Guest Reviews
- Sonja (10/5): - Having stayed in Eton several times, always wanted to stay at Gilbey’s. Stayed in studio suite and it was fabulous. A safe area and close to Windsor Castle, shopping , many pubs and restaurants.
Staff was lovely. Will definitely stay there again.
- Margaret (10/5): - This is such a quaint place. our room was wonderful. The manager let us store our luggage in her office so we didn't have to lug it all up the stairs. The food at the pub was great! Would definately stay there again.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Restaurant was fabulous. The stairs were a little steep but manageable for us even though we are older. Wonderful location along the river and an easy walk to Windsor. Wish we stayed more than 1 night.
- alyta (10/5): - Loved this brief stay! The food was the best I had eaten in my week long European vacation. Sara is the best!
- Andrew (8/5): - Disappointing that the communal iron/ironing board was unavailable as another guest kept it in their room! Not ideal for working professionals :-( Surely each room should have these facilities available for all guests?
Otherwise, a very pleasant stay. Thank you!
- michnol (10/5): Wedding Day - Michelle & Stephen wedding 24th August 2024
We would like to thank Emma, Lyn, Chris, Ben, Lukasz, Monika, Lila, Asia, Violet, Kaylee and Shirlee for making our day so special. Everything went amazingly well and we cannot express how appreciative we are for everything the Gilbeys team did for us on the day.
We could not of done this without the fantastic organisation by Emma, the setup of the ceremony and wedding dinner was second to none. The food was outstanding and every guest was very impressed with the choice and of course how delicious the wedding dinner was and how smoothly it was served.
The team at Gilbeys Bar, Restaurant & Townhouse made our wedding day truly wonderful.
All our love
Michelle & Stephen Head
- Robin (10/5): - Gilbey's is n Eton, just over the bridge from Windsor and 10 minute walk to Windsor Castle.
Of the 4 rooms, We stayed in room 2 a spacious bedroom and all have stairs to negotiate.
Very comfortable bed.
Lots of hotel style amenities; coffee machine, Cafetiere, kettle, bottles of still & sparkling water, safe, usb power points, A/C, heated towel rail and floor, etc.
Extra fluffy towels.
As we booked through Expedia our Continental breakfast was included and it was excellent.
Top Tip: Car park permit is available on request for the car park around the back.
- Carol (10/5): - We stayed in the studio suite, which is a good size, with a large soaking tub, kitchenette and A/C. Very
comfortable.
- Carol (10/5): - Wonderful, accommodating staff. The room is charming and the area delightful!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location, rooms comfortable. - Nice property overall, location can’t be beat, walkable to Windsor and Eton and the river. No hot water the first day, difficult to get a hold of staff as there is no overnight staffing. Emergency and contact numbers were out of date, manager didn’t pick up her mobile phone because they didn’t recognise the number calling, which we thought was odd. Water issue was remedied. No compensation offered. Room was very comfortable, clean and quiet. Didn’t hear any noise from street or from restaurant. Few of the fixtures (towel rails, hooks) need repairing as they were out of the wall.
WiFi had issues, didn’t work the last day at all and very slow the rest of the time. Overall, the issues we had wouldn’t deter us from returning. Value for money in terms of room size and comfort. Just a few minor things that need attention. Thank you for a nice stay, complimentary parking is a huge plus and much appreciated.
- Gary (10/5): - Delightful.
- Daniel (4/5): A disappointing Stay - I stayed at Gilbey’s upon recommendation as my friends had their wedding reception in the restaurant downstairs. I have to say, the food and service in the restaurant was impeccable.
However, I was very disappointed with the room and don’t feel that the price reflects the room standard. The room was dusty and felt unclean. The carpet was baggy and threadbare in places. The tapped dripped all night however when you wanted hot water, the flow was a mere dribble. When I got into bed at 11.30 am when I untucked the duvet there was blood stains on the bedding that weren’t visible when they bed was made. The ironing board was rickety and unsafe. Whilst I was using it the board collapsed and the iron fell off and nearly landed on my foot.
This morning, I didn’t have toothpaste and wanted to speak to receptionist, I kept looking out to see if anyone was present every 20 minutes or so and there was no one there which shows that the hotel is poorly staffed and undermanaged.
- Wendy (10/5): - Everything about this property was excellent!
Staff, rooms, meals, all 5 Star!
- Adrian (10/5): - This is an excellent alternative to the larger hotels in the area. Excellent friendly service …
- Hilary (8/5): Great location - Great location
Shame there wasn’t an actual bar to sit and have drinks
Thought it was cheeky to charge extra for coffee on top of the breakfast price
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely stay - Lovely stay. Staff very helpful and friendly. Amazing location, lovely room. We always have issues with beds and pillows everywhere, we never sleep well so I can't say if it was just us or the bed, which was quite soft and the bedding/sheet/blankets too rough and thick. Smaller cleanliness detailes like the kettle in dire need of descaling. The aircon needs fixing, the grills wouldn't really open but it was quite late when we first turned it on and didn't want to bother anyone. Bonus was free Netflix and great choice of beverages and nice biscuits. It was a lovely stay at an amazing location. I'd definitely stay again.
- Michael (10/5): Wonderful place! - Fabulous place to stay in Windsor! The staff was over the top, and the room was wonderful! Location was perfect, we will stay there again!
- 56dominicj (4/5): Poor Food and Service - The food was generally poor. The risotto main course was very small. I asked for some more gravy as there was not enough and was charged £1.95 and when I complained was told I was expected to pay. Service was slow and also poor. Shame as a nice spot on the High Street.
- Jennifer (10/5): Magical boutique hotel - This is my second stay at Gilbey's. It is a wonderful small hotel in a fabulous location. I will stay here again.
- Helen (10/5): - This was our second stay in The Studio at Gilbeys and it is a truly wonderful place, lovely staff, delicious food, peaceful AND close to everything. We will be back!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely, comfortable accommodation really close to Windsor castle. Loads of shops and restaurants close by, parking provided by hotel. Great stay :)
- Sally (8/5): - We stayed just one night at Gilbey’s before heading to Heathrow, only a short drive away. Our room was great, lovely furnishings and well appointed with a nice ensuite bathroom. Staff we very friendly. Would certainly use again!
- Hagisan (8/5): Good place - Enjoyed lunch with vegetable cream soup and shepherd’s pie. Was part of big group visiting the restaurant so couldn’t have choice for meals and drinks (enjoyed everything that was served). Location - within few hundred meters from Windsor Castle and railway station.
