Guest Reviews
- JOHN (8/5): - An excellent breakfast served by a lovely lady .
- Dawn (4/5): - Parking is a farce, 27 rooms only 12 parking spaces. The whole of the outside area is double yellow lines, so if you don’t get a space you have walk a long way to park your car. What makes it worse they have a system that people who work close by can park at The Vine, how stupid is that. The outside of the building is quaint but the inside needs renovating really bad. Suffice to say we won’t be going there again. Oh by the way we paid over a 1000 pounds for 2 weeks, not worth it.
- Steven (8/5): - ,
- Mark (10/5): - Excellent service
- Patrick (8/5): - Staff were lovely, hotel is ideal for the theatre and shops.
- Dave (4/5): - Very dirty rooms
- mark (10/5): Great value - Room was spacious and clean and friendly staff. Great value for money with parking on site.
Bar area near pool table seating a bit tired but didn't affect our stay at all
- Michael (10/5): - Very pleasant
- David (8/5): Good location, comfortable room. - Good central location. Clean comfortable room. Friendly staff. Bathroom was fine, but the shower was old, and drained very slowly.
- Sylvia (6/5): - Meal service was appalling. A major shortage of staff. If staying here strongly recommend going out for meals. We waited over 40 minutes for anyone to even take our breakfast order and then a further 25 minutes for anything to appear. Evening meal no service after 7.45 despite being told the kitchen was open until 8.00pm. told the reason was the chef was stressed and could not cope.
- harokd (10/5): - very convenient and staff very frriendiy; steeped in history
- Verified traveler (8/5): Pleasant stay - Warm welcome, comfortable bed and cosy bar. Stairs might prove a challenge to less nimble guests as a very old building, Grade 2 listed. Lots of character!
- Tim (10/5): - Great stay. Room was ready early, really comfortable.
Staff were super helpful and friendly.
Excellent breakfast too.
- Michael (6/5): - Was nice
- Annie (10/5): Lovely little pub - Love this place so friendly and welcoming. Checked in early
- Annie (10/5): Fabulous - Felt like coming home Yvette is so helpful and kind. Parked in the car park and came back when my room was ready. Fantastic super size bed and kettle, fan etc. and right in the heart of town.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Unpleasant - One night stay, room was far too hot this made it very difficult to sleep. Floor boards squeaked both mine and rooms above. Could hear people in other rooms. Stains on towels and carpets. Mould in the bathroom and a sticky floor.
Staff were nice , food was good but the room was a real let down, paid over £100 absolutely not worth it
- Kaine (10/5): - Amazing experience, lovely staff very talkative & helpful, hotel & pub itself is beautiful & atmosphere is great
- Marianne (4/5): - The room was stuffy, so the window had to remain opened. Noise until 3am in the street: flushing toilets every 1/2 hour (or water noise?) There was some loud music in the pub opposite, but it stopped at about 9:30pm, so ok. There was no proper restaurant, just basic pub food. As for breakfast, as it is only served from 9am on Sunday, I will have to skip it. Just hope I can get out of the car park before that. Also, money was taken the day before, when it was supposed to be paid "at the property". So much for free cancellation. Also too many emails for confirmation, check in, check out etc Tiresome.
- Karen (8/5): - The Vine is a very old and quirky hotel and pub but ideally situated with own free parking. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant.
- Gary (10/5): Simple effective and clean - Nice town centre venue for an overnight - nice staff and good facilities. Great price
- Verified traveler (8/5): Vine hotel - Nice hotel older style property which was nice staff nice , little noisy outside as it was a Saturday closed window and put fan on for a while then opened later good value
- Paul (8/5): - Have stayed many times before and will stay again very handy for visiting relatives around Stafford. very reasonably priced and staff are always friendly and helpful.
- Lyn (10/5): - Staff were really kind and helpful. Will stop again.
- Ann (10/5): Excellent value for money - This hotel was a third of the price of a pub up the road and twice as good..lovely staff and room was lovely, well aired, big kettle, nice cups, fab, iron hairdryer etc.
- lucy (8/5): - The bath didnt hold water and they guve you a kettele and cofee and tea but not alot of sugar they need to be offering more sugar
- Sarah (10/5): - Great, friendly hotel. Fan location.
- Mark (10/5): - All good
- harokd (10/5): - bery friendly ;very historic
- Ann (10/5): - Hotel perfect for my one night stay
- Stephen (6/5): - Heating off
- Susan (6/5): - Very old and interesting inn. It was very difficult to find. Some of the staff were irritable or condescending- probably just having a bad day. Nice pub.
