- Laura (10/5): El personal muy hospitalario, buena comida, no tenemos queja. -
- Meraki (5/5): Fairly ok - Location is good The booking doesn’t show lower rates on booking.com is for self camping, we were charged different rate at the property to get the rooms we thought we had booked
- 560pablol (6/5): Good, could improve some things - location excellent, atmosphere goog, rooms could be better ( bathroom nos working weel) , value ok, cleanliness good, no noise , good service, nice view
- alex (5/5): -
- frank (4/5): Bad experience - We are budget travellers, this hotel was the most expensive of our two week journey but we had the most bad experience here.
So bad quality for that price 1/ we had no electricity from 4pm till 9pm, so no wifi and no 4G connection
2/ the restaurant is far too small for all the rooms. We had to eat outside and was very cold
3/ pictures show a full swimmingpool, bit there was no water in the swimmingpool
4/ the starf was not friendly
- Melanie (8/5): Great location, good property that could be great. - Location was great! Very close to the Rushaga Gate for the gorilla trek. Staff were very polite and helpful. Someone even cleaned our boots after our trek. Room was clean, large and well stocked. Food was excellent for such a remote location and with a buffet style, no one should feel hungry. WiFi was non-existent. Could not connect in rooms, at office or restaurant. Manager not interested in this problem. Bathrooms are designed so that shower water runs all over the floor and collected in puddles by the toilet that did not dry overnight. Broken towel holders just left on windowsill.
- Auntie Mo (10/5): My exceptionally memorable and beautiful stay at Rushaga - The views are breathtaking and I was lucky enough to have a room with a balcony that overlooked the beautiful scenery. The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming (the hot water bottles were indeed much appreciated), as it gets quite chilly at night. See you all again very soon. N/A - Loved absolutely everything ❤️.
- Charlotte (8/5): Great location for Rushaga gorilla trekking - Very close to the park entrance for gorilla trekking (5 minutes drive), well decorated rooms, turndown service with hot water bottles - needed for the chilly nights), good food and friendly service. No mosquito nets and even though you are at higher altitude we did experience quite a few bites during the night.
- Suzanne (7/5): Expensive place to park your van for a night or two. - Unexpectedly close to the gorilla trek Not well set up for camping as claimed
- A3368MMdaniellel (10/5): Beautiful views and great stay! - We stayed here two nights while doing gorilla trekking and we loved this lodge! The room was spacious, clean, and the views were breathtaking!! We had amazing service and the food was great. Would highly recommend!
Grote zwembad was leeg. Vanwege lekkage, werd ons verteld. Kleine badje wel gevuld. Prima om af te koelen.
- Chiara (10/5): Molto bello - Struttura bellissima in tutto. Posizione top per ingresso a Bwindi Rushaga Sector. Cibo molto buono, staff super organizzato con packet lunch Acqua calda della doccia durata 2 minuti.
- TravelLovesMary (10/5): Great mid range lodge - excellent staff! - Great service at this mid-range lodge. Our room had a balcony overlooking rain forest with screen canvas panels (like a tent) on one wall of the cabin to let air but not mosquitoes in. Beds did not have mosquito netting - which you’d only need if you left the door open. Our room had a crib which was weird because I cannot imagine taking a baby gorilla trekking but good to know if you happen to be traveling with a baby. The crib DID have netting. The shower was very large and we did not run out of hot water. The lodge offered hot water bottles at bedtime but we declined. Meals were simple but delicious - they did a better job at accommodating gluten allergy than most of the places we stayed in Uganda. Staff was excellent - shout out to Blair in the restaurant. She was there when we got coffee at 5 am until we left from dinner at 8 pm - hard working but always friendly and helpful. One thing to note is that they do have a guest laundry service with drying service if you are staying more than a day. We tried to wash small items in the shower but they just didn’t air dry in the moist rain forest environment.
- Vilonel (8/5): great location to do activities from - Helpful staff with info re Gorilla trekking
Great location close to the Bwindi gate not always hot water for shower
- Rob (8/5): Really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were excellent. -
- emilykobito (10/5): Slice of Paradise in Rushaga - We had a great stay at the Rushaga Gorilla Lodge while traveling with Shadows of Africa! We stayed here for two nights and spent one day trekking with gorillas in the Bwindi Forest.
