Guest Reviews
- B4277ODryanj (2/5): Stay away from short hair person - First of all the radiators didn’t work and was on at all times on max heat, then the toilets were incredibly smelly and on the third day urine came up through the drain and in to our shower, and the last thing I can say is stay away from the man with short hair as he seems to hate 14 year old boys who are trying to get the food they paid for, when one of us went to serve ourselves from the food we were given he came out and said “ you just keep eating whilst we keep working smartass” which left us in wonder of what he meant, overall I would just hold the trip off for a bit and save enough for another hotel that is better than this one
- U1765EWtrevorc (8/5): Great basic budget stay in the centre of town. - We were looking for a budget-type stay for myself, my daughter, my son and his girlfriend as a trip for his 21st birthday. My daughter and my son's girlfriend had not skied before - my wife can't stand skiing so chose to stay at home!
Le Cairn has a very relaxed, homely feel and the rooms are basic but well presented; most with mountain views. In a great location as only a short walk from the Diable chair lift, our ski hire shop (below The Shackelton bar) and the town centre bars/shops. The hotel bar serves a small, but delicious, selection of Belgian beers (along with wine, spirits etc). The usual continental breakfast did not disappoint either.
There is a secure ski storage room and a terrace outside, perfect for getting kitted up into ski boots etc. There are steps up to the entrance, so not suitable if have pushchairs etc! I believe the chef can offer bespoke evening dinners for groups and I heard that the quality is excellent.
- Jess1034567889 (10/5): Good value and good location - Enjoyed our stay here alot with my friends who booked this for us! The hotel was in the Centre of town and easy access to everything. Friendly reception staff too. I would stay here again without a doubt. On check out they let us keep our stuff there before our transfer. Thanks.
- xijiayu (8/5): Convenient for ski activities - We stayed three nights at this hotel when skiing in Les Deux Alpes. Firstly, most hotels around the ski mountains in the region require a minimum of 7 night booking. This hotel gladly accepted our booking of 3 nights.
It was perfectly located in the village of Les Deux Alpes, close to ski activities, shops, supermarkets and restaurants. If you have the room facing the mountains, the view was breathtaking.
Coming from Grenoble by bus, you can get off at Maison Du Tourisme stop and the hotel is 5 minutes easy walk from there. The staff/ receptionists were always helpful and friendly, allowing us to store our luggage in the luggage room.
We were a group of six, occupying three double bedrooms. The rooms were basic, but ensuite. However, cleanliness could be improved as the rooms were not serviced everyday. There were no kettles or tea/ coffee making facilities, but you can buy your water from nearby supermarkets. In some rooms, the heaters however were too strong at night and the room could be too warm to sleep.
The buffet breakfast was included in our rate and it was actually surprisingly nice. Came with limited selection of hot foods (scramble eggs), yogurts, breads, fruits and nice juices, it was enough to fill our stomach before setting off to ski.
This hotel is only two star rated, but considering how expensive accommodation in Les Deux Alpes during skiing season, it was not cheap either.
- simonsmidt (8/5): Skiworld hotel - We booked a shortski for 6 via Skiworld in this hotel. It turns out that Skiworld, probably?, owns this place. Only Skiworld staff is working here. They do a good job, they are young rather enthusiastic and friendly.
We stayed with 6 guys in one room #9, which only had 1 toilet and 1 shower. It needed a bit of organising but since guys are not so difficult we didn't really have any issue while staying here.
Breakfast was ok, 3 course diner was good. Free bar from 17:00-22:00 and the soup is really nice.
The jacuzzi didn't work.
- tullyjones (8/5): Looking after the squad - The hotel was a base for the delegates on the BASI course and the staff looked after them extremely well especially the youngsters away from their parents.
The staff allowed the youngsters full access to the facilities and provided full board. The food was nutritious and filling and just what was needed after a day of training
- redding89 (4/5): 4 night stay - We have stayed here twice before, very disappointed this year. The place has progressively got worse, the staff were rude and unhelpful, jacuzzi facility’s no longer available, and not going to be fixed this year, yet this was not advertised. Rooms not cleaned at all during the visit and initial standard of cleanliness very poor. Wouldn’t return again.
