- Harald (10/5): I want to recommend the Kiponda B&B, I liked everything about it. - The Kiponda B&B is clean, tidy and carefully renovated, so it has kept the original charms of an old Stone-Town-House. The shadowy terrace is simply stunning. You get free tea and coffee there during the whole day. The staff (without any exception) is extraordinarily friendly and helpful. It was perfect! Nothing to complain.

- Claudia (8/5): Liebevolles Personal und super zentrale Lage! - Das Kiponda liegt super zentral. Das Personal ist sehr zugewandt und hilfsbereit. Das Preis-Leistungsverhaeltnis ist perfekt. Die Ausstattung ist einfach, aber liebevoll. Die Terrasse ganz oben ist genial! Die Betten sind etwas kurz. Alles Andere ist super!
- Claudia (8/5): Super Lage! - Sie ist super zentral und das Personal ist klasse! Es ist alles gut.
- Frances (7/5): Economic place to stay in a great location - Great location, lovely staff. Beds can be uncomfortable

- Laurent (10/5): Je recommande - Staff très sympa et arrangeant. Le transfert aéroport ponctuel.et qui amène jusqu'à la porte. Le calme. Bonne literie. Climatisation+ventilateur plafond+moustiquaire. Bon petit déjeuner (fruits, produit laitier...). Wifi correct. J y ai passé 6 jours.
- Yvan (8/5): - Very friendly personal!
- Khadra (10/5): - Great location right in Stonetown. Room was very clean. Staff are extremely nice and hospitable. After checking out, an employee walked me to the ferry with my luggage. I highly recommend this hotel if you are staying in Stonetown.
- Emmi (10/5): - Really cosy accomandation right in Stone Town and good locaction. Good shower and bed for the price and they were really friendly and helpful, would recommend!!
- Ana (6/5): Good location - The location was good The rooms weren’t too clean. We were a group of 10. Some got comfy beds and some not. One room
Smelled a bit like humidity. I think if you are lucky with the room this hotel is good, otherwise not.
- Karolina (10/5): Great stay for solo travellers. Great amenities. Can honestly recommend! - The property was super clean, kept to a very high standard. There is signs of use in the room, but this isn’t a luxury stay hotel, and for the price it met all my expectations and even exceeded it. The room was spacious. Bed had mosquito nets, fresh linen changed daily and there was a desk for me to work at. Bathroom had a good shower with amazing water pressure, and amazing spelling soap bars.
But the main highlight of the stay was the staff. As a solo female traveler, safety is a priority and I couldn’t have felt more welcome. I was greeted by 3 lovely ladies who ensured I had a comfortable stay, helped me arrange transport, local tours and provided advice. I would like to truly thank the ladies who personally assisted me in helping me to pick up my takeaway late at night. They have taken me to the place, waited with me and took me back ensuring I was safe and comfortable- not being pestered by local vendors.
The breakfast choices were great. Muesli, cereal, fresh fruit, toast, eggs. Coffee and tea was available throughout the day.
I can’t recommend this place enough, and I’m not the one to usually leave reviews but the stay is worth me writing paragraphs. Tricky to find at first as Google maps is useless in the small alleys but that applies to any smaller shop/ restaurant in Stone Town. The locals are more than happy to help. Look out for the sign above the main entrance than relying on maps.
- Sarah (9/5): Great place for a Stone Town stopover - Great location, nice rooms, characterful old building, airy roof terrace, good breakfast and very nice staff. Nothing

- Andria (8/5): Very good -
- Christina (8/5): Very helpful staff! -
- Siphathisiwe (7/5): Good Hotel, Great stay. Rude manager. - Hotel staff is great, location is near everything, walkable distance to major attraction sites like Old Fort, Freddy Mercury House, The Tanzanite Museum, House of Wonders, Forodhani night park and the beach itsself. Facilities need an upgrade, for instance there are no curtains. Overally a good hotel, however I must say this, this hotel advertises an airport shuttle service, however does not provide such. I asked for an airport shuttle to be arranged on arrival at the lodge and the receptionist told me it was okay she would arrange it and would make sure I get an early breakfast for when I leave. On checking out of the hotel, no shuttle was arranged, even the manager asked me to call booking.com myself to provide the taxi they have their own taxi and their hotel doesn’t provide an airport shuttle service. I therefore had to organize my own transport an hour before airline departure time which was highly inconvenient for me. I was not so happy with false advertisement of the “airport shuttle service” which is specifically why I had chosen the lodge amongst other places. Apart from that issue, the hotel is not bad, I would give it a 7.5 out of 10.