- Heather (8/5): Good stay In Centre of Stafford - The Vine the oldest coaching inn in Staffordshire.
We were given a warm welcome and allowed to check-in early as they had a room available. We were asked about breakfast and we needed information on gluten free items as my husband is Coeliac, they kindly provided a separate sheet with the options on.
Although the building is old the room was clean and the large bed very comfortable. The bathroom was large and the shower adequate.
The staff were friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome.
- harokd (10/5): - staff very helpful and friendly; the vine is a bit of old stafford that staffordians loved and should be cared for
- Heidi (4/5): - Rooms not clean tiny stairs to rooms every out dated. Would not use again
- Sue (6/5): - The property is as expected for its age. Room was small but comfortable. The shower was powerful and hot but needed some TLC. Shower tray and tiles needed a good clean or refurb. My husband cleared a blockage as the shower tray filled up completely with water.
The biggest complaint we had was the food. We ate there on the first night and my steak was burnt and very overdone on one side ( ordered medium rare) Also unable to cut until turned over. My husband's burger was also overcooked. Ww mentioned this to staff and she said that she would tell the chef the next day. We could not have asked for any replacement meal as the food was not served after 8pm and the chef was no longer there.
The first mornings breakfast was fine but on our second morning, we both ordered omelettes. These were extremely well cooked with black burnt and crispy edges. They were inedible! We told the waitress and the chef. He said when asked that they are always cooked like that. He looked completely shocked and unconcerned. We ended up with cereal and toast!
Do not recommend the food at all.
- Angela (10/5): Truly a Friendly Place - Really excellent, friendly service and we had been very kindly remembered from the previous year. Recommend 10/10!
- David (10/5): - Very friendly welcome at reception. No fuss check-in. Very characterful building. Great choice of food and drink. Excellent location. Looking forward to going back.
- Clive (10/5): - We liked its central position olde world ambience and lovely friendly staff.
- brenda (10/5): - Our room was ideal in the building at the rear with bus stop just round the corner. The main Hotel building still had wooden beams so very characteristic and the staff were very friendly.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Well 2nd time of going to the vine, Mitchell greeted us, what a happy guy, nothing is too much trouble for him, breakfast is freshly cooked, the other staff were great, rooms, comfortable and clean
- Janet (10/5): Nice Hotel - Friendly warm staff. Comfortable rooms. Breakfast service on slow side
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay! - Very welcoming manager and staff, fantastic dinner options that were extremely good value for money and a very handy location to get to the Staffordshire Showground.
The only thing that was a bit odd was that, while our room was freshened up every day, the sink didn't get cleaned at all. My husband is a bit of a messy shaver and I am always very happy not to have to deal with the aftermath when staying in a hotel, so I was very surprised to find that part of the bathroom still untouched both days.
Nevertheless, we enjoyed our stay and will be back!
- Nan (8/5): - The location was good, free parking but unfortunately, it was full on the day, so had to park at a near by long stay. The staff were nice and friendly as always. The room needed a little bit of an update and maintenance for the price (£100 a night)
- ross (10/5): - Great place at a great price
- Ray (8/5): - Free parking and in the town
- Claire (10/5): - We had a lovely time at the vine although it was a short stay we were warmly welcomed and comfortable
- Sammy (10/5): Perfect location if visiting the Gatehouse Theatre - Perfect location as we were going to the Gateshouse Theatre, which was just a few minutes walk. We did eat there and the food was nice. The room was ideal for the evening, the only negative was we couldn't turn the radiator off or down. Staff throughout were very helpful and friendly. We would stay there again if we were in the area.
- Caroline (6/5): - Had a great stay at Vine in Stafford, staff were lovely, food was great, room was great, price was great BUT when we were trying to go to sleep someone in the room above came to back and thudded around like an elephant for about an hour. Every time I nearly fell asleep there would be more REALLY loud banging around. Then, in the morning (a Sunday) at about 8am the banging, thudding, talking, was going on for over an hour again.
I was trying to sleep to make up for the disturbed night in the morning but much to my dismay the racket kept waking me up again just as I drifted off. I left Vine feeling EXHAUSTED because of the relentless thudding.
It was so loud it almost sounded like they were purposely trying to thud as loud as possible.
