Guest Reviews
- Cecilia (8/5): - Very convenient for the M6. Staff friendly & helpful. First room, the power didn't work. We were moved, but in the second room, the toilet was leaking from the base. It was late, we were only there for one night & the bathroom was useable, so we didn't ask for another move.
- Derek (2/5): - The room wasn’t very clean, multiple cobwebs from the ceiling. Bathroom very dated.
- Iain (4/5): - Easy access to M6 but looks tired and run down. Staff good but no cups or glasses in room, lights not working, crscked tiles around bath and breakfast pastries weren't fresh. Didn't represent value for money
- Paul (8/5): - Good quality venue and very friendly staff.
- Tim (8/5): Job done - Room fine, great staff lovely breakfast. Thank you
- MARINA (6/5): Electrical problems - The room was booked as an overnight stay, easy to find and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was a bit tired but the main problem we had was there was only one electric socket that we could use as the only plug socked in the room was a double that was faulty , ( you could not put a plug in one side) we didn’t complain before going to bed , but after showering in the morning we could not use the hair dryer as the attached dryer cable would not reach the only working socket , no one at the desk to report it to when we left
- Alexander (6/5): - I stayed there about 2004/5 when it was a Premier inn so was disappointed this time. The staff were excellent and the food was good. The premises were tired looking with worn and dirty carpets. All in all I would hesitate to return.
- gary (6/5): - Food was good and the service excellent. The hotel is suffering from age and looks and feels tired.
A distinct odour of damp in the hotel stairway.
Place needing a lick of paint and an upgraded look.
- Stephen (6/5): Stop Over. - Ideal for a stop off, or maybe work related. Staff were great, lovely breakfast.
Bit old school, with key for door, shower off the bath tap ( Although to be fair it was strong). No A/C so was pretty hot in the bedroom on this hot day / night. Fairly noisy traffic noise, bed comfy.
Overall it was ideal for my one night stop overall as the price was reasonable.
- Michelle (8/5): - Good
- Ioan (6/5): - The place is alright.
- Sharon (10/5): - Stay here regularly, never disappoints always clean and the staff are very friendly
- Peter (10/5): - Needs a bit of a revamp in bathroom but everything works and the rooms are clean and tidy and the bed is very comfortable.
- Ian (4/5): - Didn't like being waken up by security asking what i was doing in that room...at 1am ...then vacuum tanker was roaring away at 7am
- Brian (8/5): - Very adequate older hotel. The rooms were large and comfortable.
The area around the hotel is very walkable, and there are several very nice restaurants within walking distance.
- john (6/5): - Value for money
- Katie (8/5): - The hotel could do with a bit of a upgrade
- Sue (10/5): Competition weekend - Lovely weekend stay. Room very clean and tidy staff very friendly and accommodating. Shower nice and hot.
Food served in Pub in front of the hotel building, quite popular but staff very helpful and food fantastic
- Geoff (10/5): - Im from wigan originally we came down for my neice wedding it was hood that my family came into the pub and we had a few drinks. We had breakfast on Sunday morning and it was the best weve ever had. The staff were friendly & helpful
The rooms could so with a bit of TLC apart from thay excellent weekend
Definitely stay again next time down in wigan
- Carrie (6/5): - Just needed somewhere close to Wigan so location good. Very dated building but room was nice, great parking and great if you can get the right price if you are travelling and need a stop over as opposite the motorway junction
- Felicity (10/5): - Excellent customer service. Totally recommend.
- David (10/5): - Very polite peaple helpful, and in my case i can get there by public transport.breakfast well worth the money.
- John (2/5): Couldn't Pay Me To Stay Again - Disgusting, dirty and mouldy.
No security on entrance and no security doors so anyone could walk into the building.
Music on loud in one of the rooms until 1am and no front desk to report too.
Needs closing down or a total renovation.
Avoid!
- Jo (8/5): - Staff very helpful and friendly
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely staff, great for what you pay. - Great as a business stop over.
