- Harston (9/5): When you want to let your hair down and get away from it all... - A peaceful haven on the city's outskirts - approximately 16 minutes by tuk tuk. Lush, green gardens provide privacy between traditional Khmer huts. The huts were fairly basic inside - a king-size bed (which was very comfy and with mosquito net), small side tables, and a larger table for your suitcase. The front porches have bamboo chairs and a hammock! Everything, including the furniture, was handmade by the household's father - this being a family-run business. I especially liked the traditional Khmer washing urn. There's no hot water, but the cold bucket shower was extremely refreshing. Cannot finish off without mentioning the home-cooked food, which was delicious! A little bit of a hassle getting to and from the property via tuk tuk from the city centre. It's not well known by many drivers. It shouldn't cost more than US3.50 one way.
- Louis (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful spot emersed in nature, very peaceful and relaxing place, big room, friendly staff, good food
- Agathe (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jennifer (10/5): I truly loved this place and people - Beautiful property, lovely food and family, relaxing and simply wonderful
The bathing situation was a traditional bath from a large clay vessel of water It was really refreshing and amazing The site says free shuttle service That’s not the case, $5 each way into town and back.
- Maricarmen (10/5): - Peaceful, in nature, the property was perfect for me.
The family was welcoming and helpful, the home cooked meals excellent, flavourful and great value...I loved the coffee too!
My bungalow was spacious and had everything I needed..( electrical outlets, lights, ceiling fan and even WiFi!
Simple life at its best.
- Marine (8/5): If you want an authentic and beautiful experience hou should not miss it - I’ve witnessed one of the best sunsets from the bungalows. The garden is beautiful. Bungalows clean, nice with big and comfy beds. It is owned but a very welcoming family. I enjoyed my stay and I am happy I did it You are in nature thus be ready for birds, squirrel and other beautiful animals around )) also in the morning they all sing and make nooses, but again it’s a part of the experience.
There’s no hot water and you need to have your soup, shampoo and things so be prepared.
Also, you’ll need to buy drinking water as it is not provided.
- Ciska (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice place and very friendly hosts!!! The surrounding area is so peaceful. The bamboo huts were so cosy. We really enjoyed our stay!
- Charlotte (9/5): Don't miss the chance to try a different sort of stay! - Staying here was a real experience! we arrived at this beautiful spot to the north of Battambang in time for sunset over the paddy fields. We really appreciated the thought that has gone into this place - yes, it's rustic and simple (don't expect hotel luxury) but it has been so carefully designed, with beautiful garden landscaping and intimate bungalows to give guests a taste of life tourists may not otherwise experience. The lovely owner built the whole place himself, mostly from bamboo. The family speak good English and are very helpful and knowledgeable about the local area. We stayed three nights and loved our time here. We liked everything but we had read about the place beforehand so were prepared for the more basic aspects, like the Khmer shower! All part of the experience though, and staying here is a great chance to support a local family's wonderful vision.
- Andy (10/5): This is a perfect place to stay - The property is amazing as well as the owners. They are so accommodating and even gave us a private tour of the area.
- Matthew (8/5): Lovely stay in the countryside with a real feel for Khmer lifestyle run by a wonderful Khmer family. - This is a unique property located in the countryside that gives one a proper feel for Khmer life with a local family. The home cooked cuisine is authentic and delicious.
The bamboo huts are exactly that and while basic, the beds are comfortable and have mosquito nets. It would be good to have a small water heater in each bathroom.
- David (10/5): A real treat to stay somewhere different! - Very comfortable accommodation, nestled in a beautiful garden - nature is everywhere, including frogs, squirrels, and birds. It was refreshing to get away from the standard accommodation options. The bungalows are outside "downtown" Battambang, but there's plenty of places at which to eat and drink in the evening that are only a short tuktuk ride away. Breakfast at the bungalows was the perfect way to start the day - I would come again just for the coffee!
- Niki (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rae (8/5): Very good - Staying with a family, food was excellent
- Penny (7/5): Bliss - Peace and tranquility, along with warm and welcoming atmosphere. No WiFi, but honestly, they were upfront about this in their description of the property. The hosts also offered to hot-spot off their own phones, and helped by arranging a Tuk Tuk into a lovely coffee shop in Battambang that has WiFi.
- Arthur (10/5): Excellent stay at Mr. driver's place! - Location is amazing, in the countryside with the view on the rice field. The bamboo rooms are so atypical and although there are plenty of space, we don't get disturbed by insects or other animals.
As it is far from the city it is worth having food at the restaurant (the food is definitely awesome) and take a tour with Mr. driver. Unless you have your own plan already, like cycling around, I would recommend to stay there and use all services provided.
