Guest Reviews
- Marisol (4/5): - Very noisy area, you can see roof tops very dirty
- Leslie Mayté (10/5): - cheap price for a good staying
- Dee (2/5): - Trust me when I say that this is not somewhere you want to stay. There were so many bad things about this accommodation that we just had to laugh about it, otherwise we would cry.
The day staff was helpful when we first arrived and neither the fan nor AC nor TV worked in our room. She tried to help, but was not successful in fixing the problem. We stuck out the lack of AC in the extreme heat for 2 nights as there were no alternative rooms apparently, but we got no sleep because the room was stifling, plus no one in this hotel respects quiet hours and will happily be having loud conversations in the hallway for long periods of time in the middle of the night.
To get a room change, we had to really fight and not take no for an answer from the night staff who seemed to be unwilling to help in any situation because it might make her actually lift a finger and do her job. Once we did get moved to a room on the same level as reception, we did finally have AC, but every night this lady was either talking loudly on the phone to her mates, or had friends at the front desk talking and laughing loudly from midnight to early hours of the morning.
To then make this experience even more
"exciting", the water went out for over 48hrs, the pool was a damn murky and dirty disgrace, the
"breakfast provided" was literally sliced apple with maple syrup and a sprinkle of granola every day, and both rooms we had plus our friends in another room all had little bits of blood on the bedsheets.
- Ricardo (2/5): - No tienen luz ni agua, Y no dan solución a nada. TERRIBLE
- Rosa Imelda (2/5): - Property was not what the website described. I did not stay ,felt very unsafe. Ened up making different acomedatuons. Very upsetting situation. Called Exedia and didn't get any help.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Sin aire acondicionado - La habitación no cuenta con aire acondicionado
- Claudia (10/5): - .
- Paola Amairani (10/5): - Regresaré pronto
- Karen Araiz (8/5): - Personal amable, instalaciones buenas.
- David (6/5): basic hotel with good roof terrace - A couple of km north of the main commercial area, hotel had nice roof pool and a simple breakfast. There were a few parking spots. My room was very basic and somewhat dark (window looked on to a corridor). Price was fair for PDC --- plus a good taco place opposite.
- raul (2/5): - No tiene estacionamiento
- Gerardo (6/5): - Sencilla. Cuartos amplios.
- JUAN (6/5): - Friendly staff, continental breakfast it’s 8-930 only fruit, Coffe and tea, you get what you pay for, parking it’s on the front or on the street, great for a short stance, clean room and bed. Far from downtown and beach.
- Mackenzie (10/5): - Amazing place and people
- Jaime (10/5): - It was good pool at the nice.
- Martin (4/5): - Got a room on the 1st floor, with no blind except a transparent one!
Everyone could see in the room, people on the street and people living in the apartment on the other side of the street!
Room also had a humidity smell hidden with lot of perfume to hide it.
We did ask to move to another room but we've been told there is no other available. We did ask to cancel and leave but again, not possible so we left. Very bad experience
- Nancy (6/5): - Far from 5ta but close to beaches ⛱️
- Mathias (8/5): - Hotel is nice. Staff very friendly , is close to a very nice beach
Little far away from downtown Playa del carmen.
- Denis (8/5): Near the beach - Short stay of one night, helpful staff. Simple but sustaining fruit and roll continental breakfast. Distracted in upstairs room by audible conversations from the lobby late in the evening.
- Hector (8/5): - Near by a beatifull beach
- Kayleen (2/5): - Skip this place.
- Richard (6/5): - The staff was VERY Friendly!! I feel bad that I can't give 5 stars, but wanted to give people an accurate idea of what you will be getting here.
1st- Hotel IS clean! Staff is friendly & helpful. Room was huge. Overall pleased with that.
BUT- Very limited "amenities". Not even an ice machine. Only 1 chair in our room. Breakfast was white bread & a toaster, butter & a jelly, coffee or water. Getting a blanket and towels was like asking for gold. Never got an extra pillow. Only 1 trash can in the room (in bath)
Overall it was decent place to base our trip from, we only slept there. But it is not a resort that you'd want to lounge around at. Neighborhood was a little sketchy too, although nothing bad ever happened to us or rental car. If you're used to staying at a 4 or 5 star resort, you will probably be disappointed. If not, it's not bad for the money!