- Rachel (6/5): Pub hotel in need of a makeover - This is a basic pub hotel in serious need of refurbishment. The room was ok, a worn carpet with a couple of stains but clean overall. The bathroom was a disgrace, stains on the sink and mould in the shower cubicle. Everthing looked dirty. Horrible stained lino on tbe floor too. The breakfast and service were good. It's a shame because this is a nice pub, it just needs some investment in the rooms.
- Damon (6/5): Bedroom was fine. Bathroom not so much. - Double bed was two singles so you get the inevitable dip in the middle. Toilet was so close to the radiator, having long legs I had to try and not burn my knee. Shower drain was no good. Within 2 mins I was up to my ankles in water so had to keep turning it on and off and the shower leaked so had a lovely wet bathroom floor.
- harokd (8/5): - stay was fine
- Ras (10/5): - Amazing stay
- Timothy (10/5): Perfect choice for a Theare based break! - Excellent choice for a 1 night stay to go to theatre nearby! Thanks to Mitchell on Reception & also sometimes in bar.
We would deffo recommend!
- Keith (10/5): - A great location at the center of Stafford. Our room was clean and well prepared. The staff were very helpfull and the pub made a welcome change from those soulless budget hotels. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone
Free parking was an added bonus but could do with a few electric car changing points
- Carol (10/5): Excellent stay - Lovely cisy hotel/pub
Rooms very spacious. Comfortable bed
Staff are vert friendly, can't do enough for you.
- Christine (10/5): - Near to the gatehouse theatre
- Edward (8/5): - Good old fashioned pub with rooms. Really friendly staff, room nice. On a side street, in centre of town, ten minutes walk from train station.
Only criticism is that the shower in my room wasn’t great, but the water was hot, which is the main thing.
- Glen (10/5): - Rooms are a little dated but spacious, warm and the bed was very comfortable.
Parking was great with a barrier controlled car park behind the hotel.
- LISA (8/5): - Good value to stay centrally in the town. Rooms are clean and comfortable
- Paul (10/5): - Lovely cosy property in a pub in town centre with parking . Very hospitable staff
- Olive (10/5): - The Staff were very efficient helpful and friendly food was very good definitely come back when in Stafford thanks to staff i felt very safe being on my own
- Elaine (8/5): - Basic hotel in need of refurbishment but comfy bed , quiet room , free secure parking, lovely breakfast and nice staff .
- Daljinder (10/5): Very good - We had a good stay although we were at wedding most of the time
Mitchell at the front desk greeted us , was very welcoming and very polite , very good customer service by him .
- Paul (6/5): - Close location to the centre of town. Great close to the centre and nice places to eat. Staff great, rooms are very tired though and not good value for money
- Ian (8/5): - Staff are A1, the lady who checked us in and served behind the bar was very friendly as was the chef. Our food was lovely, the best cooked steak I've had for a long time
- Gayle (6/5): Friendly staff, but dated. - Good location, friendly staff, cheap price.
Very dated, needs a good lick of paint.
If you just need a place to stay overnight then one to consider.
- Nicola (6/5): - The room was tired and looked very worn, the bathroom had obviously been cleaned but was very marked and mucky looking. Carpets were very stained and mucky too.
Comfy bed, good location as its central and surprisingly quiet (mid-week stay).
- paul (10/5): - A lovely old hotel with delicious food.
- Kay (10/5): - Lovely place to stay, so close to the theatre. Dinner and breakfast scrummy Lovely staff. Comfy beds, clean room. Loved it.
- Alison (2/5): - Food for evening meal and breakfast awful.
Shower slow to drain away-paddling in water.
Noisy -morning and night.Woken up by music and loud talking by staff at 8am.
Poor cleanliness in dining area -a lot of milk was spilt on table and although asked if could clean -left there while tried to eat tasteless cooked breakfast
- Peter (2/5): - Historical building
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Comfortable stay and within walking distance to the railway station.
- Richard (4/5): Give it a wide birth - Dirty carpets filthy bathroom old tatty furniture needs shutting down
- Martine (10/5): - Room is basic but comfortable. Bathroom needs updating stained toilet and bath.
- Chris (8/5): - It's a gorgeous old (14th C?) building. The staff were great and we enjoyed the food. Would stay there again.
- Kathleen (10/5): - What makes this hotel really is the location and the wonderful staff. Nothing is too much trouble and they really couldn’t do enough to please . Friendly, lovely old coaching inn . If you are bothered about creaky floorboards and you can’t manage stairs it’s not for you . Oozing with character and charm. We ate there in the evening and the food was really excellent quality , Breakfast was also very good. The only criticism I could possibly have is that the housekeeper needs to pay a bit more attention to the bathroom cleanliness. Nothing really major but a lot of timescale and a fair bit of black mould on the shower which could have easily been cleaned off . Shame or it would have been perfect .
