- Jacqueline (9/5): Great accommodation in a great location - Great location in the centre of Hathersage. The room was clean and spacious, great shower and comfortable bed. Breakfast was buffet style with great local produce. The hotel has been recently refurbished great place to stay and excellent value for the money. Nothing
- Karl (9/5): -
- Jason (8/5): - Food was excellent Rooms clean towels and linen, but floor was very dirty.

- Joan (10/5): Overnight stay in Hathersage - The surroundings, the hotel central and very nice . Menue could have been a little better
- Emma (10/5): -
- John Biggs (9/5): Great value hotel in a super location. - Great value hotel in a perfect location. Staff and service were excellent. The breakfast was a buffet and to be honest most of the food was barely warm.
- Esther (7/5): Would stay again, will be very smart once redecoration work finished. - Great location, nice breakfast, friendly staff. Great to see Fairtrade coffee etc in the room, cans of sparkling water very much appreciated. The accommodation was in the process of being redecorated. I’m sure it will be lovely once it’s done. Currently the bathroom door wouldn’t close, had no lock and we had to use the waste bin to prop it shut.
- Mariana Muñoz (8/5): Good destination - The location in the city considering the activities within Peak District. Rooms were spacious, confortable. Breakfast included.
Nice to have a bar/restaurant downs stairs. I was expecting more warm welcoming from the staff, considering a highly turistic destination. First impression not so good. They were not capable of indicate directions either...
- Nicholas (8/5): Overnight stay during a week long walk around the Peaks. - We experienced a mix up with the room bookings we had made, due to a recent change of ownership. The new manager went to great effort to resolve the problem for us and compensate us for the trouble. This resulted in us having a very positive feeling about the inn and its new management, despite the issue, which I'm sure was purely due to the transition between owners.
The rooms have all been smartly refurbished and are very comfortable. The breakfast was great (buffet style). The inn is perfectly located in Hathersage.

- Lynn (10/5): Nice area, town and accommodation for hiking - Ideal base for hiking in the area, good food at the pub, good breakfast, lots other places to eat in the village as well All ok
- Robert (8/5): A good hotel in a lovely village, ideal for exploring the Peaks - The room was a good size. It was well stocked with tea, coffee, biscuits. The sound proofing was good given that the hotel is part of a working pub. Breakfast was pretty good. We also had an evening meal and beer in the pub and that was all good. Helpful to be able leave our bags before check-in. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Haversage is lovely village. Haversage has a heated open air swimming pool. I asked before we arrived whether we could hire a couple of towels as travelling around on public transport on this break and we had no room for them. The answer was a no from the hotel because towels had been damaged or taken in the past. There seems a missed opportunity there to link up with the pool and promote it as an attraction for people to stay in Haversage, maybe ask for a deposit when hiring out towels to swim.
It was a bit difficult to find staff (who were clearly busy and working hard) at breakfast to ask for breakfast items that had run out.
In the room there were two steps into the shower room and loo. The steps were different heights which was a bit disorientating although it is an old building and I appreciate there will be constraints on how rooms can be refurbished for the hotel.
Might be good to have some information in the room about local walks and amenities.
- Petrina (6/5): Good in parts. Staff as helpful as possible. Generally a bit disappointed especially as the place has been recently reno - Good location. Friendly reception from the bar. Very noisy until the early hours. The bed was uncomfortable with very lumpy duvet and pillows. The toilet seemed dirty or stained. The extraction fan was not working and there was mould on the bathroom ceiling and in the shower. The shower gel was empty. The radiator valve fell off when trying to reduce the temperature. We were told breakfast was 8 to 9.30 am and got down at 0905 to find that things were being cleared away, and only remnants of breakfast were available. The hot food was congealed and lukewarm. There was little milk and no butter, bread or bacon. . There was. I vegetarian alternative for cooked breakfast. The dog welcome pack (which was a lovely idea) was given to us just before we left the next morning.