- Judith (2/5): - This hotel should not be offered as a three star hotel. We left after the second night and booked another hotel that was about 100 times better and it was also rated three stars. This was an awful place - dirty and noisy
- Esmeralda (2/5): - The rooms walls and ceiling are covered in black mold the windows don’t lock can’t keep your valuables and documents in the room without the fear of getting stolen and when I asked about the window they said they’ll check on it later and is all good to leave it and also was blood on the sheet covers with some black residue
- GINA (2/5): - I was shocked when we got dropped off here. We are a couple in our early 60s. We were given a room on the ground floor with no lock on the window in a very rough neighborhood. Dogs were barking and people were drinking right on the street in the middle of the day, The window in our room had a sheet to cover it. There was no hot water. At all. The sink faucet was broken. Shower head sprayed left and right but not straight down. We asked for a pillow. They said they had none. We asked for a blanket. We were shown a picture of a broken washing machine and were told we could not get a towel or a blanket. We asked to move and they said there were no other rooms. We left after the first night in fear of our safety and because we couldn’t sleep due to all of the noise. The door in the lobby scrapes across a metal threshold when opened and closed. It was a nightmare! Do NOT stay here. You have been warned!!
- alarice (4/5): - Okay, i REALLY wanted to love staying here. We wanted to get away for the holidays, stay away from the resorts and support a smaller community outside of the craziness of the tourist area. I knew things may be subpar bc of the christmas vacationers.
This location is super quiet and very close to one of the most beautiful, public (free) beaches in playa (beach 88)
Unfortunately, thats where the perks kind of stop.
The continental breakfast was brown apples and bimbo toast. I get it, i'm not expecting anything huge but be honest in the profile guys! We came down multiple times between 7:30-9:00 and often there were just the 'scrappy ends' left.
The room we stayed in was modest. The FIRST room we stayed in had no windows, no toilet seat and no blanket. We toughed it one night and then the next day mentioned to the staff we were cold and the toilet seat was non-existent. They switched our room quickly that afternoon and put us on the 4th floor which was a huge gain from where we were originally that morning. I noticed I left my shampoo in the former room and asked the staff if they had collected it since it had only been 4 hours since we switched and the maid had 'thrown it out'. Beds were made but room never swept over 6 days of staying there. We would have even swept ourselves! no towels were given unless you asked 2-3 times. We were going to tip at the end of the stay but I couldn't after dropping the ball so many times.
- Ricardo (4/5): - I didn’t have cold water in my stay and they just told me that they can’t do nothing about it. And they didn’t have any room available to make the change. And they say they cannot make a refund. So, I just have to satay there and taking showers with cold water.
- Erin (2/5): - Worst stay ever. A/C was leaking water, a lot of water. They had to come clean the puddle it left every night till they put a bucket. I asked to get moved to a different room and they said were full... there was mold on the walls from the moisture. The rooms in the ad have outside windows but most rooms only have a window into the hallway which is a danger. The ad shows bicycles but they do not have bicycles... very noisy with all the construction around the area and whenever someone closes a door it make a loud noise that everyone can hear... anyone talking in the hallway is going to wake you up so its a disaster if kids are staying there
- Beatriz (4/5): - Our experience staying in this hotel was very complicated. We filtered for a hotel with parking available, but the property has very limited parking space, so we had to park one night on the street. The room was not well kept, with paint fading from the walls and several bathroom issues. The A/C went out on our room one night, which we reported the next morning, but when we got back to the room they had done nothing to fix the issue. The front desk staff did their best, but we ended up 2 out 3 nights without A/C at a beach hotel. Overall, you get what you pay for with this property.
- Phillip (2/5): Stay away from here or be frustrated - Canadians stay away, you won't sleep due to 24/7 barking dogs and screaming children. Paper thin walls, windows and door. No shower curtain so bathroom soaked after a shower. Tv and safe did not work for entire two weeks. When I asked to switch rooms I was told I had to checkout at noon the next day and check back in at 3pm, so stupid. Breakfast, if they didn't run out, was white bread with one toaster for everybody, coffee with powdered creamer and warm juice. Whenever there was an issue the useless female at front desk just shrugged her shoulders. On Nov 30 at 2am, I e man beat another with a stick until he was down and out. Not a great area, very residential with not much around. Stay away, it is for Mexicans and international tourists.
- Sandra (10/5): - Property is not near the beach or shopping. Staff was nice.
- Hannah Natalja (4/5): - We didn't like the location of the hotel as there is really nothing around (no restaurants, no café or shopping) and we didn't feel quite safe in the neighborhood. At night it was quite noisy with a lot of dog barking so we and our toddler had poor sleep.
Unfortunately they had closed their restaurant without any notice which we were planning on using and the bar and events that they praise on their website don't exist at all.
