- PV (10/5): - Wow. Amazing, tranquil place. Spacious and comfortable mini house room. Bed and beddings are comfortable. Fabulous breakfast. Great garden and greenery, with a pond, in the compound. Located 5 mins drive to Fang hot spring to right next to some local vegetable field.
- IP (10/5): The one and the only one gem -Gumbie House in Fang - .Great location (if you like to explore the national Park and hot springs, relaxing in natural environment). Near entrance of which leads to the National Park,Only one hour on foot can reach there.

Rien

. Feel like at home ,always care for what you want and what need to help
. The homemade breakfast with fresh ingredients with good coffee.
. Yummy of homemade pizza and different dishes in western & Thail..
. Spacious & comfortable room with different detail in design- different room different design in color and furniture
.
- Charlesschild (10/5): We loved our stay here!!! - We loved our stay here! It is very close to the hot springs. Out in the middle of no where. So that means it was very quiet! Amazing vieww of the mountians and the farms around. The river is across the street. If you stay here you need transpertation. We would stay here again!
- Shaun (10/5): Excellent base for Doi Pa Hom Pok NP - Very comfortable room with large bed. Gardens very relaxing. Food very tasty with several homemade Northern Thai speciality dishes. Home brew beer also a delight. Owner and staff very helpful. Great stay, highly recommend. Nothing to not like here.
- Richard-CI (10/5): Charming and Welcoming Guest House - Somehow the photos don't do this charming place justice. We stayed one night travelling by motorcycle and were delighted. We booked a larger room and had views of the fields and mountains. The rooms are in a series of three or four seperate one and two story building around a garden. The large second floor room, was well equipped and the shower was the best in two weeks in Thailand so far.
Dinner (chosen at check in) was excellent and the staff super friendly and helpful. Good selection of wine and beers. Of course our experience was helped by the surprise birthday cake they presented us with, which we shared with the other two couples staying.
Not flash or brash, but charming and beguiling. Would thoroughly recommend.
- ZenDark30 (10/5): Serenity awaits you - The Gumby House is an oasis with a treasure trove of sitting spots with garden views, whimsical artwork, well kept plants, and immaculate landscaping.
The owners Soi and Roí are extraordinary hosts. Their warmth and kindness radiate throughout this well-tended compound.
They are among the few organic farms in the area and provide jobs to local villagers. They even grow and sell their own brown rice. They are a farm to table business.
All meals are beautifully presented and delicious. They serve both traditional Thai dishes as well as western meals. Soi makes her bread and they have a pizza oven for hand crafted pizzas. The coffee shop serves delicious cappuccino and other drinks. They sell gift bags of coffee, tea and other treats.
There are several cottages sprinkled about with lots of privacy and opportunity to listen to the birds in peace and quiet.
Their warmth compound has a pond, small infinity pool, dining areas and lots of paths to meander around. Nearby are the Fang Hot Springs, Fang, and the Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park. In the park is where you can hike to the top of Thailand’s 2nd highest mountain.
It’s about 2 hours from Chiang Mai and worth spending 3-4 days.
- Rose (10/5): An interesting drop off in a tour round the north of Thailand - The staff were amazing. We were looked after with care. We very much enjoyed chatting with the owners who were able to explain some of the home decor- they were bits and bibs brought back from their travels mainly to Europe. The garden is beautiful, taking breakfast surrounded by orchids with rice fields beyond is very memorable. The property is very well placed to see the hot springs and for a day in Chiang Rai We thought the breakfast should be included however the coffee is great
- Paiboon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chakkrit (9/5): Very nice view with testy dinner - Very good location Very good view
- G3743BCandyb (10/5): Stay as part of a Thailand wildlife tour - Stayed for three nights as part of a photography nature tour. The accommodation was lovely with many homely touches. Our host could not have been more helpful and accommodating, she went out of way to make our stay enjoyable. All in all a lovely little family run guest house.
- Alexander (9/5): Cosy place with a private ambiance near to the Fang Hotsprings - Romantic, peaceful, cosy, friendly staff. none
- Konrad (10/5): Konrad and Chloe - It's a fantastic and cozy place with breath taking views and some really lovely locals I can't think of anything bad to say about this place me and my girlfriend enjoy our stay.
- Anastasja (9/5): A wonderful and tranquil place to stay - The room was lovely, spacious with beautiful decor.
- Kate (8/5): Very good - Gumbie House is located a pleasant short out side Fang.
Our room was very spacious as was our bathroom.
Everything was very clean and neat.
Gumbie house has a lovely garden containing many beautiful orchids including some of unusual colours, a small pond and a cafe overlooking rice fields.