- David (4/5): GOG 2024 - Hotel room was a single room, as required, but a lot smaller than have experience elsewhere. The room was tired and bath room was the same. Breakfast on the first day, at 8.00am was reasonably acceptable. On the following day however was scheduled for 0900, which we had not been made aware, so upset plans. Also there were further days, and breakfast not deliverd until 9.45.!!!!
- Antony (10/5): Good Hotel in the centre of town - Good period Hotel in the centre of town with it's own private car park.
Easy walk to the railway station.
- J (6/5): - Was in Room 26.. I still have a bruise on my head from the rather sharp edged low beam. Everything else was lovely.
- julie (6/5): Bedrooms need an upgrade. - Lovely looking building. Rooms were tired but comfortable. Bedroom window did not shut so had to sleep with it open. ( not a problem for us and it was a warm night) however our room was above the pub and the music did not really stop until well after midnight. Bathroom was up a couple of steps. Shower ok. Sink too big for room to the point that you had to squeeze yourself pass the sink and shower to go to the toilet. Bathroom needs to be updated and needs to be cleaned to a better standard than what was presented. Staff were lovely but we would not return there. A shame.
- Geoff (10/5): - I would like to thank the staff for a great stay at the Vine, in particular Yvette, who was most helpful, hardworking and a pleasure to talk to.I really enjoyed my stay.
- Pam (4/5): - Room is dated bathroom dirty waited an hour for a cooked breakfast brown sauce was empty overall very poor for the price
- Gerrard (8/5): - Ideally situated close to Stafford town centre. Excellent care from Yvette and Sophie. Good food. Value for money room.
Downside- steep stairs for my injured knees.
- Linda (8/5): - Beautiful old building. Friendly, helpful staff. Good dining.
Some of the fittings in the shower room could do with a bit more tlc but overall, a good, comfortable stay.
- Kathy (10/5): - I enjoyed my stay. It was a lovely old building with all the quirks. The rooms are nice and comfortable. The staff were friendly and vey helpful!!
- Susan (8/5): - Lovely historic hotel at a great price. Room and facilities are basic but clean and well presented. Staff were lovely, location was great, and free parking on site. Stayed with family, and they have a breakfast deal for kids which made it very affordable. Would stay again when visiting Stafford.
- Stephen (6/5): Very average - Very helpful and welcoming staff, that’s the plus points. Can see why it was the cheapest hotel in the area. Got woken up at 6am by the pub bins being emptied outside the room. Overall the rooms need some work.
- EVELINE M (10/5): - Have been staying here before. Lovely old building from the 18th century. The staff are so very friendly and the breakfast was to die for 😃
- WAI-HONG (8/5): - I liked the food served in the adjoining pub, priced reasonably well. Pity, that there are no fridges in the room, which I can do with
- Amanda (8/5): - Great pub, old charm and close to all the amenities Stafford has to offer, the rooms are cheap so expect to get what you pay for! Great staff and very welcoming. Would stay again if we were ever in Stafford again.
- Chris (6/5): - Limited choices in the town but needs a make over
- Gary (10/5): - Quirky building. Staff very pleasant and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect short stay inn in Stafford. - Lovely friendly hosts and a pub hotel that does what it says on tin. Decent sized rooms for a short to medium stay. No aircon, but that wouldn’t be a problem mostly. The windows open properly so you can get a breeze if it’s hot out. Good food in the pub and a well priced, tasty breakfast.
- Phillip (8/5): Good stay - Only one night stay but very happy top job all round thank you all
- Stian (2/5): - Terrible. Absolute terrible. Filthy. Leaking. Staff that seemed completely drunk. Overpriced poor breakfast options.
Can not recommend for anyone to stay here for the price they charge for a room
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Bed was comfy and the surroundings were quiet so a good nights sleep was had, however the room was very dusty, the carpet was badly stained, the shower head needs replacing and the TV remote and glasses were dirty
- Simon (8/5): - Comfortable and good location.
- Mike (8/5): A nice stay. - Quaint and old hotel showing it’s age. Could do with a revamp. But comfortable giving us a good sleep. Nice bar. Plenty of outdoor space. Friendly staff. Would stay again.
- Alan (8/5): Expensive for no breakfast. - Bathroom door frame had blood on it, last guests old coffee package on floor. Loud Music playing in Courtyard at 7am.
