Guest Reviews
- Marlene Johanna (8/5): We really liked staying here, it was cozy and the location was superb - We loved the traditional tatami room with foutons that were pretty comfortable, also the room was quite spacious for Tokyo so we had enough room for our luggage Nothing really, it is very simple but very nice
- Adryn (2/5): Not worth the price. Really grimy and uncomfortable. Lacked the love and care that an old character home like that dese - It was a cool old building, the facilities were enough for a basic stay. The room ac was good and the host was polite. The price to value was way off. Probably taking advantage of tourists due to the proximity to the local sites (senso-ji). The room we stayed in was really grimy, the sheets and blankets were thin, the futon was stained, we had to put the sheets on our own beds (not a huge deal but this is the first place I stayed that made us do that) the windows were broken and super dirty and rattly, the shared bathroom stank really bad, the sink was grimy and only had cold water, the house was clearly not cared for and despite being a really nice character home, was cold and uncomfortable due to its disrepair and grime. It just lacked the love that the price point certainly did not reflect. Also, small point, but calling itself a ryokan set a certain expectation of some complimentary toiletries, a towel, etc, but they only offered a towel and you had to rent it for a fee.

- Benedict (8/5): Very Cozy Room, perfect if travelling alone. But you will hear outside talk at night -
- Jonathan (6/5): -
- Juan Manuel (10/5): Charming and unique - It is an old Japanese house, which is charming and also gives you a different vibe than a regular hotel Since it is old the noise can be problematic but not a major problem
- Emmanuel (9/5): - Ryokan typique, assez rustique.
- Tobias (9/5): This very authentic accommodation has rather thin walls and is generally very noisy. This is a compromise one should be - A very authentic, minimally furnished accommodation, a maximum 5-minute walk from the nearest subway and bus stations. Sights, shops, and restaurants are all within walking distance. This very authentic accommodation has rather thin walls and is generally very noisy. This is a compromise one should be prepared to accept if one wants such an authentic experience.
- Jonathan (9/5): Really enjoyable stay next to Asakusa - I really liked how Taito Ryokan is quite traditional, very clean and has good amenities in a good location for a decent price. I would definitely stay here again. It's a short walk to the Ginza Line and Asakusa and Taito offer plenty of good restaurants, things to see and shopping. Nothing to add here.

- Barthi (6/5): Disappointed - Location was good I did not like the fact that we had sheets in the corridors. One night we took one that we needed, on the next day the owner entered in the room to take out that extra sheet. There was no one in the reception, and we took it to use in the room, but it seems that it belongs to some another different hotel. Not sure why the corridors work as a laundry service. I did not like the fact someone entered in the room without permission and without us being there in the room.
- kertu (4/5): It was really cold when I stayed but I imagine it's nice in the summer. - The location was good and the house looked just like advertised. The other guests seemed perfectly normal during the few short moments of exchanged glances in the hallways. The only thing the walls kept out was the wind as any warmth had escaped months ago at start of winter. It's futile thinking the air conditioner could help as it they get so loud in the night it's impossible to sleep. (I was there in end of January)
- Mariela (8/5): -
- Fabio (9/5): -
- Tania (9/5): - Yes it was a more traditional style to get used to Sharing bathrooms, but it remained clean for the next cleaner continuously, so that was always great!
- Kieron (7/5): - It's a Ryokan it was traditional inside Could have been cleaner
- Kaori (5/5): -
- Ray (9/5): Owner is very helpful. - The location is excellent for ryokan style tatatmi mat floor rooms with futons.
- Taehoon (8/5): Great location, but lacks cleanliness - Charming historic building.
Excellent location near the station and easy airport access. Poor cleanliness; pillows and blankets looked dirty.
Drafty windows made the room cold at night.
- Hannah (8/5): excellent location and cozy rooms! - excellent location close to train station and sightseeing in Tokyo. very traditional style inn.
- Amaris (6/5): -
- I Hsun (10/5): -
- MASAKI (7/5): -
- Michaela (10/5): convenient in Asakusa - its history nothing
- Koji (9/5): -

- Valerie (8/5): Absolutely charming - The old wood charm, the sliding screens, the tatami mats... it's everything I imagined when I heard the word Ryokan. The host is very helpful, gracious, and also unobtrusive. He's also put together lots of great info packs for the area. Things were delightfully old, but also very clean and in working order. You really can't beat the location, and it was a fantastic experience. I'm so grateful we gave it a shot instead of an anonymous hotel!