The owners and staff were very friendly
I would recommend it to other travelers. We found our bed too soft. Thai mattresses are normally rock hard and I guess the owners have tried to soften their mattress for foreigners by adding a soft top layer but we found it too soft.
We also found the bed cover to be too small. It was barely wide enough to cover the top of the bed with no one in the bed. Put two people in and then there is a big gap on either side. When we were there the weather was cold so we noticed the gap.
Minor issues which did not prevent us from enjoying our stay at Gumbie.
- Chanakan (10/5): Excellent! - Very pretty bedroom and the bathroom is big. The scenery is amazing. You can eat at the property. They have a lot of items on the menu. The staffs are very nice.
- Jörg (10/5): Exceptional - Very tasty food, large rooms and large bathrooms, comfortable big beds, beautiful setting. Breakfast starts at 8:00 h only (but a packed breakfast for an early start was offered for a higher price).
- Andrew (10/5): Delightful property. Large immaculate room, great food and lovely helpful staff - Superb accommodation, food and staff. Much better than we could have hoped for and highly recommended Faultless. The food and accommodation exceeded our expectations
- Eyal (10/5): A blissful retreat with spacious rooms, breathtaking views, and heartwarming hospitality - A Slice of Paradise in Gumbie House
I recently had the pleasure of staying at the enchanting Gumbie House, and it was nothing short of a dream. Tucked away in a perfect location surrounded by picturesque rice fields, this hidden gem is a sanctuary for those seeking tranquility and comfort.
From the moment I stepped into the house, I was awestruck by the grandeur of the spacious rooms. Each room felt like a luxurious haven, meticulously designed and adorned with all the amenities one could desire. The attention to detail was impeccable, making it clear that the owners have poured their hearts into creating a space that truly feels like a home away from home.
The highlight of my stay was undoubtedly the breathtaking view of the surrounding rice fields. Waking up to the serene beauty just outside my window was a surreal experience, and it set the perfect tone for a day of relaxation and exploration.
The bathroom was a haven in itself, featuring all the essentials and more. The thoughtful touches, such as plush towels and premium toiletries, added an extra layer of indulgence to the experience.
What truly sets Gumbie House apart, however, is the warmth and hospitality of the owners. Their genuine kindness and eagerness to make my stay memorable were evident from the start. I had the pleasure of enjoying a delightful dinner prepared by the host, showcasing not only culinary expertise but also a deep connection to the local flavors. The evening was filled with great conversation, laughter, and a sense of camaraderie that made me feel like part of the family.
In conclusion, Gumbie House is not just accommodation; it's a destination in itself. Whether you're seeking a romantic getaway, a solo retreat, or a family vacation, this haven amidst the rice fields offers an unparalleled experience. I left with a heart full of gratitude and a suitcase filled with beautiful memories. Thank you, Gumbie House, for a truly extraordinary stay! I genuinely have no negative feedback to offer; my experience at Gumbie House was flawless and delightful.
totally recommended. do note that it is not open during the entire year.

- Ak (10/5): Best of the Best - Perfect place for vaccation, it´s a paradise Nothing, for me the best Boutiqe hotel in North Thailand near Fang Hot Springs and a lot of nice roads for amazing Motor bike trips.
- Kaye (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (9/5): A lovely property with beautiful rooms & great hosts. We really enjoyed having it as our base for 5 nights and the l - We stayed in the King Room with Mountain View. The room was exceptional, large, very clean & tastefully decorated, with a huge balcony looking out over the paddy fields. Our hosts arranged packed breakfasts for us every day as we were birders and therefore leaving at 5:15am. The food was always ready on time for us to leave and was enough for breakfast and lunch! We also ate at Gumbie House every night and the food was always excellent. Sometimes the water went off after one of us had taken a shower in the evening, but it normally came back on after an hour so it wasn’t really a problem.
- Maturada (10/5): Great place with nice owners, well maintenance and clean - The resort is in the garden, feel like walking inside the house, nice owners and staff, so calm and quiet, great interior design, the decorations are so colorful and the owner’s pets are adorable The shower system is not working well when it got extremely hot and when it's cold yeah I'm freezing so would be nice if they can fix it.
- Kongwiz (8/5): Very good -
- Rob (9/5): This is a very pretty, quiet and rural area. The room is very comfortable and the food fantastic. - This is the second time we have stayed here and we have enjoyed it both times.
It’s a lovely quiet spot, the owners are very nice and the food is fabulous.
The staff are lovely as well. Everything was very nice.
