Guest Reviews
- Colleen (10/5): York stay - Very good location, within easy walking distance of all attractions, didn't need to use the car, close to convenience store, we booked a small double room, basic but clean, bigger rooms available, bit dated but expected for an old building and price. Staff were very friendly, breakfast served between 8-12 am, which is good if your not a early riser like us š. Overall we had a good time and would stay again. If your looking for a budget B&B would recommend

- martin (5/5): Good price for centre of York. - Helpful and pleasant staff, great location. Room was very small and cramped, slow Wi-Fi and very few TV channels.
- Yi Nuo (8/5): -
- Melony (10/5): Lovely stay lovely breakfast - The location and lovely breakfast Nothing
- Copeland (8/5): Great. Would stay again. Lovely staff. - The staff were amazing. So friendly. Breakfast was fab. Bed was really comfy. Only room for improvement is the shower which was a very tight fit and not particularly powerful. We would definitely stay again. The shower could have been better
- RaĆŗl (5/5): -
- catherine (8/5): - Loved the atmosphere of the place. The location was awesome...staff were extremely helpful Not much
- Gary (9/5): Great location. Tidy rooms. And good parking . Would stay there again. - Good location and easy parking. Close to the centre too. Rooms were decent Nothing. It was exactly what I wanted
- Nicola (7/5): Could make more of an effort with the rooms - Breakfast was lovely
Rooms bit dated and stuff was still in the drawers from previous occupants
Pub says it closes at 10pm, but music still blaring hours after Noisy
Tired rooms
- Gareth (7/5): Really enjoyed my stay! Great staff and an interesting wee pub. - The lass on the reception/bar was super helpful and friendly. Had to check out early and there's nobody on site until after 8.
- John (10/5): Happy - Room 7 clean tidy and ideall Nothing
- Jackson (5/5): Overly loud - Room was a little out dated and needed some TLC. Toliet smelt like the drains was blocked. The hotel rooms are located above the churchgate bar and advised us online that the bar and music is turned down at 10.30pm however this wasnt the case on are stay there.was young youths drinking in there until 12.00 midnight and the music was on until that time aswell. Staff are really lovely but when they are charging more then what i think the price should be, then i think they should prioritise those first. Toilets was all snashed up and its really open to the public and yoing youths was uskng the toilets to take drugs.
- Chris (8/5): Bargain break - Perfect for our one night stay. Location is ideal

- Antony (6/5): - Really friendly and helpful staff, good location The room needs a complete refurbishment it's tied and dated, also a lot of outside noise to contend with
- Kirkby (7/5): Unfinished - The team, were fantastic, great location, ennjoyed this place, little gem not charging the world. Needs attention in the main bar and rooms, facilities are basic, but if finished. Will make a great busiiness.
- Dixon (7/5): Good location - Great location. Comfortable bed. Parking used to be free here, which was one of the reasons for booking again having stayed on previous years. Shame they have started to charge.
Despite having tea and coffee in the room we had to actually ask for a kettle. Kettle should be already in the room.
- David (9/5): Excellent Chef - Great owner and chef. Really looked after us. Beds could do with new mattresses.
- Joanne Hopkinson (9/5): - Close to city, friendly staff,
- Melanie (5/5): - Cheap and very central, friendly staff. There were empty shampoo bottles left in the shower from the previous guest, so it felt pretty grimey.
- Beverley (7/5): - Great location, 15 minute walk to the Barbican where we were going for a concert. Very small room. Double bed against the wall making it impossible for 1 person to get out.
- carl (6/5): Cheap n cheerful place for a night in York . - Great location in best part of York , cheap parking. Room was quiet and warm. Nice spot next to the river, great staff nice bar for a drink. No window in room just a velux with broken blind , shabby old furniture, bathroom tiny and worn out , bed linen and towels old , itās a cheap room so you canāt really complain.
- Paul (5/5): Wouldnāt advise but great staff - The location and the staff were great The bed was awful, the noise from the room above made it impossible to sleep, the pipe work around the shower got red hot and burnt my arm
- DUDLEY (8/5): - Very nice food, lovely breakfast no complaints of what so back a very soon