Our hotel "tent" was very comfortable and had all the standard amenities of a regular hotel room, with the added bonus of being in the middle of the jungle! Sleeping at night, my husband and I both said it was like we were in the real-life version of the "jungle" noise machine option! It was so peaceful listening to the birds and the sound of the jungle as we fell asleep.
The room had a restroom with a hot shower that had good water pressure, and there were toiletries provided as well - which was great because our airline had lost our luggage! The mattress was a little on the firmer side, but we still slept fine. The wifi didn't reach the hotel room itself, but that was preferred given that we were on an adventure in nature!
The main area where the dining room and bar area are was very nice and had a gorgeous lookout over the mountain and valley below. Our server during our stay was so kind and would make sure we were always taken care of, even if we were just relaxing on the patio and enjoying the view. A local community group of singers and dancers also performed on our first night there, and it was a real pleasure to hear them in a small setting. They also had handicrafts that we could purchase after their performance for reasonable prices.
Meals were very good and we had buffets both times for dinner during our stay! There was a fair amount of variety, and we had many choices for breakfast as well.
Because we didn't have our luggage, we weren't as prepared as we wanted to be for our trek, but the lodge helped us out and we were able to rent rain jackets and gaiters for our boots for very cheap.
This is a great hotel for gorilla trekking in the Bwindi Forest, and I highly recommend it!
- Cameron (9/5): Superb - The staff, the food and the location were all amazing. Super chilled and a great place to relax. Unfortunately the pool didn't have any water during our visit.
- andygK8583JE (8/5): Beautiful overlook over Bwindi - Great views. Had 2 beers-went back for 2 more but they only had 1 more cold
Steep deep steps down to room were difficult for me with bad back and hauling luggage. Clean. Good food good portions. Turn down service. Hot water bottles and extra blankets were great. Flexible with eating times. Made packed lunches for gorillas trekking
- bjkahansen (8/5): Fantastic View - The rooms are situated overlooking a jungle valley, many perched on stilts with a secluded feeling. A nice ambiance, but a bit dated overall. Our room tilted a bit as if the supports had settled on one end. Small water heater so don't linger too long in the shower! The food was excellent. Watch out for the stairs, as they can get slippery in the rain. A great base for gorilla trekking in the Impenetrable Forest
- Sightseer28931575357 (8/5): Great service - shame about the pool. - A great mid-range lodge run by Elizabeth who ran a team that provided a really good service. The views from our balcony and the restaurant/bar were amazing over the Bwindi Forest. A small frustration was that it makes a big play about the pool - but it was empty when we got there! The web site says that it is only a 10 min walk to the entrance to the park and the Gorillas. This is broadly true (perhaps 15 mins), however, when you start the Gorilla trek you need to have access to a vehicle to drive you to the start point of the walk depending on where the Gorilla families are (perhaps one start point may have been the gate, I don't know - but most people drove away). We had a wonderful experience at the Lodge and with the Gorillas.
- 70ava (10/5): An amazing place to stay - the room , the views, the service and the food - This is a great lodge just a mile away from Rushaga main gate. The place is excellently run by Elizabeth, who is the most accommodating manager we have met in Uganda. The cabins are amazing - excellently planned, very spacious and take care of your privacy as well as all you need from a place like that, The view are spectacular and the food is super tasty. The service is also excellent. All in all, an amazing place to stay and highly recommended.
- legg02 (10/5): Great stay in a beautiful location! - We stayed in one of the luxury cottages for 3 nights during our gorilla trekking adventure and (because we hadn't selected the accommodations) were astounded by how nice our room was! The room was huge and had 2 walls of windows facing a private balcony and the jungle. There were plenty of surfaces to lay our things down on and set our clothes/bags out on for an early morning start each day. The shower was spacious and very warm although the low water pressure meant that washing hair was a slower process. Plenty of soft towels were provided and every day housekeeping made them into a cute welcome back message for us. We enjoyed the food, and the restaurant staff was great about checking about your breakfast time each evening to be prepared for everyone's needs. Each day we got to pick our egg order and then fruit/toast/pancakes/sausage/cereal were available either buffet or a la carte. Box lunches came with a sandwich or wrap of choice plus a muffin, hard boiled egg, water and a juice box. Dinner each evening was preceded by a local dance performance that sadly we never had the energy to attend. You can visit a local Bantu village for more cultural experiences, it's right before the Rushaga entrance to Bwindi, so about a 4 minute drive away.