The staff was friendly though!
Most terrible customer service we've ever experienced though was through expedia!
- Natalie (4/5): - The room didn’t look like the pictures I saw in Expedia. The bathroom window was very dirty. Common areas didn’t look clean either. Even though in Expedia it was mentioned that it was located 5 minutes from Quinta Avenida, the front desk employee explained that we had to walk 45 minutes to get to the tourist area of Quinta Avenida. We didn’t feel safe in the hotel location, that is why we didn’t complain or ask to change rooms; I made a reservation in another hotel and left the same day. I wasn’t able to cancel the booking because I had already checked in; but I preferred to spend the following 6 nights in a clean, well lit hotel located in a safe area.
- Sue (4/5): - Ants bite in bed, couldn’t sleep. Lol
Didn’t do complaint, thought it’s not gonna changed.
- Steve (10/5): - This hotel is located in the nothern part of the city.
Contrary to what some have said, this area is safe, even in the evening when it's dark. The LED street lights are so bright, it looks like day time. Police car roam streets on a regular basis. So yes, we did feel safe walking the streets at night. It's a 45 minute walk on fith avenue to "El Centro", but you will find plenty of businesses on the way within 10 to 15 minutes of walking. Two public beaches are within walking distance. On 30th Avenue, you will be able to dine for less than 100 $ (Pesos). This is where locals do their shopping. We enjoyed our 11 night stay at this hotel. Remember, it's a 3 star proprety, bring your own coffee machine. There is a fridge.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Awful experience, left after 1 night, no refunds.. - Please stay away from this property.
Walls are paper thin, so as the doors and floors. Another guest was playing very loud music, I complained at 1130pm but nothing happened, they finally stopped at 330AM. The next morning I spoke to the manager and he said that they could not do anything, that even the police came but that their hands were tied... because that "it is how the hotel industry works and guests should just get over it". I left after the first night since he could not assure me that it would not happen again and he said that he would refund me the money. Well, he did not refund anything and after speaking to customer support, he claimed that my stay did not have any issues.
In total I spent 3.5 hours on the phone speaking to customer support from hotels.com so they could move me to another hotel during they night but they asked to endure the problems. The next day I spoke to them again and they cannot do anything either, because they hotel has to approve the refund. So beware, it is a scam. Unless you are there to party, do not book.
The only positive thing about the place was Florencia from the front desk, she was very polite and helpful with the check in and with suggestions about where to go near the property.
- Nathalie (6/5): - Nice room nice pool area
- cesar (10/5): - Staff is polite and accommodating, the hotel
Is comfy and artsy. Will come back again
- mike (6/5): - The hotel staff was great. The rooms are comfortable. The noise from neighborhood dogs was almost unbearable. One night they fought and barked all night making sleeping impossible. The cafe never was open. The neighborhood has no restaurants. Shopping district is miles away. I would not stay there again.
- Luis Alberto Castro (10/5): - It was a good experience hope have best better deals next time
- Armando Alberto Malvaez De La (2/5): - We decided to stay here because the pictures and reviews were good but it was FAR from it. We got to the hotel and front desk was friendly. We payed $25 for remote controls for the room but that was given back at the end of your stay. We got to the room and I couldn’t believe my eyes! The room was dirty! They didn’t bother to clean the closet mirror which had lots of finger prints! The worst part was the restroom!! The restroom mirror had toothpaste splashed and water marks ALL over it! I wish I was exaggerating but I am not. The table in there is plastic, old and stained. The bed was soo soft too. It was so bad we left the next day and stayed at a different hotel. We didn’t care to loose the money we had payed for (1 week) we had to get out! Do not stay here! I don’t know how people stay there and I don’t know why the hotel staff thinks it is ok and in good condition for people to stay.
- Paul (10/5): - Fabulous little hotel!
- Alexey (10/5): great hotel - very friendly sttaff. everything you need. cheap and very nicely located. close to one of the best bea hes in Playa del Carmen
no breakfast. would be nice if they had coffee available in the morning.
- Jennifer (10/5): - We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at Punta Esmeralda! The staff was friendly and helpful, it was IMMACULATELY clean, comfortable and a great spot!
Playa Punta Esmeralda was a 5 minute walk away and a beautiful beach! The little market across the street was great for snacks and drinks. 5th Ave was only a 50 peso taxi ride away. GREAT spot for the price! If you're looking for a wonderful 'boutique' hotel for your stay, this is the one!!
