- Syeda (9/5): Superb - We loved our stay at the guest house. Felt like we are at home. Breakfast was great as well. Pearl was the most welcoming host we had ever encountered. Friendly and kind.
- David (6/5): Host excellent but not the owner, the lady who runs the b&b was very good, cooked us an excellent br - The host. Bedding needs replacing room a bit dated, shower didn't work so we didn't use it, we've decided now best stick to Premier inn's or Travelodge.
- Lindsay (7/5): Good -

- Una (6/5): Pleasant - The accommodation is fairly basic but very clean. The breakfast was good, the landlady very friendly, the room small but comfy, and communciation was good. They provided a parking pass so I could park on the street, which was really helpful. It is in a very busy area, opposite the Calderdale Hospital. I asked for decaf refreshments and vegeterian breakfast and the landlady went out of her way to provide these. are on an exceptionally busy road. After I booked, I asked for a quiet room and got a reply to say it wasn't very quiet and I could change my booking on Booking.com if I wanted to. It was too late to find other accommodation then but I appreciated this honesty. My room faced onto Huddersfield Road and it was extremely noisy. However, to my relief, shutting the window buffered the sound considerbly and I had a decent night's sleep. Simple,
- Paul (8/5): Very comfortable - The breakfast is excellent no complaints at all. All OK good value for money
- A. (9/5): Superb -
- Alastair (8/5): Very good -
- GARY (8/5): - Pearl, the proprietor runs Kirk Lea on her own after her husband's heart attack and she does a great job. The room was lovely, clean & tidy though with a bit of dated decor.
Comfortable bed and the breakfast was top notch or should I say top nosh. Would definitely stay here again but the owner is looking to sell as Pearl is looking to move and quit running a b&b. An easy 8.5/10
- Denise (8/5): Very good - Pearl and Dave were great hosts. They were very warm and they made me very welcome.
They provided an enormous breakfast.
They helped me with local advice that was very helpful since I was new to the area.
- Gela (10/5): Exceptional -
- Candyberner (10/5): Exceptional - A lovely warm welcome. Felt like staying with a family memeber. The room was comfy and clean ! The breakfast was outstanding! Would come back if we was up this way again. Nothing !
- Ben (9/5): really comfortable, clean and great breakfast - superb host and value for money. microwave in the room so could prepare a late night snack, and make tea for the money absolutely nothing!
- Robert (10/5): Good - Have stayed here many times
- Amanda (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic service the breakfast was absolutely delicious ๐
- Daisy (3/5): dirty beddings - dirty bedding sheets, someone previously spelt coffee inside microwave, I tried to clean but gave up, because it was dirty. I do not mind small rooms, but beddings should be clean and fresh.
- Anonymous (7/5): cheap and does the job! lovely staff -
- Adnan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrea (4/5): Clean, no frills, cost-effective. - Good location - 5 min drive from the train station or about a 25 minute walk I booked last minute and there was no-one here to let me in! I waited outside in the cold for an hour. To be fair to the owner, she was away so perhaps this wouldnโt happen usually. No hairdryer in the room and shower pressure not great.
- Linda (5/5): Passable -
- Gareth (9/5): Lovely people usually run lovely Guest Houses and this is an example of that. - Pearl is lovely, and makes sure everything is good and you have everything you need. The WiFi works perfectly and all facilities are well catered for. I really recommend this, and hope everything works out well for Pearl. Nothing really - it's a bit out of town, and parking isn't easy, but that's pretty much everywhere now.
- Catherine.l.1989 (10/5): Wonderful stay! - The owner was so lovely and it was a pleasure speaking to her, I felt very welcome and comfortable almost immediately and the room was clean and very comfortable. I couldn't have asked for a more pleasant stay, I highly recommend this place and I will definitely return in the near future. Thank you so much for hosting us ๐ Nothing at all. Everything was great ๐
- Malcolm (7/5): Value for money and the location was ideal for us. - The breakfast was great and real value for money.
Our hostess Pearl was lovely and very helpful.
- Jean (8/5): Very good - Breakfast Very noisy next to road slept very little, pulled curtains but don't close proper, not keen on pre order breakfast.Choice of sheet aswell as duvet as warm during night.