- Tours (6/5): Interesting experience of culture. - Friendly, respectful and helpful staff. I noticed that the lady in the back office, seated behind the computer, does not engage with guests, she avoids eye contact and does not appear interested in interacting. Instead, she delegates staff to attend to clients. I'm unsure if she is the manager or owner, but her presence and demeanor may come across as unapproachable.
The breakfast option is very limited.
- Şengül (7/5): Good - People were very nice and helpful. Organized trips for us. Very old and we felt not very comfortable beacuse it seems dirty (because old)
- Diane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joshua (8/5): Very good -
- Aggie (8/5): Very good - Such a lovely BnB in a great location. The owner was super friendly and helpful.
The breakfast was included and was very nice with tea and coffee available all day.
Very comfortable and secure room. Has good charm and is such a bargain!
Would definitely return. Needing curtains but I'm sure they're coming soon as it was just opened.
- Jakub (10/5): Exceptional - A perfect place for backpackers and lone travelers. Good value for the money. Personel was also very helpful, especially Jimmy ^^
- Kamil (8/5): Very good - Very good location near the ferry port almost in the heart of Stone Town. Breakfast varied with fruits and delicious coffee. The perfect place for a short trip.
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - Only stayed a few hours, having arrived overnight, but was a delight all the same, especially with the lovely breakfast on the roof.
- Filip (9/5): Superb - Very beautiful place, super location in the centre of town. Good breakfast and very helpful staff. Very good value for money. It is really a nice place. No complaints.
- Robert (7/5): Excellent value for money - Excellent location and good breakfast. Helpful owners who organized Spice tour, very good guide. Margarine instead of butter !
- Sarah (10/5): super friendly female and local owned B&B - We had a great time at kiponda B&B and it is perfectly located.
The staff and owner were very friendly and helpful (recommendations, washing, reservations for restaurants)
The room was minimalist, but sufficiently furnished. The beds were comfortable, the A/C was working properly.
Breakfast was very good and fresh - with fruits and eggs etc.
would definitely recommend and book again. :)
- Heide (10/5): Amazing stay - Kiponda B&B is located in an old, well maintained historical townhouse, so beautiful. All personal are very friendly, wellcoming and helpful. We booked the Spistour and the visit to Prison zisland through them. The location is perfect. And we enjoyed the best breakfast in a stunning open room. We loved our stay, highly recomended. ASANTI SANA 🙏🏻
- Er (8/5): Very good -
- Luis (8/5): Very good -
- Aune (8/5): All-in-all a great stay - The location is great. The staff were also helpful and nice. Breakfast was simple, but included a great selection of fresh fruits which were a huge bonus. We booked spice tour and transfer via the hotel. The hotel is a little worn-down/shabby, but everything was functioning ok at our stay.
- Arjen (5/5): Passable - Nice old building. Nice Staff. A bit too old fashened.
- Molly (10/5): Exceptional - Great place in Stone Town for a couple night. Amazing location and lovely staff especially Jimmy who was very helpful!
- Rebecca (7/5): The owners arranged for a taxi for us and helped us find an ATM and a place to buy water. - We had a very nice breakfast, with minimal choices but lots of local fruit as well as eggs and toast. It was served upstairs in a room that was open to the air and very pleasant. There are a few things we feel would make this place better. 1. The owner should supply potable water - we had to buy our own. 2. The bathroom needed to have a curtain for the window. 3. The walls needed a fresh coat of paint. 4. The owner needs to have maps of Old Town to hand out to people who stay there.
- Luis (8/5): It’s a wonderful place to stay if you visit Zanzibar. - The location is very close to the beach and it’s right in the stone Town. Also the staff were really nice and very helpful. Should increase the capacity of the Wifi especially in the rooms because it was on and off.