It's out of the city, which I loved, but to consider based on your priorities.
Lastly, the kindness of the people there was something 👌🏼
- Joel (8/5): Great place if you want to try a traditional type of stay albeit at the price of comfort and taxi - Quiet location, quaint accommodation and best part was the staff were so friendly! Absolutely wrecked by mosquitoes, also costs about $5USD or 20000 Riel for a cab into town one way
- Simon (9/5): Delightful - The host family are lovely and very attentive and the bungalows are set alongside paddy fields. It gave us a real insight into Cambodian village life.
The showers are by bucket from a big water urn but this is fine and we actually extended our stay because it was so restful. We liked everything but you should be aware the toilet / shower is not en suite.
- Joseph (5/5): Passable -
- Naghme (10/5): Exceptional -
- Salome (9/5): Great stay full of memories - This guesthouse was everything it thought it would be: quite isolated in the countryside of Battambang, a peaceful bungalow to rest and fuel for the next part of our trip. It was great to spend time with the family and the tuk-tuk ride offered was just amazing: it's a mix of history, culture, food tour and small hike. Would definitely do it again! I think it's not the cheapest housing (for similar comfort you can find cheaper accommodation) but that's ok.
- Jodi (8/5): Sweet little bungalows. - Sweet bungalow made by the owner. The spot was comfortable and beautiful . Great place to escape! It was fun to ride bikes around the local village and into the rice paddies and lotus fields. The food was great too! And I LOVED the traditional bath. It was so refreshing! A bit of music from the place next door.
- Giulia (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful and quiet place, family owned. Sophorn is also a tour guide and is amazing, a VIP in Battambang!
- Marina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Weronika (10/5): Exceptional - Everything - bungalow was simple but clean and comfortable, food very good. It’s a bit outside of the city, but that’s the charm of the place. The owners are super nice and helpful, they also organized for us an amazing guide, Mr. Sam, for a day trip around Battambang. Highly recommend.
- Ellie (10/5): Rustic and charming stay run by the kindest family! - Beautiful property about 15 minutes north of central Battambang. Quiet and serene! Home cooked meals on premises, very tasty and great value. The family that runs it is so nice, kind and genuine people! Loved the traditional “Khmer shower”! Everything was perfect!
- Keith (10/5): Lovely stay, fantastic welcome! - A fantastic stay at the Dream bungalows. The family running the accommodation were outstanding, making us feel so welcome. We did a day tour with the owner which was a brilliant way to see all the sights around Battambang. The bungalows themselves are simple but in a lovely, calming location. Whilst it didn't bother us, if you wanted easy access to Battambang town then the bungalows are a fair way out. Some people may not like that the washing facilities are basic.
- Nina (9/5): A lovely place for a quiet, peaceful, simple stay, close to one of the area's old temple ruins. - I enjoyed the peace and quiet. As a bonus, it was very close to a historic old temple, that was easy to reach with a borrowed bicycle. The food was tasty and freshly made, and the owner and his family were all very welcoming. Sanitary facilities are basic, with a toilet and bucket shower. They were kept quite clean, and were located a short distance from my bungalow. The bungalow itself was a room on stilts made of wood, bamboo and woven mats. A ceiling fan provided a cooling breeze. It had a balcony, with hammock, table and chairs. The free pick-up in town was with a motorbike, so big suitcases would present a bit of a challenge! All in all, it was a lovely place to get away from a hectic life and chill for a bit!
- Niki (10/5): Nature stay in Battambang - Immersed in nature with friendly staff, beautiful bungalows with a very Khmer feel, this was a great authentic experience!
- Jaap (10/5): A paradise, away from the crowds - A little paradise, away from the crowds. The more than lovely family made us feel welcome and at home. Hotel owner provided a great tour. The food is great and the sunset terrace is amazing. Nothing! Everything was perfect, even the shower in Cambodian style added to the fun!
- Iaroslava (10/5): Very peaceful and relaxing, best place for me to stay in Battambang - I've been to Battambang few times and stayed in different places, but this is my favorite one so far. Even though I rarely sacrifice my comfort, this place (with it's Khmer style bath tub:) is totally worth it. It's very well taken care of, everything is very clean, bedsheets, towels, curtains are always extremely fresh. It's surrounded by the lavish garden and is very peaceful and relaxing. Also, the owner and the whole family are very polite and helpful.
- Eduardo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christina (10/5): One of our highlights in Cambodia - Outside of town, quiet and peaceful. The family built a little jungle with beautiful bungalows in their garden. The shower is very basic:water + trowel-you don't need more :)
The food was amazing. The host is also a tour guide for a lot of years and we did a full-day tour with him, also to non-touristic places. The family was always around (had dinner next to us) and helped us with all questions.
