- Robison Crawford (2/5): This hotel/inn was misrepresented. We found no Spa. The Inn had Very few amenities - Location, Nice location, but the room leaves much to be desired. 9-12-2025 / 9-17-2025 CUMBERLAND INN & SPA. Nice location, but the room leaves much to be desired. They provided no tissues, no glasses, no refrigerator, no ice, no TV remote and a light switch that did not work. Room 8 is in a dingy attic with the most uncomfortable bed I have experienced in a hotel. A double bed where each person rolled toward the middle. The double bed was about 3 ft high, no stool to help a person to get into bed. At 5'2" it was hard for me to get into bed w/o my husbands help. We took the only room they had with a private bath on the 3rd / 4th floor, (60 STEPS) Supposingly the inn was full but we have only seen two couples. They advertise that they have a spa, we never saw the spa nor did we see anything about the spa. The downstairs lounge had a TV, but again, no remote for that TV either. This was a 4 day stay. It was an experience, but for one time only.

Kerry was very accomidating and offered a different room in another section. Over all for the price it was a good place to stay. Very unique. Rm #9 My bed wasn't comfy at all. Felt like I was sleeping downhill. Would be nice to control the ac in the room. As it was a tad to cool.

- Mary Clare (8/5): I loved my stay in Cumberland and the unique Inn - I love the historic building and location. There was no Microwave anywhere on the property. Also needed a work space, no desk to be found. I needed to go to the coffee shop to use a table.
- Karyn (7/5): Perfect for a short trip. - I liked the space and the ease of checking in. The location was good in the sense that it was close to restaurants and attractions, but not too close to the railroad. The bed was comfortable and I liked the many outlets. The road was busy and I could hear the highway and people in the other rooms. Still, I slept well. The bathroom was basic and the alcove in room 12 could have used a table.

Carpet on the stairs needs to be removed, very dirty. The entry into and out of the garage for bike storage should be updated to a more accessible ramp style entry, both inside and outside. A small refrigerator in the room would be appreciated.

If I did, the lights were perfectly fine. The problem was me. I didn't realize that they could be adjusted. If I did say something about the lights in the room please discount my earlier comment about the lights
- Brandy (10/5): Great place to stay - The inn was right off the highway and easy to find. You’ll want to park in the back of the property and the steps to enter are within feet of parking. The owner sent me a text with the door codes and explained how to find my key. I was in room 14 that had a double bed. It was for one night and I travel 100% for work so I’m always in hotels this stop was pleasant and relaxing. Room was clean and bathroom was as well. After I long work day and hours of driving I took a shower, ate, and crawled into bed.

- Verified traveler (10/5): Historic site, charming with quirks - Fun place to stay. Beautiful historic building, which has its charms, but it also has very thin walls. At midnight, we got to hear all about the neighbor’s evening, including tales from their bathroom experience.
- Dana (10/5): - This property was comfortable and nice. It was an older place but has been kept up and taken care of. It was cool that it had spa services there but we did not use those. We saw no one else there while we were there except a couple from Indianapolis that was just keeping their car there. Otherwise I think we were the only guest despite several rooms. A good word to describe it- quaint. We would recommend this place and would stay there again if ever in that area again
- Bond (8/5): No phone, no entry and no check in is possible without the kindness of strangers - The price and the ambiance of the place. The absence of staff, I never met any. This absence makes access to the facility very difficult if you don't have a working cell phone to call the owner, likewise check in is by phone, if no working phone, one is in great difficulty
- Commander Chip (5/5): Good location, but a very old property. - The room was large. The location was excellent, if you want to walk into town. Parking was adequate. The bed was very bouncy, but comfortable. The coffee service in the lounge was a nice touch. This is an OLD! property. You can't go in, out, or through without taking stairs. The floors are uneven and present a problem for anyone with balance issues. There was no air conditioning in our room. The room was on Greene Street and extremely noisy. The blinds were broken. There is no housekeeping service, as far as I could tell. We were there for 4 days and never had the bed made or the trash emptied. There was good hot water in the shower, but the water pressure was low.

- Lorraine (2/5): Wouldnsout out a different place for our next trip to the town. - The location was very convenient. The Inn needs a good cleaning, paint touch up, and the rugs up extremely badly stained. The shared bathrooms (every room except one shares) are lacking good locking, a simple slide lock and push lock in the door handle. I would not recommend it for single or women travelers. We were luckily the only clients in the entire Inn so did not have to share the tiny bathroom. The room had a large closet but no hangers and there was not an extra roll of TP, which is generally found in rooms. The only time we saw an employe/ owner was when she came into the lounge where we we reading to add some coffee pods. There was only a brief hello exchange.

- Michele (10/5): Would definitely recommend. - Very quiet and comfortable. No hassles checking or out. Beautiful old building. It isn’t the property’s fault but be careful when booking through a third party because it will say private bath but not all rooms have a private bath. I called ahead and made sure we did.

- 377alisont (2/5): Do not book. NO Amenities - While the room was lovely, it was sparse. The people were not there to check us in. We got a door code by text and our room key was in the room door. There were NO amenities in the room. We had to search out a couple of cups for water from where they had a coffee and tea service. The history of the location is cool and you think you are staying in a historic inn you really weren’t. Pay a little more and stay in the Fairfield Inn, that is what we will do the next time in Cumberland.

- Susan (10/5): Nicely restored historic property. - Center of historic Cumberland. Walkable area. Very large guest property. Parking in rear of property. Exterior common as well as en suite bathrooms throughout. Room and bed were comfortable. We arrived later in evening and used the convenient door lock system. We gratefully enjoyed coffee from the common area. Lovely property that welcomes cyclists. Seems there are a number of bike routes and trails throughout the area. The downtown pedestrian mall was enjoyable for a coffee shop breakfast and stroll. There was nothing distasteful in regards to the accommodations. I am thankful our room was assigned to the first floor as opposed to having to climb one or possibly two flights. The windows and wood work in room weren't clean. A small issue. It was dark when we arrived and we missed the signage at the front.