Also, the rooms have great aircon - might be anachronistic, but totally worth it. There's a share fridge, microwave, and kettle in the communal space downstairs. Totally my own fault - the "Japanese style" beds were harder to adjust to than I'd expected. Really ask yourself - when's the last time you slept on your floor at home and liked it? To me, it was worth it for the experience, but it didn't make for a good night's sleep.
Also, all the showers are downstairs and navigating the ancient, shallow back steps in my shower shoes was... bracing. And while the price isn't high, paying for towels always seems unnecessary.
Finally, the wifi was a little slow. Not the end of the world, but if I didn't have backup data it would have become a nuisance.
- Jerome (4/5): -
- Xavier (7/5): Good, central location, bit rustical - central location in Asakusa
owner with good knowledge of the area
possibility to keep luggage after room check out Floor bit noisy when walking
Super Lage, netter Hausherr - alles perfekt!

- Talavera brias (10/5): -
- Manu (1/5): - Old outdated and really bad
Left on first night
As my partner got allergies
Paid for one night without staying owner was kind to return money for next day
- Kazuhisa (7/5): -
- Nino (9/5): -
- omero (8/5): -
- Anna (8/5): - Authentic, comfortable and well located. Not much, the shower and toilets could be cleaner but still not bad.
- Samuel (9/5): Superb -
- Pei-en (7/5): Like staying with your cool uncle that leaves you alone and respects your space - Great location that is both central to the city and close to multiple subway lines. Owner is a great guy and actually tells you how to operate everything. Built eco-friendly. No curfew. Wifi is a major issue - furniture in room is not the comfiest and if you need to work there, good luck. Locks are insufficient to feel particularly safe.
- Chandrasekhar (9/5): Perfect and economical for 2 days when you are new in Tokyo. - Location was perfect. Little small for comfort but worth the stay due to the location., and very economical in the Asakusa area. A traditional Japanese home stay experience which was exciting for us when compared to hotel stays. Cash only for transactions, and no frills to expect.
- Rujirang (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sumi (8/5): Very old building with DIY project feel and just the very basics, but clean, no bugs, great location - Great location. A/C worked great. Toilet room was so tiny my husband could barely stand/sit down in it (he’s not overweight but tall ~6’1”).
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Maria (9/5): This is one of my top places would stay here again - Really makes you feel like your in Edo Japan while also being in a great area in the middle of Tokyo Slow WiFi and WiFi did not work upstairs
- Ekaterina (10/5): Exceptional - It's a wonderful hotel in a great location. The owner is incredibly generous and responsive. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a stay and would stay here again. It's noisy outside, but that's expected in central Tokyo.
- Saurabh (5/5): Passable -
- Sharon (8/5): Excellent Ryokan - Was very Japanese which I liked. All the facilities were available and the property was clean. The owner spoke English and was very helpful. The property was perfect for the location, just round the corner. I can’t say there was anything.
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb -
- Clifford (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tom (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lyssa (8/5): Lovely authentic Japanese ryokan in a neighborhood close to Senso-ji Temple - We liked the authentic environment of the ryokan, our host was very accommodating. We didn't like that there is an extra charge for towels
- Debra (3/5): Great location but we would not stay there again nor recommend it to others - good location, v convenient and good for sight seeing Noisy building site next door, not able to enjoy room during the day for this reason. Ryokan was only basically clean, toilets smelly upstairs, towels and bed linen could do with an update
- Olli (9/5): Superb -
- Mari (6/5): You get what you pay for - Good location close to Main Street
Had bad smell by the washing machine
There was no towel/Bath towels (must pay $)
Was nice to be able to leave baggage after check out
Over all, you get what you paid for!! Free towels
Smell around washing machine, shower area
- Dimitry (9/5): Superb - Location was perfect, as it was close to the metro line but also to Senso-ji and the surrounding shopping areas. The place was also clean, and the owner very friendly and helpful.
- Miriam (10/5): Loved it! - It was such a nice building and an interesting experience. The owner is so friendly and the interior looked amazing. Location is 10/10. For the price paid, everything went great. The soundproofing and the early morning light in the room. But that's expected for this type of structure and merely a heads-up for those who are not familiar with it.
