Independently owned for the last 40 years by Gordon who is just the nicest man on the face of the planet. It was a privilege to be his guest . Breakfast all home cooked and the best .

- Glenn (10/5): - Charming older hotel in aging town. we were comfortable and safe. Owner was fun to talk too. restuarant next door was a 10/
expedia double booked us but otherwise no problem.
- Barbara (10/5): - The motel provided a wonderful home-cooked breakfast. The gentleman at the front desk was very friendly and hospitable. We would definitely stay here again!

Gordon is very accommodating and knowledgeable about the area.
- cav1865 (8/5): Delightfully Affordable and Comfortable Prairie Gem - The Bunkhouse Motel, Guernsey, Wyoming, is a delightful, affordable, and comfortable prairie gem you must not pass up. I was traveling on the Oregon Trail, June 2025, and knew Guernsey, Wyoming, was centered on many historic sites on the Trail. I try to patronize America’s Ma and Pa motels and knew the Bunkhouse Motel is directly on the Trail and also on US Highway 26.. The motel surprised me as to its quality, affordability, and comfort. It also has a wonderful quirkiness about it too.
I have three important criteria of any lodging property, be it a 5-star international resort or a quaint Ma and Pa motel: 1. Safety, 2. Comfort, and 3. Value.
For safety, the Bunkhouse Motel is in the small rural town of Guernsey. Not a lot goes on here after 5 p.m. The quiet peaceful town lends itself to a comfortable place to stop. The one-story motel has external doors with cut-key locks. The inside of the door does not have a security chain system, but rather a deadbolt system. The solid entrance door shut and locked well. Inside, the sink and mirror are separated outside of the toilet and bathtub/shower. The bathtub/shower does not have grab bars, but is an easy step over and in. All appliances in the room worked and were in good condition. In short, I felt safe in the room.
For comfort, the bed. pillow, and bedding, were flawless. Slept well. Towels and washcloths were fresh, folded, and spotless. A quirk is a saddle stirrup is a towel holder. Nice touch. Lots of hot water too. The rooms have coffee makers. I did not use any available WiFi.
For value, I couldn’t beat the price: less than $100 a night as compared with higher lodging east.. Also the motel has a delightfully clean and inviting dining area for the delicious and hot complimentary breakfast. Home made cinnamon rolls and superb breakfast burritos. Plus freshly ground coffee. What a treat!
In short: the owners of the Bunkhouse Motel clearly take great pride in their property, and it shows. Please give it a look if you are in that part of Wyoming or on the Oregon Trail. I wish Trip Advisor would give a .5 rating too: such as 3.5, 4.5, etc. I could give the Bunkhouse Motel a 4.5 rating if I could.
One last thing: Say hello to “Garth” the friendly motel cat.
- Jesse (10/5): - Great breakfast, great owners
- Carol (10/5): Tons of charm - Great little place with tons of charm. Our 2 queen bed room was a bit tight as far as space, but we were comfortable regardless. Everyone was super nice
- Pamela (10/5): - Super friendly staff . Very informative and lay back. The property was very nostalgic and well maintained. It's obviously dated, but that's part of the charm.. The included breakfast was great. It's very convenient location period. I would love to go back there again
- Chris (8/5): Diamond in the Rough. - This is an older hotel but has a lot of character and the owner was a super nice guy that I really enjoyed speaking with at breakfast! He recommended going and seeing the Oregon Trail Ruts, which I did when I left and that was very interesting as well.
- Crystal (10/5): Good stay for a quick trip! - Great stay for a weekend trip to the lake. Would stay again if in the area. Breakfast was decent, but not a ton of options. Overall it was clean and felt safe, would recommend to others when staying in the area.
- Paul (10/5): Older motel with great service - Excellent value for money motel. The owner Gordon was super friendly and gave us some travel tips.
- Anna (6/5): - It was a standard old motel. Very clean, nice staff.
- Thomas (10/5): - Wonderful, cute, close to grocery and restaurant
- David (8/5): - A quiet place in a small town. The manager was very nice and helpful. Stay for the breakfast.
- KEVIN (10/5): - Good place to stay. Old and needs some work but the owners are wonderful friendly people.
- paulsG4753TC (10/5): Not too fancy but clean and quiet - As I stated in the title, this is a basic , reasonably priced motel. The breakfast had a limited selection, compared to some motels, but the homemade breakfast burritos were incredible, and the coffee was good. The real highlight was Gordon, the proprietor. He was very welcoming and was always helpful. Additionally, he is a rockhound, as is my wife. he very generously showed parts of his collection and shared some great rock hunting pointers. Thank you Gordon, we hope to see you sometime again in the future.
