What a stunning, modern property this is — bright, artfully designed, and buzzing with the kind of polished energy you rarely find outside of major metropolitan cities. Des Moines is lucky to have it, and I am already counting the days until my next visit. Location — Simply Unbeatable The hotel's position in downtown Des Moines is absolutely perfect. Being part of the Des Moines Skywalk system and connected directly to the Iowa Events Center is a game-changer, especially during Iowa winters when the last thing you want to do is bundle up just to get to your event. Wells Fargo Arena is just a four-minute walk away, and the Iowa State Capitol Building is only 1.4 miles out — meaning you're never more than a few minutes from wherever you need to be. Whether you're in town for a convention, a concert, or just exploring Des Moines, this location truly cannot be beat. The al fresco eating area complete with a fireplace on the outdoor deck creates one of the most relaxing dining atmospheres I've ever experienced at a hotel. Becky (4/5): We won't stay there again. - The room was clean. We ordered room service and the food was great, but it was expensive! The pool was a joke. It's too small for a hotel that size. There was too many people in it. It was so loud you couldn't hear the person beside you to have a conversation. There were people swimming in sweatpants! There were no towels and no where to sit. There were people drinking and having a pizza party in a space that was already full with people and kids that wanted to swim. There was no hot tub. There's no free continental breakfast. The breakfast buffet, which wasn't great, was $30! Who wants to pay $120 for a family of 4 to eat breakfast?! We won't be staying there again.

Had to errors on my bill, hotel will only refund one. Usually Hilton bends over backwards to correct problems but not this hotel. Won’t be staying here again.

739shelbyd (4/5): Thin walls, loud TV’s, spineless security - Walls are very thin, they no longer offer valet parking. I had a noise complaint from the room next door two nights in a row. I complained twice and their hotel “security” wouldn’t even knock on that rooms door and address the issue. I guess if you want something done you have to handle it yourself.

The amount of food in the restaurant for the money was not where it could have been. On top of that the pasta I had ordered had no protein on it. The $30 a night stay to park my vehicle is a bit excessive, and the grab and go might have been the worst price wise that I have seen.

Housekeeping did a fantastic job cleaning the room for a multinight stay. I called to add an extra night, and the staff was polite and accommodating. It was nice to have a bar and restaurant as part of the hotel. Some of the outlets were loose, which wouldn't charge my phone. It was not a major deal, but for the price of the room, it's something that should be fixed. We parked outside, and the hotel charges $30 a day. That seems like something that should be included, but if parking underground, that would be worth the price. No breakfast included but able to go to connected restaurant.

Located at 436 Park Street, this three-star hotel is part of the Des Moines Skywalk System and is connected to the Iowa Events Center. How close can you get? Me? I was just looking for a good night's sleep before embarking on the last leg of my journey to Chicago. Hilton Des Moines Downtown has every amenitie you can imagine, including breakfast, fitness center, on-site restaurant, bar/lounge, indoor swimming pool, al fresco eating area, room service, free wi-fi, EV charging, private parking, free high speed internet access, airport shuttle and patio. I booked a King Room with a king-sized bed, refrigerator, 50-inch flat screen TV, workspace, in-room safe, coffee/tea maker, air conditioning and wi-fi access. And, yes, I got a very good night's sleep.
Climber17227932345 (8/5): Excellent value for money. - I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The rooms are modern and smart, plenty of storage and a decent sized telly. The beds are super comfortable and the shower was spacious and beautifully warm. The shuttle bus service is absolutely top drawer and I cannot praise the hotel enough for this, a major selling point and one that other hotels would be wise to consider. Breakfast was ok, nothing to write home about but not bad either, the service team was friendly and knowledgeable. The hotel itself is pretty close to a five star rating from myself, it missed out from me due to the outrageously priced convenience section, 3 bottles of drink (2 of which was water) for over 20 bucks is unacceptable to me, I know I didn’t have to pay it but as a person based outside of the country and also late at night I didn’t know of any other options at the time! However, with that said I would 100% stay here again, no doubt at all. Thanks for a very comfortable stay Hilton Des Moines!

Thomas (3/5): Gute Lage - schlechte Reinigung - Eine sehr gute Lage und eine tolle Bar. Wir hatten eine Skyview-Suite und das Zimmer war schmutzig. Wir haben uns zwischenzeitlich bei der Rezeption gemeldet und es wurden auch nur Stellen nochmal gereinigt, die stark verschmutzt waren. Beispielsweise lagen Glasscherben unter dem TV-Tisch - diese wurden entfernt, aber der Boden nicht nochmal gereinigt. Als wir bei der Rezeption die Kritik geäußert haben, dass unser Baby beim krabbeln auf dem Boden schwarze Hände und Knie bekommt, gab es keine überraschte Reaktion. Schade, dass die Reinigung und der Service nicht dem Standard entspricht, den wir bei Hotels der Hilton-Gruppe kennen.

