Guest Reviews
- Des (9/5): So good we will be back to explore the area a bit more. - The property was clean, the bedroom was excellent and was way better than hotels we have stayed in recently, the staff were attentive and the food delicious The bed was had a slightly harder mattress than I was used to but this was a small issue.
- lauren (9/5): Regular stay when I visit Warrington - The staff were so friendly Nothing
- Christine (8/5): Great locality, 5 minutes from M6. Food amazing and staff very helpful - A lovely village pub, very popular with the local community which is great to see. Bedroom and en suite very well put together and had a huge bath as well as separate shower.
- John (5/5): - Large room. Comfortable bed. Clean but tired in places.
Good bathroom. Happy with the room.
Location for work was great. Breakfast is poor. Little choice and definitely not value for money.
Some staff look miserable and bored. One was friendly but it definitely was just a patter rather than genuine.
- LESLEY (9/5): Excellent accommodation and restaurant, would definitely return. - Room was lovely, clean and extremely well presented. Excellent restaurant with extensive menu. Staff were very attentive and helpful.
- Bernard (10/5): - Everything was very clean, the staff were extremely helpful and the food was outstanding.
- James (10/5): -
- Ashley (10/5): Highly recommend. Would definitely choose to stay here. - So clean. Very friendly. Fantastic breakfast. Good sized room and bathroom. Easy parking. Great location. Saturday breakfast started at 9.00a.m. We would have preferred an earlier option, even 8.30a.m.
- Alexander (8/5): A comfortable EARLY night - Comfortable, good food and value for money We were eating our meal and at 9:00pm a member of staff indicated that the hotel was quiet and last orders were at 9:15 pm !
- Joanne (8/5): - Room was lovely, staff was lovely Breakfast was very basic limited choice for even a continental breakfast
- McLoughlin (6/5): Its a conveniently located hotel with well appointed rooms and good food. - The cooked breakfast was limited to sausage and bacon and offered in a sandwich. I requested poached eggs on brown toast with tomatoes and this was emphatically confirmed as not being available. Apart from the breakfast the rest of the stay was very satisfactory. The staff were very friendly in general.
- Laura (8/5): Friendly, warm and accommodating - Room was clean and well decorated. Staff were attentive and really friendly particularly the reception staff and manager as I’d forgotten my phone charger. There was a very noisy function on the Friday night which thankfully finished by 11. But we were in the room immediately after the stairwell and it was considerable. Breakfast on the weekends is served late and we had to miss the paid for cooked breakfast on the Sunday. However, the staff setting up for breakfast on the Saturday evening were extremely lovely and sorted a continental breakfast in a really polite and helpful way.
- Steve (10/5): Great stay booked last minute and was entertainment on including a meal so went for that option and was a really good ni - Great pub
Lovely food
Good entertainment
- Alonzo (8/5): Enjoyable. - Adequate facilities, clean and comfortable.
- Simon (8/5): - Nice location easy for motorway Room needed some bottled water.
No fridge
Shower was not great
- David (10/5): It’s good but not right. - Very comfortable, great restaurant and bar Staff were a bit unfriendly. I stay in many hotels due to travelling for work but didn’t get a warm welcome and on check out staff wouldn’t print of invoice, I had to chase to get invoice emailed .
- Alan Gaskell (7/5): Disappointing for the price - expected much better! - Room size (very large), decor and cleanliness were very good. Bar staff excellent. Bathroom: fan didn't work, mirror light not working, no toilet brush, only 1 hand towel, only 2 small tubes of shampoo & shower gel with a small soap. No moisturiser.
Room facilities: No water (for a superior room costing £170 B&B we expected much better), no tissues, had to turn TV off at wall switch as the remote power function did not work.
Breakfast: Food tepid to cold (mushrooms), only fruit available were slices of water melon & 2 pieces of tinned pineapple. Didn't see any yogurts? Overall breakfast selection was very poor.
- Patrick (9/5): - Delicious dinner and breakfast
- Rob (10/5): Relaxing, interesting and vaalue for money. - The location is quiet yet accessible from the motorway, making it an ideal location for travelling between the south and Scotland. The food, staff, and room were exceptional. Parking is easy. The Black Swan has a relaxed, efficient, and fun vibe. Rarely is a place spot on; the Black Swan is a rarity.

- William (10/5): Relaxed and friendly xx - It’s very relaxed and homely xx Everything was fine.
- Sue (10/5): Lovely location very pleasant - The hotel was beautiful and clean a lovely comfortable bedroom with everything you needed