The bar area is lovely
Strong smell of weed, in the corridors
Noisy from other rooms at night. ( when i stayed this time)
I have stayed before and it was fine
- Barbara (8/5): Handy location - It was a pleasant stay. Once I'd moved room I was happy. Anywhere other than first floor has a mouldy smell. Place could do with a bit of modernising but was clean and tidy. To eat you have to leave the buidling to go up the steps to the bar and restaurant in a separate building. There was nothing spectacular about the food but it was eatable. It's not a place I would go to for a relaxing break but it was comfortable and close to family that I required.
- PJ (10/5): - Was a decent stay with friendly staff and close to shops and to the people i went to see.
- David (10/5): - Very friendly and welcoming hotel. Lovely rooms. Staff friendly and attentive
- Verified traveler (4/5): Poor Attention to Detail - One of the Bedroom lights wasn’t working. There was a constant wet patch on the carpet outside the En-suite. People smoking weed down my corridor!!! Hole in the dressing table? Flooring in the En-suite collapsing!!! No plug sockets near the bed?
- Carol (2/5): - A very tired hotel that used to be a premier inn. The entire property is lacking in its up keep, the room I was given had mold in the bathroom and in the bedroom. Carpets need a deep clean or replacement, mattress also needs replacing. I would suggest if you need to find a place in this budget use newburgh. That’s where I moved to. Much nicer, clean and looks like they have had it cleaned up
- john (10/5): - Easy to find , quite location , staff friendly, room comfortable , good food in the Mount Inn.
- Andrew (6/5): - It had a bed… best I can say.
- JOHN (6/5): - Clean & ok but in urgent need of refurbishment.
- JEAN (10/5): - Food, staff, accommodation, grounds all excellent, a very pleasurable stay.
- Mark (4/5): - When we were going down to our room the smell from a chemical air freshener which was trying to mask the smell of damp was horrible. When we went in our room the bathroom had someone’s dirty towel hung up in it and toothpaste spit in the sink. I mentioned it to reception and they just said sorry. The pillows didn’t have pillow protectors on and were stained. I wouldn’t stay here again
- Margaret (4/5): - Reception unmanned on arrival. No soap in the bathroom on arriva l. Grab rail on bath wall missing, Shower not safe to use.
Reception person not worried that Phone number unobtainable previous nighht, stated he had reported it.
General condition of The Mount was Run Down and nobody seemed to care..
- quincy (6/5): - Food was burnt however got a full refund
- John (6/5): - We arrived at The Mount only to be told the hotel is in the building behind the pub. The sign was overgrown and easily missed as it’s also green.
Check in was okay and room was clean - very like a Premier Inn from 10 years ago.
Restaurant food was poor - items not available for evening meal and coffee machine broken for breakfast.
Staff were friendly and very apologetic when there was a fire alarm at 7.50am on Sunday (these things happen).
Car park is down a very steep hill making it difficult for my wife to walk.
Overall a reasonably pleasant hotel just let down by the restaurant
- Nigel (10/5): - Easy check in. Next to a good pub.
- Simon (10/5): - Lovely hotel and amazing staff
- Stephen (8/5): - A very competitive price for the spacious room, which was clean. Access to the onsite pub for a good food menu and drinks. Friendly staff
- Oluwatobi Abiodun (8/5): - Good environment
- Syed Shehzar (10/5): - Good stay
- Jordan (8/5): - It was clean and quiet, however a plug outlet by the bed would be a good addition. Also maybe a vending machine with some items like wash kits, sewing kits, cotton buds, shavers... Just little things that may easily get forgotten by the customer. Other than that, it was very clean and the staff for friendly and the bed was very comfortable.
- James (2/5): - Room was infested and not fit for use
- Grant (6/5): - The hotel was clean and beds comfortable but the building itself was tired and in need of maintenance and repair.
Housekeeping staff were very attentive and helpful however staff in bar/restaurant could learn a bit about customer service from their housekeeping collegues.
- Leslie (10/5): the mount hotel - it was a great location for what we were doing and all was okay. easy to get into the centre of Wigan by bus. good value breakfasts.
- Michael (10/5): - The toilet seat was loose.
- Anthony (10/5): Wigan birthday party - Very enjoyable stay. My room was looking a bit tired, but it was fine. Shampoo bottles in the bathroom were empty, but that’s an easy fix.
