Guest Reviews
- Karen (10/5): Very enjoyable - A beautiful hotel in a great location
Staff were very attentive. Food was great and would definitely stay here again. Nothing
- Christine (8/5): Over many years this is our third stay at the Hoste and hopefully we will return again - The friendly staff and the relaxing atmosphere and the food. The room was a bit small, but excellent value
- Cornelis Jan (9/5): -
- David (10/5): -
- Robert (9/5): Lovely village nice shops interesting area - Good breakfast comfortable dining room Limited parking
- Nigel (8/5): - Comfortable room albeit a bit tired .. the owners have plans and budget to update the guest rooms at the Hoste.. look forward to experiencing that..
The breakfast was excellent and they went above and beyond in delivering gluten free options.
The evening meal needs to be booked as this place is understandably very popular.
Staff are really friendly and helpful..
All in, a great stay and highly recommended.
- Frances (9/5): -
- Susie (9/5): I would return. Burnham Market and surrounding countryside is beautiful!! - Lovely hotel, fantastic location, staff excellent, food was fabulous Mattress was a little too firm
- Peter (10/5): - Quality of accommodation, friendly and highly professional staff. Couldn't do enough to ensure our needs were met and our stay was enjoyable. Food and service in the restaurant was equally as good.
- Jill (9/5): -
- Sinead (10/5): -
- Catherine (8/5): Nice overnight stay with dogs - Very friendly, country and dog friendly . Bed was uneven. Comfy on each side but definitely no cuddles in the middle
- Jayne (10/5): A great stay - We stayed in a ‘comfy’ room but it was lovely. Breakfast was delicious with lots of choice.
- wendy (10/5): -
- Paul (4/5): Disappointed, preferred the hotel before the refurbishment. All the little extras which made the stay special, have all go - We enjoyed breakfast, the ingredients are always good quality. Unfortunately the room allocated on arrival, was not to our taste. My husband referred to it as the crypt. Dark,Dingy!! Also could smell dog. We did change rooms the next day. We decided to leave early after a poor nights sleep. Due to noise from downstairs.
- Gill (10/5): -
- Allison (8/5): Wonderful stay but a bit noisy if you are in a room over the pub! - The location is ideal and the refurbishment has been completed to a high standard. Staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. Our room was directly above the bar and it did not have effective soundproofing or complimentary earplugs.
- Tracey (8/5): -
- Adrian (9/5): Relaxing, enjoyable stay - Welcoming, friendly staff. Well located. Good breakfasts. We found the bed uncomfortable.
- Susanne (9/5): Facilities good weather cold - Location service staff Bed was bit firm for our taste
- Leena (10/5): - Everything Nothing all great
- Bronwen (10/5): Wonderful. Only criticism was that it was too short. - Great food, great staff, comfy beds, good atmosphere. Really happy I stayed here. The Hoste has been at the heart of the village for years. In recent times it has rather dipped and it is lovely to see it coming back. Nothing.
- Michael (8/5): Perfectly acceptable - Great location and very comfortable Food is expensive
- Patrick (9/5): We will be back - Very friendly staff, great food, plenty of parking
- Jason (10/5): -
- George (9/5): Fantastic stay, warm welcome and tasty breakfast. - The staff, decor, the facilities, the location and the breakfast. The bed was a little uncomfortable.
- Susan (9/5): - Beautiful, cosy hotel in a lovely location. Very good breakfast and the food in the restaurant was good too.
Nice pub attached. Dogs were allowed in all areas. As someone who is allergic to many dogs there was no where to sit where We were guaranteed not to be near one.
- Norden (10/5): Will definitely be back! Fantastic - A gem. Great location for exploring the area or even if you just want to enjoy the hotel and the peacefulness of the countryside. The rooms are spacious, bright, got everything you need. Bed and pillows were comfortable. Breakfast and dinner were delicious (best fish&chips I’ve had), staff is lovely, design was warm. Will definitely be back. Stairs to the second floor rooms, with no lift. Also an amenity kits in the bathroom would have been nice addition.
