Guest Reviews
- Allison (10/5): Wonderful Hotel&Staff - When we arrived Mauricio greeted us, helped us check in, and also upgraded our room to the second level for free. The room is super big and clean. There’s a balcony and from it you can see/hear monkeys, macaws, parrots, iguanas, and so many more animals. We were also able to get reservations to Corcovado National Park through the person at the reception desk. At the end of the trip we were also able to get reception to call us a taxi within 5 minutes of needing it. It was a lovely hotel with friendly staff too.
- David (10/5): - There are many options for a luxury stay at Bahia Drake, which this is not a luxury place. It is clean, safe, and pool is great at end of hot day. It is excellent at a reasonable price point. It is not luxury but that’s not why we were here.
- Judy (8/5): - A decent option for a quick overnight with a reasonable price.
- Emily (6/5): - There was some confusion at check-in which made it a long process after 36 hours of flying. The first night we were exhausted but woken up by loud motorcycles circling at 2:30am. Otherwise everything was great. Staff was very nice and accommodating. Breakfast was delicious. Bed was comfortable and room was nice. Pool was a nice benefit. The filtered water was nice to have.
- Janon (10/5): - We stayed 5 nights at Hotel Margarita. We had them (Alberto) book our tours and found that if you pay cash (dollars or colones) you save some money on your tours. We did the snorkeling (well worth the money!) - 4 different snorkeling stops, an island stop and a wonderful lunch at a local restaurant. Corcovado Park tour - make sure and take shoes to get wet getting in and out of the boat, as well as shoes to wear while touring the park (they provide a lunch at the part and you are not allowed to wear your hiking shoes in the facility). And the surprise wonderful tour that we took was horseback riding! The horses turned into a river and actually walked in and out of the river - your feet get wet often (very nice as it cools you down), you then hike a little bit to a wonderful waterfall - wear your suit! You get to swim and it is SO refreshing! As far as the hotel, we loved the pool, room, and the location! Our room had a great deck and so many beautiful birds were constantly out there on the nearby trees - download the app Merlin - it will identify birds by their call. The hotel is a short walk to the boat pickup for tours, etc. and just around the corner from the row of awesome restaurants in Drake Bay. We ate at a different place every meal and loved all of them! Overall, we loved everything about our stay at Hotel Margarita!
- Christina (8/5): - Overall fairly good accomodation, great experience with birds around hotel.
- Kelly (10/5): - Birders paradise, friendly staff always there to help!! Highly recommend if you are staying in Drake Bay!!!
- Louise (10/5): - A comfortable place to stay, and a reasonable price.
- Jeron (10/5): - Close to restaurants and has a good pool area. The wildlife just outside the window in the morning made this a memorable stay for sure!
- Steven (10/5): - My whole family loved our stay at Hotel Margarita in August 2024. The area of Drake Bay was pretty, but it is very rustic (dirt roads, limited dining, restaurants are open-air with no A/C, etc). However, Hotel Margarita definitely exceeded our expectations. We stayed in Room #1 (Luxury Double Room with 1 King, 1 Queen, & 1 Twin bed). The room was updated and the A/C worked great. We were pleasantly surprised to see lots of small toucans right outside our room on multiple occasions during the daytime. We also saw scarlet macaws flying from a distance. The hotel staff were very friendly, and they even came to knock on our door once to let us know that some larger toucans were right outside as well (the kind from the Fruit Loops box). The breakfast was $9/person, but the food was very good and it included such things as fresh fruit, pancakes or an omelette, coffee, and orange juice. The staff will make reservations or arrange tours if you want (they arranged a night tour for us). Overall we loved our three nights at Hotel Margarita.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - We had a great stay at Hotel Margarita. The staff were so helpful and nice. For example, they gave advice on how to get there as we weren't sure whether to drive or boat, then booked the boat for us and transported our luggage and us from the beach. The rooms spacious and clean and had everything we needed. The pool is nice to cool off in. We stayed 4 nights with our 2 teenagers and we all really liked it. Nice relaxed vibe.
- Rosanna (10/5): Clean, friendly, natural - Perfect spot to base in Drake Bay. Casual and well maintained. Shower was great! And from the pool you can see so many birds, it's almost like a little wildlife tour.