- Pasa (7/5): Good - staffs were very nice. breakfast was good value.
- Iryna (10/5): Our best stay in Thailand! - We stayed at Gumbie house only for 1 night but hands down, it was the best accommodation on our 6 day Chiang Mai - Mae Salong - Chiang Rai loop. A hidden gem near Fang, a perfect base if you're heading to explore Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park or just wanting to relax and unwind for a few days in a quiet and beautiful place. You'd need a car to comfortably explore the surroundings, so if you're heading that way, do not miss it! The owners Roi and Soi (apologies if I spelled it wrong) are very lovely and welcoming people, and we thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and beautiful Thai breakfast with the view! We only regret we could not stay longer! Thank you for everything and we are hoping to be back one day! N/A
- Alan (10/5): Best of the Best. - 5 star hotel in the middle of rice paddies. Exceptional rooms and great service, all managed expertly by Soi and Roi. Highly recommended. Leaving.
- Keren (10/5): Exceptional - The location right at the base of the national park, the gorgeous property, lovely and spacious rooms, very helpful owners.
- StigSor (10/5): Pampering in top-class - At our motobike trip we had a stopover at Gumbie’s. The first we noticed was the garden that was absolutely beautiful with flowers and nice trees sorrounding the buildings. After check-in the owner pair came to us and told about the stay and the possibilities. We borrowed bikes and visited the nearby nationalpark with hot springs up to 20 meters. The dinner was served in the absolute tastefull decorated restaurant with fresh flowers and romantic atmosphere. The dinner and breakfast was exellent and we felt generally pampered through our stay.
The place is totally quiet at night, whics is quite rare in Thailand
- APedro (10/5): Very peaceful and friendly place -
We spent two nights at Gumbie House. Gumbie stands for dragonfly in one of the local languages. The hosts Roi and Soi (sorry if this is not the correct spelling) were super friendly and welcoming and we had nice interactions with them. The room was clean and comfortable. The food was very good (we had 2 breakfasts and 2 dinners there). The whole area surrounding this place is super beautiful and serene. There's a national park very close to Gumbie House and we got a good thai massage at the park's headquarters (there are also hot springs). Doi Ang Khang (an hour away from Gumbie) was amazing by the way!!
- trueswissboy (2/5): Unreliable and unfriendly owners! - When I arrived at the property with my reservation from booking.com, the unfriendly staff told me to speak with the owner by phone whereby he confirmed that he has cancelled my reservation and given away my room to somebody else and his resort is full for the night. So I was standing there with my motorbike, thunderstorms arriving close before it got dark. This behavior in that expensive resort is absolutely unforgivable and a shame to kick people out with a valid reservation and to sell the room a second time! In all my more than 100 bookings with booking.com, this never happened to me. Stay away from that place !
- TwoPomsSydney (10/5): Beautiful place. Perfect base for birdwatching - Stayed 4 nights B&B through Booking.com. 3 hr drive from Chiang Mai airport, fairly straight forward but very bendy road. Rooms are in separate buildings, across 2 floors, one per floor with balconies overlooking rice fields & mountains, the whole thing set in beautiful gardens. We ate in every night as Soi’s cooking is amazing! Good selection of wines & local beers. There are also plenty of small restaurants in nearby Fang. Went birding at Kings Project (definitely worth a visit, restaurant was amazing) & Doi Lang for Giant Nuthatch, Mrs Humes Pheasant etc. Highly recommend whether you’re a birder or not!!
- 346alexanderw (10/5): Wonderful accommodation with a warm welcome - Excellent rooms, very well furnished with beautiful details. Wonderful garden with great views and a peaceful atmosphere. The owners are very friendly and we have had excellent home made Thai dinner and breakfast.
We stayed only one night in July but loved it so much.
- Vanellus01 (10/5): It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This! - We have been lucky enough to travel widely over the years and stay in some pretty amazing places, and for us this amongst our very favourite locations. We were lucky enough to have five nights at Soi and Roy's wonderful hideaway in late February 2019 and cannot recommend it highly enough.
Our hosts were superb, warmly welcoming us with fluent English, and our evening debates were an absolute pleasure. The location of Gumbie house is stunning, overlooking paddy fields with a mountainous backdrop. The rooms are spacious, with stylish decor and lavishly equipped. The landscaped gardens and dining areas make meal times even more special, and the food is out of this world.
We found the only problem that after Gumbie House, every other location on our trip seemed inferior! This location really is in the award winning category and should be included on any Thai itinerary.
Soi and Roy, thank you, you really were the highlight of our holiday!
