Michael (10/5): The wet one - As soon as we got reception staff couldn't do enough for us. First day went to the cricket got to see most of the game before rain stopped play. The rest of the match was virtually a wash out. Plodding round the town visiting places that were recommended all very good Wil be back.
Phillippa (6/5): - The property is within 3-5 minutes walk from Taunton Station and very easy to find. Staff were friendly and welcoming throughout my stay. Reception is open 24 hours a day which is useful in case of problems. I booked a standard single room which was clean and warm with reasonable en suite facilities although the shower was inclined to swap from very hot to cold water without warning. The fridge in the room was useful as the hotel is room only. Coffee and tea are provided, I stayed for 2 nights and it would have been good if the mug in the room had been replaced with a clean one the second night and more coffee and tea sachets left in the room. The bedside light in the room was nice but would have been improved had there been somewhere to plug it in.

Lynda (2/5): - Do not even consider this ‘hotel’. If Expedia want photographs I have many! We stayed in room 9. The room in general was very run down but worse than the marks on the walls and doors was the filthy bathroom. We did not take a shower as it was too dirty. The worst offenders were the mattresses. Please, please, please check your mattresses (underneath the protectors) before using. Both our mattresses were heavily stained with what we assumed could only have been urine on both sides so they had been turned over and put back on the bed. They were unfit to be used in any hotel. The only saving grace was that the manager apologised and issued a full refund but only after I showed her the photographs.
Kunal (6/5): - The pictures shown are from rooms that are well lit but the room we were in had a side window facing the neighboring building and felt dark even during the day. Knowing that there is no air conditioning during the current hot English summer, it wasn’t the best experience. Internet was hit and miss. The shared kitchen area was equipped with microwave, toaster, stove etc. and was usable for simple breakfast preparation. The location is walkable from the Taunton station and 10 minute walk from all the shopping.
Ian (10/5): Great Position - Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. It is within close distance to the Rail Station, Cricket Stadium & Town Centre. Staff were great & very helpful. Bedroom was large & comfortable & despite being near the road was fairly quiet. Bathroom needed updating but was large. For the price I paid, the room comfort, staff & location I would say this hotel is perfect & will definitely be staying again.

CliveJM22 (8/5): Well worth the stay - Never write a review in haste... Had issue with room and posted a hasty review which I have repealed. The only issues being that room I had did not have a proper closing window which was a issue. Vents. Royal Ashton is room only which should not be an issue as plenty of places locally to shop or eat, including pubs, which are well priced and food excellent. The rooms are clean, tidy and functional. The hotel itself very close to the centre of town and walkable to French Weir and a bit of quiet. May and sun frequent. Staff are polite and welcoming and - had I not been stressed - would have been accommodating. Meg - thankyou. Don't judge too quickly. Well located, clean, tidy, functional and worth the money. Royal Ashton deserves a look in

nocky-1975 (10/5): Exceptional service and value - 6 of us stayed for New Year’s Eve and I got say what lovely stay we had. Rooms were spot on and they were very good to rearrange rooms so 4 of group were together. Staff couldn’t be more helpful from the time we arrived til the time we left. Morning duty manager was exceptionally helpful to us. Parking was close by at railway station and easy walk into town. Rooms were clean spacious and warm. All in all couldn’t fault our stay next time in Taunton we will return.

Amazing value and great location. Some cracking pubs seconds away. Staff are amazing and were so understanding when our daughter was unwell. The Chinese takeaway next door is brilliant too.

474judithf (2/5): Nightmare - I had a terrible experience at this hotel. When I got to my room I could hear a male making a lot of noise and it became apparent he was masturbating repeatedly. I went out for a meal but on my return it carried on continuously. I went to see the receptionist but they refused to speak to him or move him. I had to move room st 8.45pm. The receptionist came to my room and heard it she said it was disgusting. I received no compensation after a number of complaints. The incident really upset me as I was a female on my own. The management failed to address the issues correctly I would never use this company ever again.