Yekaterina (6/5): customer service needs improvement - I stayed at the Hilton for business this past weekend. The location is excellent, the rooms are comfortable, and the food was good. However, the customer service could use improvement. There was an issue during my stay—something that was a mistake rather than intentional—and it was resolved. The manager personally came over, apologized, and offered our company four drink coupons for the bar, which I appreciated. On Sunday morning, Starbucks inside the hotel was closed earlier than expected, so we asked the bar attendant if we could use the coupons for two non-alcoholic cocktails. To our surprise, we were told that the coupons were valid only for alcoholic beverages or coffee. I explained that we simply wanted the same cocktails, just without alcohol, which would actually cost the hotel less. Still, the answer remained no, and we were told, “You can come back tomorrow when Starbucks is open.” Since we were checking out that day, that wasn’t an option. In the end, we returned the four coupons with our best wishes. I share this not because of the initial mistake—which can happen anywhere and was handled well—but because the bar experience reflected a lack of customer service and flexibility. A simple solution could have turned the situation into a positive one, but instead it left a disappointing impression.

Whoever does the food service has no clue as to what a good snack or healthy and wholesome meals mean. For example, the lunch packs are cheese, eggs, melon and crackers. I mean what is that and who eats that? At the restaurant, there’s no option to take buffet items in a plate to your room, you have to order to-go. That must change. The parking situation is limited with the underground parking small and a small outdoor parking. This hotel needs to put some effort into their service. That is NOT what you expect from a Hilton in a major city in America.

We arrived on Friday and we were able to park in the lot next to the hotel. It was only about half full and the spaces were large enough. The only difficulty was figuring out what to enter and where to enter it when we entered the lot the first time. Place the room key card against the flat pad. Don't try to put it in the slot like we did the first time. Of course, it would have been better if parking was not an additional $30 per day.

We did not realize this and it was tight for our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids ages 14 and 9). Kids ended up sleeping on the pullout couch. The layout was typical of any Embassy. It was very humid/musty in the room and did not get super cool. The layout was good as expected. Breakfast was ok, I have seen it better at other Embassy suites, but the staff working it were sooo nice! We had all that we needed for our stay. The pool was fine and clean. It got super busy and very loud so our kids were not able to use it much. We did use the shuttle to go to the ballgame and while it was a little slow, the driver was nice. We ended up walking back. Overall it was a fine hotel. I thought the pricing was a bit steep for what we got, but the location probably inflated that.
Firemanofd (2/5): Worst experience I have had in all my travels. Not recommend. - If I could give less than 1 star I would. I will never stay at this hotel again. I am a 58 year old baseball coach staying there for a tournament in Des Moines. I will be spreading the word in Omaha around the baseball and softball organizations about the absolutely horrible experience we had. The two men that were working that night, one being the night manage, were less than welcoming and be honest could have handled the situation much differently. We were having a drink that we brought with us at the only place available to do it, on the patio. It was all adults just talking, trying to relax. We were told to take our drinks to our room. While all day long a very large wedding was carrying around opened busch light bottles I saw them take out of a cooler they brought. I guess the more you spend the more the rules change. Unacceptable. I will be using this review on every social media site I can find on your location. This past week end, we played in a tournament in Kansas City. We did the same thing we attempted at your location and not 1 word was said to us. We enjoyed ourselves and able to relax. They will be getting a outstanding rating unlike you. If you ask me I would recommend finding some friendly and fair employees to help your guest enjoy their stay.

Sarena (8/5): - It was a really nice hotel, was a little bustling with events going on and staff was friendly. Everything was well and seemingly clean other then a pizza box was left in our mini fridge. We threw it out ourselves. We didn't bother making a fuss or caring much cause we didn't stay in the room other then to sleep and to get ready, but would probably stay again because of the skywalk convenience and nice atmosphere walking through.
Heather (10/5): - The best characteristic of this hotel is the staff, who are so friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The breakfast is great. The rooms are comfortable with good closets and very nice mattresses and pillows. A very special thanks to Darcy and Kathy who welcomed me every morning to breakfast. Their kind and cheerful demeanor really helped to start my day well.

Gabby (8/5): - The hotel is very nice, clean, and comfortable! The only hang-up we had was that it wasn’t very clear online that there wasn’t free parking. It wasn’t the end of the world, but still frustrating. Staff was very helpful in finding where we can park for a low cost.

Curiosity02429261392 (8/5): Hilton Downtown Des Moines – Great Stay, Tricky Parking - We really enjoyed our stay at the Hilton Downtown Des Moines. The hotel itself was excellent—very clean, well-maintained, and staffed with friendly, attentive service. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a modern and well-designed bathroom. The shower had great water pressure and plenty of hot water, though the showerhead could have used a cleaning as it appeared partially clogged. The hotel bar was a nice bonus—strong, well-made drinks and decent food made it a great spot to unwind. One of the best perks of this location is how walkable it is. You’re within easy walking distance of several great restaurants, bars, and shops, and it’s especially convenient if you’re in town for the Des Moines Farmers Market when it’s in season. The only real downside was the parking situation. While the hotel offers self-parking for $30/day, it’s a bit frustrating. The small surface lot holds about 20 cars, and the underground garage—while larger—is incredibly tight. The layout is awkward, with many spaces blocked by concrete pillars and a dead-end row that’s nearly impossible to back out of if the garage is full. Unless you’re driving a compact car, parking can be a real challenge. Overall, we’d definitely stay again for the quality and convenience—just be prepared for tight parking or consider alternate transportation options.