- Greg (6/5): - The wifi didnt work. Old but clean. Mattress OK at best. Continental breakfast was not available.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Homemade and friendly - Very cozy and comfortable place. If you want a fresh, home cooked breakfast and friendly helpful staff, this is the place for you!
- Ashley (10/5): - Cute mom and pop motel nothing fancy, but very clean. Staff is so friendly and helpful from the front desk to the housekeeping staff. Yummy homemade breakfast available and the biscuits and gravy were excellent! Highly recommend!
- Joe (10/5): - Country style and cozy
- David (8/5): - Garth the Cat
- Terri (8/5): - Older Hotel but was clean. Staff was friendly.
- jimsue77lc (10/5): OLD-FASHIONED COMFORT IN GUERNSEY, WYOMING AT THE BUNKHOUSE MOTEL - My husband and I enjoyed an overnight stay here this past September. The Bunkhouse Motel was full of "Old West Bunkhouse charm" - if a bunkhouse can be considered "charming"! Conveniently located on the Oregon Trail, less than a block from the North Platte River on US 26 in historic Guernsey, this small, rustic motel is an excellent place to "hang your hat", relax, and explore the beautiful, interesting area.
The Bunkhouse Motel is well maintained, and its owner is friendly and very accommodating. Our room was exceptionally clean, had ample storage and 21st Century comforts, including private bath/shower, mini-fridge & microwave, coffee maker, cable tv and free wi-fi. The motel's "cowboy" feel extended to our room's decor, with cedar cross-beamed ceilings, saddle stirrup towel holders, and hitching post clothes posts. No bedrolls here: the beds were very comfortable. The Bunkhouse is 100% smoke-free, and all rooms are on one-level with "at your door" parking.
A delicious, full "cowboy breakfast" is served daily. We enjoyed homemade biscuits and gravy, eggs, sausage, potatoes, and burrito fixin's, as well as yummy fresh cinnamon rolls. All is freshly prepared and available with juices, milk and coffee in the main office building, in a nice, separate breakfast room.
The owner is very knowledgeable about the Guernsey area and Wyoming. We greatly appreciated visiting with him and learning more of the town's history. Guernsey State Park, Wyoming's largest, is within 5 minutes of the motel. Other places worth a visit are all within a few minutes from town: Oregon Trail/Guernsey Ruts; Register Cliff State Historic Site/ Pony Express Site; Fort Laramie National Historic Site; Hartville, oldest incorporated town in the state. For golfers, 9-hole Trail Rut Golf Course is just south of Guernsey, on the N. Platte River.
We recommend The Bunkhouse in Guernsey, Wyoming to fellow travelers, and will stay here again when we return to this area!
- Kiki (10/5): - The owner was super friendly and have lovely recommendations for sites to see in and around town. Very clean and spacious rooms as well. The only place we will stay from now on when we are in guernsey.
- Melissa (10/5): - Bunkhouse motel is a clean and very affordable place to stay! It was like walking back in time as the owners were kind, attentive, breakfast was homemade and thoughtful. I would stay here again if I am in the area.
- Janae (10/5): - The staff here are friendly and accomodating.
- Robert (10/5): - Friendly staff and really clean room. Quiet area and convenient location.
- Pam (10/5): - Loved the rustic feel here. Nice comfortable rooms in a quiet area. Very friendly staff. The breakfast was excellent. Lots of homemade goodies.
- Alexander (10/5): - Quaint inn I loved the staff.
- Jackie (8/5): - Staff was very friendly and room was clean and comfortable. Area was beautiful and Guernsey lake amazing to go out and explore
- Stan (10/5): - Sweet boutique motel. Very hearty Breakfast. Excellent service. Rhonda at the desk very knowledgeable and helpful. Room clean, rustic, worn and could use paint. Overall I highly recommend for an inexpensive clean safe room. Call property direct. Our online reservation got tangled up. Rhonda at the desk was great getting it untangled.
- Jamie (10/5): - This was a very basic stay, it allowed our pets and had everything we needed. The beds were more comfortable than others we've had. The breakfast was complementary but had a few more options than others. We are grateful they are so easy going and friendly.
- Kathrine (10/5): Cute and Rustic - This is a cute, rustic place to stay. We stayed one night. It was clean and comfortable.
- RE (10/5): - The property is older, but very well maintained. The owners are lovely people and very helpful! I would definitely recommend this property to my friends and family, and will stay again if I find myself back in this area.
- Krystal (10/5): - Rooms were simple but comfortable.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The grounds are shabby and could use some TLC, but the staff and breakfast were excellent!
- David (10/5): - Rustic and quaint. Not many options in this area and it was rated the highest and was almost full. Nice and helpful proprietor and had breakfast. Beds comfortable and clean.
- Hans-Joachim (10/5): - Jederzeit wieder
- Linda (10/5): - Style of property and furnishings unique to name of property.