- Ray (8/5): Very good -
- Elizaveta (7/5): Good -
- Jorge (9/5): Superb -
- Parnrada (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rita (7/5): Good ryokan, but could be more comfortable - Typical japanese ryokan. The location is very good, walking distance to one of most turistic areas.
We were worried if the futons were going to be uncomfortable, but they were really fine (although maybe if you prefer a very soft mattress, the futon may not be the best thing for you). Towels are NOT included, which was such a bad surprise.
The bed covers and pillows were not very good. The pillows were stuffed with some sort of seed or cereal, which made them uncomfortable to use, and the covers had some stuffing that was always moving to one side, leaving us a bit cold during the night.
- Lilia (9/5): Superb -
- Eileen (5/5): Okay stay for a few days - Old/authentic Ryokan. That comes with very thin walls and cold rooms, which is to be expected and there is an AC in every room, so that you can get by when you have the AC set high even in winter (still rather cool). Ok for a few days, probably not so good for families or couples who wanna have any privacy. The toilets were covered with a fabric cover, which I find a bit unhygienic. Depending on the other guests it can be quite loud and you might not sleep so well. If you stay here, be considerate of others. I Would probably not choose to stay here again.
- Aleksandrina (6/5): Beautiful, traditional place with basic amenities - I liked the style of the place. It is a very old and beautiful traditional building.
The room was warm and there was amenities such as shower gel, shampoo, washing machine, fridge as well as a tiny common room where you can have tea and coffee. The place was also very close to the metro and only 7 stops away from Tokyo station (few minutes time) Although there was an air-conditioner and the room was very warm it got cold fast because of the poor insolation so we had to have the air-conditioner on all night which I personally dislike but maybe it is it just me. The walls were also very thin so you could hear people speaking in their rooms. The bathroom and shower rooms were a bit cold but there was hot water. Keep in mind I visited in mid Feburary.
- Lachlan (10/5): Beautiful traditional accomodation ran by a lovely owner - Beautiful traditional ryokan accomodation in a great location. Building was old but the owner works very hard to make it comfortable and clean. Would highly recommend for solo travelers or a group at any time of year.
- Luke (10/5): Exceptional -
- Muhammad (9/5): Superb -
- Ana (8/5): Very good - the room was really nice and comfortable. the common places didn't feel super clean, especially the dining area.
- Magda (9/5): Superb - I enjoyed my stay at the Ryokan.
It was a beautiful house, clean, quiet and in good location.
I found the tatami very comfortable for sleeping and have no complains about the facilities. Staff was helpful and friendly.
- Alexandr (9/5): Great tatami room Ryokan vibe for amazing price in an ideal location. - The value for the money is excellent, if you are traveling on the budget but still want a prime location. The Ryokan house from 1960s has great comfortable and cinematic vibe. I stayed in Winter and it was warm and cozy. The owner is helpful and kind. Out of city centre old Ryokan room stays, this is much better than average experience. Off the busy party streets but close enough to be walking distance from all train and subway lines and great day and night attractions.
- William (7/5): Good -
- Isabelle (5/5): Cheap and touristy - Location was convenient but super touristy. The futons were comfortable to sleep on. Good if you're travelling on a budget and want to be close to lots of tourist spots and other travellers. You have to pay for towels so better off bringing your own. The rooms have tiny locks which were difficult to close and there was only a latch on the inside to lock the door at night.
- Cabiles (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jose (9/5): Superb -
- Rory (8/5): Worth the price and great for travellers on a budget or seeking more traditional accomodation - The Host was great, almost always available when we needed him. The rooms were large enough, and the futon beds were great. Only a 4 minute walk or so from transport, and located in a great neighborhood for site seeing, nightlife and general tourism. Room insulation was poor, but the AC and bedding was sufficient. Toilets can be a little cramped for room, and the shower heads are rather low, but could be adjusted to suit your liking. Walls are quite thin and the floor creaks, but not major problems
- Chase (9/5): Superb - Great location, good facilities, very nice host.
- Anca (9/5): Great stay - Great location.
Helpful host.
Nice shower.
Traditional house.
A shared space is available. The house/room is a bit cold in November however my room had working AC so it wasn't really a problem.
The lock of the single room is not great.
- Cecilia (10/5): Exceptional - I had an amazing stay; the owner is very helpful and attentive. After check-out, I was able to leave my luggage for some additional hours, while exploring the area. I loved the traditional room!
