- Greory (10/5): - I stayed nine days and enjoyed it there..I met so many Japanese travellers everyone was in high spirits maybe because golden week or maybe just stoked to be out in nature..the only bummer was when some French arrived and droned on in the common area loudly till late, annoying everyone….at least some things are constant wherever you go in the world..apart from that everyone was so respectful and I highly recommend
- Emilie Lanxe (10/5): Our host was so nice. She told us everything about the busses. She was so sweet - It was close to the bus stop
- Juan Sebastian (7/5): Excellent location with excellent staff. But if you want more privacy go other place. - The attention from the staff was amazing! She was very helpful and very kind. The rooms are separated by a wall that doesn’t reach the ceiling so you can hear all the noises around

- Sebastian (8/5): -
- Omer (6/5): - The place is near the center of anbo close to the bus station and resturants.
The showers toilets and common room are nice The rooms are realy small, not fited for 4 persons, I did not recive bed sheets or pillow covers which mean the people before me also did not recive so the feeling is not clean and as a backpacker I am not traveling with sheets.
For the price of 4000 yen seems abit pricy
- Dominic (9/5): - Einfach aber alles nötige. Super freundliches Personal und perfekt für Wanderausflüge Das W-Lan funktioniert nicht gut. Aber man sollte eh lieber die schöne Natur geniessen

- ROMAN (8/5): Good choice to stay on Yakushima - I enjoyed my stay at Yukaina Nakamatachi. The hostel location is good: you can take a bus nearby to get to the airport or to the Arakawa trail. The personnel are polite, and all the amenities have been provided. Price/Quality ratio met my expectations. You can also pay for the bento to be stored for you early in the morning in the cooler bag if you set off to the Arakawa trail, for example. None! Everything met my expectations.

- Patterson (10/5): Great location and a greater host. - The owner was so sweet and kind. She really made the stay special. We were able to buy freshly made bentos for our hike early in the morning and it was quite delicious, filling and cheap.
- ジョッシュ (8/5): I very much enjoyed my stay here. - Great location: near to bus stops, Anbo Port, supermarket and eateries. Friendly staff, very willing to help plan and figure out transport: which is a little complex in Yakushima. Does not have a stove. Bathroom is a little inconvenient as shower units are not large enough to bring towel or clothing inside.
- Bluhumana (5/5): Passable - Dryer doesn't work
- Kaho (10/5): Exceptional - The female dorm room was pretty new and very clean. I liked the curtain on the side of the bed that gave me privacy. Coming out of the mountains after spending 3 nights in huts, this hostel couldn't have been more luxurious, with warm shower and own bed. The extra wash basin in female dorm room was great. The bathtub was tiny to have a shower but still functional. It was the only spot that I thought it could be cleaner.
- Anna (8/5): Good deal esp for solo travelers! - Great deal for the price point! Good location in Anbo right off the main street, close to several restaurants, appreciated the parking spots provided as well as the option for early morning bento for hikes. Dorm style housing which I expected - good setup for a solo traveler like me! I didn’t love that folks staying here smoked right outside the main door at the top of the stairs (but I also forgot how much folks smoke in Japan)
- James (8/5): Very good -
- Lin (8/5): Very good - Location Need to bring your own shampoo and body soap.
- Thomas (3/5): Overpriced - Location Check-in until 6pm only. Very overpriced for what was offered. Only separators between "rooms", no proper walls.
- Ludmila (9/5): Good for the price - It was located in central Anbo, close to everything else. The lady (owner?) was really sweet. It was clean Shower was a bit small and the shower curtain kept sticking to me, which was a bit discomforting. The bed wasn't that comfy, the futon was a bit thin
- Pierre (9/5): Superb - Really great place to explore Yakushima from Anbo by bus or car. Especially for the Jōmon Sugi trail and Yakusugi Land.
- Andreas (6/5): Great place if you're looking for a place to rest your head and have the basics. - Friendly and helpful host, good location. Easy access to shops and restaurants, right next to the bus service and close to a tourism office. Great location central to multiple points of interests, showers warm and good pressure. A/C worked well. Cleanliness a little lacking, but not where it mattered.
Showers, toilets and kitchen area were very clean.
2 cubicle style toilets and showers in a shared rooms.
Spotty wifi service, would benefit from a booster closer to the rooms.