- Ramli (10/5): Exceptional -
- William (9/5): Wonderful B&B - Lovely, huge room and massive comfortable bed. Pearl is a lovely lady and looked after us superbly. Perfect location for the town while also being nice and quiet, excellent breakfast cooked to order and served with a smile. The ability to come and go as you please is very handy indeed. We'll definitely be back when we're in the area.
- Anonymous (7/5): You get what you pay for, cheap and cheerful - received a warm friendly welcome, basic B&B but ideal for a short stay
- Uchenna (7/5): Good -
- Richard (7/5): break for a family wedding - great location, very good breakfast & comfortable rooms nothing
- Holt (8/5): Very good - Breakfast was good (could add musesli to cereals available). Staff were friendly and the place was well-kept. It is simple and very good value. Also, reasonably easy to find. A shared bathroom and toilet for my single room (which is small) are not ideal; but both were clean and worked well. For the price I would not complain.
- Helen (7/5): Good - Staff very helpful and friendly, good breakfast and eating space. Good room size. Location encouraged me to walk into Halifax which was a great way to start the day, especially as I found a route off the noisy main road. Property on a very busy road, at times sounded like a race track. Timer light in bathroom going off when in shower so a bit annoying.
- Martensa (9/5): Really enjoyed the stay - a variety of tasty options for breakfast, friendly, very hospitable and safe atmosphere, comfy beds with multiple pillows, reliable wifi, fans in the rooms, close to the bus stops, available umbrellas, thick curtains that really block any outside light You could disclose the information that sure, every room has a private bathroom but a single room's bathroom is across the hall which is not exactly comfortable 'when nature calls' in the middle of the night
- Robert (10/5): great stay - i always stay here they are great people n/a
- Daniel (9/5): Great stop for weary bikers - Comfy bed, helpful staff, breakfast, price Some areas in need of repair
- Albert (4/5): Doable for a short stay, but I wouldn't recommend it. - The hostess was friendly and made me sandwiches for my trip back instead of breakfast on my last morning. The breakfast was made well, with a lot of options and big portions. The room came with a fan which really helped with the ongoing heat, and the TV had loads of channels which helped me fill some hours. The chairs in the room itself were comfy. The location (see above); the motion sensors in the bathroom are -terribly- designed. You can't take a shower or go about your business without the light going out, which is incredibly annoying and a safety hazard. The shower itself took forever to heat up, and when it finally did, there was barely any water pressure (might be because of the heat/drought). There was no taxi-phone available on the premises, and Dave refused to assist me over the Booking app with acquiring a cab (though I managed to sort things out in the end.) It is my understanding that it is a basic service to arrange for a cab when someone requests one.
But the weirdest thing of all is that the B&B is in the process of "possibly" being sold, which I only found out about because I came back early from Halifax due to an heat-stroke. There was a contractor going about, measuring up the rooms and what not. They were given free access to our rooms, with zero oversight from the couple running the B&B. While I was resting, he barged into my room not knowing I was in there and not expecting me to be. I could have been in my birthday suit, or could have left a laptop or my passport in the room which would have been up for grabs. Not only was this incredibly awkward but it poses a big security risk. (He apologized and I let him continue measuring the room, but honestly, what the hell?)
If you want to sell the B&B, stop taking customers in at the same time. That's just trying to have your cake and eat it too.
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb -
- Jane (8/5): Very good -
- Unown (6/5): Friendly staff, good food, great price - Friendly and helpful staff, tasty made-to-order English breakfast, and great price! No hot water and no pressure in the shower.
- Richard (8/5): Very good - Helpful and friendly hosts. Breakfast great. Location worked well for all the areas we planned to visit. Early book in arranged in advance.
- Dave (5/5): Friendly. Good English Breakfast. Dรฉcor decidedly 1970's. Next to a noisy road. No off-road parking. - The cooked breakfast was good, with attention to detail. The staff were FRIENDLY and HELPFUL, although they are somewhat elderly and unable to stay up for people arriving after 8pm (due in part to a recent medical condition). So our estimated 9-10pm arrival time was quite a problem, and messed them around! They would much prefer all guests to always arrive before 8pm. The WiFi is good (standard domestic router) but could be made even better with a proper KirkLea network name combined with an easier to type password.