The staff was incredibly nice and upbeat, patiently going through breakfast options with travelers who spoke minimal English, cleaning dirty shoes from trekking, and generally being helpful. We were also able to rent gaiters at a very reasonable price, just be sure to have cash since this isn't billable by credit card like any other extras you might book (massage, drinks, etc).
Minor cons - The wifi is slow in the evenings when everyone is online (plenty fast in the middle of the night if you are still struggling with jet lag). The beds are a memory foam type material that developed a substantial body imprint during the night. Very comfortable to start with but not great by morning.
- Lidija (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent place to stay souranded by beautiful nature Nothing
- Alexandra (10/5): Rushaga Gorilla Lodge does a good job! - The variety of breakfast and dinner offerings were delightful, and we had the same waitress for all our meals who was efficient and pleasant. Our standard room below the pool was quiet, clean and roomy. Another table for luggage would be helpful as well as warm water/tea in the room.
- Susan (10/5): So glad that we chose this fantastic lodge! - Beautiful location, and our room was excellent - nicely decorated very private, with a stunning view. The food was very well prepared, and the staff all very friendly and helpful. Our server, Blair, was really professional, and lovely. Come on, Rushaga Gorilla Lodge! - your prices are competitively high, and we are also tipping a lot - yet you charge us for tea and coffee (except at breakfast)??!! Please change your policy and do what most other lodges do, and have help-yourself tea and coffee available all day. Tea and coffee are both produced locally, so please be gracious to your high-paying guests, and allow us the pleasure of freely available tea and coffee. Otherwise, your hospitality is outstanding - thank you!
- Priti (10/5): - Nice properly with beautiful green natural surroundings. Staff for dining were very slow. Buffet items were finished or cold when we got there and no effort to refill. Lunch only given choice of a la carte while others had buffet with lot of choice.Hans kept refusing any orders we requested as vegetarian including making a sandwich which despite explaining thoroughly he got it wrong.
- Carmen (10/5): Fantastic. The place was amazing and the people are really friendly. - I really loved the place, people and nature.
The staff was really friendly and polite. We were taken really good care off. I would really recommend Rushaga.
- Phil (7/5): Perfect base for Gorilla tracking - Location, Staff
- Andrew (7/5): Location for an overnight stay to see gorillas makes this a worthwhile hotel. - Location for gorillas is excellent. Food was very good. Rooms have great views. Staff were very helpful A lot of the property needs updating. Our mattress was awful. The pool wasn’t open.
- RJ416 (10/5): Incredible lodge with the most wonderful people! - We had an amazing three nights at Rushaga Gorilla Lodge, with specacular views of the Bwindi Impentrable Forest National Park. The lodge is charming and very well maintained, with extremely clean and comfortable rooms. The food is delicious and plentiful, and they had great vegetarian options for every meal.
The very best part of the lodge is the team working here, who took incredible care of us. From enuring our room was spotless and creating lovely towel and flower art on our bed every day, to making sure we had all the food and drinks we could need, to helping with our muddy post-forest hiking shoes and clothes, they made sure that we were comfortable and happy at all times. They even provided cozy hot water bottles on our way to bed, to help keep us toasty warm on cooler nights! We spent a fair bit of time in the main lodge using wifi and enjoying the beautiful setting, and Braire and the team made sure every moment was amazing, including supplying many cups of delicious Uganda tea.
We're so grateful for the incredible experience that we had and would highly recommendt the Rushaga Gorilla Lodge to anyone looking to stay in the area!
- Magdalena (2/5): Very poor - We had our own tent. Location is good if you track gorrilas in Rushaga. There is warm water in the bathroom. Personel is incompetent, especially one lady. She mixed up our orders for dinner and for breakfast. When I tried to explain her mistake, she was arguing. Seems that not everything is fresh (maybe too long kept in the fridge). Overall price for tent is to high.
