Guest Reviews
- Felix (8/5): Great value for money - Breakfast was excellent, staff very friendly. Could have done with a fan in the room as it was a bit warm.
- Smith (9/5): - Very well equipped room, with quality ensuite. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Happy to accommodate my dog and with access to the garden. Lovely view of coutryside from the room. Great bar and food served in the pub downstairs. Just 1 mile from the SWCP along tracks/paths. Lovely to support such a rural business. Great breakfast. The mattress could have been more comfortable, but tbh had a great nights sleep (after the 1st day hike).
- Ellie (10/5): Lovely B&B with incredible food and comfy rooms. - The food was amazing and the staff were so lovely and welcoming. A great stop near the stunning Praa Sands beach.
- Sarah (10/5): - Wonderful staff and food
- Alice (10/5): - We stayed at the Coach & Horses in Penzance after our wedding and honestly couldn’t have felt more welcome. The staff were so kind and thoughtful from the moment we arrived. They even decorated the seating area for our meal in the evening and gave us a lovely card to celebrate, which was such a special touch and completely unexpected.
Nothing felt too much trouble, and the atmosphere was warm, friendly and genuine throughout our stay. It’s rare to find somewhere that makes you feel so looked after. Thank you for helping make our celebrations even more memorable — we would happily stay again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Penzance.
- Alice (10/5): - I stayed at the Coach & Horses in Penzance while attending our friends’ wedding nearby and had such a lovely experience. From the moment we arrived, everyone was warm, welcoming and genuinely friendly.
The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable, the food was great, and the staff really went above and beyond to make the stay feel special. You can tell they genuinely care about their guests and take pride in what they do.
It was the perfect place to stay for such a happy occasion and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
- James (5/5): - Very good.THE owner served me and he could not of been more PLEASANT or helpful. Dirty cups in the Bedroom.A coat of Paint would help to brighten it up.
- Peter (10/5): - Comfy room, great meal menu. Excellent friendly staff.
- Henderson (6/5): Pay attention to the late check in time. - It was clean with a nice bar and dining area, though we only stayed for breakfast Checkin starts at 5pm, which is noted in their booking info, but unusually late. And after a long 23km hike to get there at 3:30, all we wanted was a place to drop our back packs and rest up by the bar. Nothing was open, so we hiked another 3+km round trip to another restaurant and bar and decided we’d eat dinner and rest up there before making the trek back to the Inn. Too bad, as we would otherwise have eaten at the Coach &Horses
- Monika (10/5): - Everything was great. Lovely place to stay. Clean and comfortable room.
Parking. Very tasty breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff.
- Alex (7/5): -
- Anne (8/5): Greatl - Fantastic hosts, great food and pet friendly- it was just a little cold but electric heaters very much appreciated.
- Iain (9/5): Very welcoming and friendly. Nice place to stay - Unfortunately breakfast is served after we had to leave for the Scillonian, but we were given cereal. Dinner the night before was great. The bed was a little soft
- Bernard (10/5): Excellent - 👍👍👍👍
- Fredrik (7/5): -
- Alessandra (6/5): Pleasant stay for location and hospitality, but not ideal during cold months - Excellent location, ideal for exploring Cornwall
Very clean property
Friendly and welcoming hosts
The on-site pub serves good food and has a pleasant atmosphere
Dog-friendly, which is a big plus The room was very small
No wardrobe or storage space for clothes and luggage
Inadequate heating, especially for a winter stay
Poorly insulated windows and significant heat loss
The room was very cold both during the day and at night
Only a small portable electric heater was provided
The bathroom was very small and not heated
We had to move the heater back and forth between the bedroom and bathroom to use them comfortably
We stayed during the first week of January, when temperatures were particularly cold
- Wilkinson (10/5): - Staff are lovely and a lovely atmosphere and the food was excellent 👌 Nothing to dislike
- Jonathan (6/5): -
- Andy (6/5): Average - Friendly staff Expensive for what you get
- Brendan (9/5): Perfect, short but comfortable stay with a very attentive landlord. - A beautiful main bar with wood burner and nicely decorated. A proper pub Nil
- Michael (9/5): -
- Natalie (7/5): Great spot if just got a couple of days to see Cornwall - The location is about half way between lands end and lizard point so a good point to start from then circle around the lower end of the country
- Alison (10/5): - Lovely stay, laid back and friendly, room , breakfast both good, food in pub was also lovely so didn’t need to go out in the evenings, only small thing is the king size bed is actually 2 singles together with on sheet and duvet , so a ridge down the middle , bathroom was small but adequate
- david (7/5): -
- Sarah (10/5): Short stay at the Coach & Horses - Everything as expected. Friendly staff and good breakfast. Off road parking was a bonus.
