Unless you are drunk, you will have a hard time sleeping here. I know we did not pay for luxury, nor did we get it. But having to listen to karaoke (of course) from the bar below is just obnoxious. As a european from continental Europe, i was surprised to learn that it is normal to blast music after 10 PM. Upon arrival we were told that there's a karaoke tonight by the the bartender from the bar, who was also the "host" or at least the person who handed us the keys.. Nothing could have been done at that point since it was late and this "housing" was already paid. Nonetheless, we hoped it would not be that bad. Oh boy, was i wrong. We measured 45 decibels on average in the ream from the hell-pit downstairs. It might not sound like much, but give it a shot - and then try to sleep in this. After discussion with the "host" they allegedly have a license to play until 1 AM, that karaoke was there for years and that nothing can be done - very customer centric approach right there! According to the Scottish laws, after 11 PM the noise level should not exceed 31 decibels. It is also backed by Falkirk council (source here: https://www.falkirk.gov.uk/nuisances/noise-nuisance) that such thing is a problem. The whole situation has been reported to Booking and a refund has been requested. Will reach out to Bow hospitality (https://bowhospitality.co.uk/venues/the-black-bull-polmont/) regarding this matter that they adjust the listing details to reflect that this is very likely to happen. On an unrelated note, the shared bathroom is also kinda hideous and one of them cannot even be locked. EDIT: email to the Bow hospitality has been sent to multiple addresses i scrubbed online since their online form doesn't work - that nicely follows the story how this company works.

Staff not always available because it's linked to a bar. Very loud at night, both due to bar and washing machine. Lots of black mold in the bathroom. No bath. No desk. A bit bland. Not really any extras, other than the typical complimentary body wash and coffee/tea.

• Mary (9/5): Really comfortable, value for money, and great location from which to take a day trip to Edinburgh. - The room and ensuite were really clean and spacious. The bed was large and very comfortable. It was excellent value for money. Pub noise wasn’t a problem, even though it was busy in there. We added a second night and did a day trip by train into Edinburgh instead of driving. The Black Bull is only 15 minutes walk from the station, and the train ride is about 25 minutes into central Edinburgh. It was perfect.

The barmaid showed me to the room and was friendly and stated what I should do upon leaving. Parking was adequate and plenty there. Fellow guests/Workers outside my window smoking and coughing up phlegm at 6am. Not what you want to wake up to at 6am. No shower gels and very small towels. I walked across to the ALDI store across the street to grab some shower gel, which was luckily still open.

The location is great; the facilities simple, but the room was spotlessly clean, and the bed comfy. There's a side entrance to the rooms, so you don't need to go through the bar, but I did enjoy a pint there before bedtime. The Saturday night karaoke wasn't the most tuneful, but in fairness it didn't disturb my sleep.

Bed was comfortable with the window having both blind & curtains to help block out the light. Good-sized bedroom with the shared bathroom close by. A small bit of outside noise due to the road, shower wasn't the most powerful (and the bathroom light didn't switch off so there was some light leaking into the room from the hallway). Not the best first impression of arriving into the pub to pass smokers smoking within the front hallway area.

The accommodation was not too far from the train and there were takeaways and a supermarket nearby. All the bathrooms were old and all of the shared bathrooms had issues that had not been repaired making them nearly unusable and certainly unpleasant.

Le lit était comfortable et le logement très proche de l'aéroport ce qui est parfait pour rendre la voiture de location tôt le matin. La personne au pub était très disponible lors du check in. Malheureusement j'ai passé une très mauvaise nuit en raison de punaise de lit qui m'ont dévoré toute la nuit. J'ai informé l'hôte par message car personne pour faire le check out mais aucune réponse. Grosse déception j'espère qu'ils ont pris en compte mon message car la chambre 4 doit être désinfecter impérativement et nettoyer avant d'être de nouveau loué. Les nids sont dans la tête de lit comme sur les photos partagées. Sans cette mauvaise expérience j'aurai recommandé le logement mais dans ces conditions et le fait de ne pas avoir eu de réponse à mon message je ne peux le recommander.