The family also supports the local community, they built up a school for kids to teach them English (as they don't learn it in public school), so staying there, also supports them in doing this important job. -
- Radja (9/5): Immerse yourself in nature! - If you are looking to immerse yourself in nature, this is the place for you. The stay is a bit far from the city center but its worth it. The host built the whole place himself using bamboo and palm stems. There is no WiFi which made it a good experience to disconnect a bit. Food supplied by the host is delicious. Everything we had was yum. Very comfortable bed, clean sheets, and sweet hosts. Great view on sunset. They offered us a pick up from the station. And guided us to get a scooter and the itineraries for the whole 2 days. We ended up extending our stay with them. Not related to the host or the place but more in the neighborhood. There were a loud music coming from a wedding in the area and they started very early. If you are OK with it then it's fine.
- Tom (10/5): Bamboo heaven, a must-see relaxing experience - The perfect place to stay in Battambang ♥️ The host and family were super welcoming, the food was delicious and the accommodations are stunning. The whole place was built by hands of the family out of local bamboo, and it’s amazingly well done - with a beautiful place to watch the sunset across nearby paddies. The host even collected us from the boat in his tuktuk for free. The bat cave driver he arranged for us was brilliant, reasonably priced and off the tourist track. Bicycles were free to rent and the countryside is lush to explore, properly immersed in rural life 🌞 Its truly a dream place to stay, we extended for a few more days and even ended up having a karaoke party with them and their neighbours before we departed. The facilities are back to basics, but honestly that’s all part of the charm and the experience. 100% recommend. It’s perfect exactly as it is ♥️
- Lee (10/5): Best Hotel Experience - Everything, paradise with a bird sanctuary, plant and tree heaven and right in the heart of ride fields. This place made me the happiest, the hosts are exceptional, kind and cooked the best food I had in Cambodia. YOU MUST STAY HERE for nature lovers.
- Oliver (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jennifer (10/5): Great experience - It’s unique and a good price for the night away from the city. Battambang is a little slow and boring. This accommodation is in the outskirts of town and you can rent a bike and explore the local life around.
I enjoyed staying in the bungalows and washing myself with a bucket. The food served here is absolutely delicious and fresh. They even found fresh fish for me to cook as I requested I wanted to try their fish amok. I also really enjoyed their vegetable tomyum and chicken noodle soup. I highly recommend this place for a sort of unique experience and a nice getaway from the city and trying out their delicious food.
I lounged around their hammocks for awhile too. It’s a great place to relax. $5 TukTuk to get there, $5 to also leave
- Cyril (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent retreat away from the city All great
- Glenn (10/5): Exceptional - OK, it's hard to rate or compare this to another hotel. This is an experience unique to itself. The owner of the hotel built the bamboo bungalows himself by hand. The entire structure and furniture is all bamboo. The food was absolutely delicious and the owners are so kind and go out of their way. If you want a rustic experience and a chance to relax then this is your place. It has a shared bath area and you use a sistern full of water and a scoop to wash yourself and western style toilets. It has a great sunset on the 2 level structure out back. They have 2 bikes you can borrow to expore. This place allows you to emerce yourself in the local culture.
- Kelly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emma (10/5): Beautiful location, beautiful property, beautiful family - Really great to be out in the countryside and fall asleep to the sounds of nature. The family who run here were really friendly and couldn’t do enough for me. I paid for a day trip to the bay caves and bamboo railway and was charged a really reasonable price. Really got a feel for the real Cambodia. Couldn’t recommend this place more highly! It’s far from the city so would be more awkward to go for dinner in town but certainly not impossible. I went for lunch in town and had dinner at the bungalows which was lovely Khmer food. Can’t fault the place
- Srey (5/5): Passable -
- Sophearoth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Quentin (10/5): I went there for peace and verdure, but I also found friends with the owners! Recommend 100%. - The owners are such a wonderful family! I had the chance to celebrate Pchum Ben with them and their friends, and the place is great and quiet (they created a real green natural environment), 10mn from the city center by motorbike. Food is very good and affordable.
Very typical stay!
- Verified traveler (10/5): lots of trees - good to get away from the city.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - La fraîcheur
Le calme la journée
Le bruit toute la nuit...
- Jane (10/5): - A lovely oasis away from the business of the city. Charming accomadation in a rural setting. Facilities are basic but lovely. The food is great too. Soon, who is a friend of the owner was our tuk tuk driver and guide for 2 days. He took us to a number of interesting places and really looked after us. Highly recommend Battambang Dream Bungalows and Soon as a guide!