- KarenLMn (10/5): Perfect stay in the mountains - Lovely cost hotel in a fantastic location, did not try the restaurant, but breakfast was well stocked. We definitely enjoyed the sauna and the outdoor jacuzzi with bar service was a wonderful highlight of the stay. Brilliant location for a ski holiday or even just a trip to the mountains
- juliaw612018 (6/5): Did what it says on the tin! - Clean, warm budget hotel, near the lifts, plentiful if basic food. Lovely friendly staff. Hot tub was wonderful after a day skiing, and good secure boot room for keeping all our ski gear in.
Sadly, Deux Alpes ruined by hoards of noisy drunks wandering home every night between 1-5am, shan’t return there as I quite like a decent sleep when I’ve been skiing!
- Vieveivy (6/5): Torn opinion - Part of me loves this hotel, part of me struggles with it.
I guess it comes down to you get what you pay for - it's cheap and a great location.
The spa pool is fantastic and has a lovely view, but it's only open 2 hours per day 5-7pm.
Anita is AMAZING she is super helpful and friendly I could not fault her.
Breakfast is fine maybe a little basic but what's served is fresh and the dining room is nice.
Rooms are ok, they are very very dated but clean, but the bed linen desperately needs replacing it's threadbare and uncomfortable to sleep on, the same goes for the towels.
My biggest issue by far was the smell! The toilet STANK or sewage and the bathroom of something rotten!! To the point you kept the doors closed and didn't use them unless absolutely necessary! The shower was falling of the wall you had to hold it to use it and the water pressure was non existent! I'm not sure if this was just an issue in our room or all rooms.
I would stay here again mostly for use of the spa and only if it was one of the cheaper options available!!
- Ildikotrans (8/5): perfect holiday - Again we went back to Hotel le Cairn where we spent beautiful 6 days. My husband can ski so he went on and I stayed in the hotel or wnet walking in the village. I always make friends with the very friendly staff and practice my English or my very poor Frebch, learn new recipies from the cook. take care, János will always catch you for another drink in the bar or will i9nvite you the Pub Windsor, which also run by them. Usually we had dinner in the hotel since we were booked with half board but for lunch we tried the restaurant below the hotel where you can get fantastic pizza or local dishes. I am not mistaken this was the 5th time when we went back to this hotel but we will return for sure. Thanks a lot.
- Dr_boghy (10/5): Nice place, nice people - Stayed there for a week in March. Overall the conditions are ok, the rooms are clean, good breakfast. The staff and the owners are very friendly and helpful with any information. I will definetly return.
- 851caitlins (8/5): Basic but lovely - We spent a week at this hotel while skiing and found it to be great for the price. It is very basic but you get what you pay for, our view from our room was amazing, breakfast was nice, the hot tub is lovely and the staff were welcoming and helpful. The shower was the worst part, you have to hold it whilst you shower and it was either boiling or freezing but apart from that it is fine for people looking for somewhere cheap and cheerful to stay.
- Lindsay_Rodger (10/5): Our Second Stay at Le Cairn - This is our second stay at Hotel Le Cairn in our home away from home. This hotel is has a family vibe and we were treated to a very warm welcome by the staff. We stayed on a B&B basis this time and the breakfast provided by the hotel (typical continental) catered for everyone's requirements. The hotel is situated 5 minutes walk from the main lift / gondola and is surrounded by local bars, restaurants and shops. We dined in the restaurant downstairs one night and the food and service mirrored the excellent standards of the hotel. The rooms were basic but warm and had plenty of storage / hanging space for our luggage. Our favourite feature of the hotel was the outdoor spa which runs 5pm-7pm and was the perfect way to recharge after a day on the slopes. There is a secure storage area for your skis / boards also. Wi-Fi also worked a charm.
If we return to Les 2 Alpes we shall not hesitate to book the Le Cairn :)