- Jacqueline_Wil (10/5): Wonderful! - My main reason for booking this accommodation was due to the close proximity to Doi Ang Khang. With a very positive recommendations from previous reviewers and desire for home cooked food, we booked via Bookings.com. As we have no transportation of our own, so we made transportation arrangements through Roy a few months prior to our trip. However, we are asked to pay for half of the accommodation and driver/ vehicle one month before our arrival as we are going during their peak season. There was no way of paying through credit card so we had to pay through PayPal and incurred the administrative charges.
The driver picked us from the Chiang Mai Airport around 5:30 pm but refused to let us stop for dinner along the way. In desperation, we had to call Roy to ask him to communicate to the driver in Thai language even though we had specifically instructed Roy to let the driver know earlier. That was the lowest point of the trip as we had 2 young hungry kids and elderly with us. We understand this is no fault of Roy as the original driver was sick and did not communicate well to his replacement.
We finally arrived at 11:30pm after a late dinner, both Roy and Soi was waiting for us at the gate. We were very grateful for the warm welcome and was allowed to quickly go to our rooms and rest for the night.
We had a very relaxing 3 nights stay in Gumbie House with very nice home cooking food for breakfast and dinner too. We highly recommend the bbq pork ribs and Tom yam soup.
Although Gumbie House is located very near to Doi Ang Khang but we still had to make a big detour to go as we understand that the road that leads directly from Fang to Doi Ang Khang was closed.
Overall, we had a very good time as Gumbie House is clean, homely, beautiful and centrally located to the places we want to visit. Roy and Soi and their family was very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended!
- Arunner2015 (8/5): Lovely setting, and a good choice if you are driving - We had great communication from the start (via email), and Gumbie House was super thoughtful and flexible about setting up transfers for us to get there and then get to our next destination in Northern Thailand. We enjoyed exploring on foot the immediately adjacent government-run agricultural research station, though I’m not sure we were strictly supposed to go in there (the guard was asleep when we walked in).
Because we arrived in the late afternoon in the rain, and without our own transportation, for a one-night stay, we were limited in what we could do or see. We were provided with a simple but good dinner (not included, of course, and not really involving choice of entrees), and there was a nice red wine by the glass that made the dinner feel more luxurious. Breakfast was excellent and served in a beautiful setting with good views.
The room itself was large and pleasant, and had a great bathroom with a shower and a tub in a completely windowed alcove, so you could take in more views if you didn’t care about the possibility of someone seeing you from the fields or the pond on Gumbie House property. The price for our room was a bit high, but seemed OK as a splurge for one night.
In all, this was a comfortable one-night stay between Chiang Mai and Chiang Saen. The advance communication was very helpful, especially for travelers booking everything independently. The area itself is better set up for people driving themselves.
- LRCCO (10/5): Really Nice! - First of all I'd like to mention that the name Gumbie House has nothing to do with the old American cartoon series/character of the similar sounding name - it simply means "dragonfly," which fits very well with the setting of Gumbie House in a peaceful agricultural area near the foothills and within walking distance of the hot springs in Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park.
Roy and Soi, owners of the property, had not planned to build a guest house when they first purchased the property, according to them it sort of evolved as they built and expanded. The result is fantastic, it feels more like you are guests of the family rather than staying at a business, and they've managed to create a very welcoming and at the same time enchanting environment. It's the kind of place you want to spend time at - relaxing and enjoying the ambiance, yet there's also plenty to do in the area such as walk (about 20 minutes) to the hot springs where we spent the good part of a day wandering about, relaxing in the hot spring tubs/sauna, and getting traditional Thai massages at a small fraction of the cost in the cities. Roy also arranged a guide/driver (need 4wd high clearance vehicle) for the early morning hike up to the Doi Pha Hom Pok peak to see the sunrise, cost maybe a bit more than one could find on their own but in this case our guide was a park ranger very experienced in managing the rough drive up and then the hike up prior to sunrise where without a guide one could get easily lost (many branching trails, most not marked).
Soi is a great cook and we chose to have all our meals at Gumbie House. Really fun to eat out on the patio overlooking the rice fields framed by the nearby foothills, but equally nice to eat in the common room (kind of open-air setup) and converse with other guests. Meals aren't included in the lodging but the cost isn't great and Soi is happy to customize what's on the menu.
Both Roy and Soi speak good English and are fun to talk with.
Apparently most of their business is from Thais rather than foreign tourists like ourselves - probably because Fang is a couple hours drive from Chiang Mai so the logistics of getting there might seem daunting. In our case we rented a car from Chiang Mai airport at a very reasonable cost and used the map app on my smart phone for navigation - not a problem at all.