- Simon (8/5): Always a great location, friendly staff and the food is brilliant in 2026 - Location in Hathersage for our rock climbing trip. The pies on the menu are brilliant. Parking good and safe. Loxley Cottage is very snug in the twin rooms with minimum space between the bed.
- Christine (8/5): -
- Stoopott (8/5): -
- David (8/5): A great stay in the little john and Hathersage - I've stayed here before so I knew it was good. It's smack bang in the centre of Hathersage with good bus and train routes. The room was spacious and the bathroom excellent. The tv was an amazon stick so you have to sign in for live tv and the remote had dead batteries. Also, coffee and tea was not restocked. It was very readily supplied though on asking. The breakfast was plentiful but basic. Car park space is limited to 12 vehicles.
- Tracy (8/5): Good base for Hathersage. Facilities and accommodation good but parking limited - I liked the accommodation - it was clean and met our needs - location also very good. There is limited parking and no permit for guests so that was tricky especially with luggage and a pet. Breakfast offer was good but not much on display
- Jamie (9/5): -
- Neil (10/5): - Excellent location, very clean lovely breakfast That we only stopped for one night
- Holly (7/5): - Great location and easy for transport if travelling by foot or train. Room was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Good dinner and breakfast options! Staff were very friendly and helpful! Staying in a pub one always expects a little more noise than other hotels. However, we were woken by a very loud delivery lorry clearing empty glass and reversing a lorry at 5am, and there was very loud music coming from the bar until quite late. Large skylight in the room also has no blind
- Duncan (10/5): -
- Stoopott (8/5): - Nice sized room, great shower, fab breakfast.
- Derek (7/5): Convenient for a short stay in the Peak District. - Location good, room large, quiet, helpful staff. A little more attention to details could have made the stay better, e.g., features in the room, supervision of breakfast arrangements.
- Emma (6/5): The staff were helpful and pleasant and the breakfast was good as was the location and the restaurant looked good but th - The staff; the breakfast and the location. Whilst we don’t eat in the restaurant, it looked good. The room. A very small and dark en suite bathroom with poor extraction and so it was wet and hot and didn’t feel fresh at all (though the shower was great). The room was pokey at best; very little storage; very little space to put bags and suitcases and no circulation space around the bed.
- Susan (10/5): Fabulous break at the Little John - We had a really warm welcome on arrival. Were shown to our room, which was light, beautiful, spotlessly clean and mega comfy. Had great service in the bar that evening and breakfast was a super buffet. Would definitely recommend.
- peter (5/5): Lovely pub spoiled by awful breakfast experience - Recently refurbished to a high standard. Large bedrooms with comfy bed and large screen TV. Excellent bathroom with modern shower. We have stayed here before quite recently. Before leaving The owner asked us for our review. We explained the buffet breakfast was very disappointing. Apart from only cold plates being available the food was Luke warm, food bacon and sausage trays had not been replenished. No table available so we set our own.
Obviously the managers do not take on board reviews because on this visit the breakfast provided was exactly the same. No table set up. Used tables not cleared. No warm plates. Food appeared to have been out for long time. All food was Luke warm at best. Food trays not replenished. Had to ask the one member of staff on duty for additional fresh food and juices.
Overall breakfast is a shambles and really spoils the stay at this otherwise fine establishment. They need to address these issues because such poor service will turn guests away.
- Dave (6/5): -
- Heather (8/5): Great accommodation, don’t bother with the breakfast. - Atmosphere and friendliness. Great bar food, great location and lovely staff. Had to ask for more tea bags and milk as only 3 for a two night stay. Early morning noise from bottle bins and delivery. Breakfast was a massive disappointment. Breakfast was until 9.30, arrived at 8.50. No sausages, bacon, yogurt or prepared fruit. No fruit juice, no clean/ cleared tables. Food luke warm . Toaster took about 10 minutes.
- Severine (6/5): - Large room, good location. No blinders, even on the skylight window. On arrival the floor wasn t clean, coffee spot, dust, hairs...I asked for a cleaning which they did immediately, snd offereda drink while I was waiting .