- Victoria (10/5): -
- David (10/5): Lovely stay for birthday weekend. - Staff friendly and helpful

Very dog friendly Can't think of anything
- Suzanne (10/5): Would 100 per cent stay again - Upmarket venue, great comfortable room .. high standard of bedding and super comfy bedding .. good was excellent .. brilliant location .. gym cinema and spa options set in a lovely location for shopping and walks x
- Levena (9/5): - We stayed at the Hoste around a year ago an and since then there has been a noticeable improvement in the decor, service and quality of food. Not saying it was poor before it was good, but there has been a noticeable improvement. quality of the food, cleanliness, rooms have been decorated and the staff were friendly and helpful. Shawn who is the manager is great, friendly and just want you need in the restaurant, makes you feel very welcome. Breakfast was superb.
- Fleur (10/5): - The rooms were so amazingly decorated with beautiful little touches! The pictures honestly don't do it justice. The staff are SO lovely and welcoming, especially in the restaurant. The pub part is lovely and cosy and the area is so sweet, full of local family owned shops and rustic friendly pubs. Beautiful beaches short drives away and lovely local hikes! Definitely recommend. - Not sound proofed rooms but not the end of the world as people were quiet and respectful.
- A little pricey in the restaurant and bar but I personally think it is worth it for the amazing quality and excellent hospitality and friendly service
- Karen (10/5): Absolutely perfect. We’ll be back. - Everything, location, staff, food. Mattress was hard but that’s just personal preference
- Michael (9/5): Over all my wife and I had a wonderful day at the host and will be returning at some point soon - Very polite, knowledgeable and friendly staff very comfortable bed in room Drinks were a little pricey
- John (8/5): Very enjoyable stay! - Most of it. Breakfast was great, bar area also. Duvet far too heavy but lovely room. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay as this is not our first visit and will definitely not be our last! Duvet far too heavy!
- Mark (9/5): -
- RICHARD (9/5): A great stay in a great location will certainly go again. - Great breakfast, lots of options. Room very clean and suitable for our needs. Glass shelf in bathroom was locaterd just above sink which was not practical for brushing teeth.
- george (9/5): Enjoyable short break - Breakfast and dinner N/A
- Amanda (9/5): We stayed in the vine hotel room. Lovely room with all you could need . - Amazing breakfast. Plenty of choices. Nothing.
- Sarah (10/5): Relaxing, good atmosphere and extremely comfortable - Wonderful location lovely decor
- Julie (7/5): Despite our disappointment with the restaurant, we loved absolutely everything else about our stay at the lovely Hoste. - The restaurant manager was unwelcoming and rude when we arrived at the restaurant in the evening. He didn’t speak to us at all! Showed us to the table and walked off!
I ordered fish n chips and didn’t enjoy the chips at all, they tasted like frozen chips which I definitely wouldn’t expect from The Hoste.
We ordered tea and coffee at breakfast and waited for about 30 minutes for it to arrive, after us prompting twice. We watched 3 tables that had seated after us recieve their drinks!
- Grahame (10/5): Great place to relax and enjoy the surrounding area - Great location. Good food. Attentive staff. N/A
- Alex (7/5): -
- William (8/5): -
- Jennifer (9/5): Last minute good deal for a quality hotel - Character -
- Jason (10/5): Relaxing and comfortable stay in pleasant surroundings - Relaxed atmosphere. Friendly staff. Excellent food. Comfortable rooms. Extremely clean. Superb location. That we had to leave!!
- Geoff (9/5): -
- Robyn (10/5): -
- Janet (9/5): Wonderful will save up and come again! - Luxury room- excellent walk in shower. Lots of steps but hand rails everywhere! Staff friendly and attentive. Nooks and crannies to sit with a book instead of a large lounge . Menus excellent Parking limited. Food and drink on the expensive side
- Alexandra (7/5): -
- Stuart (8/5): -
- f7cb340bac4470e9b80be909591ccac2 (10/5): Lovely, warm Hotel. Loved the decor, the staff, the food and the location. - Located in Burnham Market, right on the quiet high street. Breakfast was excellent! We couldn't fault it!
