Guest Reviews
- srinivasa (10/5): - 4 beds in a room isbgreat
- Alexander (8/5): - Prachtige ligging, leuk terras.
- Hipolito (10/5): - Excelente.
- Charles (10/5): - The terrace was beautiful.
The guy sweeping leaves off the roof during the evening and the family with very loud children!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely river views and deck - The rain was particularly heavy when we checked in and the room we booked had a small leak, so we had a downstairs river view for the first night. This first room, though large with AC, just felt dark (the windows were looking onto the lower terrace so you felt you had to shut the curtains). The shower also would not get warm.
However, for the second night we were moved into an upstairs river view room, and what a difference! It was so light and airy feeling - again with AC and great space. There was also a shared balcony with the room next door. Plus, the shower was great. If we were in this room throughout I could have given 5 stars!
Breakfast was great, and made to order (from 2 options). Loved the main hotel deck (breakfast area) looking out onto the river, and we sat out on here both nights also.
We also booked a morning boat tour and morning walk through the hotel - highly recommend. They make sure coffee is available before you go out at 6am, and you take the boat from the hotel deck. They included a loan of big rain capes for the boat and wellies for the walk too. There were only 4 of us on the boat and us 2 on the walk, so it was almost a private tour for a great price.
- GRACE (10/5): - Staff are very helpful and there's housekeeping every day. I like the idea of having tea and coffee ready at 5:30 before going to an early tour.
The convenience of pick-up and drop off at Casa Marbella dining area/ lounge chair for your boat ride back to La Pavona parking lot is a big plus.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Feel like family at Casa Marbella - We discovered that we LOVE Casa Marbella, one of the highlights of our visit to Costa Rica this time! Family owned and run, one of the oldest hotels in Tortugero, the Casa Marbella staff provides friendly, expert, and excellent customer service (boat taxi pick up at the airport, guided tours by boat and in the preserve, etc.) The hotel is small, right on the river, and quiet. We loved staying here and definitely would go back.
- Kim (8/5): - This property is in a great location and offers boat tours in the morning. We liked the hotel except there may have been an issue with the water we didn't ask why it only seemed to offer a cold shower. Not sure if it had to do with the electrical outages they had while we were visiting.
- Louise (8/5): - Bien situé
- Seif (8/5): - The options of hotels in tortoguero is not much.. there is virtually no Airbnbs .. casa marabella is the perfect place.. very simple ! The location is beyond perfect! And they have free breakfast and coffee which really is a plus !
To get there is a whole different story !! But an awesome adventure.. you have to arrive in la Pavona.. parking people will greet you! They know you’re coming because casa Marabella had talked to them already.. You have to pay for both parking and the boat two separate companies/people.the lady that greeted us there her name was Gina and she was very sweet and helpful! After you pay parking and the boat ride you wait at the restaurant… your boat will arrive then off to the river jungle cruise ! Basically like Disney ride but real ! We spotted a crocodile was laying around and the boat guy slowed down for us to take photos.
They will drop you at casa Marabella right on the dock you barely have to walked 7 steps ! Which is another plus !!
Make sure you book the boat tour to go see the park! It is a must ! If you don’t why even make it all the way to to tortoguero! I booked it through the hotel and the dude that works at the hotel took us ! It was amazing ! He knew his stuff well! We did the 5:50 AM and it was just phenomenal not crowded and perfect ! After arriving we at the hotel and decided to walk back to turtoguero we rented rain boots from a lady there for 4 dollars ! Trust me you’d need them !
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel with a great view - Hotel has a fantastic view that you can enjoy throughout the day and where you eat breakfast, which was also very good (it varies every day, e.g., pancakes, scrambled eggs). The room mostly has everything that you need (no safe). Our room specifically was directly next to the Main Street, so it sometimes was noisy but nothing extreme. Would definitely stay here again.
- Douglas (10/5): Friendly and clean - 3 nights at Casa Marbella and great staff to make a really enjoyable stay
Very clean nice location close to national park entrance
- Michael (10/5): - Breakfast overlooking the river was amazing. It was really great to have Casa Marbella book all our tours, which were awesome.
- Rita (10/5): Front dock boat service - To put things in cotext, I live in Denver so am not used to humidity. We were in Tortuguero in August, which is the rainy season so it wa s hot and humid (think mid-80's for both).
Casa Marbella is .delightful hotel. They had a staff person greet us at La Pavona, which is the boat station to get to Tortuguero. The boat ride was a blast and took us directly to the hotel. They were there to greet us and check us in. Note that if you book through any other site aside from their own, you will need to pay in cash, so be prepared! Most sites mention that few places in Tortuguero take credit cards...the hotel and the tours we took were cash only but some of the restaurants did take credit cards.