- Lisa (8/5): Clean, comfy with parking and easy access to other places - Location was excellent, hotel was good. There were building works going on that we hadn't known about when booking. The proprietor gave us vouchers for breakfast at their sister property, unfortunately they didn't start serving until 9.30am and I had was on a course that started at 8.45am so I was unable to access this. My partner had the breakfast and said it was good.
- Debi (5/5): - Convenience of location to friends.
Friendly evening staff. The bed was uncomfortably too soft.
The bathroom steps were a liability.
Very noisy with window open even slightly.
Breakfast self service was inefficient for staff walking all around from kitchen to service area.
The overall cleanliness was very dusty, floor, stairs and other surfaces.
- David (7/5): Peak District hiker - The location is ideal. Good shower and my room was clean. Canned water and tea provided. Breakfast was average but okay. My TV did not work.
- Roberts (10/5): Great place to stay with dog - Gorgeous location ideal for dogs Breakfast was a bit of a shambles and don’t have Calvery evening time as they ran out of food at 7 so only got half a meal which was disappointing
- colin (9/5): -
- Anita (8/5): Great place to stay in the centre of Hathersage with all the facilities for an enjoyable stay. - Great location for exploring Hathersage and area. Free parking on site. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good reasonably priced food menu in the pub and free cooked breakfast buffet. Comfy bed and soft towels. Great shower!
- Adeline (8/5): -
- Angela (7/5): A stay in the peak district - Comfortable bed in the centre of the village Breakfasts linited in choice and left to dry up
- Steph (9/5): Great location, good food, friendly pub - Newly refurbished. Friendly and helpful staff
- Mike (9/5): - Friendly and helpful staff.
Lovely bar.
Good beer and food. Bedroom was a little dated, but very clean and comfortable.
- 張秀霞 (10/5): -
- Garry (9/5): -
- Anežka (9/5): - the location is nice. the staff was all very friendly (mostly young people). when i arrived there was jist one person to take care of the pub and the hotel, but i waited only for s fes moments before being shown to my room
i appreciate the spacious bathroom and gooddies to have with your tea in the room
breakfast was full english and it was alright
i had dinner at the pub downstairs and it was as good as English cuisine can be
when i am back in the area, i am coming back to stay at this place thr flooring in my room was past its fine days and the bed was too soft for my back
there was some maintenance going on when i arrived (painting the starcaise) and the tools (and the surrounding mess) stayed there untouched throughout my whole stay
i would welcome some other kind of tea besides black for breakfast, but thats really a minir issue
- Tore (9/5): Just great for us -
- Hannah (9/5): -
- lynne (10/5): Lovely, homely cottage - Cottage ideally positioned for a short break in the Peaks. Comfortable accommodation with everything you need. Great food in the hotel.
- Adam (8/5): We have been coming to the Peak District for a number of years but the Little John was our best stay - The staff were helpful and friendly and the newly refurbished pub is looking great. It is in an ideal situation for walking. Perhaps a more varied breakfast menu would be good. As a non-meat eater, I would have liked a fresh roll and may be cheese. The continental breakfast option would be good. However what was on offer was nicely cooked.
- Monika (8/5): - Great location and friendly staff That the front door were closed in the evening when we returned to the hotel.
- Ruth (9/5): Overall very good - Our room was clean and spacious Music was very loud and past midnight , which was a little annoying
- David (8/5): The premises are very well presented and is attractive. Good atmosphere and I would happily return. - Breakfast is a buffet style. Can become a bit congested when busy. Variety and quality was good. Good bar area. The room was bright and airy with good equipment and very comfortable bed. The shower and toilet in the room I had necessitates stepping up from the room. I didn't have an accident but I think someone infirm or with mobility issues could have a problem.