- Cynthia (6/5): Pleasant - It was a very cool place that has a ton of potential. The problem is that it needs a major upgrade. Almost everything needs to be replaced. The carpet going up the stairs was very dirty. The bed was comfortable and clean. Towels and linens were clean The place in general was clean. I was grateful for the 15 foot ceilings because the dust on the ceiling fan blades was about an inch thick. The manager was very friendly and helpful. It wasn’t a lot of money so I guess you get what you pay for. It’s sad to me because it could be very beautiful. I don’t know who owns it, but it could be a beautiful place to stay with just some tlc

- Sheila (8/5): Did Washington stay here? - I'm not sure if Washington stayed here but he definitely was nearby. 18th century building certainly has the post colonial vibe. Tall ceilings, old staircase, lots of woodwork. The inn seems to be in varying degrees of remodel. I was intrigued by the "spa" part of "inn and spa" so I booked a room then was informed that the spa in the basement had flooded so no spa treatments. I love old historic hotels and inns but this one could use a bit more updating. I had room #1, the first room on the left of the front door. I liked the textured wall paper and big bed though one side definitely was a bit sunken. There was an attempt at an updated bathroom but it's now worn and dated. Bathroom cleanliness was not great. But the price was right and check in was clear and easy. There was a good coffee shop a few doors down. With the right remodeling, this place could be a real gem.

- Cuva (4/5): Lesson learned about finding a deal. - we got there early and called due the door being locked. We left a message and then we sent a text. We never got an answer. What I didn't know was that the desk had texted me much earlier stating that the room was ready and gave me the codes to the front and back doors. It was several hours from our arrival that the msg came through but we were driving and didn't know the text arrived. So we waited in town for an answer to our text and phone msg but did not receive and answer. So we decided to find another hotel and drove to the next city to stay at a Marriott owned hotel for a similar rate. I guess I have to forfeit my money there. The parking was bad and the hotel was in an area that made us nervous. poor communication. parking area and location

- Verified traveler (6/5): Location good for downtown - Not the best experience. No one was on site for help with heat/ac or anything needed. We could text the person who texted us the code to get in. The persons number on the guest sheet in the room was the same person who texted although the numbers are different. Noise from the street outside was loud as we were on the front of the house. May have been better if on backside.
- Burton (2/5): Just about the worst hotel room ever. - Location. Cool old building. 36 steps up to our room. Bathroom not in room -down a long hallway. Bed was a boat…we attempted to sleep on a 10 degree slope…plus broken springs that made a loud snap whenever we moved. So… no sleep. Virtually no amenities in the room or bathroom. Not even plastic cups. Had to plunge the toilet which was extremely loosely anchored. No wi-fi provided, and very poor cell reception- essentially no internet. No breakfast. On top of all this the room was moderately expensive.
- Larry (1/5): A LONG NIGHT IN CUMBERLAND - The location to downtown Cumberland is excellent everything after that was totally unsatisfactory. The 1st thing was our room was on the 3rd floor up a bunch of steps. Then once reaching our room it was totally not what we expected. A 2 bedroom with bath should not be that your bathroom is down the hall about 50 yards pass all the other rooms on that floor. The outside noise was highly disturbing from people on Greene Street going by all night making noise. The bed was very uncomfortable. So adding this all up, we left there in the middle of the night highly pissed off. I was told that my money would be refunded, I certainly hope so.

Regretted booking this Inn.

Part of me wonders if it was because we booked through this site as we saw no one else there. The floor was very squeaky with a nailhead sticking out where my husband stepped out of bed. Curiously there were no tissues, or glasses for water to brush teeth. There is no staff on site, although a number is available to call. It was very clean and quiet, in a residential neighborhood. Coffee is available in the lobby.
- Julie (2/5): - I’m not sure where to begin with this review. I was expecting an older inn in a small town with lots of character. What we got was anything but, and we were extremely disappointed. The description of the inn is so misleading. Nowhere does it say that the bathrooms are separate from the actual rooms. I’ve stayed at bed and breakfast inns before and this is always clearly stated. This was not marketed as a b&b or anything similar, so after a long car ride to Cumberland, it was completely unexpected. It is marketed as an inn and spa, however no information was ever given about where the spa is located, how to get any of the services, and if it was even available. There was no free water in the rooms as stated. And thank goodness we are able to navigate stairs. No one with a disability or a hard time with stairs could stay here with the several flights you might have to take. The thermostat in the inn was set at 66 degrees and was absolutely freezing. The thermostat is located outside the rooms, so I guess affects all the guest rooms. I actually turned it up once because I was so cold, but it ended back at 66. This made it even more uncomfortable to have to walk down the hall to where the restroom was. The plumbing was terrible and we were always afraid to use the toilet. No water pressure and shower was lukewarm. No hand towels were provided, the hand soap container was empty, and there were no tissues. All of these things together truly led to a very unpleasant experience.
- Eric (6/5): Pleasant - Location was excellent - walking distance to old downtown Cumberland and scenic train. Quick drives to grocery stores, and a great pizza place (Puccini's). Good parking availability in back of the inn, easy to access the location to/from the freeway. Room was ok, bathroom was small but serviceable. No breakfast. Never met the staff - received an email on how to get in, and how to check out. That was sum of contact. Carpets were not very clean, probably should be replaced. No ice machine; there was a freezer in a "break room", and we filled a couple of ice trays with water to have ice. I suppose anyone that came in looking for the same thing could have taken the cubes if they had gotten there first.
