Guest Reviews
- Mears (9/5): -
- elaine (9/5): One night in Ecclefechan - Large room well decorated, big window with blinds. Tea, coffee, water and biscuits provided.
Big bathroom with bath and shower. Plenty toiletries provided and big fluffy towels.
Well stocked bar and dining room. Darts board and pool table.
The bar is frequented by visitors from the nearby campsite. Lovely to chat to people from other parts of the country.
Lovely breakfast included.
Reasonably priced evening meals available too. Couldn't find anything not to like.
- David (8/5): - Lovely bedrooms food in the evening wasn't great bit breakfast was fine. No lift so not great for disabled guests Being disabled the stairs were difficult
- Paul (10/5): very happy weekend - owners and staff we excellent, helpful and caring
- David (10/5): Enjoyed the place. Hosts made the stay for us and all friends into a great weekend. - Great choice and the cooked food was served hot and on time. the choices were exactly what was expected. All OK for me.
- Lees (8/5): - Very nice proprietors, good value food
Excellent ensuite room , plenty of free parking. Rather cold in the bar and breakfast room.
- Andy (10/5): Nice cosy hotel /pub - Dog friendly good breakfast room and bathroom clean Nothing
- Ian (9/5): Comfortable overnight stop. - Large spacey room with an exceptional bathroom with both bath and walk in shower.Off street parking. Nothing
- Tony (8/5): A good place to stay overnight. - We had a one night stay just off the motorway to break our journey and it was perfect for our needs. A nice quiet room, friendly staff and a great breakfast. NA

- Huw (10/5): Everything was great. Home cooked food, good bedroom and nice people. - Everything was great. Home cooked food, good bedroom and nice people.
- Smith (9/5): - The room was spotlessly clean and met our needs for a 1 night stay The public spaces are still a work in progress.
- Danielle (10/5): We will be back! - Lovely staff. Family owned. Decor is beautiful!
- Jay (8/5): -
- Murray (8/5): Very friendly and helpful staff, lovely rooms. -
- Joshua (10/5): Great stay when cycling to Glasgow - Helpful staff and great breakfast!
- paul (8/5): -
- Ian (7/5): Met my needs - The friendliness of the staff It could do with updating the reception area and bar restaurant to a more welcoming atmosphere.
The outside front and rear need attention
- Kelly (8/5): - Lovely old hotel. Nice for 1 night stay over. Fab home cooked food. Nothibg
- Treestone (9/5): Great overnight stop - This is a very convenient stopover near but away from the main road. Accommodation is excellent and food offerings good. Great breakfast. Pleasant and helpful host. Everything good
- Craig (8/5): - For the money, the room and bathroom were lovely. Breakfast was great and the staff were very nice and helpful. The village itself has only got a little shop and that's about it! You can hear the motorway when outside too, but that's hardly the hotels fault!!
- Emma (10/5): - Had an excellent stay in a lovely hotel at great value for money ! Lovely evening meal and large breakfast. The homemade ecclefecan tart was delicious and even brought some to take home, excellent friendly hosts.
- Carmel (8/5): Great stay - Warm welcome, dog friendly the food in the evening was nice. Very clean and comfy bedroom. Nice garden area to sit in the sunshine and great for the dog. Breakfast very good. Would definitely stay again. I would just say it's not ideal if you're disabled as there are two flights of stairs to the bedrooms, but apart from that everything was good.
- Catherine (10/5): If you’re in the area, this is the place to stay and to eat! - It’s in a little town near Lockerbie (We wanted to visit the memorial for the PanAm flight.) It’s been renovated and delightfully decorated. Nice parking in back and I’m guessing that in the warmer months the beer garden is a great way to spend an evening.
Our room was lovely. New bathroom facilities, comfortable bed, extra pillows as requested. The bar/dining room is beautiful and the food can’t be beat. There’s a very nice comfortable lounge just adjacent to the bar area.
The owner is fantastic. Outgoing, friendly, and goes out of her way to make everything work smoothly. And she’s a wonderful chef (If the onion and cheese pie is on the menu get it - as well as her blueberry cheesecake!)
Ecclefechan is also a short drive down into England proper and the Hadrian Wall ruins, as well as the birthplace of Carlyle. It’s just a lovely little village with great residents. There’s even a little convenience store just across the street from the hotel. ? There’s nothing not to like!!