- Hayes (9/5): Superb - great location but limited facilities. kitchen only has microwave and kettle, but super close to the supermarket and easy to access all the hikes aroun. also lots of restaurants near by that are well priced.
- Malla (8/5): Clean hostel for backpackers with a good location. - Good enough hostel for backpackers, who mainly need a place for sleeping. Very helpful staff. Washing machine and dryer was very cheap to use. Lunch box service was a nice bonus. There's no stove in the kitchen.
- Nadia (7/5): Good - Great location, right near the bus stop. I was mostly in the room alone, only one other person on 2 nights. Fantastic bento service if you are on an early morning hike. Bathroom appeared to be refreshed everyday but it did still seem a bit dirty but I think its just old. A town alarm or something like a tune goes off at like 6am very loud and near the hostel so wakes you. I was in the women's dorm which was a separate room, but otherwise if you were in the other 'rooms' they are not real rooms and the walls do not go to the ceiling and this is open to the common area and kitchen space. Which makes it difficult if you are leaving early in the morning and are trying to eat or pack. Kitchen had no soap the entire time and provides hot water but there are no cups, plates or cutlery available. If you are hoping to cook, there is no stove. Strict check in times from 3pm to 6pm only
- Joanna (8/5): A nice, clean and spacious backpackers hostel, thank you -
- Blong (7/5): Good - Good location, friendly and helpful staff. The facilities are extremely basic and the cleanliness in the toilets and showers was very average.
- Ari (9/5): Superb -
- Julien (5/5): Too expensive for what it is - - confortable
- close to harbour, bus station and supermarket
- curtains next to bed - check-in between 3pm and 6pm, very unpractical given the buses timetables on the island
- nothing available for cooking except a microwave
- no free coffee or tea (so you’ll go on your trek at 5 or 6 without it if you didn’t bring any)
- walls are not walls, they don’t go all the way up to the roof. When someone comes at 3am and lights his room, you’ll get his (neon) light to wake you up! (And if someone snores you’ll be happy to enjoy it whichever room you are)
- Yusuke (9/5): Superb -
- Matan (9/5): Big comfy beds - The bunk beds are huge, with room to sit up even if you are a tall foreigner. The mattress is very comfortable.
Check out is easy: leave everything on the bad and go.
For a price when ordered in advance, they will prepare you a box lunch for you to take the next morning when go out hiking! No soundproofing or lightproofing between rooms, so I recommend earplugs and eye mask to help you sleep if you are a light sleeper.
Anbo is not the best location unless you take the ferry from there instead of the north port.
- Farhan (7/5): Good -
- Jonne (9/5): Superb -
- Andy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Viivi (9/5): Superb - cheap and good laundry!
- Matilda (10/5): Short but very welcome - Really wide and clean comfortable beds. Friendly hosts and nice people I was sharing a room with.
- Flippity (6/5): Extremely basic, serviceable - Anbo is a small town, and the hostel is located above the main junction, next to the bus stops and across the bridge from the kayak rental. It's a good location.
The bed itself was pretty comfortable and although there weren't any lockers, the 6-bed room only had maximum of 3 people in it, so we were able to keep things next to our beds. I was allowed to keep my luggage late on check-out.
The shower had good pressure and the laundry was cheap and efficient (100 yen for 60 minutes wash/dry, 50 yen for detergent from the shop downstairs). There is no kitchen; there's a hot water dispenser and a fridge. Some pictures showed a microwave, but that's not there. There are no cups, plates, cutlery etc. so you'll have to bring your own.
I was in the female dorm, which had floor-ceiling walls, but the other rooms had a large gap at the top. As such, it didn't feel as if you could make noise in the 'kitchen' area without disturbing people.
The bunk bed had a curtain for privacy, but this did not extend all the way around the bed, so when the light was on it was still quite bright.
- Shaune (8/5): Very good -
- Travelworld17 (8/5): Very good - It was easy to find from the bus stop and in a central location. The beds were comfortable and spacious. The walls between rooms weren't blocking the sound so my alarm woke up another customer.
- Kabayero (7/5): Good -
- Gabriel (9/5): Superb -
- Zamfir (9/5): Superb - Basic but clean, very conveniently located next to Anbo bus stop, good place to socialize as a solo traveler and get tips from other guests. The check-in hours are quite restrictive, 15 to 18.