- Steel (10/5): Excellent central location stay. - The central location, the staff were absolutely amazing and helpful. The food was amazing and such a large portion. The room was clean and comfortable . Absolutely nothing I honestly mean that.
- Helen (10/5): -
- Bryan (9/5): will go again - Stayed here many times with our dog. Always welcoming
- Greg (10/5): -
- Gerard (10/5): Excellent location and value for money - The young lady who served us breakfast ( I think her name was Karen ) was so nice , she really made us feel welcome
- paul (8/5): -
- Derek (9/5): we got there early , the staffed welcomed us and showed us to our room even though it was not time , - very good location , room was cosey , staff very helpful and very friendly liked everything

- Jack (10/5): -
- Brooke (9/5): - Location was fantastic The bed was really uncomfortable
- Aubrey (8/5): - The staff were very friendly. The room location was quiet. There were a lot of young lads who were a bit rowdy in the bar
- Helen (8/5): Would recommend and would rebook to stay again. - This is sensibly priced accommodation, is located a short walk to the centre and the staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough to help. There was a couple of things which could be improved on - the lino in the bathroom was not flush to the walls or toilet so there was dirt where the gaps were. The door opened into the hanging rail so wasn't able to open fully.
- rawlings (7/5): - The location was excellent and easy to get around Maybe a little more technical to the rooms like going in when the client is out empty the bin wash up the cups and straighten the bed
- å¼µē§é (8/5): -
- Veronica (9/5): Weāve used this accommodation about 10 years we were slightly saddened the managementās decision to incur additional co - The location and the staff are excellent It was great for short stay
- David (9/5): Excellent - The staff were lovely Food was good staff was nice
- Geoffrey (3/5): -
- Woodley (7/5): -
- Mary (8/5): Central and good value. - Very convenient It was fine
- Angela (1/5): - Hotel tried to put me in a room with steps while I had emailed them 5 months prior for an accessible room staff were not help at all Staff had not
- Nicholas (7/5): -
- shannon (8/5): Average and overpriced - Lovely staff and rooms absolutely fine. Nothing luxury but the price reflects this. Comfy beds and loads of pillows. Rooms get warm but large fan provided. Wasnāt the cleanest, the shower Had lots of build up on it from limescale. Our door was broken so we were locked in the room and physically couldnāt get out without calling someone from reception to come get us as the latch was broken. They were quick to come and get us once they were told about the problem however it was quite worrying from a fire perspective as it was very unsafe that we couldnāt just leave the room when we wanted.
The walls really are paper thin so you can hear everything. Very basic and so expensive for very basic accommodation.
- John (9/5): - Close to all amenities Nothing
- Albert (6/5): Excellent location, good size room and comfortable beds. - Excellent location, good size room and comfortable beds. Room a bit cold, can't control the radiator time. Shower a bit weak.
- Ignazio (7/5): -
- Jon (8/5): Clean, reasonably well priced room in an excellent location with super friendly staff - Location Nothing
- julie (1/5): Zero integrity - N/A After a 4.5hr drive, we arrived at the property and paid for our stay, including a 3 day parking charge. Within about 30mins, we received a phone call from home explaining that a family member had taken unwell and we needed to return home. We apologised to owners of property who explained that they would happily refund us if Booking.com were in agreement. Booking.com couldn't have been any more helpful or understanding. They informed us that refund was at the discretion of the property.
Suffice to say that nearly 2 weeks later, we have not had a penny refunded.
- Stephen (7/5): - Small double room with en-suite bathroom at the rear of the upper floor. Fairly cramped tea making facilities at the back of the tv! Overall it was comfortable but as it was above the pub which had an annex seating area at the back of the premises it was bright until late and noisy given it only had a single glazed rear window. It didnāt quieten down until 2.30am so I had a disturbed sleep. Had it not been for the noise I would have had a pleasant stay at it was well located for visiting the sites of York. See above response for good and bad. The bed was comfy with good pillows and the en suite was good.
- sharon (5/5): - Location The room
- Sarah (10/5): I recommend this hotel. Room was lovely and clean and the bed was really comfortable - Beautiful location. Staff go above and beyond . Lovely place to stay
- Gordon (3/5): Worst stay ever - Break fast was cold liked nothing noisy hotel this hotel was filthy stayed 3 nights room was filthy shower was filthy I had to clean before using need a good paint and clean š” The whole place should be closed and money spent sitting in the pub at hotel ha ha this is no hotel kids running about late at night people sitting smoking and vaping also just terrible staff not bothered šµāš«
- Rob (9/5): - Cental location, was exactly what I wanted, a bed for the night
- shane (10/5): - Friendly staff great food great location really comfy bed clean room with on suit great shower to the prices in the bar are very reasonable too they really couldn't do enough for us and the breakfast was superb can't wait to stay again Nothing great stay
- griffin (10/5): - Friendly, good value, great location and bus route All good
- Robert (6/5): -
- jayne (8/5): Great location - Great location Single glazed window so we heard everything happening on the road
- david (7/5): -
- Vickkie (8/5): -
- Wood (5/5): Would not go back. In fact hardly slept and left in the early hours of the morning. Very disappointe - Didnt have breakfast, Location was good, bed comfy. Security was worrying no lock on front door, had a lockbox fixed to room door but was advised by staff to take key with us! There was a hole in our door where it looked like the door had been jemmied, so safety was a concern and security of valuables. The carpet was a number of pieces rather than fitted and there was hair in the plughole of the sink.
- Paula (7/5): - Localização Quarto muito pequeno e frio. Cama pouco confortÔvel
- Amaranth (7/5): - Staff were very welcoming and felt like nothing was too much for them, The location was brilliant and part of one of the activities of the city on site food was also fantastic
- Jane (4/5): - Proximity to everything Our mattress had exposed springs. They did their best to fix with a full complex.
The hot water died. Again they worked hard to fix.
- Pippa (4/5): Loved the location, lots of eateries and very close to city centre. Facilities basic - The location is amazing The facilities are basic and dated. No mirror in bedroom. Broken drawer. Huge gap under door. Very thin walls
- Pauline (9/5): Great stay in York - Staff were very friendly.
Food was excellent.
Room was small but comfortable with everything we needed Nothing
- Balderson (10/5): - Excellent location friendly staff Nothing
- Martin (8/5): - Zentrale Lage Durch die Strasse etwas laut