- Robert (6/5): - Only problem I found was that staff was parking in the reception area for load unload your car not sure if I would go again
- Victoria (10/5): The staff at the Mount were second to none! - Stayed at the Mount for a trip to a family wedding. The hotel staff were lovely and helpful. Living in London and having experienced 5* hotels there, the staff at the Mount surpassed the customer experience by far!!
- Dean (4/5): Tired hotel that needs a refrub - Not a place I would recommend to anyone, the bed was clean and comfortable but thats as far as the positives go.
During check-in, the lady on reception was pleasant and welcoming but the smell as you come in, already lets you know this place isn't going to be very nice. The corridors were dated and in need of a refurb.
The room was big, as I said the bed was clean and comfortable but I just felt at unease with the rest of the room, just felt dirty and the bath room is just horrible, stains on the curtain, mold around the room etc.
The room was also very hot, there is no air con and the heater (which maybe could blow cold) didn't work. You can hear people walking up and down the corridor and the TV on close by rooms.
Didn't try breakfast, as they said there was no hot food due to some work going on. No notification of this, while booking.
Went to the restaurant for dinner, its also very run down and you can see the owners don't care much for this place.
There was no staff at reception after 8 and no one there in the morning for check out.
- Adrian (6/5): - Very disappointed, i thought my room was going to be in this old victoria looking building, found out it was in another building separated around the back, if you saw it, it would be a bit of damp squid
- Steve (4/5): Little has changed in 12 Years - Although the room is tidy and the bed comfortable there are many faults with the rooms at The Mount.
Taps that don’t fully shut off the water, knobs missing from the bath/shower lever and general wear and tear condition of the room have been neglected by Green King since they took over the running of the accommodation from Premier Inn approx 10 years ago.
Only reason we stay is the convenience to family.
GREEN KING need to spend money and refurbish the rooms.
- Andy (8/5): - Let down by breakfast service at the adjoining pub. Food was okay but I had to search for staff for a post 9am breakfast on two occasions.
- Laura (2/5): - Filthy checked out
- john (10/5): - Very clean would recommend
- Neil (10/5): A bit dated but ok - It’s an old Premier Inn but could really do with a coat of paint. It was very clean and the staff really friendly and helpful but really needs a facelift.
Not enough to put me off staying there again. The pub is a Hungy Horse so it’s decent enough.
- Andrew (4/5): Don’t pay for brealfast - Charged me £7.99 for breakfast! 7am start, 2nd day they did not open the door till 07:05, I ordered a sausage and egg roll as was needing to leave for work! Came back after 25mins and told me they were just waiting on the pan heating up to do the egg! So I Left! Breakfast was an absolute shocker the first day! 3rd day we didn’t even bother we just left and went to Greggs! Don’t pay for the breakfast
- kevin (4/5): Ok - This is a cheap version of premier Inn. For the price it was ok as it only cost me £75 for one night.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Very near moterway - Great cheap hotel you get what you pay for
- Crawford (4/5): - Shower started making a noise like a bulldozer and no water came from the shower head. Then I couldn't get the water to stop flowing into the bath. Shower gel and hand wash containers both empty. LOTS of cracked tiles around the bath. Cutlery at breakfast looked dirty, although it could just be the local water causing that. Also the table I sat at was sticky - never a good feeling when the place smells a bit of stale beer. Other than that, the place was a joy to be in 😂
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Didn’t made mt trip
- Neil (4/5): - The room we had was a quad. The room was basic but quite spacious which was a plus as there was 3 of us. But for me that’s where it ended.
There was an evidence of mild in the top corners of the room and bath room. The toilet seat wasn’t on straight so when sitting you slid all over the place. The walls needed a lick of paint - as streaks on the walls where paint had rubbed off. The taps needed to be turned on with brute force and the shower was magical. I still don’t know how I turned it on or off. Broken tiles were also on display in the room.
It’s a shame really because the location is perfect and there’s ole ty opportunity to make the rooms nice.
- David (6/5): Tired but convenient - Staff are friendly but that's where the positives end really.
I've used this hotel on a number of occasions over the years as it's close to family.
It's changed hands to a different chain and I had hoped it would be renevated which it was in desperate need of but it hadn't.
Smells damp in the first corridor off the reception.
Rooms are OK in size.