- Leonard (9/5): Perfect for backpackers - Good showers (good water pressure and heat), nice staff, familiar atmosphere, super cheap and good location, plus I got a room for myself. Limited space, no lockers, not a lot of privacy
- Mojca (10/5): Exceptional - Very kind welcome, the rooms are clean and beds comfortable. Pro tip: brealfast and bento boxes from a place across the street. There were not many kitchen amenities, we wers missing mugs, plates and cutlery.
- Nathaniel (8/5): Very good - Owner was super helpful; they helped me plan my hiking outing and arrange for food (all in Japanese though). Everything else was pretty standard.
- Te (8/5): Very good -
- Christoph (5/5): Good location but uncomfortable and more or less dirty rooms - good location in the center and near a bus stop Dirty facilities, matrices with stains, the whole black is basically one big room with subdividing walls which do not reach the ceiling. Hence, if the light in the common area is switched on, all rooms are lit up.
- Viktoriia (7/5): It was good and comfortable, but we have a little trouble with cooking - There a lot of restaurants near the hostel, so it is convenient. The room are equipped with fridge, washing and drying machine. Also, there are sorting garbage cans, which are also convenient. The hostel has “shared kitchen”, which is hard to called kitchen, cause there are only electric kettle and microwave. We expected there would be a little cooker or at least dishes and cutlery. So if you don’t want or don’t have money to eat at restaurants , it will problem with cooking by yourself.
- Nancy (9/5): Great place on a budget! - Very friendly and helpful staff, spacious room, good location, good facilities, easy setup. A longer check-in time would be good, plus some shower gel/shampoo/conditioner!
- Lucas (6/5): Pleasant - Very helpful staff with many services available (like lunch for the trekkings for instance) Open rooms with zero privacy and coverage of the light. Weird dirty bathrooms.
- Jhyheng (10/5): Exceptional - Anbo is a very convenient hub for hikers, this hostel is just next to the bus stop.
- Paulo (7/5): Good - It is a very convenient dormitory close to many hikes and trips. The staff is friendly. For the price a very good place to stay.
- Xenia (7/5): Cozy hostel stay with a couple of little things I had to look out for. - Had all the amenities you'd need at a hostel, and it was a bonus that I was the only one in the female dormitory at the time. Right on top of a restaurant with a couple more nearby and within walking distance across the river. The hostess was lovely, even though I was checking in late. Did have a couple of ants around the dormitory table and on my bed, but I moved my pillow to the opposite side of the mattress and were no longer an issue. My adapter also couldn't fit in the narrow power plug because it's one of the boxy, universal adapters so I used a nearby power plug instead.
- Giulio (9/5): Great - The host went above and beyond in their kindness and hospitality, creating a warm and welcoming environment. Their genuine care and thoughtfulness made my stay truly memorable. I was incredibly grateful for their assistance and the way they made me feel at home. Their friendly demeanor and helpful nature added an extra level of comfort to my experience. I can confidently say that the host's kindness and welcoming nature greatly enhanced my overall stay. Nothing.
- Marta (10/5): Good hostel for hiking - I stayed in the ladies dorm that has own shower and toilet. Room was ok in size, beds also ok. Shower was a bit dated and needs some repair, but perfectly usable. Shower curtains need changing or cleaning. Hostel had good backpacking atmosphere and plenty to people to chat with, but of course depends on other travellers. Despite some need for repairs and more cleaning, I'd definitely pick it again. Location in Anbo was perfect for all 3 trails, Shiratani Unsuikyo, Jomonsugi and Yakusugiland (closer to the last two, so I felt it was more efficient). Supermarket is 8-10 mins away. Good izakaya Awaho with decently priced set meals is nearby, I highly recommend it, the manager is a bit monosyllabic but she warms up quickly.
- David (8/5): Very good - The reception is in the burger restaurant! Only a sign in Japanese to tell it.
- Jo77777 (7/5): Good - It's cheap and in Aso which makes transport by bus a lot easier (especially if using the high speed ferry to Anbo). If you only have a short stay on the island, stay either in Anbo or Miyanoura. The shower curtain was absolutely disgusting. Hot water only, no cooking facilities or cutlery. No shampoo etc which makes it the only place I've stayed in 3 months in Japan that didn't provide it.
- Sil (8/5): Very good -
- Maria (7/5): Good -