- Anita (5/5): Not the most pleasant of stays unfortunately. Not for us - Close to the city center, staff were friendly Bed was uncomfortable, noise outside till early hours, breakfast service was not the best.
- Shirley (8/5): Exactly what we needed for a night in York - Perfect location, very old and atmospheric lovely staff beds clean and comfy shower hot and powerful what more could you ask Walls thin so could hear people coming in at night could do with more sockets
- Claire (8/5): -
- Sally (10/5): -
- Maureen (1/5): - Nothing Appaling accomodation. No locks on bathroom door, furniture falling to pieces heaters not working . Extension cables attached to walls unsafe kettle plugged in on floor shower not working . Disgrace paid £234 for 2 nights and had to leave a day earlier. Requested a refund but told not possible as it doesnt work that way will not be recomending watergate inn to anyone
- ryan (7/5): -
- Gary (7/5): -
- Daniel (8/5): - It's a lovely place to stay with parking and 5min walk into the centre of the city of York.
We've stayed numerous times and will continue to stay.
Room is comfy, everything you need is provided, friendly staff and a good bar for meals and drinks. The room could be a little cleaner and tidier, with a couple of minor tweaks the rooms could be elevated to a much higher level.
- Paul (9/5): Friendly staff, warm room, and for an additional cost, a very nice breakfast selection - Well situated
- Aleksandra (6/5): -
- Paul (10/5): -
- Leah (5/5): Not good - Good location to explore York Room very cold
No wardrobe only place to hang clothes back of the door
No housekeeping had to go down to the bar to get s clean cup,tea and coffee not replenished
