Guest Reviews
- Johannes (4/5): Nice location, very poor wifi, the constant influx of brides having their photo taken gets annoying - Location is good, even though traffic in front of the door never seems to end. It's an old, very old building both outside and in. Room sizes are ok, but everything is very dated, dusty and carpetted up. Wifi quality is hardly worth mentioning, very slow and unstable. The entire weekend (from saturday morning until sunday evening) the hotel is filled with couples that are getting married are having their photo sessions everywhere in the hotel, so you're literally in the way of somebody all the time. Nice to see for half an hour, annoying if you're falling over brides and grooms in the hallways, stairs and lobby.
- Chrisitan (8/5): Top - Lage Frühstück speziell Kaffee
- Bart William (10/5): - The old antique style was great

- Jonas (8/5): I love the charm of this historical hotel. Already my secpnd time here. The rooftop bar is amazing -
- Friederike (6/5): - Nice but aged, very friendly staff, room was a little bit dirty
- Luis (10/5): - Very nice hotel , you can stay confortable , and location is the best of all. Take 35 minutos from İstanbul AirPort and around 40 us$ all depend the tráfic, you can go from hotel to Sofia church in 15 minutos around 8 dólares , and the blue mezquita and the bazar oll are around ❤️🙏
- Stuart (7/5): It was a good stay for four days based on locatikn - but the property is dated especially with the beds and bathrooms - It’s a great location - staff are very friendly - nice rooftop bar Ned’s were rather old and not quite so comfortable- bathrooms were tiny and very inconveniet as the showers were so small
- Sonja (8/5): Very good -
Tavsiye etmem
- müge (10/5): Atmosfer - Tarihi atmosferi yaşayabileceğiniz nadir yerlerden biri. Balkonlu olan odayı tercih ettik 2.katta yer alan odanın balkonunda binaya ait ikonik iki kadın taş oyması sutünu yakından görme şansımız oldu. Manzara ve ferahlık açısından da çok güzeldi. Çalışanlar nazik ve çok canayakın.
- Jakub (10/5): Excellent experience - I like the atmosphere of this original hotel. You can just chill out in the lobby.
- Rowena (8/5): I love this hotel - a window into old Istanbul - Location, service and ambience all fantastic. Breakfast could be better eg. rolls as well as bread; better quality orange juice
Lovely room, but missing a bedside light
- Ali emre (4/5): - Oda temizlenmemis, camlar hiç silinmemis (manzaraya yazık), TV cekmiyor
- Susette (1/5): A step back in time that’s not worth the trouble - Stepping into the hotel felt like stepping back in time. The decor was well chosen. I liked the old time feel. It is not well maintained or cleaned. My bed was sloped instead of flat, the carpet was filthy, and the wallpaper was peeling in very obvious places. I didn’t feel good about sleeping here.
- Khot (4/5): Disappointing -
- Jeremy (10/5): A great success. We all loved the hotel and staff and thought it very good value for money. - The breakfast was very good. Excellent coffee. Open for long hours (07.00-10.30). The staff were brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble. Very good cleaning staff, excellent, friendly and helpful management. The style of the hotel (1892) was great and all the staff pulled together. The location is superb, right in the centre near many excellent, reasonably priced eateries. The staff would always get taxis for you when required. Great that there were no tour groups in this hotel! All individual travellers. The ubiquitous red carpet and some of the wall paper in the bedrooms needs replacing! Pity the roof bar and terrace was not open (because it was winter)
- Özgür (10/5): Exceptional -
- MEHMET (2/5): - Tam bir Hayal kırıklığı!
Kırık muskuklar,kırık aplikler..
Duş jeli yok ve şampuan ıslak mendil şeklinde ve içi boş!
- Aytekin (10/5): - Tek kelime ile mükemmel
- Kitty (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kitty (10/5): Exceptional -
- domenico "chicco" (8/5): - Good service
- MUZAFFER KAAN (10/5): Seviyorum. - Buram buram tarih kokuyor. Gerçekten ruhu olan bir otel. İstanbul'daki favorim.