We were just using it as a stopover, but for anyone visiting family in the hospital it is very well situated.
We parked for free on a side road right next to the property. (They have no off-road parking, and parking restrictions apply most of the day). But as we arrived later and left before 9am we were were ok even without using the Kirk Lea provided parking permits. The double room we were in faced a busy road, and our sleep was disturbed by it. So it was hard for country folk like us to get to sleep, and the road noise woke me before 6am. The dรฉcor is 1970's style with thick brown carpets and a bright green motif on the wall paper. The bay window curtains wouldn't pull easily (so I climbed on a chair to close them - I think it needs a new curtain rail). The bathroom lights (although supposed to be on an ECO timer) stayed stuck on all night and we couldn't turn them off.
Other than the road noise, a little bit of DIY work on the room could easily bring it up to a more modern standard.
- Joseph (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Susan (8/5): Very good -
- Eunice (6/5): Great location and nice people - The staff is lovely and it's always available to solve problems in the accommodation. Breakfast is great! Full English breakfast cooked properly. the room has tea, coffee and milk at your disposal, and that's really nice. The Wi-Fi is good. The room was tiny, with a tiny window, and there was hardly any light coming into the room. The room was not clean on my arrival but it was resolved by the staff after I asked them to clean it. There's a lot of noise coming from the road, and basically, there's traffic all night. It's hard to have a good night's sleep with all the noise
- Verified traveler (2/5): Unclean - On arrival at this hotel, it was found to be dirty and disgusting, to the point where we did not stay.
- Peter (10/5): Excellent B&B - Large comfortable room, decent location, a great cooked breakfast, a good price and an excellent host - Pearl
- Steven (8/5): - Very clean and comfy, great breakfast. However the main road was very noisy, tv had an intermittent signal and the shower was very weak. But I can only comment on the one room.
- Haseeb (8/5): - Friendly, attentive and helpful hosts.
Recent new carpet ๐
Nice cooked breakfast
Good job all round guys! Keep up the good work.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice period property like a number in the area, facilities excellent and very friendly and quick service, nothing too much trouble.
Car parking OK on my visit but there is a massive pay and display across the road.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Quirky decor and an.older property, but our room was comfortable, other than that we had trouble getting the radiator to work our first night there. Our host, Joe, was extremely hospitable and helpful with references to local restaurants and taxi service, and cooked us an excellent breakfast to order both days. No lift, but the one flight of stairs was easy to negotiate, and Joe brought our heavy suitcases up to our room for us.
- Gordon (6/5): Kirk Lea - Our hosts are very friendly and helpful and provide a great breakfast.
The single rooms are a bit sad now but the bed was comfortable.
The room I booked was supposed to have a private bathroom but didnt.
It is in a convenient location only a mile from the city and station.
At a busy junction but surprisingly quiet.
The top floor has a steep staircase so avoid if you have mobility issues.
- nicholas (10/5): Good stay at Kirk Lea Guest House - I had a very comfortable stay at Kirk Lea Guest House. The Room was comfortable and the breakfast was good. There is parking nearby and the location is easy to find. The host is very helpful.
- Andrew (10/5): Worth a second visit - Stayed here alone for one night, the house is at the side of a very busy road and so suffers from traffic noise. However this did not detract from my stay. The double glazing managed to contain most of the noise. The decoration was tired in places but again at the price there has to be a compromise. The house is clean and the hosts excellent, friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was excellent too, lovely and hot and fresh from the kitchen. This was an inexpensive stay and was certainly value for money. I would certainly return again when in the area.
- Philip (8/5): Basic guesthouse, with friendly hostess, - Pearl is a really friendly landlady, who mskes a lovely breakfast
- Robert (8/5): good place, nice host, top breakfast - Pearl, the host, is really helpful and informative. Provides a brilliant breakfast.
- Mike (8/5): Great budget hotel - Better than I expected for the money. Great, friendly staff and superb breakfast.
- Carl (8/5): - Good value, great breakfast
