Guest Reviews
- Peter (8/5): -
- Matthias (10/5): - Sehr freundlich! Regionale Produkte! Tolles altes Gebäude passend zum Ort!
- Andrew (10/5): Very comfortable B&B near the Coastal Path - Very comfortable en suite room and decent full breakfast. Hosts Anna and George were very welcoming. A good option for the Coastal Path when The Anchor is full or a stay in the village is preferred.
- Lynne Manget (10/5): Beautiful experience at friendly working historic farm - We met all the wonderful farm animals first and loved them. Funny, busy welcoming dogs with collie Blue racing over roof tops and hoping for cuddles. Show Connemara pony and gentle Shetland. Colorful chickens, ducks, and wandering geese always at hand. Arriving early and jet lagged, we were so grateful to get our comfy quaint and lovely room right away. Very unexpected of kind and accomodating host, Wendy. The breakfast sitting room, museum like, is filled wall to wall with colorful fascinating treasures of the hundreds of years of lives here. Town is a short scenic walk, and a hike on the hills above it yields magnificent views of this bucolic old village. Double bed was a bit small for us but comfy beautiful decor made up for it.
- Jonathan (8/5): Comfortable - It was quirky but really comfortable and nice
- Mark (8/5): -
- Marcus (8/5): -
- Caroline (1/5): Disappointing - Not up to modern standards - dodgy electrics, overloaded sockets, carpet in bathroom, extractor fan mouldy and non functioning
The worst thing was that the hostess knew there was nowhere to eat in the village in the evening ( and obviously hadn’t been for some time ( see photo) and didn’t let us know until our arrival, by which time it was too late to cancel booking - she made no offer to help us with this problem whatsoever ( we were on foot) and we ended up walking four miles extra( after a long days hiking) just to be able to have supper
It would have been so easy for her to offer us a lift or to let us use her kitchen to heat something up - but she just shrugged her shoulders
This will be an ongoing problem with this village for some time
- bysqy (7/5): - Excellent location and reasonably clean. Host friendly. Quirky and I appreciated something different. If you love nature, plenty to hear and enjoy! Rooms small and decor deeply personal - not to my taste and probably not yours. Could use limescale remover everywhere. Carpet in bathroom! Breakfast 830 to 900 only, very limited options. Fine for one night but never a first choice.

- Kathryn (7/5): Short but pleasant stay overall - Delightful location in Abbotsbury village and very close to coast path. Comfortable bed. Nice en suite shower room and the shower worked very well. A good cooked breakfast. Unfortunately there was no availability of evening meal in the village on a Wednesday evening. There was only one chair in the twin room and there was no room where it was possible to sit for the evening. Breakfast was not available before 08.30am and we would have preferred to be able to set out earlier on our walk.

- peter (8/5): Very nice stay whilst doing the SWCoast path walk -
- Laraine (8/5): A lovely warm welcome in a stunning location in Abbotsbury. - A lovely traditional and authentic farmhouse B&B which are vanishingly rare these days. Mrs Wood was lovely and looked after us very well, particularly as we arrived wet and late after a tough day walking the South West Coast Path. The location is stunning and very quiet and the house full of interesting curios and family history - going back to the 17th C. Nothing not to like here.
- David (8/5): Pleasant and quiet - Bed very comfortable Maybe some fruit at breakfast
- Gill (8/5): Beautiful B&B - The hosts were friendly and accommodating. Nice cooked breakfast. Cottage is cosy and well situated for the local pub the Swan Bedroom a little cluttered with furniture
- Gaye (10/5): We loved it here! Thank you for taking such good care of us! - Best breakfast ever!! Beautiful cosy home full of interesting treasures! Very welcoming!
- Clare (10/5): -
- Adrian (9/5): -
- Georgina (9/5): - Wendy was very friendly. Location was ideal for me.
- Doug (9/5): - A wonderful, and very traditional B&B.
Wendy was friendly, interesting and always helpful. £120 for twin room seemed a tad steep, but if that's the Abbotsbury going rate then so be it!
- Nigel (10/5): - A lovely character filled cottage with lovely hosts N/A
- Elizabeth (8/5): - Great location. Very friendly. Comfortable. Delicious breakfast.
- Karen (9/5): - Loved the quaint atmosphere and friendly welcome. A delicious breakfast!

- Lori (10/5): Great character setting with a lovely hostess! - Lovely hostess who very kindly dried our soaking shoes overnight as we were walking south coast path and got caught in a crazy downpour. She saved us as walking 20 km the next day in wet shoes would have been a disaster!
