Easy trip to and from the event, plus the bonus of the Chrome cafe being very handy for breakfast the next morning. While we had our private bathroom was a bit of a nuisance having to go out into the public area to access it, rather than a conventional en suite.

The laundry facilities were excellent, and Andrea returned from a local trip to help us resolve a starting issue with the tumble drier. This was very much appreciated. The kitchen was situated in another facility, so unable to access a drink or water during the night.

The facilities were great especially the kitchen. It was lovely to be able to walk about in the orchard, see the hens and the countryside. Great for families and groups.

Te Aroha P (10/5): Beautiful calm and quiet stay for our whanau. Warm comfy beds for us to rest after a big day - Warm dry and comfy room and met the needs for us just needing a place to rest, get cleaned up and head out the next day. The shared kitchen facility was also really nice After a long day the distance to drive out to the accommodation from the event we was at. A small lamp in room would be great for late nights - as didn’t want to use the main light.

Quiet rural property with vert pleasant and interesting garden surrounding it. Very small inconvenience that my shower/lavatory is not ensuite but immediately nearby in the lobby. I was happy with that. This is budget accommodation and not a motel.

Bigger sign or more visible sign from turn off from main road ,didn’t have GPS and drove straight up the road for a km or two passing it.

Bright (8/5): Bush Retreat - Andrea & Rupert welcomed us on arrival & showed us to our room, the room was separate to our toilet & shower, this would be better if access was off our room as my mum is in her eighties & wasn't comfortable leaving our room throughout the night. Beds could be a bit more comfortable. Very tranquil, peaceful location with only a close drive into town. Well equipped kitchen with recycling & compost bins in place, love that! I guess it was my mistake to assume we’d have the same accommodation as we enjoyed the last time we visited, but no, we were given the backpackers’ quarters, not the upstairs room. Lucky we were the only occupants as we are long past sharing. Felt it was a bit overpriced for a backpacker’s room.

Clean room and comfy bed, not en-suite but private bathroom for every room, hot shower with very good shower pressure, lovely common kitchen and lounge areas. Would have stayed longer had we could!

The owners were very welcoming and showed us everything. We even had some milk and freshly picked plums in our refrigerator. Nothing!

Hosts were lovely and helpful. Everything was clean and tidy nice space to stay in. Bed was a little hard for us is really the only thing.
Eugene (8/5): Basic clean comfortable good value - Comfortable bed. Good bed covers. Spacious bedroom and bathroom. Communal kitchen is very clean and well equipped. Quiet location but near Tauranga, Paeroa and Thames. One bathroom for each bedroom but accessible through lobby, not ensuite.
Ilse (10/5): A peaceful place to enjoy nature - We truly enjoyed our stay at the Purple Hen. The hosts were super kind and ready to help with any requests (they live at the property). The location was very handy (a 5 min drive to the supermarket and town) and the place was just divine, with lots of grass and nature (including many avocado trees!). The kitchen and living spaces (which are shared) were clean, and spacious and had everything you would need to cook. The hosts even provide a few basics (salt, oil, spices, tea, coffee, sugar, etc) and also throw in some fresh eggs in your own fridge (each room has a designated fridge/freezer and a cupboard to store groceries). The only negative (and just because I'm struggling to find negatives) is the lack of a bedside table in our room (4) and lack of a little shelf/table to put stuff in the toilet (i.e. no place to put toiletries as the sink is small). But again, that's just being picky, the place is great!
Taupou (10/5): Definitely a good place for group of friends or families travelling - I liked the hosts, they were exceptionally friendly, even though we checked in after 12 midnight the lady was still there and guided us to our rooms in the pouring rain. Plus we checked out a little late and they did not give us a hard time about. Loved it! Definitely recommend for groups of friends or big families travelling to Tauranga that likes peace and quiet. Nothing at all. All was good

Kenneth (8/5): - The owners were friendly. Its a nice walk around the property with Avocado Orchard and Bamboo trees. There's a walkway by the water the goes through the property. There are two large shared areas besides the sleeping rooms. The game room had a large TV with Disney and Netflix. They had a handicapp accessible ramp/ walkway up to the rooms. A cafe is on the corner close by that had a descent breakfast and baked goods.
Jos (10/5): - The Purple Hen is a gorgeous country house set in a cute little avocado orchard. Andrea and Rupert were warm and welcoming hosts who made us feel right at home. The upstairs apartment we had was clean and comfortable with our own kitchette, tv lounge, and 4-poster bed. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely consider staying again next time we are in this part of the country!

We only had one night here but this would be a wonderful place to take a few days to decompress after a week or two of being on the road, traveling NZ. The kitchen is huge with plenty of space. Each room has its own full size fridge and we had a private bathroom. The bathroom is not en suite but right next door and comes with a key so you can lock your things away if you wish. The property is beautiful, quiet, and has 200 avocado trees that you can walk under and relax. The public areas are very clean and the rooms are a good size. The location is in the county with a small town near by. The hosts were very kind and responsive. This is a nice out of the way place that I would love to visit again.

Emma (10/5): - I was very happy with my stay here. Andrea was very welcoming and helpful. I stayed in a dorm room, but turned out I had it to myself, which was nice. The facilities seem to be purpose built for small share accommodation, with a large kitchen and dining room, and separate lounge space. Everything was spotlessly clean. It felt very tranquil - close enough to the highway to be convenient for those travelling by car, but far enough away to feel like you're staying on a farm away from the world. I would definitely recommend staying here. The eggs and passionfruit were a nice welcoming touch as well.

Verified traveler (10/5): - I really enjoyed that this property was private and we had a lot of privacy with no distractions also that from every room we had a beautiful views. The beds were nice and comfortable with and rooms were very spacious. Nice and big.

SUSAN (10/5): - We were very comfortable and enjoyed our use of the communal lounge area. We were lucky to be the only visitors, it might seem a bit communal if all 4 rooms are taken. Good to be able to walk around the garden and Avo orchard.
Kristin (10/5): Lovely guest rooms within a working farm/orchard - I really enjoyed my time at this tidy and cheerful accomodation. The owner operators were wonderfully knowledgeable of the community and local attractions.