- c8cafb2096e6739b02468e23f2ba2f5f (10/5): - Hoste is superb top to bottom
Really good No faults Nothing
- eb912cf7f56b710bc9208f0ace2cb8dc (5/5): Wouldn’t go back - The area this hotel is in is beautiful
Sadly I’ve scored the staff low because of one particular barmaid who was sarcastic and unnecessary all the other staff members were lovely The room was very small the bed was small the bathroom was cramped as you cleaned your teeth you had to be careful not to knock yourself out leaning forward with the shelf that was there ! the wardrobe was ridiculous couldn’t put a weekends worth of clothes. Would hate to think if you stayed longer Horrible view from window all roofs dreadful
We asked for a room with a walk in shower and dog friendly. So we were put upstairs which had a winding staircase it did however have a walk in shower where the shower head burst open we had to screw it together when we checked out I did ask if they had any ground floor rooms and she said oh yes. Ah I see you asked for a walk in shower - I should have asked for a ground floor room but thought it was obvious. -
The young barmaid we asked just simple questions and she was sarcastic and very unhelpful. Maybe she needs more training
One of the questions was which door is open of a nighttime so we can take the dog out if necessary She obviously knew the answer but said I’m only a waitress just a waitress in an awful manner. This wasn’t the first time her sarcasm hit either. I’d say she knew as we found out every door is open
Our friends stayed in another room it was smaller and in the loft where they hit there head a few times because of the slanted roof Now thinking about it all I’m not sure it was worth the money we paid
- ce7fa5153a9870df36a9ffd42ec94960 (7/5): - Location, room was lovely reception staff really welcoming Shower bath, not a shower
- d69d57accaf070f9ce843f229ad8a5ca (10/5): Grat place to stay - Really excellent stay. I booked the hotel very last minute but they were ready for me when I arrived. Room was good and food was excellent.
- cfab84ff77e772f316bb5935b98cc849 (10/5): Great place to stay. I will be visiting again - Fabulous property . Very well presented.Super clean . The staff were great. The food was super tasty . Nothing at all to fault. Nothing
- 81b666c5082f701fce34f0b57233c69d (10/5): Excellent - would thoroughly recommend. - Staff were exceptional. Whilst the location was perfect and the hotel nice it is the service that will ensure we return. Nothing.

- dd64088eff3073d2fddbc79c0b1af249 (8/5): -

- Elizabeth (9/5): Last minute treat and it was perfect. - Great staff, friendly and knowledgeable. Made you feel very much at home. Nothing, it was great
- Joanne (7/5): -
- Karen (10/5): A wonderful couple of days made special by awesome customer service - Great location, fantastic staff
- edward (10/5): Great! Had a lovely time and the staff were exceptional - Great location, clean, comfortable with a great atmosphere. Lots of places to relax with a drink Limited parking
- David (5/5): Spoilt by restaurant service - On the The bus route for all the coast Restaurant service was not very good
- Mark (4/5): With so much other accommodation around in the area I would try somewhere else next time. - Great location in a very pretty village and area We thought the rooms were quite basic for the price paid
- Nicola (8/5): - Comfortable hotel in a lovely village. Money has been spent on new outdoor furniture and planting which has lifted the exterior. Staff are generally very good and it often has a buzzy atmosphere
We didn’t try the food other than breakfast as we’ve had not so good dinner experiences here under previous ownerships before however did hear other guests say the food was really good so we’ll try it next time. Very welcoming to dogs Whilst closed for renovations it wouldn’t have hurt to have the bedroom carpets steam cleaned and have the bath panels and vanity painted which would have made a huge difference to the feel of the bedroom. Breakfast not as good as previous visits. It can also take a very long time to get a drink!
- Dluha (9/5): -
- Clive (9/5): Excellent very central to some great beaches for walkers - Excellent good choice and great service
- Alexander (9/5): Great 1 night stay - The room was lovely, perfect for our 1 night stay. I liked the fact that it had a fridge, and although I didn't use the mini bar, it was nice to have the option as in the evening there's only one little shop open in the village. The complimentary tea, hot chocolate, brownie and milk was appreciated, and the coffee too.
The staff were very friendly and only too happy to help. My only very minor issue is that the shower head seemed a little loose where it fixes onto the pipe, it did cause some water to spray around the bathroom when I tried to adjust it slightly.
I also wouldn't mark down the room for this, do I have not factored this into my overall score, but as a note to attach to my review I would say the food was a little pricey and it was a bit of a shame they had almost run out of one dish by 17.30, my partner had to amend her order. Not a huge issue for her but some people have limited options due to dietry requirements, so to find things not being served at that early time is a little disappointing. Service was good though.
- Vicky (10/5): Fantastic! - Fantastic room. Great food. Great staff. Great location. Coffee machine leaked. We just took the reservoir off when we were not using it.