- Keith (9/5): Full of old world charm with chickens running in the backyard and great hospitality -
- Roger (8/5): - Friendly and comfortable
- Rachel (9/5): The B & B has a lot of character with interesting pictures and books to look at. - The host kindly met my request for uncooked tomato and mushroom. The tomatoes she gave me were very tasty and from her own greenhouse. She allowed me to have a different room from the one she had planned as I thought the instructions for use of the shower in the first room were too complicated. Thankfully, I had no problem using the shower in the room she allowed me to use. I think it may also have been quieter as it didn't look out on to the main road. I enjoyed seeing a horse being led down the road below my window in the morning. The only thing I thought could be better was having a blanket as in the summer, a duvet can be too hot. I used a spare towel and my mac over the sheet as I found the duvet too warm.
There may be some technical issues here as when I try to click on the face icons, nothing changes!
- David (7/5): - Location in the centre of the village was good. Nice breakfast. The decor of the rooms is obviously to the taste of the host, but for me, I can only cope with so much “chintz and floral decor”.
- Frank (8/5): -
- Danny (10/5): -
- Tony (9/5): Home from home - Lovely proprietors who were very welcoming. Lots of animals wandering around outside. Fantastic breakfast
- Georgie (10/5): - Walking distance to the gardens and in the village.
- Anderson (10/5): Great! - The bedroom was comfortable and had everything we needed and the breakfast was exceptional! Wendy was extremely welcoming and couldn't do enough to help us 🙂
- Sheila (8/5): - Comfortable, well located, v helpful host
- Francesco (10/5): Wishing to be back soon in Abbotsbury - A very pleasant atmosphere in a real farm located in the outskirts of the cosy village of Abbotsbury. The room was so nice and the breakfast with free-range eggs was delicious.
- John (6/5): Enjoyable - The breakfast was enjoyable and the location was great. The b&b was very unusual and querky, which added to its charm. In spite of of my negative comments Ie joyed my stay. Our room was full of nick nacks which left little room for our necessities. The dining room was so full of Wendy’s ornaments that looked as if cleaning would have been very difficult. Stairs very steep, not for anyone who is not fully mobile.
- Nigel (7/5): - On site parking was available and the landlady was very pleasant. Breakfast was poor choice ...very limited. Not what was expected. No fruit, no yogurt....no peppermint tea....no continental breakfast. Full English breakfast or scrambled eggs were the limited choices. The front was locked by 22:30, so late return from an evening out would not have been possible.
- Alison (8/5): Very good -
- Donnison (9/5): Excellent place to stay when visiting the area. - Staff welcoming and friendly, room very nice, breakfast was excellent. Location good for events at the Tropical Gardens. Nothing everything was good.
- David (8/5): Very good - We really enjoyed our stay at EFH. It was extremely conveniently located for our particular itinerary of the SWCP that had us in town that night. Wendy cooks the eggs from her own farm for breakfast so were wonderfully fresh. The house and room were decked out in amazing fabrics and Wendy extends her interior decoration skills to sewing the tea cozies on the pots on the breakfast table. The breakfast room in particular is full of interesting things and ornaments and, as commented by everyone at breakfast, rather resembles a museum. She is proud of the house, it having been in her family’s ownership for generations.
- Frances (9/5): Good - will be back - We love the host Wendy and it’s location. The property is very quirky and we love the animals there.
- Caroline (5/5): Disappointed with breakfast but location was great. - I liked the location No fruit was offered at breakfast.
Not enough selection of cereal.
Bacon was hard ..
- Tracey (4/5): Dated, cluttered and rude - It’s location. It was the only option available to us. We’re walking the SWCP. It is dated, cluttered and dusty. But you can tell most of that from the pictures and so we were expecting it to a point.. but not the level it was. Our main problem was the lady who owned it- she was rude. From the moment we arrived she tried to argue with us about why we’re vegan and force eggs on us. We’ve been vegan for 13 years. It’s personal, we don’t try and convert anyone- we only let her know because she asked about dietary requirements. At breakfast the next morning she was very abrupt and rude to us and other guests seated in the cramped, dusty dining room. We’ve stayed in 55 different accoms on the SWCP so far and all have only been kind and accommodating, which made this one stand out so much.
- Tim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alexandra (8/5): Very good - Really cosy room in a lovely B&B. The town and surrounding countryside are beautiful and there's loads to do locally.
- Mark (8/5): A lovely room in a great location.Recommended - A lovely clean and comfortable room with interesting decor. Good location. Good meals at The Swan Inn nearby. No fridge. Communication re entry time request and breakfast timing could have been better.