Fatih Akın'a selam olsun.
- Aigerim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Murat (10/5): - Otelin atmosferi zaten benzersiz.
- Rowena (8/5): A happy reminder of old Istanbul - Staff are always friendly and welcoming.
Location is fab.
I love the historic atmosphere. Breakfast is a bit limited. Fresh orange juice would be good.
- Brendan (7/5): A good hotel in an excellent location with excellent staff. - Excellent rooftop bar and service. Shower was small, I could barely fit inside it.
- Umit (3/5): Poor - Good location!! I booked a double room it was so small and smelly, shower was extremely small, I couldn’t get in, I changed the room they charged me extra 60 euros ..
- Mustafa (6/5): - Çok fazla beklentimiz yoktu açıkçası, özellikle konumundan dolayı tercih ettik. Kahvaltı vasat, tabağımızda özellikle 2 tane böcek gördügümüz için kahvaltıyı yarıda bırakıp çıkış yaptık.
- PUMBRIDGE (8/5): An ideal rooftop bar to sip martinis and watch the sun set - I love this place - the quirkiest hotel in Istanbul; huge rooms, daft decor, friendly staff and an excellent rooftop bar on two levels.
On this visit we were staying elsewhere, but we made sure to visit the roof bar.
As the sun sets, it's magical. The lights start flickering on, the sky turns into a rich mix of reds, oranges and blues, and the cocktails just slip down.
- Sven (9/5): Superb -
- Jeremy (9/5): An exceptional adventure in the aesthetics of hospitality in the past. - Büyük Londra Oteli (Grand Hotel des Londres) is a truly remarkable place. It has no equal--you will understand immediately upon entering the foyer, and witnessing the exceptional decor, a collection of baroque early 20th Century relics. It's not so much a hotel as an experience, and if this experience is one you might enjoy, you will not be disappointed. The internet connection! Unfortunately, this is the one area in which Londra is a bit lacking.
- Bosman (7/5): Good -
- Narmada (8/5): Hotel is very nice with very good interiors and the common area on the ground floor is very good for taking pictures wit - Interiors and terrace bar with an outstanding view Kitchen area was disgusting, not well maintained , breakfast not good
- Brendan (8/5): Quality - Everything was very good! N/A
- Javier (6/5): - Very noisy at night due to the cars that jammed the street in front of the hotel
- Tina (10/5): I like the place so much - I was super happy with this hotel and staff. they were super nice I didnt have wifi in my room. we booked a suit room but no wifi there
(4/5): Good for a short stay. Especially for those who appreciate authenticity - Excellent location. Old historic building with traces of history in the interior of the hotel. Beautiful lobby and staircases Tiny rooms with very claustrophobic bathroom, especially the shower stall. Old noisy air conditioner. Poor breakfast. General state of dilapidation and musty rooms.
- Livia (7/5): Good - This was my third stay in this hotel, which I like because it is really, really charming, while not being too expensive. It is very conveniently situated, near Istiklal caddesi and public transportation.
We booked a standard room, but upon arrival they upgraded it to a room with balcony, which - compared to the standard one - had air conditioning, a slightly larger bathroom, and a lovely view of the Golden Horn. I hope this hotel never changes its charming, Orient-express-like atmosphere, although some minor upgrades would be appreciated (bathroom is a bit outdated and some items such as the shower door should be fixed, old mattresses could be replaced, and furniture dusted once in a while, etc.). Wifi was also not working properly.
- Thomas (8/5): Very good -
- Hülya (5/5): Passable -
- Hülya (5/5): Passable -
- Alison (10/5): Exceptional - The roof terrace is amazing. The staff were very helpful and friendly and everything was really clean. Great location!