The room we had was a 2 bedrooms little flat - spotlessly clean, milk in the fridge and teabags. Beds comfortable - lovely little garden area. We were extremely well looked after and have already booked our next stay. susan (4/5): - We were charged £95 for one night for a twin room with no breakfast, the room first offered was right at the back (in the backyard), it felt cold, damp and dark and had a smoking area right outside- so it smelt of smoke and people stood by the door smoking and talking loudly on the phone! It seemed like an old garage- though the decor was good! we asked to be moved. The staff were amazing and gave us a room upstairs but it became apparent that this was a children’s extension to another room, with a locked door between, but there was no soundproofing between the rooms or under the door- everything was heard both ways! The rooms looked like they had been recently refurbished but the beds were very small and I didn’t sleep at all well as I was uncomfortable! The staff wanted to offer a refund but as we had booked through Expedia they could not! They advised us to ask Expedia for a refund! I would not pay more than £60 for either of these rooms!! I hope this message gets through to someone- I will be seeking a refund!

Culture26528906510 (10/5): Very clean and in heart of town - Very clean hotel in the heart of the Town. Newly refurbished rooms. Walking distance to both Train station and car park. Staff were really friendly and allowed us to check in early. Special mention to Nicky on reception who was very professional and pleasant.
Verified traveler (4/5): No frills - The location is good. I was also very impressed at how cool my room was despite it being a heatwave. Bed was comfortable and shower was nice and hot. However there were some disappointing features. The decorative cushion on the bed had stains on it. So did the fabric chair and the rest of the furniture is old and worn. I was on the ground floor and there was lots of noise from other guests / doors slamming in the corridor as well a courtyard outside where the noise from other rooms echoed despite my window being fully closed. The room smelt weird too. It’s a basic no frills stay if you need to be close to the train station but I won’t be rushing back.

After long day at work filling in forms that I had done on line at reception was not good. Bed was small and not comfortable. Fridge had been leaking left wet patch by toilet door, see pictures. Harsh (2/5): - I stayed here for 5 nights. We were here for the Kings College Cricket festival. Overall super disappointed with the stay — 1/ The rooms are very tiny even for one person. Even if you are a single person staying, highly recommend to upgrade and get a bigger room. 2/ Room service does not come unless you ask them to specifically do something and they will only do that. For example towels change, trash clean up, coffee/milk restock, everything has to be mentioned. 3/ The first room I was booked to had the electric outlet broken so they had to move me to another room. The staff did help move some stuff, which is good, but would have been great if they inspect the room before assigning it to someone. 4/ Biggest issue - the room has lot of bed bugs and mosquitoes. It have at least 15-20 bites across both hands and both legs. Yes it is better than Taunton House IMO, but there are far better AirBnB and Holiday Inn options. Never staying here if we end up coming to Taunton in future. Not recommending it to any visiting cricket academies. BTW I have photos of my arms and legs full of mosquito bites, hope Orbitz lets me upload it.

Verified traveler (6/5): OK hotel, busy central location - Well located for the train station and cricket ground. However, it is on a busy road with plenty of pubs and takeaways a stone's throw away, so don't expect a quiet night. Can't sleep with the window open, but a good fan is provided. The window being closed did stop most of the noise. Condition of the room could be better, could be worse. Bed was average. Walls are thin, could hear conversations happening next door. Bathroom tap had hot and cold labelled the wrong way around. Soap had a strange scent, almost like rubber. Shower took a couple minutes for hot water to come through. Overall, despite a few flaws, it's a fairly run-of-the-mill hotel and I'd consider staying here again.
ROB (8/5): Very Good - Excellent location for train station and cricket ground. Staff very welcoming and accomodating. Rooms basic but reflective of cost. I would definitely stay again if in Taunton
Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel in Taunton - I've stayed in this hotel a couple of times and it has always been good. It's just a few minutes' walk from the train station, which is ideal if like us you don't drive. There are a good selection of amenities in the room such as kettle, fridge, TV, etc. The staff seem friendly. The hotel doesn't serve breakfast but there a few good options nearby.

Ruth (8/5): - The hotel was very clean and the bed was comfy with lots of good pillows. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Small thing, but the mirror in the bathroom was too high and small, and the wifi was a bit patchy.