Main bed is comfortable, think that was the last chains selling point.
Bathroom is old, toilet had been broken and glued back in place, floor lino cracked. The bathroom itself would mean most people wouldn't come back.
Heating is in the corner of the room, one electric small radiator that I'd not be comfortable to leave on when out of the room.
The only sockets are on the desk area across from the bed, nothing near the beds.
Dents and scrapes all around the room.
Maintenance has not been this hotels strong point.
If it wasn't so convenient for family I wouldn't stay again.
- MR N (6/5): Bit expensive - Everything was OK. Check in was smooth, efficient and friendly (he did a grand job given it was his first day). It's a little tired but clean and comfortable. Used to be about £50 per night I think which would have meant I'd have probably given it 4 stars but at £70 it's a little pricey given the overall condition of the place
- Olabisi (10/5): - The staff were accommodating and ready to assist, and i feel the facility is old, but its well maintained
- Andy (10/5): - The rooms are a bit run down but still comfortable. Staff are lovely and professional.
- Steve (6/5): - There is poor lighting signage outside.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Time for a referb - Damp dark and dismal
- Luke (2/5): - Turned up and the accommodation was at the back of the building shown in the photo! Three Police Officers looking for an offender in Reception! Homeless walking around, not kid friendly at all, breakfast was okay but not much for the money and overall i didnt get a wink of sleep because they stuck a mattress on the floor for my 1 year old boy when the site said travel cot, he kept falling out all night as you can imagine. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
- Phil (10/5): - Grear
- John (10/5): - Enjoyed our stay
- James (2/5): - Bed was comfortable but i knew finding moths and that in the room and im really creeped out by them
- Jo (6/5): Ok stay - Clean and tidy but needs a refurb.
- John (8/5): - Hotel is to the back of the pub, quiet other than a bit of road noise, rooms were basic and clean however the previous occupants toy dinosaur was under my bed..
Staff on check in were very friendly and welcoming and the hotels itself smelt lovely. I would stay here again
- Sarah (4/5): Tired old hotel - Very tired hotel room. Bathroom needed full overhaul. Grout in tiles black shouldn’t have been offered for use. £89 cheap but had far better for less.
Reception friendly when maned.
- Tom (10/5): Family room - Family room with efficient space and enough parking space.
- John (4/5): Shame the place has declined over the years - Shame, the whole place is looking tiered and in need of refurbishing. Staff polite but look disinterested
- David (6/5): - The place is tired to say the least. Staff not available (in the actual bar) then complain they are wet from the rain when you call for their service. Check in service was hard work to say it should be very simple. Carpets in the corridors were gathered and smelt like damp/wet dog. Made my way to the room to be greeted by housekeeping and before I’d even step foot in the room I was asked if I was happy with it and that it had not been vacuumed. Room itself was run down, marks on the units, carpets, cracked tiles and the soap dispensers just layed against the side (in the bath also) cobwebs in the windowsill & under the bed.
On the plus side the bed was big and comfortable. Overall distinctly average and could have been so much better with a little pride from staff & TLC.
- Diane (8/5): - £60 for 1 night stay is expensive, hotel is in need of refurbishment, very tired looking.
- Lee (10/5): Excellent - Friendly welcome. Quiet hotel beings next to M6. Comfortable rooms. And nice food and drink in the sports bar next door.
- Steven (6/5): Very poor, think twice - No fit for use as a hotel room, mould on ceiling, dirty vents, old, tired, dust on top of wardrobes at eye level, no remote control, out of date PAT testing sticker on heated radiator. Will not be going back, I would like a refund !!
- karen (8/5): - The mount is very comfortable and the staff are lovely, cleaning is good. Just needs some tlc to bring it up to par.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Whole place tired and worn
Bathroomwas damaged dirt in cracks yuk
- E (10/5): New Year - A warm friendly greeting at reception and helpful information for our stay
- Bobby (10/5): Excellent place - I had 1 night at the mount hotel with my friend. We loved the time at the hotel friendly receptionists and friendly staff in the main restaurant. We had a quadruple room and we had 2 very comfortable beds and I paid an excellent price of £45 which was worth it if am ever in Wigan I will definitely book the mount again
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Apart from the picture on the web site which we had the impression was the hotel was not the hotel. You had to go at the back of the building down some iron stairs where we found the area was totally unkept to find the hotel itself. More like a motel than a hotel. Their was a smell which we couldn't work out what it was.