- Neil Hobley (9/5): - The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food was fantastic, evening and breakfast. Rooms were comfy and spacious. To me, it's a typical local friendly pub with loads of character. We only had one very small issue with the kettle, but by the time we got back, it had been sorted out. If im back this way again, most definitely stay here again. Nothing to dislike
- Willem (6/5): -
- Derek (8/5): - Breakfast very good and food in general very good.
- alan (6/5): - need refurbishment
- Andy (8/5): Convenient to Penzance and ideal pre ferry with amazing quality pub food available - We caught an early ferry so did not take breakfast we ate at the pub on arrival which was amazing high quality homemade food...... so suspect me missed out. The room was a little dated in decor and could be updated easy with a few touches.
- Alexander (8/5): Improvements needed - After a long day on the road, the Coach and Horses was a welcome sight. The welcome was warm and inviting. My room was unfortunately disappointing both in size and comfort. The bed was rock hard and the pillows had passed their date of usefulness about a decade ago. Attention to this detail is very important.
The bar was quiet but it was nice to enjoy a quiet pint of Wherry (from East Anglia!) before dinner. The food in the restaurant was surprisingly good. The fish (hake) and chips were excellent with thin crisp batter and served with homemade tartare sauce. Breakfast, unfortunately, was not very good and the service was slow which delayed my departure. Definitely aimed at tourists rather than anyone on business.
- Marc (9/5): -
- ROBERTO (9/5): -
- June (8/5): Very comfortable for a short stay - A full English breakfast included but no fruit or yoghurts available. Waitress very pleasant but not very efficient.
- Vera (10/5): -
- Pip (8/5): It was ideal for our one night stay and really recommend the food and lovely service. - Very friendly and helpful staff. Delicious dinner - beautifully cooked and lovely service. Very good for dogs as well - enclosed garden with easy access from the room. Very comfy bed. Good value for money - easy parking and just a short drive into Marazion. Slighty scruffy in places - we thought it was time the windows were painted but bar and dining room very pleasant.
- Anke (9/5): -
- Matthew (10/5): - Amazing place to stay. Great value for money. Breakfast in the mornings always lovely. Food menu is fantastic would highly recommend the fish and chips and Sunday Dinner. Staff are lovely, helpful and friendly. Ian the owner is very polite and welcoming. Myself and my partner will see you again soon.
- Swarup (10/5): It was somehow a pleasant stay - The location, the king size bed. Breakfast menu could have been better
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice stay as a family - Staff was very friendly. Enjoyed my stay
- CATHERINE (8/5): - L'amabilité du personnel, la qualité du petit déjeuner et dîner. L'aspect un peu vieillot des équipements.
- Gareth (6/5): Friendly but tired - The property is located five miles east of Penzance on the main road. A little isolated and very quiet and dark so I slept well. Plently of parking. Friendly welcome if a little rushed.. but the lady on breakfast duty was nice and toast was served quickly. Room 1 is a reasonable size with a large shower room. The building is tired and has an uncared for feel which is a shame as it has great potential.
- JEAN MARCEL (9/5): -
- Katy (9/5): A nice busy pub with rooms. - We had a really good Sunday roast. Good vegetarian options. One staff member organised cereal for us for the morning because we had to check out before breakfast was served at 8am. It was a dog friendly room. The breakfast being served at 8am meant several people staying did not get breakfast other than cereal in their bedroom as the timing of the ferry to the Scilly Isles means you have no time for a cooked breakfast. The price should be reduced if breakfast cannot be served earlier. Or a room only price could be offered. Also consider offering a dog bowl at least in a dog friendly room. A fan would also have made our night more comfortable for sleeping.
- Martin (7/5): A good location pleasantly away from the main town, but easily accessible. Very good food and drink - Food, including breakfast was really good. Location was good, being able to get to some very pleasant places next to the sea. For us, at our age, with bus stops just outside the inn, it was easy to get to Penzance. We could also have taken rides to Helston and Falmouth. Our room was good with reasonable amount of facilities. A bit more storage (e.g. shelving) in the bathroom would have been helpful. Slight pity that we were woken by early deliveries. Perhaps they expected we were already getting prepared for breakfast!
- Angela (9/5): -
- Denise (10/5): - Nice big room only comment is that the floor boards outside the room were squeaky and no instructions for tv use
- Colin (10/5): - Nice location friendly staff
I think 5pm is. Late check in time wanted to take my payment on arrival and then took it again the next day with out me knowing
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay - would definitely book here again. Good location. Comfortable rooms and clean bathrooms. Good service from staff. Quick check in and check out. Lovely breakfast and good set of choices in the restaurant menu.
