The cottage smelled like a combination of mold, mildew, and pet urine. The sheets look like they had not been changed. It was in really bad shape. It was so bad that we could not stay there.

Justine & Roland Pena (1/5): Says it's pet friendly but they're not - Fantastic location Only two towels and two washcloths were stained. No soap, not even hand soap or dish soap! No extra towel. Nothing for the beach whatsoever, not even an extra towel. No even travel size shampoo. I was expecting at least soap in the kitchen for hand washing or dishes. No cable on the television. The couch was very, very old and a little bit scary. To be honest, it looked like a lot of bacteria. No chairs in the lounge area, just 2 hard wooden chairs next to a hard wooden table to eat. So you had to sit on the couch or you couldn't sit anywhere. There is only enough hot water for one shower! But I was willing to deal with all of that. I will tell you what made me the most upset is that I paid $120 pet deposit for my two little 12 lb Dachshunds because it's a pet friendly place. I was told that they barked for 10 minutes after I left until they got settled, and I wasn't allowed to leave them in the crate when I went out to dinner. If I left the cottage I had to take my dogs with me even though I paid a deposit for them to be there I had to be there with them at all times and nobody does that on vacation all dogs bark for 5 or 10 minutes after you leave it's a pet friendly place that doesn't mean you have to take your pets with you everywhere you go most restaurants don't allow pets that's why I bought a crate for them to be left in the crate when we were gone she said because they barked for 10 minutes after we left that I couldn't leave my dogs there. If I knew this rule, I wouldn't have booked here because they don't tell you this rule ahead of time. You're not allowed to leave your dogs in the cottage when you're not there even if you pay a deposit for them to be there and no restaurants allow dogs. After you check in, you will see this note on the refrigerator, but if I knew beforehand, I wouldn't have booked.

(7/5): It’s less expensive than most places, so we’ll probably return. - Upstairs, patio, two rooms, shower tub combo, full kitchen, no dishwasher Tv kept buffering… weak signal between 9-11 pm… so too many watching for the weak signal strength/speed. Furniture not arranged for tv viewing. No soap provided. Only one face towel for two people. Smoke alarm disconnected and battery out. No drain covers for bathroom sink and shower… open holes. Autumn (6/5): Semi Tree Front View - The location was close enough that it was a short drive to the pier or anything else you may have wanted to see. The AC unit worked very well. I payed extra for a "semi Ocean front" room. In no way was the cottage I was at ocean front. It was nestled in the middle of taller houses and trees. Had I known that this was somehow considered ocean front I would not have paid extra, because the standard room was the room next to us. Also, the lighting made things like getting ready in the morning for a female difficult. The mirror was too high in the bathroom to do your makeup there, but the mirror in the bedroom had all the light coming from behind you, so there was no proper lighting for shading and shadows.

Stoneburner (7/5): Good - Friendly staff, old but decent interior. Very close to the beach, beach was not over crowded, the cottages are secluded from the road and felt very safe. The cottages are old and you get what you pay for but we enjoyed the stay and would stay again. Bathroom was very small and a bit uncomfortable.

Ashley (3/5): Nice area. But I would not stay at Avon Cottages again. - It was in a great location Found several roaches. Toilet was loose. Sofa smelled like wet dog. Pull out sofa mattress had a large brown stain on it with evidence of bed bugs. Kitchen facet was loose. The front door is not sealed at the bottom. The front door is not secure when locked.

Property is not as modern or up to date, but overall was a great p - I liked the location of the property to the beach and that accessibility. I also loved that it was pet friendly! It was not the cleanest. Many of the dishes and appliances were dirty upon arrival. The outdoor shower was also not clean so it was hard to use after the beach.

No sleep couch. The management was rude. I ask for sheets after hours her response was” no sheets” she was like the grandma soup nazi. This is the only bad review I have written in 30 years

Domenic (8/5): Very good - It was in walking distance of the beach. The kitchen was fully stocked with cookware. They provided a broom, which was very much needed, due to the sand. The living quarters were well maintained. The exterior of the building is a bit run down. The stairs are particularly important for safety yet, they have nails coming loose.

Paul (8/5): Unpretentious and almost neglected, but private and relaxing, skip and jump to fab beach. - Unpretentious, even somewhat frayed (literally in places) but therefore very relaxing and convenient. Bed sags somewhat, toilet needs fine-tuning, no salt/pepper.
Brandi (4/5): Disappointing - Room was clean- didn't realize it was going to be right next door to another tenant. The tenants were very noisy and played loud music until 3am.
Augustus (8/5): Very enjoyable stay. Cottage had everything we needed to cook and relax. - Very close to the beach. In a nice little outer banks town. Not to the fault of the property but the people below us were with a group of people. They choose the room below us as the hangout place. They played loud music and had like 6 kids running around and yelling. Which is fine for them for vacation that’s what people do. My wife and I live in the country so the constant loud noise made our dogs bark a lot. Happens.

John (9/5): John's Avon cottage assessment. - I liked the facilities and the location. Also it was close to the pier and grocery store and tackle shop. Did not have much luck fishing this trip, but still enjoyable. The weather was comfortable. My units size was perfect for me. Very comfortable. Could have used a dish strainer in the kitchen for dishes.

Amos (10/5): Wonderful stay in Avon - We always have a wonderful time at the Avon Cottages, it is in walking distance from most of the the local shops, short walk to the beach.. The sunsets are just as beautiful as the sunrises.. Had a great time!! The beds need improvement but overall no other complaints..