- Michelle (6/5): Interesting stay - I feel there are some mis-communications between this booking site and actual hotel. Example would be that Hotels.com said we would be booking Deluxe room with two Queen beds and hotel doesn’t even offer that option. Although the hotel was quick to accommodate us with two beds it made for an awkward exchange at check in and will rate higher due to that!
- Melony (8/5): - Friendly staff, comfortable rooms, and proximity to the beach make this a great stay.
Staff really worked with me to find things I needed or figure out how to navigate the area.
It's far from 5th, but you can rent bikes from a place nearby and get around pretty easily. Hailing a cab may take some time.
The pool and rooftop are nice enough - no umbrellas though, so plan accordingly.
Book a deluxe room if you want to access balcony or beach views.
- Madelaine (8/5): - Super clean and spacious room. Bed was firm but comfy. Friendly staff. Quiet at night.
- david (4/5): - If you like wild ogs running loose and barking all night then this is the place for you! I transferred to a different Hotel after two sleepless nights. No one spoke English or it was very minimal. The walls are paper thin and the views were of nothing. No restaurants nearby and people stared at you like they were sizing you up.
- Aaron Sandy Damian (10/5): - Excelente facilities and easy to move around
- Vytautas (10/5): - no window in a room
- Julie (10/5): - Room was large and had balcony and refrigerator. Roof was awesome - had pool and multiple areas of seating. Staff was friendly and took care of any concerns.
- Annabel (8/5): - Clean, safe and affordable. Staff is nice. We were there on a weekday and there was no breakfast buffet available. Same price for 1 plate of food and very limited options, we skipped it.
- Fidelio (8/5): - Place was clean. Far from town, but guess its just i did not know better.
- Julia (10/5): - Our stay was lovely. The owners were so nice and could provide recommendations. The hotel is a bit far from the main area, but we enjoyed that we could rent bicycles at the hotel for an easy 8-10 minute bike ride down to the main area. I should note that the bike seats cannot be adjusted in height and they were a bit tall for me being 5’3. I do want to note that we stayed in 2 different rooms during our stay and the second room’s AC wasn’t strong enough to cool the room. Other than that, we would definitely recommend this hotel and we would book again.
- Lawrence (10/5): Favorite hotel in Playa - Best hotel in Playa. Away from the noise of 5th av., and just a 10 min walk to Esmeralda beach/cenote. 3rd time staying here and will be back on my next visit. The rooftop pool/terrace is very relaxing with a great view of the city and ocean.
- Carmelo (4/5): Nice location, but not very comfortable - Hotel nicely located near a beautiful beach, with a local feel. But the hotel is literally bare bones, the room had just a bed and a table, only 1 medium size towel per person even if we asked for one more for the baby, no available breakfast, the neighbourhood full of dogs barking all night and waking you up several times.
Overall, overpriced considering the lack of services. We won't stay there again if in the area.
- Lyle (10/5): - Boutique-bargain hotel in locals neighborhood. Can walk to 112 & 5 ave Beach entrance, Mama Linda's Restaurant, Oxxo convenience & snack shops near hotel. Good exercise walk 10ave down to busy part of 5 ave or bike, taxi, rent a car. Took Ado turistica bus from airport. I enjoyed the nice walks, clean cool balcony room, and a full week of budget boutique hotel here. Great beaches & photos for travelers!
- Gabriel (10/5): - Was a nice little place, clean and good service, close to the beach but far from down town but had bikes available to rent
- Claudia Corina Urista (8/5): - Nice place to stay. I stayed 4 nights and I like the hotel. The rooms are very big. I will comeback there.
- Natasha (8/5): - Small hotel, friendly, extremely clean. Great place for the price.
- Maria Ines (8/5): - Clean and friendly staff. It needs a safe box and dresser.
- Stan (10/5): - Nice hotel, pool area on top of the building was very nice, loved looking at the sunrise from the top of the roof
- bernard (8/5): - Great place to stay. Walking distance to beach
- Cheryl (8/5): - Very nice place to stay, wonderful people
- Katherine (10/5): - Boutique hotel close to the beach. Clean facilities. Bikes available for rent for ~$5/day. People at the front desk were very helpful.
- Luiza Erica (4/5): - Very friendly staff is the only positive thing in this hotel. The location is in a poor area with nothing around, 2 blocks from the beach but far away from playa del Carmen. You need cab/taxi for everything. The hotel doesn't provide breakfast even and there is no place around for a sime coffe.
If you didn't rent a car like me , this is not a option
- Darcie J (10/5): - I had many things I asked of the front desk guys and they rose to the occasion every time. I asked for cabs-done. I asked for something to be printed-done. I asked to find a covid testing area-done.
