There are no sidewalks, and you have to walk along a busy road to get to your room. I like walking, but in this case, it would be helpful if the hotel had a golf cart to take guests to their room.

Josephine (10/5): Beautiful property, well located, friendly and welcoming staff. Delicious Japanese breakfast highlighting Sawara ferment - Lovely architecture, interior and steps away from the old town. Kids enjoyed the onsen bath and the comfy beds prepared for them.

Zoxia (10/5): Wonderfull hotel not too far from Narita - The hotel is composed by various buildings located in different places of the city. Check in is done at reception where all information is provided. Parking easily available. Accomodation was so charming, with all what we could need, minibar fully stocked and design. Very quiete night at Shippou along the river and away from the road. Even in winter, no cold in the room to sleep nicely. Staff are doing their best to help and have a good stay. Restaurant LE UN, where breakfast is served as well, is Top Class and food delicious. City is really charming and worth discovery thanks to the map provided by the Hotel and local shops easily found (coffee, souvenirs, sake, soy sauce, etc) Nothing

Sharon (9/5): NIPPONIA has been a favorite stay and will continue to be so. It is modern and luxurious. - The hotel room was clean, newly renovated and very modern. The staff was wonderful. Our room was situated right next to the canal and part of the famous Inoh Tadatake museum. Very convenient to the old town of Sawara , which is what I wanted to visit. My only concern was that the reception and dining area is in a separate building from ours and there was no transport to and from. Our room was about a quarter mile or a little less from the main building that housed reception and restaurant. The good thing is, we are old but able to walk. We left our baggage, walked around town, came back to claim our luggage and walked back to find our hotel room. Then for dinner, we had to walk back to the main building and after dinner, walk back to our room. Night gets dark early so walking along the side of a road with cars can be quite hazardous. The following day, we were able to find another route to and from so that made it a little easier.

Wish it had been longer. - The accommodations were excellent - very comfortable, great layout, nice amenities Could have been given more assistance with restaurants in the area. We asked and were told there were plenty of options. It took us some effort to find something open.

Mel (9/5): Comfortable modern traditional stay - Lovely place to stay in historic Sawara near the canal. Beautifully styled, spacious room (Yata) with seating area and desk. Generous complimentary soft drinks, wine and beer. Well airconditioned. Parking right outside the door. Beautiful breakfast served in the main Kagura building. Welcoming and helpful staff. The room has no outlook. Although there was a private courtyard garden you can’t see it from inside because the door glass is frosted which is I pity. The pillow is also a hard Japanese style one so bring your own if you like a softer pillow.

Laura (10/5): If you are looking for an authentic experience in Japan away from the crowds then this is it - If there were a rating higher than 10 this place should have it. I was expecting very rustic but from the moment we arrived at the gorgeous reception it had the feeling of a 5 star hotel and our “room” which covered two floors was everything we hoped for-Authentic with a modern comfort. All drinks were complimentary and we even had gift bags on the bed. The breakfast was an outstanding Japanese style where all dietary restrictions were met. This was definitely a splurge for us but worth and the perfect final night in Japan before flying out of Narita. Nothing

Ngan (6/5): Great place for one night and only for summer time - Clean rooms and comfortable beds. Very Japanese styled rooms and designs. Located in old town Narita. Very good breakfast. If you want to experience Japanese culture this is the hotel to stay. We had hard time to find the main reception. Rooms are located all over the main old town road… In summer time maybe it’s better but winter time its a disaster. Can’t ask anyone for direction because nobody speaks English. I don’t recommend this place for winter because everything around is closed and rooms get very cold at night.

Aggie (10/5): Lovely stay - This traditional merchant house converted hotel is lovely. We own the entire building with two floors. One tiny living room on the ground floor, a bath house, a separate toilet near the entrance, along with a spacious bathroom with the second living room on the second floor. It’s airy and full of scent of wood. However, the bedroom is facing the road without sound proof windows, it was very noisy throughout the night.