- Williams (9/5): -
- Simon (8/5): -
- Penny (10/5): Smart comfortable cottage. - Really comfortable, great shower, well equipped. A really nicely organised house. We arrived soaked from a long walk from Sheffield. It was really easy to dry our gear and we were made very welcome in the pub next door. Nothing
- Stephen James (9/5): Perfect for our needs. - Location, good cheerful service, altogether good fun. Nothing
- Fiona (10/5): Lovely stay. Great comfort and value for money. Very dog friendly. - Great location. Lovely room with large windows and views. Very welcoming for dogs.
Second time staying here and great to see the refurbishment.
- Denise (10/5): Super dog friendly hotel and pub - On arrival the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The bedroom was super clean and there was plenty of tea, coffee, milk (including oat milk) and biscuits. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. There was also plenty of space for a dog bed if you bring your dog. The bathroom had really nice quality hand and body wash and the shower worked well. The breakfast included was very nice, everything you could wish for in a cooked breakfast. They will do vegan sausages on request which again were lovely quality. It’s all serve yourself and everything was kept topped up. The hotel is very dog friendly which was fantastic. It also has its own car park. The bedroom floor was just plain floorboards without a rug which was a little cold in the evening but I certainly wouldn’t mark the hotel down for that.
- Rosemary (10/5): -
- James (10/5): Really great room - Really liked our room and breakfast was spot on. Nothing all was good
- Mark (6/5): It was acceptable for what was an overnight stay but don’t think I would want to stay there for a longer stay - Where situated was very convenient. Lively and friendly bar close to centre of Hathersage the railway station and good walks Room was too hot and no ability to turn down heating Noisy corridor door banging all night. Breakfast was very average whilst we went towards the end of service food was sparse and only Luke warm. Certainly a friendly lively bar in the evenings
- Agnieszka (10/5): - Lovely and cozy apartament with big kitchen Nothing
- Sara (5/5): Great location for walking - Location excellent. Room spacious. Bathroom clean and spacious. Pub attached very basic, toilets dirty. Not such a great welcome..had messaged about possible earlier arrival..told ok. On arrival we're asked to pay £25 then let off grudgingly Breakfast not good value. Very basic. Staff disappeared..tomato ketchup 'to order'
- Malcolm (6/5): Disappointing - The room was clean and the towels were great The evening meal was not what was described in. The menu. No leek in the pie.
The breakfast was not hot
- Michelle (8/5): -
- Claire (7/5): - Big room but bed was quite small for a double, location was good . Buffet style breakfast and was very cold, no glasses for juice had to ask for some to be brought out, no coffee was ready has to wait a long time, service in general for breakfast was not good.
- Owen (9/5): A traditional pub style in offering excellent service, good value and a premium location. - My friend, his dog and I are on a motorcycle tour to Scotland and chose the hotel for is great location in the heart of the village and easy access to excellent local riding roads.
All the staff were really friendly and welcoming, making our stay most enjoyable. The bar area and adjoining rooms have recently been tastefully refurbished, whilst still retaining the character and open fires.
We ate in the bar and can highly recommend the chicken and tarragon pie, which can be washed down with a good choice of beers. Breakfast was buffet style with a good choice of cereals and freshly cooked options.
We felt the hotel exceeded our expectations and was excellent value. There is nothing to dislike.
- Amy (8/5): Great central location in a beautiful village - Location
Spacious room
Warm welcome Room needed some decor TLC
Mugs were not clean in room
& Breakfast under stocked
- Foster (7/5): Another great stay here good value for money pleasant staff - The location it is nicely nestled in Hathersage and serves a buffet style help yourself breakfast the rooms are cleab with a lovely large shower the 4-o clock late check in It would have been nice if this was a little earlier but staff did try their best
- LozMartin (10/5): Relaxing, enjoyable and much needed. - Very friendly welcome from Jesse, informative and helpful. Room was lovely could open windows. Breakfast - plenty to eat excellent quality sausages and bacon. Relaxing If I had to say something, then the key was a bit fiddly to open the room door. But it is no big deal just petty.