Larissa (10/5): - We were greeted really warmly and had a lovely surprise of a sudden unexpected upgrade and gift on arrival to our room when we mentioned that we had been married the day before. We were also able to book in early afternoon which was very welcome.
quentinlX8561QD (6/5): Uncomplicated and good value - Clean, friendly, good value and close to the railway station, this hotel is uncomplicated and does everything you need. It feels like a privately owned enterprise rather than a chain. I had a street-side single room and there was not too much noise on a week night. Plenty of restaurants and pubs nearby.
Nicholas (10/5): Excellent value for larger families - Really happy with our stay in the Ground Floor Flat. Layout gives space and privacy for an extended family, especially when connected to adjoining room. Very happy with the price paid on a 'cost per person' basis. Everything seemed newly refurbished and, while fittings were not luxury, everything was clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and location was very convenient for what we needed - ideally between the railway station and cricket ground - albeit not the most picturesque part of the town.
11elsied (10/5): Perfect little stay - Stayed at this hotel in may 2024. Slept well. Although in the centre of town, noise from the outside world is minimal. Amazing staff, friendly and informative. Room is decorated to be welcoming and is exactly that. I was in the apartment which is very spacious and more than appropriate for a family. Although no parking with the hotel, there is parking 2min walk away which is very cheap for 24hrs.
tasha463 (10/5): Best stay in Taunton - Let me start off by stating that Meg and her team are fantastic. I stay here quite regularly for work. The staff are friendly and will go the extra mile to make your stay more welcoming . It has a kitchen where you can cater for yourself always clean and tidy The rooms are well cleaned by housekeeping she does an amazing job 100% worth the value for the money for me this is a 5* review wouldn't stay anywhere else when I come to Taunton

Charles (8/5): Excellent staff - After geftting over the fact that it was not a hotel with meals available, as advertised on Taunton page and maps, the place was comfotable with plenty of close cafes and restaurants nearby. Also excellent were all the staff we met, very helpful indeed.
Naomi (10/5): Fantastic service, comfort and value - The room was warm and well appointed and larger than it looked on the website. A comfortable bed and I loved the deer paintings on the wall! The shower room was new and immaculate. No wasteful miniature shower gels, etc, as this was provided in a bulk dispenser, which gets eco-points in my view. The service was friendly and very helpful, down to providing herbal teas when I asked. Round the clock in person presence. Extremely close to the station and excellent value, with a very affordable room rate.
Nick (8/5): - Nice hotel and super staff. My only moan is that the window blind in 38 hangs far enough away from the window to allow the lights from cars, street lights and traffic lights comes in meaning that you have to move the bed to help.

Verified traveler (2/5): Terrible - This is possibly the worst hotel I’ve stayed in, the bedroom was so small you could hardly move around it. The double bed was only accessible from 1 side. The bathroom was the size of a small toilet, this included, a sink on the top of a toilet cistern, a toilet that you had to pen the shower door to use. The room had just been painted but the room had not been cleaned properly after completion. I fail to see how Hotels.com could rate this as an 8.6 in my opinion and as a gold member it should be no more than a 4. How do I seek compensation?
Andrew (10/5): - I called in at the hotel while passing at 10.00 a.m. to tell them I would be quite late arriving that evening. They were so friendly and helpful and even gave me the key to my room, a quiet one that I had requested. Very pleased.
John (10/5): - This was a last minute booking - on arrival we were offered a ground floor room at the front on a busy road- luckily the staff member on duty offered an alternative further back, which was very quiet
G4380TZcharlesm (10/5): Fab affordable hotel right in the heart of Taunton - I've stayed in hotels all over the world and this small affordable one is completely unique. Clearly recently refurbished the single downstairs rooms which I usually use are modern, clean and comfortable. From the outside it doesn't look very special but as soon as you walk through the door you are greeted by a friendly reception team. Emma and Meghan are the two I've had the pleasure of speaking to several times and they are both amazing. Friendly, funny down to earth whilst remaining professional and in my opinion exactly how a hotel should be. All of the staff are great not just reception, they will go out of their way to help/advise and guide where needed. I hope your experience there is as good as mine have been :)
EuanRiley (2/5): AVOID, AVOID, AVOID - I’m writing this review laying in bed awake here. Absolutely awful establishment and i’d urge anyone reading this to stay elsewhere. We arrived yesterday and were shown to room 39, allegedly a ‘family’ room. After around a few mins of being in there room I commented that it smelled of exhaust fumes and assumed it was because the windows were open and it overlooked the main road outside. However, post a few minutes the smell seemed to worsen. After an evening out with family were returned and the room stank to high heaven of exhaust fumes, despite the windows being closed for the 6 or 7 hours we were away. I’m now laying in bed at 01.34 with the windows open, to alleviate what i think is toxic fumes worrying about my son in the other bed. Given it’s November, this is clearly why the windows were open upon out arrival. I’ll be calling the relevant authorities as soon as it’s daytime. Being a bit crap is one thing, being dangerous is another.