- Howard (8/5): Good for a couple nites stay if you want to tour central Stone Town! - Although basic, my unit was comfortable. The complex was historic which always makes the stay unique. All the staff were top notch and so friendly. The terrace and the breakfast was great too. The locale was excellent near the Old Fort area. A small thing but in the bath, they only provided a soap bar which was used and was incredibly tough to get even a tiny lather. Please change your soap brand!
Please provide a small nite table beside the bed. The value- the nightly price was a bit steep given room condition. Figure out the route before hand to get there. I came through town and my tuk tuk driver had a really hard time finding it!
- Tichakunda (10/5): Exceptional - It is wonderfully located. The staff were very gracious to prepare breakfast and early check out for me at 5 am. Thank you Jimmy! Everything was good.
- Tichakunda (10/5): Exceptional - I really liked the location and Jimmy was a very friendly staff member who made me feel welcome. The room was big and comfortable. Very easy access to many attractions! Everything was good.
- Takashi (1/5): Almost a scum business this place. - Nothing! After checking seeing the room I left and looked for another hotel.
- Beth (9/5): Superb - Good breakfast, being in an old building in Stone Town, short walk to Forodhani Park
- Damien (8/5): Very good -
- Jenny (9/5): Superb -
- Elisabeth (9/5): Superb - Great and authentic atmosphere, nice Design, lovely breakfast at the terrace
- Nicolas (7/5): Good - Calm and central place. Nothing special but descent B&B with Aircon and a solid breakfast. Everything you need to discover the city and get a good sleep at night Bathroom could do with some renovations
- Kim (8/5): Very good - Simpler standard at the facility, but that is offset by the lower price.
The staff is nice and helpful. They quickly answered our questions before our arrival and they even arranged a taxi for us to pick us up at the airport.
- Rose (7/5): Good -
- Venesa (6/5): Pleasant - The friendliness and hospitality of the staff The many stairs
- Silvia (8/5): Very good - The breakfast rooftop is absolutely lovely, and the house is very conveniently located. The mattress and pillows could be improved.
- Anisha (8/5): Very good - the room was comfortable and the location was superb in stonetown close to the beach. My parents enjoyed their stay and would recommend it to anyone.
- Bal (6/5): Pleasant place recommend to people who need a place to put their head down. They have onsuite which - Place is basic but very clean and useable. N/A
- Gemma (8/5): Nice location and terrace but a bit noisy at night - Hotel in the heart of zanzibar with a nice terrace. Our main complain is the noise from the street at night. We had to sleep with earplugs.
- Kareem (10/5): Friendly staff, good location, amazing value for money - First and foremost, super friendly and helpful staff!
The location was good
Value for money
There was ac in the room although they mentioned only a fan. There is not much I didn’t like, maybe a bidet would have been nice to have, but overall this will be my go to place when I’m in stone town
- Sebastian (10/5): Exceptional - Staff were extremely helpful, they even walked me to a local electronics shop in stone town when my phone charger broke. The location is brilliant, right in the heart of stone town but only 1 street back from the water so easy to find and remember where you are. Also quite near to the ferry terminal so no taxi required if you’re arriving by ferry. Facilities are basic, but still good for what you pay for. My room had a fan and air conditioning which both worked well. The terrace on top is absolutely beautiful, you can only really see the adjacent buildings but they all the quintessential stone town architecture so it’s still very nice. It was a bit noisy but considering it’s in the middle of stone town it’s actually pretty good. I also got washing done there which was reasonably priced for hotel standards. The breakfast was quite basic but it’s included so can’t complain! I was tossing up between staying here and somewhere slightly more expensive a bit out of stone town, very glad I chose here and you will be too!
- Louise (7/5): Good -
- Mariette (8/5): Lovely roof terrace, value for money - Roof terrace is lovely, quiet place to relax. With some books to read and free coffee and tea.
Breakfast was very good.
Location close to ferry and in Stone Town is good.
Affordable. Our room at the ground floor didn't have any view.
Bathroom was very basic.
Wifi was not so good.