- Strom (8/5): Thanks Coaches and Horses We enjoyed our stay - Rustic country pub/inn situated Penzance and Saint Ives
Great parking, but you will need a car to stay here and travel the sites
Staff were all friendly and welcoming
The included breakfasts were a bonus and we were lucky enough to be there for a fantastic Sunday roast
Bed was comfy
Thanks for a lovely stay
Jeff and Trudy New Zealand The shower was very small but we are not small people
- Kathryn (10/5): Brilliant place to stay - Great atmosphere in the bar, friendly staff, comfy quiet room and excellent breakfast.
- Leigh (10/5): - Excellent service
- Emma (8/5): Fantastic place to stay within easy reach of Penzance - Very comfortable, tasty breakfast and roast dinner on Sunday evening was unbelieveably good. Nothing
- Sarah (9/5): Superb -
- Trev (9/5): Superb - Very comfortable bed. Nothing
- Roger (3/5): Coach and Horses experience. - The location was good. The room was tired. The mattress was old, soft and used. The only storage place was one small haning rail, there was no wardrobe or
chest of draws to store cloths. The room was very small. The decor was in need of renewal. The windows and door rattled. The window frames and cills were rotton with paint peeling off.
Breakfast was poor, waited a long time for service. no decaff coffee and one morning we were offered BLACK burnt toast (inedible).
Very disappointed, we left 2 days early. Would not recommend.
- Valerie (8/5): Coach & Horses exceeds expectations overall. - Venue has plenty of parking and is an easy location to find. Good, convenient road for getting to Praa Sands, St Michael's Mount, Penzance, boats to Scilly Isles and St Ives. The bar and restaurant area looked quite charming, nicely decorated with dried hops, fairy lights and decent furniture. We noted that the dining areas were pretty full on a midweek evening, so it's obviously renowned in the area for food. As a result, we booked our evening meal there which was absolutely delicious! The staff were joyful and enthusiastic, which made our arrival very enjoyable. Our room was cool and quiet, as requested, very clean and the bed had a good quality medium to firm mattress which was lovely for back comfort. Too little side table space in the bedroom, plus the bedside lamps were either not working or not wired up correctly. Breakfast is restricted to 8am until 9am, which may not suit everyone, although we understand they can make provision for those taking early boat trips to the Scillies. The service at breakfast did not match our excellent evening dinner experience. The budget sliced toast was served way too early, so it quickly became cold and was wasted. There was no hot water to top up our tea and coffee. Staff paid zero attention to our table after the hot breakfast was brought out, so there was no opportunity to catch the eye and speak up. Also, why was the cleaner working in that area during the breakfast hour? It felt as if breakfast patrons are an inconvenient side hustle. Having said all that, my husband reports his full English breakfast was very good.
- Laura (9/5): Adorable little roadside inn, conveniently on the road to Mount St Michael and very inviting! Parking lot was large and - The parking lot is large and generous with parking spots. The room was large and cozy, the perfect size for my friend and I. Good view from the room, and nice breakfast in the morning. Check in was a little confusing, as it was busy in the bar and it wasn’t clearly labelled where we could check in. Once that was sorted though everything else was smooth sailing!
- Kath (6/5): - Excellent location.
Friendly staff .
Great evening meal .
Disappointing breakfast - poor ingredients & no choices .( sloppy anaemic fried egg ! )
- Ann (3/5): Poor - Nothing really Place falling down, mouldy curtains in bedroom. Mold in shower and ceiling.
Dining room mould coming through ceiling, not breakfast choices full English or cereal!
Behind the bed the socket to plug my phone in was covered in dust and dog hair.
Cleaning mopping bar floor with disinfectant whilst we are eating breakfast. Cleaner also walking through dining room to kitchen entrance with bucket which says toilet on.
Not very hygienic or appetising whilst you are eating. Would never recommend anyone to stay here.
- Martin (8/5): Very good -
- Stephen (9/5): Superb - The hosts were very welcoming and helpful. The accommodation was clean and comfortable.
- John (9/5): Wonderful - Nice, bright, cozy rooms. Excellent breakfast!
- Chris (10/5): Traditional Country Inn with friendly staff - The staff were super friendly. Great parking. A large field to exercise the dog. We were stuck for accommodation when our transport to the ScillyI Isles was delayed for a day. This dog friendly accommodation was a god send. Breakfast was fantastic, though we had to eat in a hurry as the Heliport rang us in the middle of it and urged us to make our way there asap. We managed to get out on the 9:15 flight - thanks Coach & Horses - you were STARS Nothing really.
- Alistair (10/5): - Fabulous staff
- Glenn (8/5): - Staff very friendly especially Katie who looked after our breakfast.
.
- Vicki and John (8/5): - A lot of stairs. Small rooms. Good dinner and breakfast.