- Javier (8/5): - Tha property's stuff was nice and the whole hotel was very clean and for the price it was an excellent choice love it!
- Chasity (10/5): - Hotel Playa Esmeralda was a great alternative to my typical resort stays. The staff was very sweet. 10 min walk or bike ride to the beach. The rooms do look like the pictures, but I would have requested a room with an outside view. The rooftop pool and sun deck were great areas for unwinding.
- Vincent Neil (6/5): - Simple hotel that fitted my needs. Rather far fom tourist zone with a lot of what appeared to be construction, with alot of graffiti.
No for families, but lets you get local. Several little local restaurants around
- José (10/5): - Very friendly staff and great service.
- Irina (10/5): - Excellent hotel. Very clean with friendly staff. Beach is amazing with a lot of shade. No need to pay for umbrellas. Sand is white and water is clean. It is a safe working neighbourhood .
Liquor store is one block away between 10 and 5 ave if you walk away from downtown. There is kind of farmers market and a few small grocery stores on 30 ave to your left or walk in downtown direction. Fish market where they cook fish for you
And grilled chicken place. A lot of cheap laundry places. You can walk to downtown with a lot of eating places. Take 5 ave. May be 20-30 min walk.
Taxi to downtown is 80 précis. From downtown is 100 pesos. I found A huge grocery store and walked there from hotel. Took taxi back to hotel
- Jorge (8/5): - Great place to stay far from 5th Ave but great stay
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very good - Very good
- xiayan (10/5): - The property ie fine for the price
- Lawrence (10/5): - Very modern, clean hotel on the north side of town away from the 'noise' of 5th ave. Awesome rooftop pool with a great view. Would definately stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff friendly and daily cleaning amazing service for the price.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The place is very clean. Stuff is kind, Laura is nice and helpful.Great pool on the roof.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I didn’t expect too much when we got there but I have to say that we really enjoyed ourselves. We loved the pool on the top floor. The hotel staff (Laura and Josie) was very attentive and always very helpful.
The beach is about 10-15 minutes away walking and you will see a lot of locals there which was best for us because we weren’t interested to be in the tourist area and 5th Avenue is about 2 miles away you can take a taxi and pay about 3.00 US or you can walk there. (Don’t forget your sunscreen.) You won’t have to walk far to find a store to get water and such. You will not find alcohol in the area at all and will have to walk or drive about a mile away to get it.
We were there for about 3 weeks and had the time to explore and find different places to eat which for the most part we’re very good. It is not the most beautiful area as far as the neighborhood goes but the locals are friendly. If you walk to 30 Avenida after 6pm you will find a lot of street food (no food trucks).
When we got there I was afraid of walking around at night but by the time we left I felt like part of the neighborhood. We will be coming back!! Hopefully there’s a room for us when we do!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - room are clean , have a frigobar , the 2 girls at reception where very helpfull &friendly , the beach is walking distance but invaded by stinky algae so rooftop pool is a plus
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Helpful front desk, inexpensive stay,
- Javier (8/5): Muy agradable a buen precio.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Property feels very homey I didn’t like that it was outside the tourist zone but the city in general feels safe
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Really nice place for the price, the internet is very good (a rarity in playa) they have a designated wifi for each room so no poor signal. The room was clean and bed very comfortable with a/c. Very good for the price. It is far from the bars area but they rent bicycles if you don’t have a car or don’t want to take cabs.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Close to the playa, reasonable rates.
Staff was very helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP!!!!!! - GREAT HOTEL! GREAT PEOPLE! NICE BEACH AROUND THE CORNER......ENJOY YOUR STAY
- David (10/5): - I can't say enough great things about this hotel. It is clean, they are very courteous, the rooms are bigger than I expected and clean. One of the few places with an elevator. They have breakfast and dinner options until 7pm. No bar but a beautiful and spacious rooftop pool.
It is within walking distance to Punta Esmeralda beach which is a huge plus!
My favorite place to stay in Playa del Carmen!
- David (10/5): Amazing Hotel with Pool and Elevator! - I was absolutely surprised by the quality of people that work at this hotel, the amenities, internet speed, cleanness and location are simply amazing.
You cannot find such a nice place at this price anywhere!
The my have a few options for breakfast and dinner. A rooftop overlooking the sea from afar and walking distance to Playa Esmeralda which is lovely.
I cannot say enough great things about this place. This will be my go to place every time I stay in Playa Del Carmen.