- Julika (10/5): Overall, Rushaga Gorilla Lodge is an excellent choice for travelers, whether you prefer the comfort of their rooms or th - We had a wonderful stay at Rushaga Gorilla Lodge while traveling with our rooftop tent, and it exceeded all expectations! The lodge staff were incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. Even though we were camping, we were given access to the lodge’s excellent facilities, which were clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed.
The location is perfect for gorilla trekking, with the starting point just a short distance away. The lodge’s peaceful surroundings, nestled in the heart of nature, provided a perfect place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the area before or after an adventurous day.
We also appreciated the option to enjoy meals at the lodge – the food was fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. The staff were attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. N/a
- Karen (8/5): Very good -
- Gregory (10/5): - The staff was friendly and very professional. The area was the most beautiful I’ve ever seen.
- jimbobm2015 (10/5): Great location - A fantastic stay, exceptional service and clean rooms hot showers.
Ideal lodge for mountain gorilla adventure.
Very remote location to get to, yet views around the hotel and grounds are exceptional.
The staff all very helpful and friendly, gym, swimming pool small shop and bar within the grounds.
- Theodore (9/5): Superb - Amazing views and great location. The food is top notch and the staff is amazingly friendly and helpful.
- Y7064VYkarenw (10/5): Highly recommend this lodge. - Wonderful stay for two nights either side of our Gorilla trek in Bwindi impenetrable forest. Room was very comfortable with two sides canvas walls . The staff put hot water bottles in our beds which was welcome as nights chilly. Staff were welcoming and friendly and a group of ladies came and sang and danced a welcome for us. Didn’t have time to explore the hotel grounds which were lovely or to play on the huge chess game. Food in the restraunt was excellent. Highly recommend this lodge. Very close to start if gorilla trekking.
- Moutou (10/5): Amazing stay! Thank you to the wonderful staff! - Everything was absolutely amazing. The staff (especially Jennifer who took care of us during our 3 nights stay), the food, and facilities. Our bungalow was very comfortable. Highly recommended! N/A
- 377irenejk (10/5): Superb place at a great location, 10/10. - Superb place at a great location.
Right at the parks entrance, with views on the Bwindi forest. Very amazing views from dining area, as well from the rooms.
Clean and very spacious rooms, nice interior design, good hot water showers.
Very attentive and welcoming staff, very very tasty meals.
They were also always very punctual.
Would absolutely recommend, also the locals said it was the very best lodge around and always sold out :)
- ToniT1079 (10/5): Scenic Respite, Great Care, Excellent Meals, and Gorilla Trekking - The Rushaga Gorilla Lodge hugs a hill, part of the mountains, with sunrise and sunset views . 2 Cottages share a front porch space, with adequate privacy. The rooms are roomy with places to open suitcases, comfy double beds, table and chairs with Mountain View, and large bathroom with walk-in shower. Hot water is available within minutes. Excellent daily Housekeeping. Good toiletries. Access to rooms is by stairs, and not wheel chair accessible. Excellent quality meals either choice of 2 starters, 2 entrees, vegetarian options, and house made deserts. Breakfast options of eggs, omelets, pancakes, and eggs Benedict are ample along with many local fruits. John provided personal attention to all our dining and box lunch needs.
Local community dancers, drummers , and singers provide early evening entertainment for another touch of culture. WiFi is available in main area for dining, bar, and lounge. Signal is slow and weak, as expected in the mountains. All the better to enjoy the beautiful grounds, sitting areas, and fire pit. Manager Powerman heads a crew of extremely attentive staff including Elizabeth and our waiter John. Other staff, including daily housekeeping are exceptional! Massages and shoe clean up are available after the big gorilla treks.
- Mateja (7/5): Good - Location and personnel were perfect. Also accommodation is good, but the price for what you get is too high. The price is too high for what you get..
- mar0ka (10/5): All you need - Beautiful vistas, a number of accommodation possibilities, nice food, Batwa show that is just like the one in the batwa village. Coming back to the lodge was a welcome moment of rest and admiration of the mountains. The food was a buffet but nevertheless tasty. We stayed at a glamping tent which was a charming touch.
- Amanda (7/5): Overall I enjoyed the location and the room. - The room was part canvas and part walls with big glass windows with view out to the jungle, lovely big balcony and comfy chairs. So many birds. Close to gate of national park for gorilla trek. Unfortunately the bed mattress was old and saggy and not comfortable. Food at the restaurant was expensive. One pool was empty and the other dirty.