On our welcome the staff member was very helpful as to where we could eat during our stay. Rooms were tidy and very comfortable. As it was a last minute booking I would have liked our own bathroom instead of shared bathroom. I have to say this didn't put us off as the facilities were very good and clean for the price paid.

Glad the room wasn't in the main pub as could have been noisy but it was around the corner with separate entrance so was quiet enough. Comfortable bed. Private bathroom. No desk. No sink. Viewed the property on several sites, some of which referred to the food available, as did some of the reviews. On arrival found they no longer do any food. Also booking stated private bathroom but found 2 shared bathrooms for 6 rooms and one of these was out of order.

No private bathrooms. There were two nice and clean communal bathrooms available. The only other guests there were a very friendly Scottish couple. We were checked in by the same lady who runs the pub downstairs. She was super nice and accommodating, welcomed us like old friends. The local pub downstairs did not serve food but we were invited to bring in our own take-out. The lady even provided us with plates and silverware. We tried their local cider and beer. Delicious! Overall, it was a great experience. It felt like we were visiting our (Scottish❤️) family. We chose the Blackball for our last night in Scotland for the great price, free parking and proximity to the airport. it worked out great.

• Catherine (3/5): No working wifi and not clean. - The staff was friendly enough, and the beds were comfortable. There are a couple restaurants/stores within walking distance. The biggest complaints I had about this place was (1) the wifi is non-existent and (2) there was no toilet paper in the morning and the staff was MIA. I am trying to be as understanding as possible as this is an inn and not a hotel, but it was nearly impossible to get in contact with a staff member outside of the bar opening hours (evenings). I also couldn't figure out how to use the shower (I'm not from the UK), and had to grab someone from downstairs to help me figure out how to turn it off. The staff member who helped was very lovely, but if they had explained it to us when we checked in, that would have saved a lot of trouble. Speaking of the shower, the drain seemed clogged so the water pooled after a few minutes. Also, it was around 30 degrees when we visited and the room was very hot and stuffy, even with the window open. Maybe they could provide fans in the future as the summers are getting hotter. Lastly, there were grease and dirt stains inside the dresser. I opened it once and tried not to think about it the duration of the stay.

• lysbeth (6/5): Prima inn op een goede locatie. - De locatie is perfect. Op loopafstand van het trein station om naar Edinburgh te gaan. In het hotel kun je niet eten maar om de hoek is een eetgelegenheid waar je heerlijk kunt eten tegen een goede prijs. En er is een aldi. De bedden waren goed. De douche. We moesten koud douchen. Er was geen warm water.

• Franz (5/5): Die Zimmer waren sehr schön, aber auch sehr laut. - Wir hatten zwei Zimmer gebucht. Eines war angenehm groß, das zweite sogar sehr groß. Im zweiten gab es einen Sitzbereich und ein sehr breites Doppelbett. Es gab zwei Duschen zur Auswahl, allerdings um einen Halbstock versetzt. Unter uns war das Pub und an diesem Abend war Karaoke bis nach Mitternacht in einer Lautstärke als würde es im Zimmer nebenan stattfinden. An Schlaf war bis zum Ende nicht zu denken. Wir wurden bei der Ankunft diesbezüglich auch nicht vorgewarnt.

• Jørn (8/5): Black Bull overrasket positivt - Bedre enn forventet. God størrelse på rommet og sengene. Koselig pub med bra utvalg av drikkevarer. Manglet såpe i dusj/håndvask, men med nærbutikk som nærmeste nabo var det raskt å kjøpe det man trengte.

• Marta (4/5): Da non ripetere - Posizione comoda per aeroporto e gentilezza del personale Stanza sporca, bagno condiviso sporchissimo, la fortuna che siamo stati pochissimo perché avevamo il volo di mattina presto, e abbiamo trascorso lì solo qualche ora. Non c’era nemmeno la luce in stanza, solo quelle da comodino. Rapporto qualità prezzo mediocre. Mai più.