Our room was good sized by Costa Rican standards. There is no air conditioning, which seems fairly common. They did supply 2 powerful fans which helped but I was melting. I think our sink leaked a bit because the bathroom floor was always soaking wet, which didn't help the humidity issue. The included breakfast was great and excellent portions. Service was responsive and even provided breakfast a it early on a day we had to leave beforw the usual service time.
- hafizur (10/5): - Really a nice place to stay. Very close to everything. They have their own deck so you can just relax. Breakfast was served with fresh fruits, bread and eggs. Next day we had pancakes. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
- Anne (8/5): - Sitting on the riverside deck watching life on the river is one of my most pleasant memories of Tortuguero.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Buena relacion calidad-precio. Buenos tours organizados por Luis.
- Annemarie (10/5): - Ganz toller Service, wundervolle, informative morgendliche Bootstour mit Luis!
- Carol (10/5): - Exceptional staff and service
Friendly and helpful
- brian (8/5): - Excellent restaurant and large clean rooms. Construction noise across the street woke us early.
- Clara (8/5): - Great location, comfortable rooms, good breakfast, knowledgeable & accommodating staff,
- Abhishek (10/5): - We stayed here as a family with 2 kids for a night in the room overlooking the river and it was just a very pleasant experience. The hotel has its own dock and is very close to the beach and the national park entrance. They also offer guided tours and Victor was very knowledgeable with a super quiet electric motor boat. The breakfast they offered was delicious tropical fruits with pancakes made fresh in the kitchen. The receptionist and staff were very helpful and the place is clean and just perfect for families. We would definitely stay here again if we visited again.
- Dau (10/5): - very safe
- Gry Knoop (10/5): Pleasant stay at Casa Marbella - Casa Marbella was a wonderful place. Very relaxed atmosphere. Tortuguero village is not big, but Casa Marbella is placed central. The rooms are basic, but got everything you need.
They provide coffee and tea before early morning tours. There’s a tour guide connect to Casa Marbella, Champer, that can take you on morning boat tour, day hike, night tour, volcano walk - all highly recommended.
The breakfast was freshly prepared and the pancakes was very good and so was the fresh fruit! We recommend at stay here.
- Nashat Hamed (8/5): Nice place to stay - Nice place to stay, lovely terrace overlooking the river. Initial communication by email about booking an excursion and a transfer was not a answered but everything was sorted smoothly when we phoned them. Friendly lady serving breakfast
- Mickey (8/5): You are in the jungle, all is basic - It is in the village, the hotel is very basic.
Breakfast has no options, one day pancake & one day eggs with no vegetables.
The maintenance is very good the staff worked all the time to keep the place clean and tide.
I don't recomend to take their night tour to see the turtules, the guid had very basic knowledge.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The service was great.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Only stayed for one night. Transport from La Pavona was straight to their jetty (we used one of the many collectivos). Check in/check out easy. One choice breakfast (fruit and pancakes). Helpful manager who made phone cals for us. Used this for canoe tours and visiting the National Park.
A no-nonsense, cheap accommodation with all necessities provided (but only just!) Somewhat noisy at night (dog barking, people talking loudly from 3 am).
- MICHELLE (10/5): Très satisfaits - Chambre de bonne dimension. Propre .
- Lisa (8/5): - When we arrived by car, we were on a list and greeted by a Casa Marbella staff member who showed us where to park and which boat to get on. We had a room on the street side, which others said was noisy, but we did not notice it too much. The only downside was that we arranged our tours through the hotel and they steered us to a motorized boat tour even though we had asked to go on a canoe tour. They made it sound like that was what was offered in the national park, but when we got on the tour we saw lots of other canoe tours. Also the guide was not told that we had signed up for the night tour, but he was there and did it anyway and it was good.
- Dalia (10/5): - Very laid back. Lovely breakfast and accommodating staff. Liked common area fridge and microwave. Lovely patio and view. Great location close to everything.
- Heribert (8/5): Einfaches sauberes Zimmer - einfaches sauberes Zimmer, Freundliches Personal, gutes Frühstück
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Being in the heart of the village and right next to the river was very nice!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Overall this property is pretty rustic, but that is how most of the properties are in Tortuguero. What makes staying here great is the friendly staff. Breakfast was included and delicious every morning. We were able to book a morning boat tour and a night walk through the hotel. The hotel guide Victor was amazing!
Check in et out plutôt froid.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly and helpful staff. Central to restaurants and excellent boat guide
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very helpful staff, good breakfast, use of boats and kayak and great river location
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good value for the money. Friendly service. We are a previous customer and will go back again if ever in Tortuguero.
- Georgios (8/5): Clean comfortable hotel with lovely river views - Lovely accommodation with lovely views across the river. Some of the early morning/late night tours can be noisy but this is not the fault of the hotel - just rude guests.
Excellent service from the staff and made us feel very welcome.