- David (8/5): Very god , facilities were good , lovely area. - Hotel , local area . Hotel food a bit pricey.
- Rebecca (7/5): Nice if it's your thing, but not my preference - Burnham Market is very lovely. A small place, but with lots of character and a friendly atmosphere. The hotel is central.
Our room was large.
The food at the Hoste Inn was good, although relatively expensive, as were the drinks.
The staff were friendly and helpful. I personally don't love the traditional style of fittings and furnishings. Pelmets and tasseled heavy curtains that are tough to open and close, bery limited hanging space, mirrors that aren't lined up for human proportions, toilet roll holder that you can't reach, a limited number of useful surfaces to put our belongings on, furniture that has seen better days... etc... It's my personal preference, but I appreciate modern, clean, useful spaces that have been thought about from the perspective of the user, rather than 'a look'. It's an old set of buildings, but these can be designed thoughtfully too.
The Vine is great if you don't love doggies, but beware you'll still be tripping over them at breakfast.
- Janet (9/5): Wonderful- will go again - Well furnished and care for; staff friendly and efficient- worked as a team and helped each other out Only one socket underneath the dressing table so the light had to be unplugged to plug in the hair dryer
- Helen (7/5): Satisfactory comfortable stay in a spacious extra large room with extra large double bed. - Large spacious room, quiet, comfortable. Good extra-large double bed. Though the room was large and spacious, it was a little tired. The ensuite bathroom had a large vintage bath and overhead waterfall shower above the bath, this isn't great for hair washing and I would have preferred a smaller shower head attachment. The TV had basic channels only.
- Nicola (8/5): -
- Fleur (4/5): Average stay but not good value for money - Location Dated bedroom and bathroom
- Pauline (9/5): An excellent short break in Norfolk. - Breakfast very good, lots of options to choose from.
Hotel, pub/bar/restaurant nice and welcoming.
Location in Burnham Market excellent.
Note the other 2 restaurants/bars in Burnham closed Mon/Tues. Only given option of 6pm or 8pm for booking table in restaurant.
- Roland (9/5): - Everything was clean and tidy with polite friendly staff
- Nick (9/5): -
- Miguel (8/5): - All Noise all night outside room, sounded like a boiler or pump.
- Bronwen (10/5): Wonderful. Thoroughly recommend. - Fabulous room. Fabulous staff. Excellent food. Breakfast was excellent. Recently refurbished and very sympathetically done.
We booked a dog friendly room and they provided a dog hamper - it was so thoughtful. Nothing - all excellent.
- Melanie (8/5): Nice country hotel with a superb breakfast. - Lovely family hotel vibe with lots of dogs. Narrow stair case to reach room, no lifts.
- Chas (7/5): -
- Julie (10/5): -
- James (8/5): - Great place Expensive
- David (8/5): - Very helpful reception staff, excellent Sunday dinner
- Sam (10/5): A fantastic stay at this lovely hotel. - We loved everything about the place. Great location, lovely room, huge comfortable bed and pillows. Staff were amazing, from the manager right down to serving staff in the restaurant. With friendly chat and recommendations, nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend highly. Nothing to dislike. My only gripe was that the price of rooms had dropped considerably for our stay. We had pre booked so didn’t benefit from the drop but I guess that’s the chance you take when pre booking.
- Amy (9/5): -
- Dave (9/5): Second time we've stayed and always a great experience with friendly, helpful staff. Well done. - Evening meal was very nice, with a good variety of food to choose from.
Breakfast was excellent. Very good choice of hot and cold food. Rooms could do with USB charges within the socket outlets, otherwise a 13A plug has to be taken away as well as the charging lead.
- Anne (9/5): As always an excellent stay at The Hoste. Looking forward to another stay in a couple of months. Looking forward - Still keeps the feel of a country hotel/pub. Excellent standard of fixtures and fittings and great staff. We have visited many times and always enjoyed our stay. Unfortunately we arrived at end of major refurbishment by the company who have just acquired The Hoste. It was somewhat chaotic!!! However Sean, the new Manager, went beyond his remit to make our stay superb under rather stressful circumstances.
- Sarah (6/5): -
- Mark (10/5): Perfect stay! - Really nicely decorated room, big and with everything we needed Nothing, it was perfect
- Denise (10/5): -
- Anthony (10/5): -