- sheila (8/5): - Very convenient for walking the SW Coast path
- Elaine (6/5): Adequate. - Breakfast was very pleasant albeit limited in choice. Location to wedding venue excellent, flexible on check-in time to accommodate timings of wedding ceremony. Room nice and clean, shower facilities good. Rooms were very crowded. No flexibility over timings for breakfast. Limited choice for breakfast options.
- Burton (7/5): Pleasant enough stay - Comfortable beds and nice enough breakfast (eggs were over though). The 400 yo little property was charming as was the village and surrounds. Host was friendly enough. A bit musty smelling and old. Toilet was difficult to flush properly.
- Sara (9/5): Superb - Location fab for walking coastal path!
Wendy very helpful. Lovely clean bedding and cosy room.
- Casavant (10/5): We would love to come back. We would recommend this place to anyone looking for a true English stay! - The most quaint English bed and breakfast that we have ever experienced! Clean, comfortable, excellent location, the history of the place was amazing. 600 plus years old - amazing. It was like travelling back in time but with modern benefits! Nothing - it was perfectly quaint! Wonderful host!
- Glen (9/5): A very comfortable B&B - Great location in a picture postcard village. Wendy was friendly and helpful but not excessively. Her breakfasts were excellent. My room was clean and comfortable. There was plenty of tea, coffee and milk.
There is also a good pub serving good food across the road. Nothing for me but bare in mind it is a working farm and there are free ranging ducks, geese and chickens.
- Kay (8/5): A perfectly lovely stay and excellent value for the money. - The cooked breakfast was perfectly adequate and very well cooked with good, tasty ingredients.
My friend and I had very comfortable beds and an enjoyable one-night stay. We slept like logs!
The lady owner and her daughter were very friendly. We had no complaints but it is a rather quirky place and may not suit everyone's taste.
The stairs to the bedrooms are fairly steep so may not be possible for those with mobility issues.
- Trevor (8/5): Lovely characterful home - Lovely warm welcome from Wendy, who was so nice and so proud of her lovely home. It is a lovely characterful home, in which we were made to feel very welcome. Good breakfast with delicious eggs from the farm.
- Tissa (10/5): Overall pleasant , a little pricy compared to where we had just visited , Penzance & Glastonbury . - We love the village of Abbotsbury , know it well & visit the Swans & Sub tropical garden whenever we are in the area . Lovely hosts & hosts daughter was amazing with preparing breakfasts / cleaning rooms before going to the yard next door for her “ own job”, well done her 😊 All very lovely , quirky dining area with many old English features . Maybe access to the beautiful garden as when the weather is fab and longer evenings would be nice to sit out .
- Hermon (9/5): A very enjoyable break. - Lovely breakfast. Eggs from the chicken on the farm.
Perfect location for our visit to the subtropical gardens and he swannery.
- Olga (9/5): Comfortable and relaxing we slept really well - It was a good basic breakfast and the owner was very pleasant, interesting and informative. The farmhouse was steeped in history. A bit more choice at breakfast would have been better but there wasn’t anything we didn’t like.
- Richard (7/5): Lovely - Great location and lovely old farmhouse. Shower was a bit cramped.
- Stirling (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Ken (8/5): Very good - The breakfast room was very homely with an eclectic mix of family related items and miscellaneous objects.
- Frank (8/5): An enjoyable short break. - The room was comfortable, and was just what we needed. The location was excellent, and the Landlady Wendy was welcoming and friendly. Nothing really.
- Hilary (8/5): Just what we needed - We had a wonderful full English breakfast cooked by Wendy.
The house has lots of really interesting nicknacks.
It was very comfortable. I can't think of anything.
- Pip (10/5): Exceptional -
- Keith (9/5): Superb -
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Enjoyed staying in a Dorset longhouse .
- Rollo (10/5): Perfect comfortable place to stay - We had a wonderful stay - Wendy could not have been more hospitable. She let us check-in very early (we were on our way to a wedding with a 1pm start), and cooked us a fantastic breakfast in the morning, with excellent coffee. The room was very sweet - comfortable bed and a good shower, with lots of storage had we needed. It's a very pretty old house on a quiet road, just off the main road with off-street parking. The village is very picturesque.
- Jennifer (8/5): Very good -
- Karen (10/5): Lovely stay in a fantastic village - Great location for exploring Abbotsbury. Great little farmhouse with geese, chickens and ducks in the yard. Our room was cosy and clean. Loved our breakfast and enjoyed chatting with the other guest who sat with us in the dining room. Parking was in the yard behind the farmhouse, which was really convenient and easy. We have a large car, but it fitted in just fine. Thanks to Wendy for a lovely stay! Happy with everything!