- Elien (8/5): Very good - Beautiful place where everybody is super helpfull and very friendly.
Thank you Nick for all the help! /
- Shannon (10/5): Overall enjoyed my stay. Staff were very friendly and hospitality was great! - Loved the location and the scenery. Absolutely loved their little touch of bringing a hot water bottle to you every night!! Made me all warm and fuzzy! Special thanks to Elizabeth at reception for helping me out with yours and transport and to Nico for his hospitality in the restaurant. I felt like having to pay 55USD for food ontop of the price of the room was a lot to ask for. It was very good however!
- paulz625 (10/5): Beautiful location near gorilla tracking! - Beautiful location near gorilla tracking! Amazing views of the Mountains. Really gets you in the mood for meeting gorillas. Comfortable room, delicious meals and friendly, helpful staff. Wish I could have spent more than one night! You even get a hot water bottle in your bed!
- charline (8/5): - Well located close by the Gorilla trekking experiences. Beautiful view on the forest. Friendly staff
- danielabB6678FI (8/5): Great view from the balcony, cold bed, poor food - The view from the balcony is just great, you have the entire Bwindi Impenetrable Forest at your feet. I sit in my wooden chair and listen to the jungle sound.
The service here is not that great, they try, but the menu was kind of poor. The villas are the main attraction for sure, people come here for the view, not for the food.
As it was cold in the room they places under the sheets a hot water bottle bag. the bed was 2m wide, the water bag was 20 cm in the middle of the bed :) anyway they have extra blankets, but it's not comfortable.
But you are within a distance of just 15 minutes’ walk away from the gorilla tracking starting point. The resort is build on 6 acres of jungle, so this is why you want to stay here.
Enjoy!
- Oleg (10/5): Just great! - I recently stayed at the Rushaga Gorilla Tracking Lodge in Uganda, just a short walk from Bwindi National Park. The luxury cottage was spacious with a panoramic valley view, ideal for relaxation. The service was exceptional, thanks to the personal touch from the manager, Elizabeth, and her team. The food was a tasty mix of local and Western dishes, including vegetarian options. The lodge’s peaceful atmosphere perfectly complemented the wild surroundings, offering comfort amidst nature. It’s great value for money compared to other nearby lodges. I highly recommend it for anyone visiting Bwindi, whether solo, with a group, or with family. Low internet speed, which was just beneficial for the travel into wild
- Dan (10/5): WONDERFUL! - EVERYTHING. It was in an amazing location overlooking Bwindi, with astonishing views. The rooms were exceptionally clean, the staff, Jennifer in particular were amazing. I even got a push start when my battery went :)
The food was delicious. If you are considering booking here, then please do! It was the best place we stayed in the whole if Uganda & Rwanda. Dan & Veebs The Internet was a bit intermittent, it's to be expected in such a rural location, and sometimes it is nice to be offline. But Starlink could be a good investment for the hotel
- jessiem783 (8/5): Comfortable and clean - We spent a pleasant night before our Gorilla trek at this lodge. It was comfortable and clean. We especially enjoyed the view and spent some time watching the brilliant sunbirds from the porch. The menu included several options for various preferences and we enjoyed our selections. The staff were congenial, responsive and professional. A good option for gorilla trekkers as it is a restful place to stay close to the Rushaga Gorilla Trek starting point.
- Duncan (8/5): Great location; enjoyed our stay a lot - Fab views, nice rooms , friendly & helpful staff
- jennybE6021ZZ (10/5): Rashaga Gorilla Lodge - fantastic! - Incredible staff! Jackie is one of the kindest persons I've met. Clean and comfortable lodge with delicious food. The road to this lodge is an adventure all by itself, but well worth the trip. Most travelers stay here for the gorilla treks in Bwindi. We stayed almost a week to rest after flying from USA to Uganda. We bird watched, visited the Batwa, enjoyed the local dancers, trekked to the gorillas and relaxed. The room was clean and the bed comfortable, with a lovely view, and the food was delicious. Couldn't ask for more!