- randall (8/5): - The overall appearance of the property was favorable, but one soon observed that many small details needed attention: a large, loosened panel on the main stairway was not only a tripping hazard but was unsightly as were many pieces of rebar emanating from the concrete that clearly previously supported something but were left in place in a most unsightly manner. A few simple tools and hardware pieces would be an easy fix for both. The exterior wall of the facility possessed many pock marks that also could be easily fixed. The pool was accommodating but lacked half of the decorative tiles from the top of the pool leaving unsightly spaces of adhesive. A nearby container housed a large collection of these tiles that were apparently meant for patrons to add to upon additional tiles falling off. Draining a few inches from the pool and using simple tile adhesive to the unattached tiles would be an easy fix. Upon entering the property, there was no sign indicating where to check in. It took a few minutes to find the small office where the attendant wasn't unfriendly but not particularly welcoming either. The chef, on the other hand, was wonderful and clearly enjoyed talking with the guests. Food was fairly priced and was decent. Rooms were sparsely furnished but fine, and a small fridge was helpful.
- Chris (10/5): Great stay at Hotel Margarita in Drake Bay - Best stay in Drake Bay. Rooms were clean, cool, and comfortable with great beds. Pool area and back porch were perfect for afternoons following tours. Front desk was super attentive and helpful with reserving taxis and answering all our questions.
- Mark (10/5): - Great hotel and location for the price. Simple and clean, functional, nice staff. Highly recommend for this budget!!!
- Judy (10/5): - We were met from Drake Bay upon arrival and took us up the road to our hotel. The kitchen was very accommodating for breakfast and made us early breakfasts several days. The pool was beautiful and the room was air conditioned. Very nice. We also had a great view from the balcony of the trees and mountains and toucans on a nearby tree one night.
- DANIEL (8/5): - The hotel is good value for money and in a nice location. Our room was quite dark as only the bathroom has a window but this was not a problem as we did not spend much time in the room. The pool area is quite small with only 4 chairs at the poolside which is not enough for a hotel this size. The staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel feels slighly outdates and could do with some renovations but the price reflects this.
- Colleen (10/5): - Wonderful place to stay, we loved it!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely hotel - Our room was clean, spacious and very well appointed with a comfortable King bed and a queen bed. Plenty of hot water and a good shower. Good pool and terrace with hammocks. The tree outside our window was visited every day by 3-4 toucans - fantastic to watch all their behaviour at such close quarters. Thanks to Mauricio for all his help. Highly recommended.
- Jerry (10/5): - We had a very nice stay at this property. It's close to everything, rooms were clean, beds were nice and everything worked great. Staff was helpful if you needed anything, the pool was nice. Thanks!
- Hilary (10/5): - We loved our 2 nights at Hotel Margarita! The room was large, loads of windows to watch the birds, private patio, air conditioning, and the pool were great features. Friendly helpful staff as well.
- Jason (10/5): - Mauricio the property manager is very helpful with information on tours in the area and anything else you may need during your stay. Laundry service on site is reasonable and quick. I was a week into my trip when I arrived at Hotel Margarita and I dropped off laundry in the morning and it was ready when I returned from my excursion. I highly recommend Hotel Margarita and will stay there again when I return to Drake Bay!
- Rich (10/5): - Mauricio was very helpful when we arrived, even gave us a better room as ours was on the second floor. And, carrying luggage upstairs would have been difficult. The location was good too as we had a whale watching tour the next morning and were able to leave our bags with Mauricio and walk down to the beach. Would recommend staying here!
- Timothy (6/5): - We spent 5 nights at Hotel Margarita and our experience was up and down.
We arrived on the boat from Sierpe and unfortunately the hotel had made no arrangements to pick us up. When I walked up to the hotel the staff were clueless. When they put us in a room the A/C and fridge weren’t working. They did move us to another nice room. It was very comfortable with nice beds and it had a beautiful bathroom. We liked the views and they have a lovely patio area with hammocks where we could read, relax and watch the birds. The pool looks great but unfortunately they use some type of chemical that’s not chlorine and it stings the eyes and tastes terrible. It was very hot while we were there and we would have spent more time in the pool if not for the chemicals.