We decided to go to the restaurant to eat. Now that was an experiance.
The Lasagne was burnt around the edges which was impossible to eat . The chips we had with our pie were not hot and the presenation was disgraceful.
Not a good overnight stay to say the least. Will not be going back.
The bathroom floor had 4 screws coming out of the floor which we caught our toes on on numerous times. We has to put a towel on the floor to stop hurting ourselves.
The bath taps were dirty and rusty and shower curtain was dirty.
- Matthew (8/5): Perfectly adequate if you don't pay too much - Positives:
Good price
Good size room
It was clean
The bed was comfortable
Plenty of hot water and a good shower
Negatives:
A little shabby (e.g. bathroom floor was damaged)
Hotel accommodation in an ugly 'block' round the back (it's not the attractive building you see on the photo - that's the pub/restaurant).
Summary:
Perfectly adequate if you don't pay more than £55 per night.
- Carole (8/5): Good value - Booked 5 rooms for a family get together
Rooms clean very comfy beds basic but for the price we had no complaints
- Callum (6/5): Don’t pay more than £40-£50 a night - Generally okay for the money. We needed a cheap room as we were attending a wedding in the area. Quite a tired old building, musty and damp in places. Room was really tired and in need of a good renovation. Shower however was decent, hot and good water pressure. Cheap non breathable bed linen made sleeping a bit annoying, too hot then too cold etc.
Generally as long as you don’t spend more than £40-£50 a night on a room, it’s about what you’d expect.
- Anthony (8/5): - Excellent value for money. Staff all incredibly welcoming and helpful.
- Andrew (8/5): Dixey's stay at the Mount - Bed was comfortable, bathroom in need of full refurbishment, cracked tiles and rust around bath tap. Holes where a soap dispenser was removed and not made good, silicon patching a water damaged surface behind the basin.(I work in building maintenance for a housing association) and cobwebs on the bedroom ceiling. One of the two cups was dirty. Overall my stay was pleasant but could see that the room was tired.
Staff were very pleasant and friendly and made me feel welcome. The food was as expected for venue.
- Julie (8/5): Satisfied customer - Staff very friendly. Location was superb. Dining was good. Will stay again.
- John (10/5): Excellent service and great food. - Everything was absolutely perfect except for one incident where I had a fall in the bath. Yes there was a little sign telling me the bath might get slippy, but when you wear glasses you don’t wear them in the bath. On arrival a bath mat should be given out automatically to avoid this problem. However the staff were really good.
- Mary (2/5): COMPLETE RIP OFF - We booked a triple room which showed a double bed, a single bed and a pull out bed. Arrived to be told a triple room is only for two adults and up to two children and refused to let 3 adults stay. We had to pay another £190 for a second room
- Verified traveler (6/5): Just my opinion - The service from the bar staff was very good. Louise who supported breakfast service was also very good.
That said the SOFT poached eggs I asked for the first 2 mornings were just short of being hard boiled, I had to give up asking for them because clearly the chef doesn’t know how to make them. On 3 mornings I had to as for a cup for tea. Had to ask for bread for toast. Long wait times for food at breakfast time. The tables weren’t replenished with cutlery. Clearly not enough staff to deal with number of customers. Breakfast supervisor could have been a bit more engaging with her customers too. She wasn’t apologetic or organised. Service should just flow and not be a disaster. That said I do like the Mount and would stay there again.
- Brian (6/5): - Reception not maned. 5 minute wait.
Hotel whilst clean felt very tired.
Wouldn’t stay there again.
- Ann (4/5): - On the plus side , the staff did all they could and were helpful and friendly. Bad side , the hotel is behind the photo shown and on3 levels no lifts. Very dirty floor in bathroom, nose on stair case loose, bath taps/ shower control difficult to operate (staff had to show us) , not warned of noise from motorway on our room side. Believe this to be a total miss sell as we thought by the photo a great place and frontage
- Verified traveler (8/5): Aircon neccessary - I would just recomend they to av a aircon in the room