- Jeanne (10/5): Great homemade breakfast - Clean older motel. Great homemade burritos & cinnamon rolls for breakfast, along with several other options. Owner was super friendly & offered travel advice & a map. There is a friendly mascot cat on the property. Don't miss visiting the historic Oregon Trail wagon ruts in the area!
- James (8/5): - Owner was great and helpful
- Raymond (10/5): - Great value, good location. The owner Gordon is super welcoming and very knowledgeable about the area. The breakfast is home cooked and has many food choices. Would definitely stay again!
- Ellen (10/5): - Really homey, vintage feel. Friendly, welcoming owners with a personal touch. This is my go to spot to stay when passing through Guernsey.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Go ahead, book this one! - The manager was amazing!
- Kim (8/5): - Quiet. Manager is very nice. Good breakfast
- Paul (10/5): - Great place for overnight. If your looking for typical corporate this is not for you, however if you want the real experience of country hospitality, lodging and home cooked breakfast this is the place.
- Alan (10/5): - I come here every year.... Homemade biscuits and gravy are delicious...
- David (10/5): - Rustic Cowboy, Reminds me of motels from the 70s
- Lawrence (6/5): - Staff was very friendly & helpful. Breakfast was OK. Room could use updating; bed average in comfort.
- Sandra (10/5): Old school comfort. - Well kept old style park in front of your room motel. Great staff and breakfast, clean and comfortable. Good place to stay to visit Fort Laramie.
- Danny (10/5): Bunk at the Bunkhouse: - We have stayed with Gordon and Valerie ever the last two Septembers. The Bunkhouse is clean and we love the “old west” decor. Good breakfast, great hosts, and overall good value. Yes, we recommend that you bunk at The Bunkhouse!
- Mark (8/5): - The accommodations were quaint but clean and comfortable. The staff couldn’t have been any nicer! Very enjoyable stay.
- Mr S (8/5): Basic budget but good - Can see what they are trying to do in recreating the bunkhouse feel in rooms but some aspects although functional could do with an update such as shower head but good shower! No hair dryer in room but asked at reception and one provided. Great value and good breakfast included.
- Charles (8/5): Bunkhouse days - Front desk was helpful with sites in area and they served a wonderful breakfast. Please add hair dryer to room.
- Malaysian92 (8/5): Excellent hospitality - Rustic and quaint motel . True to the character of the area. Beds were very comfortable and room was very clean. We were very well looked after by Gordon, the owner . He helped us with lots of information and maps. His freshly prepared breakfast of breakfast burritos and skillet cinnamon rolls were a welcome change from the usual fare at other motels. There was cereal, yoghurt, fresh fruit, boiled eggs , biscuits and sausage gravy, bagels , pastries and toast. A substantial breakfast to fill you up for the day. Nothing was too much trouble.
Would highly recommend staying here for good home comforts and hospitality. For dinner , there is a well known steakhouse in Hartville, about 5 miles from Guernsey . But a reservation is needed .
- Todd (10/5): - Very nice staff
- Susan (8/5): - Breakfast was the best part. Way above average. Room was clean but dark and dingy. Dark colored carpet and bedspreads had an old stuffy feel. Bath towels thin and scratchy. Everything worked and the surrounding area felt safe. It was quiet and the beds were comfortable. Got a good night's sleep.
- Blaine (8/5): - I liked the western home town atmosphere.
- Deanne (10/5): - This accommodation was absolutely delightful! Breakfast was wonderful, all homemade! He was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area! Would definitely stay here again!!
- Sandra (10/5): - Great stay for one night and had a great breakfast as part of the stay.
- shaun1967 (8/5): A friendly and hospitable over night stay - We stayed here one night to break up a long drive. The accomodation and decor is a little dated and tired, and there was a bit of an old room smell, as other reviews have mentioned, but our room was clean, spacious and everything worked the way it should. It was comfortable and we slept very well. Our room had a coffee maker and a refrigerator, but no hairdryer.
The owner and his staff are very welcomimg, hospitable people, and a lot of effort clearly goes into the breakfast that is provided to guests at no extra charge. The coffee is good, and there is fruit and yoghurt, as you'd expect, but the owner also prepares, fresh each morning, a range of baked items. During our stay that included biscuits and gravy, breakfact burritos, cinammon bread, a baked apple slice and also a baked rhubard dish. These were really delicious and you feel like you need to try a little of everything.
- Kelly (10/5): Fantastic little motel - Stopped here on the way to Sturgis, and the effort put into making our stay was outstanding. The guy running it was very friendly, eager to help, offered our non-staying friends breakfast on the house, and made for a very friendly stay for us. It looked like about 80% of the breakfast was homemade (biscuits, gravy, breakfast burritos, cinnamon rolls). The local cat was also a nice addition to the atmosphere :)
- Kathryn (10/5): - Our kind of place…clean, simple and parking
in front of door…and great price and comfy.