- KVB (8/5): - Staff was amazing! Tours were awesome!!! The best! But we had one less bed than what was in our reservation so we were sharing and it was so hot and humid it was extremely uncomfortable. The beds arent great and the floors are neglected as they were very sandy at check in. I think as far as amenities go you get what you pay for and this was an excellent option for the price but the cleaners should be more detail oriented. Private bathroom, and fans - no AC but I think that may be a rare amenity unless you can afford a more high end resort - depending on the time of year and weather it may be good to spring for a place with AC if you want to get a good nights sleep - but if you are on a budget look no further!!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing location and a wonderful staff! We were sad to leave, as we only planned one night. The morning boat jungle tour is a must do and is followed by a great breakfast and fantastic coffee (coffee available before the tour, as well). Our water taxi was delayed due to mechanics and thankfully, the owner, Darrel was able to assist us by communicating with the driver, because we didn’t have cell service on the island. Highly recommend.
- Verified traveler (8/5): 1 day excursions to Tortuguera - Nice basic hotel on the river. Can arrange a boat tour directly with the hotel which was convenient as they have their own private boat. Most hotels in the area have no a/c but extra fan was provided. Would highly recommend the area to other Costa Rican travellers and the hotel for basic accomodations.
- Verified traveler (8/5): An adventure on the water. - Great place on the water, breakfast was very nice. Very noisy place on a Saturday night. Bed could have been better. Tour was excellent.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing service. Were already greeted by staff at Pavona at public boot taxi to make sure we get to Casa Marbella without problems. Booked guided early morning canoe tour which leaves straight from the casa’s jetty. Beautiful verandah by the river where cooked breakfast was served after the 3 hour tour. Guide was very knowledgeable. Renovated very functional bathrooms & room service. Very good value for money.
- Susan (8/5): Great location and breakfast cook - Great location in the middle of Tortuguero town. Breakfast was tasty and the cook was willing to make something special to meet my dietary needs. The rest of the staff were helpful and did their job but they were not particularly friendly and did not go out of their way to meet our needs. Overall the room was clean and comfortable, but the bed was uncomfortable and being in the middle of town, the room was quite noisy.
- Alberto (6/5): Good for a short stay - Very noisy as it is just on the river front. You can hear everything through the thin walls... Nice patio where you can relax and very central in Tortuguero.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We were very happy with the Marbella. It is right in the centre of the 900 metre “Main Street”. We loved being so close to it all. The Marbella staff are helpful and enthusiastic. It is a great place to stay at this price point. 😄👍
- Cale (10/5): - Excellent location, staff were friendly and helpful with our travels, lovely patio overlooking the canal. Beds were a little uncomfortable.
- Karen (4/5): - Lots of small bugs in the room. Pillows hard and too big. Floor fan broken. Poor reception. Girl at front desk was abrupt and not friendly. Only positive was good breakfast with excellent server. Would not recommend this hotel
- Kirsten (10/5): Great hotel in Tortuguero - We really enjoyed our stay here! The room was clean, and it is in a good location. The back deck over the canal was beautiful and a great place to enjoy the breakfast.
- Kev (10/5): - Nice little place next to the river. You can sit on the porch and enjoy the view for hours. And it's very inexpensive for what it offers.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice people. Clean room. Should have stayed longer!
- Federica (10/5): Great view of the canal and great fresh breakfast - Family friendly, very imple B&B very conveniently located. Best: view, breakfast, free boots, location. Small and clean, great choice if you want to stay in the island
- Gemma (8/5): Location location location - Location is incredible, right in the middle of the jungle. Set breakfast provided each morning, good for most difficult with a gluten allergy. Basic accommodation but mostly everything you need. Main negative no AC
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Really nice hotel very close to the beach, park and the boat dock. Clean, airconditioned rooms and very good breakfast.
- Gemma (10/5): Clean, simple and friendly. - Lovely b&b and kept its promise of simple but clean and comfortable rooms. Good value rooms and breakfast. Good village location and tours were well priced and professionally run. Lovely setting.
- jane (8/5): Relaxing by the river - Great location relaxing by the river, drinking a beer and watching boats passing by. A huge iguana came by too. There is a communal fridge so you can have cool drinks. Boats drop you off directly on the hotel’s deck. Great location. Loved it!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Recommended - Great place by the river to chill and to explore. Very helpful staff and very friendly owner. Free use of kayaks and canoe much appreciated.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Basic place to stay! - We had great stay at Casa Marbella. The room was clean & simple on the first floor. Staff was friendly and helpful. We had morning 6am boat tour and breakfast was ready on our arrival from tour. Victor was our tour guide and very knowledgeable on animals, forest. Heavy rain during tour and poncho's were given to each passenger. Only negative was ants in the room because we left food on the night stand. Deck on the back touching river is a great place to relax.
- jeff (10/5): Very pleased. - Simple but comfy room. Fans kept us cool. Right on the river. Nice breakfast.