- Dominic (7/5): Good -
- Erika (8/5): Clean and comfortable room. Lovely friendly staff, great breakfast. Good value for money. - Location good for visiting Minack Theatre. Staff kind enough to wait after 3pm lunchtime closing time to give us keys to to check in later after the theatre. Clean well equipped rooms. Lovely breakfast. Will visit here again. Bar closed when we got back there after the Theatre at 10.15pm - know it was late for a Tuesday night but would have been nice to at least have been able to buy a small nightcap to take to our rooms but no, was told bar closed despite a pool game going on.
- Plaice (9/5): Great little property. - Friendly helpful staff, good food and nice little garden at the back to let the dog out into. Nothing
- Kristein (8/5): - Great service and food at dinner and breakfast. Comfortable bed for a good nights sleep.
- Michael (7/5): Good value for money and ideal for short stay during a touring holiday. - Good food at reasonable prices. Parking available No check in until 5pm on first day
- Linda (8/5): very good - Breakfast and location good.
It would have been helpful to have had a menu for breakfast which was a little early..between 8am and 9am and checkout was early too..10am
- Clare (5/5): Ok room a little disappointing - The lady working in evening was helpful. Location was quite good. I could have my dog stay to. The mattress was to soft, the sink plug didn't fit and water leaked out, could have been cleaner for what I paid, curtains not thick enough. Needed a bit of tidying up. Paid £130 and I would expect a better standard of room.
- Sandra (10/5): - excellent service and food
- Kathryn (8/5): Comfortable with a good breakfast - Free parking
Nice and clean
- Anna (6/5): Irish coffee without whisky - When we arrived the lady was´t friendly at all. During breakfast there was another lady who was very nice and very friendly.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Satisfied Customer - We only stayed one night, was passing through. Have stayed once before. Everything was adequate for an older property and service was good. Only wish there were more hooks, shelving and places for towels in the bathroom even though they were quite small. However we find this at many other places we have stayed at not just ‘The Coach And Horses Inn’.
- Karen (8/5): Very good -
- Paul (8/5): Very good - Good location for our needs
- Chris (7/5): Overall we thought it was pretty good. - We were travelling to the Scilly isles the next day and had to leave at 7-30 am so no chance for the breakfast we’d paid for.Nevertheless on our arrival the night before we had very nice evening meal. Paying for a breakfast we didn’t have.
- Liselott (10/5): Loved it - Good, wellcocked food and lovely personal
- North (10/5): Exceptional - All staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.
- Natalie (8/5): Very good -
- Nigel (7/5): would consider staying again - staff were great and very friendly food was good
- Nigel (8/5): great friendly place if in the area worth staying - on arrival the staff were very friendly and welcoming show me to my room as well , the staff in the restaurant and breakfast were also great couldn't fault them would stay again if in the area shower cubical very small good job i am not that big or may have been a struggle
- Hilde (10/5): We felt welcome with the dog - Very friendly staff and delicious dinner.
Our dog was also very welcome.
Breakfast was also very well taken care of.
- Edna (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely place, great food and very friendly staff
- Rob (7/5): A homely pub with restaurant standard food. - There was a genuine feel about the place
- Patricia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michelle (10/5): Relaxing and very enjoyable. Very good night’s sleep in a very comfortable bed - Excellent place to stay, staff were lovely and very friendly and the food and drinks were very reasonably priced and food was delicious Nothing that I can think of
- Jess (9/5): Friendly , charming , good food and dog friendly- what more do you want. - Great Inn with lots of personality. Car parking very easy at the front. Great food in the bar area.
Really friendly staff who went above and beyond . We wanted an early breakfast ( normally 8:30am) they couldn’t do a hot breakfast but the lady left some fruit , yoghurts and smoothie at our door. Lovely touch . It seemed cold in our room , the heating wasn’t hot enough . But I suppose that’s what you get with a really old building.
- Johnston (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mike (9/5): Warm blast from the past! - After 42 years it was like stepping back in time with an amazing makeover! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, especially in light of the awful weather we left at the door!!
Room was spacious with a great shower. Excellent supply of tea, coffee and milk. Bed provided for a comfortable night sleep. Night time entry access is compromised walking through the back garden particularly in bad weather.
- Keith (10/5): A fantastic place to stay. Great food - Very welcoming very polite and friendly staff. Had evening meal that was just perfect. Out door area was welcoming. We had to be up early to get to Penzance harbour for our trip to the Isles of Scilly. The made sure we had something to eat and drink in the early hrs we had to be up. Packed lunch type of breakfast. Many Thanks for that.
- Louisa (8/5): Very good - Great location for us walking the coast path
- Ian (8/5): Very good -
- Tony (10/5): Very warm welcome from all staff & great location for Lizard Pe - gateway superb facilities and food - Breakfast and Sunday Lunch (roast beef) were outstanding!! Nothing as exceeded everything I hoped for!