- Walkman451 (9/5): Great location for very enjoyable overnight stay - Had a lovely night here with my partner, who joined me for several days as I was walking the SW Coast Path. A perfect location for that and a quite unexpectedly interesting and charming location (both the village and B&B). Our hostess was great and the cooked breakfast was lovely. Really enjoyed meeting the owner's geese and hens in the long house farmyard and seeing the Shetland pony in its stable. Having breakfast on a communal table was a plus as we shared our experiences walking the path. The mattress on the bed was firm, which was good for us. Others have referenced the steep stairs, which did not trouble us. The 'quirky' features were genuine and memorable. Individual styling to the max and we will remember it fondly.
- Carol (9/5): Picture perfect country cottage with a delightful host and quiet, comfortable room. - The breakfast was absolutely delicious, with eggs from the host's chickens being especially good.
- Lisanne (8/5): Very good -
- Nicola (10/5): Wonderful! - This was the most beautiful little property, very quaint , it was like waking up in a novel this morning! Wendy is lovely, such a sweet character, and made us feel very welcome!
- Joanna (8/5): Delightful olde world charm cottage BnB - Very friendly hosts, beautiful quiet location in lovely village, and delicious breakfast with host's own duck eggs. It was a little cool and no bedside light on one side.
- Caroline (7/5): Good - The host was very kind. Lots of knick knacks. Not my taste
- Richard (7/5): Good -
- Faith (9/5): Superb -
- Ken (8/5): A nostalgic visit to Abbotsbury where my partner used to live for some years - The breakfast and the new laid eggs for sale which we bought plenty of nothing springs to mind
- Helen (8/5): Quiet comfy room near pub that did food, suited our walking holiday stop - Location on south west coast path. Pretty cottage, had horse in room next to us which was fun hearing him in the night. No flexibility with breakfast, 9am only
- Louise (8/5): Very good - Lovely cottage in a lovely village. Host Wendy was amazing. Very friendly and helpful. So nice. Lovely cooked breakfast. Comfortable rooms. Lovely surroundings. Thought it was slightly overpriced for the time of year we stayed. Local pubs closed at 8pm, nothing else open. But lovely village and lovely cottage . Lots of animals , horses, chickens ducks, etc. Lovely free range eggs!
- Helen (8/5): Loved Abbotsbury. What a beautiful village. - Quirky room in keeping with an old cottage. Good breakfast which is served at 8.30am. Doors locked at 10.30pm which was fine for us as we were exhausted from a days walking.
- Lily (10/5): Quaint BnB in beautiful Abbotsbury - Beautiful quaint property with lots of character. Excellent breakfast in the morning after a comfortable nights sleep. Perfect for our SW Coast adventure!
- Jonathan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jennifer (9/5): Superb -
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bb (9/5): Look no further - Great choice when visiting Abbotsbury. We felt welcomed the moment we arrived. Our room (blue room) was clean, comfortable and spacious. The entire B&B is filled with antiques that were collected with love. Great location. Friendly and helpful host.
- Roy (8/5): Very good - Lovely land lady.
- Janice (10/5): Exceptional -
- Denise (9/5): Very good - Lovely old cottage in the centre of the fascinating village half a mile from the SW coast path. Very helpful owner who provided lots of newspaper to stuff into our squelchy boots. Great meal in the traditional pub nearby. Very good full English breakfast. (Other options were probably available but we didn’t ask). Rooms were small as you would expect in a cottage but very clean. Supplementary electric heater in the room. Nothing. The decor was a bit fussy for our taste but that is not a criticism.
- Keith (5/5): Disappointing cluttered accomodation - we stayed here by Hobson's choice. Walking the Jurassic Coast there is a dearth of choice around Abbotsbury. If you are a fan of Bargain Hunt , this is the place for you..
Never stayed anywhere with so much clutter in my life. This is a Dorset Long house so is already short on space, so to fill the bedroom and communal areas with so much clutter just makes everything claustrophobic.
Breakfast basic - queried the toughness of the bacon and was told ' yes, I left it in the cooker too long!' (but still made the decision to stick it on your plate!)
- Stephen (10/5): Highly recommened - Very comfortable room. Lovely host. Great breakfast. Located across from excellent pub.
- David (6/5): Pleasant - Old worthy charm Average Breakfast and unclean bedding
- Janice (10/5): Traditional beautiful place - What a delightful place Mary went above and beyond to help
- Ken (6/5): Comfortable room, host pleasant and helpfull - Breakfast was limited for choice, but sufficient to set you up for the day. All was up to my expectations.
- Camilla (10/5): Exceptional -