- Jintana (9/5): Superb -
- 155pennys (10/5): A Delightful Surprise - My stay at the Rushaga Gorilla Lodge far exceeded my expectations. If I were to return, and would love to, I would stay more than the two nights I needed to be there to make my habituation gorilla trek possible, so very close to the headquarters. I stayed in a deluxe single cottage tucked into the forest like a tree house. The entire property was so serene, the accommodations charming and clean, the food delicious and the staff the finest. I want to particularly acknowledge Elizabeth (property manager), Nico and Jackie (wait staff), and Osbert (head of housekeeping) for their assistance, professionalism and kindness.
- christymA6238EF (10/5): Great stay - We stayed for 2 nights over the new year; the Lodge was comfortable, the staff were great, laundry service, boot cleaning after the gorilla trekking; the meals were great and the new years celebration was outside by the pool area with a special meal and local entertainment .
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - The views were amazing! Absolute stunning scenery. For the rest: people are so nice and helpful, the room was really nice and clean. The weather can be quite cold but they will keep you warm with a hot water bottle in bed.
- X6633ZNpatrickt (10/5): Fantastic Hideout in the Forest - The Rushaga Gorilla Lodge is one of the most comfortable places I have stayed ! The view is stunning, the staff friendly, caring and courteous, the food divine and so close to the mountains to do the gorilla trekking. It is clean, safe and easily accessible. It is like Shangri La ! I had a fantastic experience at the Lodge and apart from the internet which could be quite slow at times and the occasional black outs very quickly remedied by generator electricity I strongly recommend the Lodge as a place to stay for your gorilla trekking. I have the best time of my life at the Lodge ! Thanks to all the staff there including Roger, Elizabeth and Leon who was so helpful to my every need during my stay :)
- Alberto (9/5): great stay. stay for 2 days a least time enjoy the comfort of this lodge - this was one of my favourite lashes in the world. I can’t pick. staff, locations and it was so clean. it was perfect. Uganda required an invitation letter to enter the country and lodge did not help me with with this. instead they ignored my messages.
- Maya (8/5): Very good - Food was great, grounds were beautiful, staff was great, very close to park entrance, though I entered through a different entrance for my activity. A shower curtain would have been nice. The wine in the bar could be better, and its a little scary at night with no electricity, cell service or wifi connection.
- Shona (10/5): Book the bungalow, you won’t be disappointed! - The best room we had on our Uganda adventure. We loved the bungalow with its treetop view, wrap around balcony and glazed walls. It was such a cosy, comfortable, spacious and clean room. I personally loved the delivery of hot water bottles at 8pm, such a delightful surprise! The staff were wonderful, but I must give special mention to Simon for his attentive service (P.S. we made it to Fort Portal following your route recommendation!). Food was very good, although a little light on portion size for some perhaps I’d say. I’d highly recommend a stay here, it was so atmospheric; we stayed in rainy season and were above the clouds!
- sjmhastings (10/5): Great hotel close to gorilla trekking - Amazing hotel, our room had an incredible balcony view of the forest. Our bathroom had good water pressure and hot water so it definitely felt like glamping. A short ten minute drive to the entrance of the gorilla trekking experience, which is of course the highlight of the entire trip. The hotel had wifi in the reception area as well as a pool and gym. The food was also good! Would definitely stay here again.
- Maarten (10/5): Exceptional - Very friendly staff, very helpful! Great and clean room and the location was perfect for our gorilla tracking.
- Sonja (10/5): - We stayed here for just one night unfortunately as we would have loved to stay longer. The staff does everything to help with planning trips. They work with very devoted guids. For us Elisabeth arranged our guide Christmas who took us to the waterfall and learned us a lot of birding in Uganda. He also took care of the last minute permits for the gorilla tracking. The chalets are beautiful and very well installed with good beds and a spacious and nice bathroom. Shower with hot water without having problems. Food was also good. And of course the beautiful vieuws of the forest. Just 5 minutes to the gate for the Gorillatracking. Highly recommanded!
- Eneko (9/5): Nice stay in Bwindi - Really nice spot. Nice surroundings, facilities were great. Quite decent Wi-Fi and hot shower. Rooms are clean. We had an issue with the payment and the manager solved it quickly. Meals are too expensive for what you get. Quantities are small, should improve.