- Stefan (8/5): Very good - Central location;
Big room;
Good breakfast;
Friendly staff; We stayed for 2 nights but had to change room after the first night. Huge amount of mosquitos in the second room, though the owners provided mosquito spray for the room, which more or less solved the problem.
- Will (9/5): A must stay in Stone town! Let the amazing staff look after you. Simple & comfortable accommodation! - Wow, what a little gem of a place. Perfect spot to get lost in Stone town and the staff are just amazing! The basic but perfect breakfast was lovely too. A bit noisy in the neighbourhood because, well... People live close together there... I wish bottled water was provided but nearly every little shop sells it though.
- Mourtaza (8/5): Very good - The room were very beautiful and authentic. The location is perfect, walking distance to almost everything in Stone Town.
- Wanderertz (1/5): Don't bother, deceptive people - Very nice central location The pictures in the app and what we got were totally different. They're using outdated pictures or just lying.
The staff were not friendly or considerate
They made us pay more than the price that was quoted on the app because of high demand and because we were paying in TZS (which is illegal to do in znz!)
- Frederick (8/5): Very good - Location
- Gesine (10/5): Exceptional - WONDERFUL and authentic, lovely staff!
- Egan (8/5): Very good -
- Kitchibln (10/5): Good value, perfect location for exploring Stonetown, with attentive, helpful staff. - The location of Kiponda is perfect for exploring Stonetown, being near the water and right amidst the alleyways we wanted to follow, and is also near the wharf if travelling by ferry.
The staff are extremely helpful and upgraded our room to make sure we were comfortable. They led us to a great restaurant on arrival, and booked the spice tour for us, making life easy.
Breakfast is served in a delightful, airy, open area upstairs with fresh tropical fruit, freshly brewed coffee, warm chipatee, cereals and eggs if you wish.
A relaxing , hospitable place to stay. And the ceiling fans were great to keep us cool in the bedrooms.
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paulina (9/5): Superb - Quite even though it's super central. Very close to the ferries and super friendly staff The bathroom needed some repairs, but was working
- Gizem (10/5): Exceptional - I recently had the pleasure of staying at Kiponda B&B Hotel in Stone Town, and I must say it was a perfect experience from start to finish. From the moment I arrived with my big luggage, my first priority was finding a safe place to store it for the duration of my stay in Zanzibar. They not only offered secure storage facilities but exceeded my expectations by providing a reliable solution for my needs. Due to a delayed flight, I arrived at the hostel much later than anticipated. Despite the inconvenience, Salma, the owner, went above and beyond by offering to refund the cost of the missed day of my reservation. This gesture of understanding and flexibility immediately made me feel welcomed and valued as a guest. Upon my return, with an early morning flight looming, Salma surprised me once again with her exceptional hospitality. She kindly arranged a room for me, ensuring I had a comfortable and stress-free stay before my departure. I cannot express enough gratitude for the level of care and hospitality I experienced here. Salma's dedication to guest satisfaction is truly remarkable and sets a standard of service that I have rarely encountered in my travels. For solo travelers who want to explore the island like myself, navigating with a large luggage, Kiponda Hotel is an absolute gem. I wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone seeking a hassle-free stay in Stone Town, Zanzibar. the WiFi is not available in the rooms, but it didn't significantly impact my experience.
- Paul (10/5): It’s never too late to put a very satisfying checkmark next to a lifetime dream. Zanzibar - DONE! - While we’re not talking high end accommodations here, what I am saying is that I received great value for the price. Mohammed and staff went above and beyond in anticipating and meeting our needs. If you’re going to Zanzibar for an all-inclusive beach stay, this is the wrong venue. If you want a perfect location to experience the life and culture of Stone Town, then this is the absolutely best place for you. A truly unique adventure. As a cooler temperatures loving Canadian, the heat and humidity at the end of February in Zanzibar was tough to adjust to.
- Cheikh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mika (10/5): Best accommodation here - Great location and very helpfull staff. This BB are great value. Old historical building and breakfast on the rooftop. Hot shower, a/c and fan.
- Sarah (8/5): Very good - Friendly helpful service, good location. Safe.