So if you want to bypass the crazy over-touristed scene around Chiang Mai and have a more peaceful genuine visit to the northern area of Thailand, this would be a great place to go.
Highly recommended!
- lawrencep626 (10/5): Great retreat from hustle and bustle of the city. - Stayed at Gumbie House in Fang with a group of 12 people, all of whom had a great time. The food was great, the wine superb, staff were wonderful, price was reasonable and the time spent with the Hotel's management was most enjoyable and a nice experience. Rooms were modern and well maintained. Our expectations were exceeded.
The owners were very attentive and personable which made for a relaxing time for everyone.
It would be a great location for a small Wellness group or a Corporate meeting place and retreat. Am sure the Hotel could accommodate such an event.
Would definitely return and look forward to a trip there again.

- PKNT401 (10/5): Definitely 5 star review - Food is good. We have been coming back here for several years. Feels like home. The place is clean and comfortable. Very close to the hot spring. Quiet and peaceful. All you can ask for for a holiday or away from work!
- 197katk (10/5): Quiet, peaceful individual houses - We had an adventure that led us to Gumbie House: We enjoyed a day at the Fang Hot Springs park and then made a late attempt to drive a back way to Angkhang. We failed due to a closed road and needed to turn back. We tried in the evening to see if we could go back and stay in the park (since Fang town itself didn't look inviting), and that didn't work either as they were booked out. Feeling rather hopeless and a bit desperate, we pulled into Gumbie House not knowing anything about it, and we were so glad we did. We loved having a quiet, individual house to ourselves. It was spacious and there was only another quiet couple staying there. We woke up in the morning to see what a lovely garden they've made, with nice views of the surrounding countryside. It felt homey, as well as clean and comfortable, and the host went out of her way to help us with everything we needed (e.g. seeing if we could arrange a mountain climb, helping us with directions to Angkhang, cooking a late night dinner for us). We'll always think fondly back to our adventure and our luck to find Gumbie House. Thank you! (PS - I'm writing this some 6 months late, but I always did want to come back to say how great it is!)
- Retiredexpat (10/5): Very pleasant experience - We stayed for 2 nights and were very happy with the size of the room, the very comfortable bed and general ambience of the resort. We of course visited the nearby Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park and enjoyed the private mineral baths. The park is very well maintained and not as commercial as some.No vendors and a choice of food and drinks including a coffee house.Food at Gumbie is of a very high standard and if you enjoy Northern Thai food you wont be disappointed.Host Roi and Soi made us feel right at home. Highly recommended
- cliffordchambers (10/5): Stayed two nights but would happily have stayed longer - A great "get away from it all" place to stay. Our bedroom was of a good size and comfortable with a large bathroom attached. Breakfasts and dinners, taken al fresco, were very good and beers were very reasonably priced. The owner (?) Roy, who lives on the premises, speaks excellent English and is a true gentleman; we had some most interesting talks with him in the evenings. Soi speaks some English, but what she lacks in linguistics she makes up for in charm. She is the Manageress.
Gumbie House is situated away from main roads with fields around and a stream nearby. One can just wander off in a number of directions, being passed by an occasional car, but never bothered by traffic.
The Fang Hot Springs, which are about a twenty minute stroll away, are well worth a visit, as their setting is quite beautiful. We spent a relaxing forty minutes soaking up the mineral filled hot waters in a private cabin that was spotlessly clean and inexpensive. We than had a remarkably cheap grilled meat and rice meal with a beer at an outside table of a "cafe" overlooking a fast running stream and the forest. There was no-one around, the weather was fine and that meal with the sound of the water and the post bath torpor was a very happy one!
There are various pathways into the forest for the more adventurous.
As I said, we left with regret at not having booked for longer.
ps Gumbie House organised our transfer from Chiang Mai and it all worked perfectly, including an en route temple visit and a stop for lunch.
- gerhardf430 (10/5): You should have been at Gumbie House ! - When you go to Fang stay some nights at Gumbie House. You will be charmed by the luxurious home stay in a very nice park environnent and Soi will take care of you for breakfast and lunch (optional). Good view on the mountains at border to Myanmar.
- EquanimityOne (10/5): 5 Star Luxury without the price tag! - Honestly, this property was exceptional. The chalet was well appointed and was easily of 5 star quality. The owners were polite and there's lots of space and greenery. It was so serene. I didn't try the food but they do serve breakfast and dinner. It's a bit out of town which is good as here you'll experience the quiet and the country life.
The hot springs are just around the corner and it is truly one the best hot springs I've visited in Thailand.