- Faruk (10/5): Excellent -
- Marcelle (5/5): Passable -
- Mohamad (8/5): Very good -
- Danbi (7/5): Best experience for location and heritage. Don't expect fancy modern luxuries. - Very authentic heritage. Outstanding architecture. Very kind professional staff. Spectacular rooftop bar looking over the sea and Asian side of Istanbul. Through the alley directly to the Istiklal Caddesi, 2 mins. Down the road to the crazy drink scenes, 5 mins. Galata Tower, 10 mins. Surrounded by British, Italian, Croatian consulates. Good breakfast. Nothing fancy but everything you need for your day. Exact opposite of the pros. Very bad Wi-Fi in your room. Can drain your data. Very bad TV reception, and I am talking about old school 90s bad TV. But the EURO games are on everywhere so just roam around and soak in the atmosphere with some Efes beer. The bathroom is historic, very old. Very thin windows so you will hear the commotion from the streets.
- Anand (9/5): BEST LOCATION, antique interiors, great value - Best location, Amazing interiors, great value It's an old building, wifi doesn't reach the rooms and the walls aren't soundproof so it gets noisy if your room is facing the street
- Oltrane (10/5): It feels like a privilege to stay in this hotel - nothing like it in the whole world - Surely the most iconic hotel in Istanbul. Walk in and it’s time travel to a different world of how travel once was. It’s beautiful, antique, unique, has starred in many films, eg Edge of Heaven, and it’s not even expensive. Loved it.
- Branko (10/5): A cinematic experience. - I was brought to this hotel by the films of Fatih Akin. And it completely met my expectations. I would highlight the terrace with a view of the Bosphorus Strait, making it unnecessary to wander the surrounding streets in search of cafes. There is also friendly staff and the hotel owner, a charming man with above-average knowledge of English for Turkish standards.
It's true that the hotel doesn't have everything to meet the maximalist expectations of today's tourists, but it has that elusive and inexplicable something that affects us subconsciously, like our favorite movies that we watch for the hundredth time.
P.S. Don't be spoiled when it comes to breakfast. There is plenty of what is offered, enough to set off with a full stomach to explore this complex and magical city.
- Konstantin (6/5): Pleasant - Very friendly and helpful people working there and a good location No air conditioning as was promised, the place is pretty used up
- Ferhat Bilgin (10/5): - Nostaljik ve en güzel servis. Manzara ve Hersey harikaydi.
Tesekkurler
Emine
- Tomislav (8/5): Very good -
- Sarah (9/5): Perfect hotel for a perfect stay in Istanbul - Loved the uniqueness of this hotel.
Great location.
Very helpful and friendly staff.
Felt like I was on a film set Poor wifi reception in the room.
Bath and shower could have been updated
- Elena (10/5): Exceptional - the atmosphere of this Ala Franca hotel
- Faruk (10/5): Excellent - It is perfect location and the best staff ever .
The best hotel in Istanbul
- Dietmar (10/5): - It was a very nice stay in a very special place
- Katrinanei (9/5): Superb - To live in this hotel is like live in a movie. In Wes Anderson movies.
- Rajni (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful hotel and the kindest staff. My very favorite hotel of all time. We will always return to Londres when we are in the city! Nothing bad, the rooms are beautiful and wonderful place. The rooftop bar is very nice in the summer!
- Ela (9/5): Superb -
- Hye (6/5): Pleasant - Great location and very kind staff Too weak wifi that you can not really use well in your hotel room. Too weak mini fridge and no cups or hot water pot as usual in other hotel. A bit noisy outside during mid night since pubs are near. Toilet was too old and small.
- Latif (8/5): Nice place to stay location difficult to beat - If you like ottoman style furniture and rooms this is for you, the staff are very helpful and friendly WiFi could be better breakfast too.
- Maija (10/5): Amazing beautiful historic hotel -
- Boyka (5/5): Passable - Very poor breakfast. There are no glasses in the room, no drinking water.
Warm water is very cool to bathe.
- Kate (10/5): Amazing hotel - I’m in love with this Hotel, it’s very special.
Amazing location, you can do everything by walking.
The staff are so friendly, polite and kind.
It’s my second time in this hotel and for sure not my last.
What’s amazing about this hotel is the design and I hope it will stay like this.