- Niall (10/5): Overnight stop - Very friendly welcome from all staff, excellent food and service
- Isabel (7/5): -
- Helen (9/5): -
- Karen (7/5): The hotel was great for an overnight break in our journey. - Ecclefechan is just off the A74 and easy to find. The staff are friendly and accommodating, food was very tasty both dinner and breakfast. Ecclefechan is a really small village, the hotel is the centre of the community. As it was a Saturday night Karaoke was ramping up around 9pm. Our room was above the speakers so we asked to be moved. The owner was brilliant and we were given a room right at the far end of the hotel which was lovely and peaceful. We had a good nights sleep ready for our onward journey. n/a
- Elspeth (8/5): - Very clean and comfortable room.
Excellent breakfast.
Very friendly staff. Room got rather cold overnight.
Very noisy due to closeness to motorway.
- Nicola (10/5): - Fantastic hotel and very welcoming . Rooms are really nice and food is fantastic. Secure parking for motorcycles is an added bonus . We will definitely stay again and recommend
- David (10/5): - Friendly staff and location. Exceptionally good value. The weather!
- Stephen (10/5): We Really enjoyed being a part of the local crowd within the Hotel throughout the evening,, - First, the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the Hotel Bar/pub, and then, the Lovely Meals we had cooked by the owners, and the Fun atmosphere within the pub in the evening . Nothing we can say here.
- Rachel (8/5): -
- Glenys (10/5): Perfect stopover with friendly staff and locals. - Adrian and Cath are doing a great job renovating, our room was fabulous, clean and very warm. The bed was so comfortable. We loved meeting and chatting to the locals in the bar beside the open fire. Food was tasty and freshly cooked, the breakfast was delicious. We loved our stay with you.
- Roy (8/5): Friendly small hotel - Handy location to motorway, good price, friendly staff. Not a lot of space for clothes.
- Donna (9/5): Most welcoming. - Friendly staff and owners, willing to oblige with dietary needs, most accommodating. Room was cold at night but heated up in the morning. Overall was a lovely stay.
- Kathryn (7/5): Clean welcoming & suited the purpose great stopover - Very convenient Take away breakfast because of my leaving time could be better,
- Patsy (10/5): A very friendly and welcoming place to stay en route to completing the Annandale Way. - Our rooms were bright and clean, comfortable beds, delicious and well-priced meals, and mostly the friendly and welcoming staff.
- Andrew (10/5): Wholesome hotel stay - Staff were super friendly, comfy and clean rooms, cracking breakfast. Would recommend!
- Andy (9/5): Wish we could have stayed longer as good base, to explore the area. - Friendly owners made us feel welcome, the proximity to the motorway was good. The breakfast and evening meals were great and it was dog friendly.
- Alison (10/5): Friendly and bargain place to stay - The hosts were so friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay and would choose to stay with them again if in the area. Such great value for money and lovely and clean. Everything was brilliant. Nothing to not like 😀
- Jason (9/5): Best place to stop on the way up to Scotland. - A perfect place to stop on the way up to Scotland, staff were very friendly and went out of their way to ensure our stay was perfect. They are dog friendly which is a bonus, food was home cooked and delicious, the room was warm, clean and comfortable, highly recommended. No space in the hotel parking lot, but there was space out the front.
- Jenny (7/5): - The location was ideal as part way to our destination Room was directly over the bar. Which was clearly heard
- Jill (10/5): Just perfect - Great food, warm welcome definitely a return to be planned Nothing
- Kenneth (8/5): - Fantastic bfast confortable room N/A
- Arleen (7/5): -
- Jill (9/5): -
- Andy (9/5): The ornament on the reception desk that mentions guests leaving as friends seems accurate. - The hotel is ideally located in the heart of the village. There's car parking, and a new deck area which is ideal to sit and chill in the mornings and evenings. The breakfast is excellent, with a good choice of cereals, teas, or coffee, and a choice of cooked full breakfasts. We enjoyed both the full English and the full Scottish options as well as select menu items on our last morning. Our hosts were friendly and welcoming, and our room was very comfortable, with probably the largest bed my wife and I have ever seen. The hotel is currently in the midst of a refurb, so not everything is in its final state. However none of this detracted from our experience.