- codi (10/5): - Loved it! Met people that come every year. Great atmosphere and people. Not far off the highway, great town and great breakfast.
- Macaria (8/5): - Beautiful room and clean. Easy check in and serve breakfast, very quiet place.
- Jesse (8/5): - The staff
- Randy (10/5): - I enjoyed my stay. Good breakfast.
- Holly (8/5): - The staff was so friendly and helpful, however there were a ton of flies in our room and around the motel.
- Robert (8/5): - Quiet and friendly, very peaceful.
- Randy (10/5): Impressed - We were really impressed with our stay. You never know what you're looking at online but we very much enjoyed our stay. Really cute and friendly place and town.
- vespadue (4/5): Decent, but 2nd rate - Tired looking, cowboy themed motel. Clean but very small, cramped feeling. No hot water even after running it for a long time.
Stained carpet. Dark room. Friendly people. Decent breakfast. One of two hotels in Guernsey, WY. Priced high for what it offers.
- Chris (10/5): - Gordon is great & wonderful breakfast!
- Carl (10/5): - I loved it. Will go out of may way to stay again.
- Ria (10/5): - Great service and a really good breakfast.
- Deborah (6/5): - This place is clean. Nice people, really friendly. The cowboy themed room is very small, but adequate. Decor could use spritzing up as the older carpet is stained. Bathroom sink didn’t seem to have hot water even after I let it run for awhile. Good breakfast with lots of variety.
- laura (4/5): - Drove by & around the property & decided it had a "rent a room by the hour or month" vibe. We stayed somewhere else that night.
- Sue (8/5): - Nice bed.
- Amanda (10/5): - I was extremely impressed with this little property. The owner, Gordy, was around and making sure the homemade breakfast was ready each morning (cinnamon rolls, breakfast burritos, etc.), as well as the usual basics for a continental breakfast (cereal, yogurt, fruit, bread, other). The rooms was clean, and I loved the big windows for natural light when I worked at my little table. I was there 5 days and it was comfortable, clean, and I felt very relaxed. Walking distance to historic landmarks, a grocery store, and food options. I'm taking my whole family there as soon as possible!
- Patricia (6/5): - An old motel. Clerk was very helpful with tourist information and got key to open our room 1st time. On 2nd time a burly biker opened it for us. Table light didn't work. Bathroom door squeaked. Breakfast was okay. Overpriced.
- Christine (10/5): Great motel - Great locally owned motel. Owner was super nice, room was clean and comfortable, after hours check in was easy and breakfast was great. Would stay again!
- Tracy (10/5): Nostalgic and Quaint! - While this is an older mom and pop hotel without all the fancy trimming we enjoyed our stay. Owners are awesome and super helpful and friendly. They are working hard to update and fix any issues. Would stay here again .
- Gary (6/5): - If you are looking for a rustic ma and pa type location off the beaten path this is the place. It was clean and interesting.
- James (6/5): - The facility is an older style basic locally owned unit. The breakfast was basic and the breakfast burritos were hot and delicious. The hot water was very slow.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice - Room was clean and quiet, breakfast quite tasty.
- yongsuk (6/5): - Staffs are friendly. Room smells so bad. It smells like the smell of mold with smoking. Bathroom is too small to seat on the toilet. Towels smell not good. Breakfast is simple. Another room is checked, but smells the same.
- Eric (8/5): - Present staff quiet stay
- Margaret (8/5): - This is a fun property. It’s quieter than you’d think being located on the main drag through town but the courtyard parking helps keep the road noise at bay. We enjoyed sitting outside of our room in the evening.
There is a grocery store within walking distance as well as a pizzeria. Rhonda (at the front desk) was very nice and helpful.
- 511dedes (10/5): Great Western motel - We stayed at the Bunkhouse Motel for 5 nights on our trip to Wyoming. Gordon was a great host/owner that was there every morning as well as during the day. They offered a home cooked breakfast daily - cinnamon buns, cereal, biscuits and gravy, banana bread, fruit, coffee, tea and juice! Gordon was also a wealth of local information on all the sites in and around Guernsey. He was so informative and kind! The rooms were western themed and clean. They also had daily room cleaning which is rarer these days. Garth, the resident cat became a good friend of ours as well! We hope to return to this area in Wyoming soon!
- Gwen (10/5): - Clean. Comfortable bed. Room was quaint and rustic. Wife said it was "cute". Very nice friendly people, breakfast was good.
- Lee (6/5): The Bunkhouse in Guernsey - Very low light. Wall plugs won’t hold a cord. Probably won’t stay again. Just feels used up.
- Teresa (6/5): - Kind of old and rundown. Front desk clerk was nice and helpful