The little bar and restaurant are run by Dixon who is a great chef and made a wide variety of dishes that were delicious. Even if you’re not staying here, it’s a nice option for dinner. The property was well kept up except sometimes dishes were left lying in the common areas for too long.
Overall it was a nice, comfortable place to stay and a little more care from front desk would make a world of difference.
- Susan (8/5): - Hotel Margarita has the best pool so far on this trip. Unlike other pools it was refreshing, (but not cold). The hotel staff was wonderful and very helpful. The only negative for me is that their standard rooms have windows that gave the common hallway. When closed for privacy the room feels like a cave. Although it was very comfortable I need natural light to truly be content.
- Jacqueline (10/5): - This hotel is a gem in this remote little town adjacent to Corcovado National Park. It has a lovely pool plus a large terrace and decks where you can watch colorful birds in the surrounding trees. The hotel restaurant is very good and the staff were extremely helpful in setting up tours for us and helping us with other recommendations. We would definitely stay here again.
- Liliana (10/5): - The restaurant has delicious options of meals and the staff are friendly
- Scott (10/5): - Great stay at Hotel Margarita. From getting picked up from the boat (a mini-adventure itself), to a easy check-in, made for an stress-free arrival at Drake Bay. The quiet pool was glorious after morning tours. The only issue was wifi reception in the room was poor, but decent by the pool/office/restaurant area.
- Chandra (10/5): - We loved our stay at Hotel Margarita. Our rooms were comfortable and clean and the property is quaint and pretty. There is a small pool for cooling off and great views of birds in the trees all around. It’s just a few minutes walk to the water for all your boat based activities but it is dirt road and a bit steep so keep that in mind for your own physical abilities. What makes this place stand out is the staff. They are so kind and helpful and we enjoyed talking with Maurico and learning more about this area. He’s a busy guy but always goes out of his way to help. A very special shout out to Dixon, the chef at the attached restaurant, DinerCraft. My daughter has celiac and can also not eat dairy and he not only understood her needs but went out of his way to make her delicious meals that she could eat and stay healthy. All of our food here was exceptional. The bar is good too, we got many fresh fruit smoothies and cocktails, all delicious. I would highly recommend Hotel Margarita and DinerCraft for anyone looking for personalized service right in the middle of town.
- Angela (10/5): - Maurico, the manager was excellent and very helpful in booking us a trip to Sirena Station. The pros: it was clean, quiet, and you could hear the beautiful jungle birds and animals. One rainbow-colored tropical bird visited us every day at our shower window. The neighborhood dogs were a delight. The attached restaurant's dishes were delicious and the cook was very kind and accommodating. The pancakes for breakfast and the smoothies were incredible and my daughter is still raving about them. The air conditioning was wonderful. It was located near a lot of the activities and walkable to the beach pickup. The cons: could have used a dryer somewhere on the property for wet clothes. Wifi was spotty, but that might be the case anywhere in Drake Bay. A TV would be great.
- John (10/5): - Great place to stay. Mauricio was very welcoming and hugely helpful with booking me onto a Sirena Corcovado tour at late notice. Pool was clean and a real bonus, rooms very spacious. Overall very impressed!
- Jose (6/5): - Este es un hotel pequeño. Se puede ir caminando a restaurantes, super mercados, y a la playa Agujitas.
- Cynthia (10/5): - This is a wonderful little hotel right in town. Our room (B) had a lovely deck where we watched spider and howler monkeys!
The staff is very helpful, rooms are very clean, as is the rest of the hotel. All our tours were set up by the front desk(in advance) and they helped with all our questions.
The restaurant is quite good, they even arranged an early morning breakfast on the day we had an early tour.
Hotel is in town so there are typical noises for the location. Highly recommend this property.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great room & location in Drake Bay - We loved our clean room and large balcony. We had great views to enjoy the island and local wildlife. The attached restaurant had good food and drinks available through the day and night. The hotel pool and patio area also provided the right amount of socializing. The hotel manager, Mauricio, was also very attentive.
- Celia (10/5): - We loved staying here! The staff are amazing! The rooms clean and comfy. We can’t wait to return.