- Janosch (9/5): Great stay and very close to UWA HQ - Amazing Food, well organized and good communication. It is very close to the Rushaga UWA headquarter from where the trekking starts (Max. 5min drive) which is very convenient in the morning No mosquito net, the bathroom could use a do-over.
If you are driving yourself note that you either need a 4x4 or a vehicle with high clearance to reach the lodge. For us it was not a problem since pur car had both but this was not communicated before the arrival
- Gabrielle (8/5): Very good -
- Alfredo (9/5): Perfect location rooms clean everything ok - Location Nothing
- Jani (8/5): Really loved our stay but not super equipped for camping guests - Staff & hospitality: More friendly & helpful staff is hard to find. Even as campers we were greeted and welcomed like the fanciest guests, and there were always staff around who you could ask Qs to. They're all very professional & knowledgeable about activities in the community etc.
Location: It is also ideally located for those doing gorilla tracking at Rushaga, Bwindi: you don't feel like you're in the community where people will bother you but you are close enough that you can hear and see the day-to-day life of people near the mountains. It's a mere 10min drive/20min walk to the gorilla tracking office. The views from Rushaga are like I've rarely seen in my life! It was such a breath of fresh air to stay there. Wish we could return! Facilities for camping: I assume very few guests camp so there isn't a tap, electric point, or 'kitchen' area available to campers. The shower & toilet is close-by but just outside where other guests go to the restaurant. Still we had everything we needed and they took very good care of us (e.g. letting us charge our phones in the office).
Restaurant: the 'restaurant' does not really serve a la carte and is quite pricey for us South Africans. We ended up eating out in the community and it was just as lovely!
- Eugen (10/5): Exceptional - everything the pool was empty
- James (7/5): Nice stay but expensive - A very nice lodge in beautiful surroundings. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Dinner was very good. It is close to the Rushaga gate for the gorillas. We camped and the toilet/shower facilities were good. Food was expensive. Breakfast $15, lunch $10 and dinner $20. Dinner was delicious and more fairly priced, but breakfast was very basic, we paid $5 elsewhere for much better. $15 is far too much.
The main pool was closed.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great value and great views - It is a bear getting to this area for gorilla trekking but once here, you’ll feel thankful for the Rushaga Gorilla Camp. The views are stunning here and there are ample places to relax, catch your breath, and take in the beauty that surrounds you. The room had everything that we needed and food was easily accessible (if average). The team at Rushaga took excellent care of us. Our only regret is that we’d not added an extra day at the property after our trek.
- Gleb (5/5): Cold, old shelter on a steep slope, pretending to be luxury right near the Rushaga gate - Located right next door to the entrance to the park. Early breakfast was on time with no rush. All the complex is located on the slope of a hill, so be ready to pass 50-70 m of height by stairs several times a day. It was very cold inside the half-tented room at night. And there was only thin Chinese blanket put in between two bed sheets. It rolled at night. The lodge itself needs renovation because the floors are already inclined down the slope. Sound proofing with neighbors is nearly absent, I could hear talks in the neighbor's room like it was in mine. The staff behaved like I'm the dairy cow in terms of money. Restaurant served regular Ugandan food, but service is very slow during the dinner.
- Kim (10/5): Exceptional - incredible nice staff. they try to help you in any possible way.
location is great. Great accomodation also for the gorilla track. gate is nearby.
breakfast is really good.
the accomodation is very big, so you can always find a nice place to chill.
- That_kat (8/5): Incredible location - - Amazing location, right next to the gorilla tracking starting point
- Dinner was quite good, especially good bread rolls
- Spacious room
- Friendly team
- We saw gorillas from the lodge!! This was an amazing experience (March - and staff said this was quite common during the rainy season) - the room was a little dated and lacked character. It could've been a guesthouse just about anywhere and doesn't convey the feeling of being near one of the most special places on earth.
- Mehal (8/5): Very good -
- Alice (7/5): Perfect launch pad for gorilla trekking - Perfect location and beautiful setting in the forest. Good food. Very friendly and helpful staff. The lodge helped me organise our gorilla trekking permits directly, which was easy and much appreciated. The lodge tried to charge me $330 for a standard room where it was only $75 on booking.com. Huge disparity - it was worth the latter but not the former