Jun (10/5): Superb experience, excellent for travellers who could drive directly to hotel - Excellent hotel for travellers who wish to immerse into the history of Sawara. Staffs are exceptional. The eat local dinning experience is superb. Honestly there’s nothing I don’t like here.
Sungcheol (8/5): Unusual stay in a warehouse. - Not a common experience! Noisy due to too traffics located to the street. My room was too apart from the reception and the kind staff carried our big heavy luggages all the way without carrage car. We were concerned about our luggage wheels.
Nick (10/5): It was a fun place to spend our last night as its a short taxi ride from the airport, not much to do here so I we o u of - Great converted old buildings, some of which are in great locations. We were overlooking the canal with all the merchant houses. Large Japanese style breakfast with many courses, free fully stocked mini bar. Late check out. It’s expensive.

Verified traveler (10/5): A time machine - What an incredible place: it's where restoration meets renovation! We were upgraded to 404, which was a HUGE old warehouse that contains modern necessities. The smell of the wood, especially in the bath, is very pleasant. This place has no TV and no clock -- 100% unplugged. In addition, the service was excellent.

Verified traveler (10/5): 街に住むような体験ができました。 - 友人と302の部屋に泊まりました。古い酒蔵を改修した部屋でしたが、天井がひろく、インテリアもこだわりが感じられ、ゆっくりとした時間を楽しむことができました。 3人で泊まり、一人はエクストラベットだったのですが、畳があったので布団で寝る選択肢もあるとより良かったかなと思います。檜風呂、フロントでの丁寧な対応、街に溶け込むように存在する建物、静かな夜、古い街並み、美味しい食事、落ち着いた朝食。どの場面の思い出も心に残る、素敵な旅になりました。友人との賑やかな旅行にも、両親との親孝行にも、恋人とのデートにも、家族の思い出にも、一人でのんびりするのにも、どんなシーンにもおすすめです。
Verified traveler (10/5): 昔を感じる - seigaku棟301号室に宿泊しました。昔の質屋の蔵を改装した部屋で、趣のある内装に、綺麗なベッドと照明でとてもお洒落でした。お風呂は桧風呂でとてもゆったりできましたし、アメニティのシャンプーなどの香りが良かったです。全体的にとても満足ですが、玄関の鍵の明け閉めしにくかったのと、玄関の扉が防犯上心許ない感じで、当日は強風だったこともあって、夜気になってなかなか寝付けなかったです。入口に外門があるので閉められれば安心感は大分違ったと思います。

団塊の世代の女子会 (8/5): - リノベーションされた古民家、寒い冬ということで、覚悟はしておりましたが、年齢的な事、今の便利で贅沢な暮らしに慣らされてしまっていた自分に改めて気づかされました。古民家を楽しむには季節を選ぶべきだったねと友人と反省。でもスタッフの方達の行き届いたサービスや気遣いは心を温かくしてして頂きました。有り難うございました。機会が有りましたらまたお世話になりたいと思います。

Spence (10/5): Amazing experience in Sawara - The property is really unlike any other place i have stayed - a beautiful set of three 100-150 year old buildings, which have been converted into luxury accomodation. You really feel like you are just staying in a traditional house in the village... except maybe the decor is more modern and contemporary. The rooms are very large (think of a one bedroom house) and our room had a beautiful garden and seating area for morning coffee. The bathroom is also a real treat - a lovely cedar bath to soak in, as well as really nice amenities to use. Make sure you have breakfast here also, as the restaurant food is well above the ordinary breakfast served in Japan... lovely presentation, and delicious also. The staff, especially Satoru, are really helpful and certainly go the extra distance to ensure everything you want is provided. He went well beyond what I consider the requirements for a front desk person, helping us to book a rental car, and even confirming our lodgings at the next place we stayed - a really considerate guy, who understands what a difference great service can make for a traveller. An amazing experience, and i can't wait to go back again sometime.