- Danyell (8/5): - Great clean little hotel in Drake Bay/ it’s new and cute. The staff was so sweet and helpful. The food is all made fresh to order from local produce/fish and is GREAT! Perfect location for the area we would stay here again if coming back to fish or visit Corcovado
- RICHARD (8/5): Had to pay CASH?!? - Bring cash when you come to Drake Bay! There are no bank machines, and not all services and restaurants take credit cards. To that point... the hotel did not accept credit card and we used a good portion of our cash on hand to pay for the hotel! This is extremely inconvenient for their customers and should be fixed!
- daveA (8/5): - nice grounds. comfortable room. helpful staff. close to many restaurants. 15 minute walk to beach.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location just a 5 minute walk to the central beach in Drale Bay. The hotel is new and has more rooms under construction. The staff was super helpful. We loved Drake Bay. Definitely off the beaten path, dirt rodes, lot of locald and tourists shuffling in and out every few days.
- Laurent (10/5): - Mauricio and his staff took great care of us and the facilities are top rated compared to other properties in drake bay village. Highly recommend!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A very clean, comfy and cosy option with regards to the location (Bahia Drake).
Even saw toucans right at our windows while usually hard to spot.
The staff was absolutely welcoming and helpful.
Would definitely stay there again.
- Alex (10/5): - The manager is very friendly. He helped us to get around, picked us up from the boat beach and arrange the way back in the boat. I will definitely stay at the same hotel when I am at Drake bay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owner was friendly and very helpful. He booked us an amazing tour that took us horse back riding through the jungle followed by a hike and finished with floating back down a river, through the jungle. His wife greeted us back with a home cooked lunch, amazing experience.
- Trevor (10/5): - Room was gorgeous and very comfortable. Manager was very helpful with recommendations and setting up transportation for us
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The property is right in Drake Bay. It looks stunning but they are struggling on some items in guest service. The website is misleading. Under services they list a restaurant but there was not one. When we left they were in the process of being able to offer breakfast.
Also under transportation they do not offer a shuttle. They will pick you up and drop you off only to take the boat to Sierpe. It's not a van just a taxi. https://hotelmargarita.co.cr/tours/transporte/
- Verified traveler (10/5): - New, nice property. Excellent staff. Air conditioning, pool, coffee, and water are good. Will be better when kitchen is completed.
- Charles (10/5): Great place in Drake Bay - We stayed two nights so we could do the boat trip/hike to Sirena Station. Although there was some confusion when we arrived, largely due to the office AC being changed, our room was lovely and the service excellent. We had a large room with a huge balcony. The hotel appears to be almost brand new and expanding. Highly recommend!
- Heather (10/5): - This place was perfect for our needs. It is reasonably priced, clean, and beautiful. There is a pool to cool off in with a very nice sitting area around it. The people are incredibly friendly and accommodating. I wouldn’t hesitate a second to book again. Thank you so much!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We loved the friendly and accommodating staff. The rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable. The distance to the beach was ore
- jane (10/5): - This is a hotel that just opened last year and is still in progress. It is very nice, clean, simple, with a staff that goes out of their way to be helpful and generous to keep you happy. The dining area was still being constructed so no food service was available. They did provide excellent coffee.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We were at this hotel in late January. There were renovations and construction being done, but they didn’t affect our pleasure. They will be completed I imagine by mid February. Great staff, fun, clean, new facilities in a terrific small Costa Rican town, with several great restaurants. Transportation to Drake Bay by boat made this outing a great adventure for us. We would definitely come crack to Drake Bay and the Margarita
- Jeffrey (10/5): Relaxing stay in a remote location - Great hotel in a rustic town. Great local food, if you like simple food cooked by local people. Hotel is wonderful, very comfortable with air conditioning and helpful staff
- Jose (8/5): - Great option for a budget hotel. Located a 5 min walk from the beach. They shuttle you to and from the hotel. The area surrounding the hotel seems to be developing quickly as there was a lot of construction during our stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hotel was clean and close to the beach. Staff was super friendly and well connected to all the other hotels and businesses. We enjoyed our stay and would stay there again if we would travel to Costa Rica.