- MariaPlaynicely (10/5): Lovely hotel. Great location. - Clean, comfortable bed, great bathroom/shower. Friendly staff. Easy check in. Lovely hotel.
- karla (10/5): - The new look NA
- Krissie I (9/5): Great stay - Graham was very responisve over message before my stay and he made sure I could check in promptly. I was upgraded to a fabulous spacious room which was a nice surprise. There were towels, toiletries, and coffee/tea making facilities in the room.
The location is great and the hotel is newly refurbished. A few small suggestions/comments: it was a bit tricky to adjust the shower temperature, the bedside lamp is really dim, and there are no convenient plugs to charge phone etc near the bed. However, these are vert small inconveniences. Overall, a great stay!
- Anthony (8/5): -
- Zachary (8/5): -
- Raymond (10/5): - Large room that was clean & very comfortable We only had 1 night
- Katharine (10/5): Cosy, comfortable, clean! - We stayed in Squires Cottage and it was perfect for 3 friends and a dog. Had everything you needed and the staff responded quickly to questions. This is perfect for people using public transportation or those who like more going on. It’s not a quiet retreat in a field.
- Tony (5/5): - The pub is newly furbished, the staff were friendly. Good breakfast. The village is lovey and its a good base for walking. On arrival, there seemed to be no area to check in except at the bar, which was extremely busy and loud. Had to queue 15 mins to be seen. The chap was very friendly and helpful and showed me to my room. Once there, there was no key and I waited another 10 mins whilst the chap went off to investigate. It turned out my room had been swapped for another. The room was ok, but very tired and needs decorating. The floor bounced, which is obviously causing the laminated flooring to fall apart. There's a skylight in the ceiling above the bed, with no blinds, so you are woken up when the sun comes up. There's no WiFi in the accommodation area, and parking is tricky due to lack of spaces and it being used by pub customers. It's a good pub but too busy. In the end, I opted to leave and not to stay the 2nd night despite paying for two nights and moved to another location.
- Kate (9/5): -
- john (10/5): Great escape with the two dogs, enjoying the lovely area with some some great friendly service at the Little John. - Great location and it has just had a total refurb. It’s been done really nice & has a nice feel about it. Nothing not too like in my opinion.
- Michael (9/5): Great location, wonderful staff - would recommend - Staff were very attentive and helpful. There was a little disruption due to building work and they arranged for us to have breakfast up the road, and gave us a voucher to use in light of the inconvenience. Shower was excellent too If I was being fussy I'd say the bed is a bit on the small side for two people, but that's it
- Iain (10/5): Great staff. Great food and drink . Great location. - Great facilities and in the centre of the village . Nothing to dislike . It’s fantastic
- Ewelina (10/5): -
- Keith (4/5): Very disappointing, not good value - Nothing Whilst we were advised that renovation work was underway we did not expect to be unable to access or leave the car park without several vans being moved and substantial inconvenience. The room was very dirty and badly maintained (dust and dirt not building dirt). There was no mirror in the room so we recovered one from the rubbish outside and took it in. Floor , walls all chipped and damaged. No where to place the shower gel. Generally very tired. Bedding was spotless as were the plentiful towels. Roof skylight had no blind meaning the room was very light very early. The breakfast at their other property was excellent. Whilst we were given a £10 voucher for the inconvenience, to be used at their other property, the room was not value for money.
- Chloe-marie (8/5): - Good location, big bathroom Breakfast wasn’t great, no proper tea or coffee, just the same as in your room.
The bed was awful, mine had no springs in the bottom half
- Ian (6/5): -
- Rebecca (9/5): -
- Rhea (9/5): -
- Gordon (10/5): - Really nice place, newly refurbished and good quality. Friendly welcome.
- Maximilian (8/5): - Great location for a short visit in the lake district. Really nice breakfast. Could have done with a room for wet and dirty walking gear. I felt bad for getting mud in some of the days. Staff though never said anything or had any problems with walkers. Always felt very welcome!