- Simon (9/5): - Excellent room & welcoming staff All ok
- David (8/5): -
- Colin (8/5): -
- Trevor (8/5): All good👍🏻 - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- Vincent (10/5): - The venue and the location
- Simon (9/5): Overall very good - Breakfast was a bit meager A bit more on the plate like black pudding
- Jorge (9/5): If ever I am around that area again, will certainly look at staying at the Black Swan again. - Really nice, clean rooms, with some furniture that did look sturdy and well made. The mattress was superb, very firm. Usually I have issues sleeping on a new bed, and I slept like a baby. Nice breakfast in the morning, with, again a very good looking restaurant area. Shower could have done with a bit more power. Lack of A/C, although there was a fan in the wardrobe.
- Robert (9/5): -
- Raine (10/5): What a gem! - There is lots to like about The Black Cat: Lovely garden with an outdoor bar; large, comfy & immaculate rooms; friendly & helpful staff; great food & drink. An absolute gem - we will definitely stay again. Nothing. It's perfect.
- Roy (6/5): Could be very good hotel but spoilt by simple inadequacies! - Very nice large room with comfortable bed. Nice meal in the restaurant I had booked and paid for a twin room but on arrival I was made to pay an extra £25 for a sofa bed. Despite me trying to explain this was not acceptable they persisted in charging me!
Breakfast was quite poor - it the sort of place where you expect a full English but there was only the choice of a very mediocre bacon or sausage sandwich. Pastries were stale and inedible!
- Colin (5/5): average , food v poor - clean food
- Paul (8/5): - Very friendly Nothing
- Julie (8/5): - Park and nice location food on the whole was good good service and clean comfortable room with not much noise from other guests
- Katie (10/5): -
- Pam (5/5): Location great but bed and breakfast not so good - The staff were very friendly. Food at dinner really good The mattress was very hard, not much sleep.then woken up by deliveries. Cooked breakfast was luke warm, half a bacon rasher. Croissants available burnt. Only half the toaster was working.
- margerita (10/5): -
- Joanne (9/5): - The staff were excellent,
Very clean, lovely warm rooms, continental breakfast included, and a choice of bacon or sausage sandwiches. Which are very tasty.
Excellent value for money Its in a small village, but has a bus route outside
- M (9/5): -
- Denis (9/5): - Una strutturo nella campagna di Manchester con un Pub sottostante. Camere spaziose e pulite.
- Rhiannon (7/5): Nice place with relaxing ambience but get rid of the air fresheners - The cooked breakfast when available was nice
The room was quiet and they provided a fan
The windows in the bedroom opened and it was possible to turn the radiator and heated towel rail off
The room was very clean
There were ample power sockets including next to both sides of the bed
They have proper keys not electronic card things
This is a really nice historic building that has been modernised without removing all of its historic feel
There are ducks and a large pond out the back which you can sit by and relax There was an air freshener on the wall in the bathroom that was so strong it made me get a headache and feel sick, I had to wrap a plastic bag around it to try and reduce the awful chemical smell it was emitting but I still couldnt stop it. I was looking forward to a bath but decided I couldnt because the smell in the bathroom was so strong it was making me feel ill. People should not have to have these things in their room.
There was a smoke detector on the ceiling in the bedroom which constantly flashed a bright light all night.
The bed was extremely hard; I appreciate this is a matter of choice but personally being used to a soft bed, it was like sleeping on a stone slab.
There was only a cooked breakfast at weekends and that didnt start until 9am which was quite late: too late if you have an event starting at the same time.
The continental breakfast did not include any cold meats or cheeses.
- keith (8/5): -
- Alonzo (8/5): Very enjoyable. - Pleasant decor. Conveniently situated. Good food. Clean room. The only thing wrong was the TV remote didn’t work and we couldn’t change the channel.
- Geoffrey (8/5): Enjoyab”e overnight stay - Parking, room cleanliness, restaurant on site Room size and design,
- Sue (7/5): - Very clean and fresh Nothing in particular
- David (7/5): Pleasant environment, good service. - Breakfast was good, better than advertised, which was a problem on day 1 because I filled up on cereal not expecting an additional bacon sandwich, offered during breakfast (very nice). Although not included in the price, the evening meals were very nice. In the room there is what I assumed to be a smoke detector that has a green led that flashes every few seconds or so. While not a problem while the room is illuminated, when awake at night the flashes were at times quite startling. Room TV had wrong remote, had to use control on TV itself.
- Jessie (7/5): -
- Paul stott (8/5): -
- Jamieson (10/5): Second visit will be back again - Rooms are lovely staff are amazing and food is outstanding N/A

Rooms very clean. The rock hard bed.

- Gary (8/5): - Big room... spotlessly clean 👌 . Nice big bath . Food was below par for the money. Not the best breakfast either . Bar closed at 10pm!! No real shower gel just 2 tiny bottles
- doody (10/5): - Lovely people and very friendly would love to stay there again Nothing
- Simon (9/5): - Good, helpful staff

- Susan (9/5): A truly wonderful experience. We will definitely be going back. - The staff were so friendly and acccomodating. We were made to feel very welcome.
Our room was beautiful and exceeded our expectations.
The view on both sides of the room wasn't great but that wasn't a problem for us.
The food was good quality and a fair value for money. The limited healthy options on the main menu
The noise from the bar quiz could be heard clearly in our room
- John (8/5): -
- Thomas (10/5): Great customer service ,first class -
- Wendy (10/5): -
- Jenny (7/5): Very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast lets it down. Pastries look as though they were not fresh the same with the - Nice clean modern room Breakfast
- Alistair (8/5): - It was fine for a single night reasonably close to MAN airport. Breakfast could have been better.
- Penny (9/5): Very comfortable - Very good Shower was a bit weak
- Rebecca (10/5): Excellent value and location - Really pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff and great price for rooms. Really clean too! Maybe amend breakfast times as we had to leave at 7am, although they were accommodating and provided us some food to take with us the night before!

- Kareena (9/5): - Friendly staff and the hotel felt warm, welcoming and friendly . would stay here again
- kerron (10/5): - the room was perfect for my friends family and they thoroughly enjoyed the stay the only thing i didnt like was that the booking was for my friend and not for myself as the room was amazing
- Gillian (7/5): Ok but not worth the money - The breakfast could have had fruit and yoghurt it was all very sparse. The bathroom had a bath that was not easy to get in and out of and there was no anti-slip mat for the bath when you wanted to shower.
- Gillian (10/5): Lovely place - Beautiful rooms N/a
- John (9/5): Fine. - Bathroom and bar Aircon didn't work, used 'window' as backup.
- Allison (10/5): A lovely stay in lovely accomodation - The food was, excellent and staff were helpful and accommodating throughout.
The rooms were spacious ,comfortable and beautifully decorated, with excellent facilities