- Yudhishthir (8/5): A very special place in an ideal location. An important part of Istanbul's architectural heritage. - Ahmed was a very friendly and helpful receptionist. I greatly enjoyed the hotel's "retro" atmosphere and furnishings; a trip back in time. Breakfast fare could have been much better.
- Maurizio (3/5): Poor - Location All the rest
- Sarah (8/5): Very good - The rooftop bar had a beautiful view Wifi in bedrooms was poor. Breakfast was not great - we asked for omelettes instead which were ok.
- Carol (4/5): I stayed before there it was much better -
- Farid (6/5): - Bathrooms need to be upgraded
- Nicola (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elena (9/5): Superb -
- Olivia (6/5): Pleasant -
- Albrecht (10/5): Charismatic and central hotel representing old Istanbul with all the quirks & super friendly staff! - This place is perfekt for the exploring traveler : super nice staff, art deco interior of the good old days and everything was clean. Yes the breakfast is typically Turkish and better than expected ( ask for the Omelett) , the shower needs sometimes a little more time, but what you get is a central Location with lovely rooms and dedicated staff! We had friends paying double the price with less comfort in other places, so you do get a great charismatic place with everything a City explorer needs, execpt maybe for a safe that we did not felt needing to use.
- Brendan (9/5): Superb -
- Margaret (10/5): Exceptional -
- Avsar (8/5): Very good - the smell of history in and around of the hotel. it is a bit unattended. rooms are not really clean, breakfast is meh.
- Frisch (8/5): Very good -
- Christian (8/5): Very good - Excellent hotel in a good location. Friendly staff were very helpful and overall we would return without a second thought!
- 318cema (2/5): Small praise for the staff at Grand Hotel de Londres! - As a longtime Istanbul resident, I was most disappointed when I visited the terrace for a drink with three out of town visitors. We arrived around 11.30p.m. were completely ignored for 5 mins (there were three other people in the bar). Eventually, when I went to the waiter to order, he told me that they were closed. I asked what was closing time….it was 30 mins. later. I said that my friends had come a long way, that we would have a drink and leave before their closing time. The response was rude and there was a strong reluctance to serve. I prevailed and we were served with a COLD reluctance.
This was not my first time having similar experiences at the hotel but until now. On another occasion while there to celebrate a friend’s birthday, we asked for a menu to be told that they don’t have a physical menu, so we asked them to just tell us a few of the options. They refused to list them and said we could read their Qcode if we wanted to find out. There have also been other similar episodes but it is a location that I like and want to like, so I have overlooked them. However, they need to change their staff if they want to gain a loyal customer base. On the way out, I explained the experience to a person who claimed to be the manager. He was completely unsympathetic and, like his pathetic waiters, just didn’t want to bother.
- mariamH8038YV (2/5): Disappointing! - I went to the roof top bar of the hotel with three friends. We arrived at 23.40 and waited for about 5 minutes before calling a waiter. He told us that they were closed. We asked about time they closed and we were told midnight. A friend pointed out that it wasn’t 12 yet. The waiter then brought us our drinks. The manner and approach of staff was so lacking in hospitality and professionalism- so unlike my usual experience in Istanbul. Luckily , our visiting friends had a wonderful week in Istanbul but this was a disappointing last night.
- Princess (3/5): Poor -
- Mikolaj (9/5): Zeitreise - Verfallener Charme der Belle Epoque, free room upgrade Really bad breakfast
- Dan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sylvia (8/5): A place like no other -- in the heart of Pera -- like an elderly society lady with stories to tell - The location and value are unbeatable. As a history buff, I love the building and the area, despite the fact that the glory is somewhat faded. This Pera neighborhood was where Europeans, like Agatha Christie stayed, and there is a lingering romance to the old buildings. This hotel was also featured in the movie Crossing the Bridge: Sounds of Istanbul. The ceilings are high, the terrace bar is absolutely fantastic, and the staff is wonderful. The breakfast is at the minimum standard for Turkish hotels. My room had no air conditioning, which meant I kept the windows open at night -- the downside is that it is a very noisy area at all hours.