- Tracy (4/5): Food good, accommodation needed more effort - The breakfast was lovely and staff were friendly and helpful. The en suite had clearly not been cleaned or used for a long while. There were cobwebs all over the bathroom, not just in the ceiling corners but in fact a whole mezzanine floor in the shower cubicle for the rather large spider in residence there. Also across the toilet and attached to the loo roll holder. A shame because I was in desperate need of a shower but was too exhausted to negotiate terms with the larger of the three spiders and then clean the shower myself.
- Kerry-ann (10/5): Would love to stay there again. Don't hesitate staying with them. - Rooms were spacious and comfortable. Staff were extremely friendly. Food was great. Dinner was like the home cooked meal you craved when away and breakfast was one of the best we've ever had when travelling. The bath tub in our unsuited was huge , again just what you want when travelling. Long hot soaks were had. The shower tiles had some mould in the grout but nothing some mould killer spray wouldn't fix. Didn't stop you using the shower or tub, just something that I noticed.
The dinner menu was a little limited with a few things not available BUT what we did have was fantastic.
- Elizabeth Karon (10/5): -
- Cathy (9/5): Rural gem - Staff/owners were amazing. Friendly, helpful people who were so accommodating. We would happily come back again.
Scottish breakfast was insanely good. If you get the chance, go there. Bar could have done with some heating.
- Pamela (8/5): -
- Julia (9/5): Would reccommend - Breakfast had to order he night before but came out perfect tried veg haggis good start to day
Location just off main road
Family run friendly hotel pet friendly The family are renovating the building doesn’t look great from outside
- Paul (10/5): - The breakfast was 10 out of 10 the location was great The staff where amazing and so accommodating thru our tonite stay
- Rachael (7/5): Good - Value for money. Food finished at eight. Needed to travel to find food as everything closed early apart from kebab shop in Annan
- Derek (9/5): A freindly hotel to take a break from our trip from Cornwall to Scotland and back. - The hotel if family run and everybody goes out of their way to make you welcome. Nothing
- Tierney (9/5): -
- Elizabeth (10/5): The owners were lovely, room and facilities were great, just what we needed. Thank you - Breakfast was brilliant. Cooked to perfection. There were plenty of options too and it was all served with a friendly smile. Can't fault it at all. Everything was superb. Cant fault anything
- Sandy (10/5): Very good, room clean and pet friendly. Will call again. - Location, service, breakfast, parking. Road noise , but it’s on a road and is not bad.
- llinos (10/5): Great hosts , lovely warm and cosy room , and a fantastic breakfast - We had a warm welcome off cath when we arrived, the room was beautifully decorated, I was surprised to see a great selection of tea, coffee and hot chocolate, along with some nice biscuits,
Our room was lovely and clean , so was the bathroom,
The breakfast was fantastic 😋 we were full for hours,
Thank you very much for a lovely stay and a great start to our holiday 😊
- Naigeon (9/5): -
- stephen (10/5): - Friendly staff, clean and excellent food
- JOSEPH (7/5): -
- Daniel (7/5): Great home cooked food & friendly, helpful hosts - Not far off the motorway. Recently refurbished I think. It was cold in the communal/public areas.
- Bryony (7/5): -
- Gary (9/5): Breakfast is the best. Nice times for checkout not rushed. - The best breakfast, perfectly cooked, hot and plentiful.
Car park large with security lights, good for winter evenings as not many street lights around.
- Virginie (7/5): Week-end - Jolie petite chambre Lit et couette trop courts
- Fred (9/5): -
- Lorna (8/5): -

- Katherine (9/5): - Most of all the friendly staff. The delicious home cooked dinner, the steak pie was superb and the substantial Scottish breakfast. The room was spotlessly clean and had everything I needed. Would definitely stay there again. Nothing.
- Clktaylor (10/5): -
- Running Against The Wind (9/5): - Easy access to M74. Great owners and freindly pub. The room & facilities were spot on, the food & drinks selection good & reasonably priced.
For bikers, an excellent alternative to Moffat, secure lockup & facilities available at much more wallet friendly prices.
- Geoff (9/5): Great hotel for an overnight stopover or if you are visiting that part of Scotland - Easy to find & close to the M74 motorway. Quiet location & welcoming staff. Nothing
- Richard (10/5): Surprising find - A great place, secure parking.
Surprisingly quite. Biker friendly. Nothing
